341  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 when? on: May 30, 2014, 03:45:56 PM
i think we will see 10,000 later this year. just a hunch Cool

If we hit $10,000 in 2014, it'll be a serious bubble.  Check out http://cryptocoinstats.com/priceforecaster.php

Bitcoin has been known to experience serious bubbles before  Wink

I can't even begin to imagine what will happen when that bubble pops. It'll be a massive crash, lol. But 10k is not happening anytime soon. Come on,we're at $600,that too with so much effort put into it. I doubt it'll ever go so high.

Why wont it? I imagine that figure will be a conservative estimate if bitcoin is fully embraced by merchjants or the mainstream. If you can spend it in half of the shops on the highstreet and on places like amazon and ebay then I'm sure the actual price will be many multiples of tens of thousands.
342  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-05-27] Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne Reports $1.6 Million in Bitcoin Sales on: May 30, 2014, 03:41:22 PM
I think he just seems an unlikely figurehead because he's from a big business, but he does seem like a bit of a rogue once you read a bit about him. I hadn't actually even heard of overstock or him until they started accepting bitcoin, but I'm a fan of both now though.
343  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: satoshi is either dead or in prison on: May 30, 2014, 03:33:25 PM
The only thing that makes me wonder if hes dead is the fact that he hasnt spent any of his coins. I just cant understand that.

I must admit that does make me wonder too. This community would go into meltdown if those coins ever moved. Can you imagine how many threads there would be and the excitement in trying to follow them?
344  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-05-27] Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne Reports $1.6 Million in Bitcoin Sales on: May 30, 2014, 03:21:34 PM
1.6 million is really surprising to me. I must admit I thought they'd barely shift much at all in purchases with bitcoin. I'm glad my scepticism was prioved wrong though. I wish Bryne the best with this and hope that those 10% of coins hes holding really pay dividends in the future.
345  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-05-27] Bitcoin Projected to Overtake PayPal in U.S. Transaction Volume on: May 30, 2014, 03:18:50 PM
Yeah the figures seemed exaggerated or off to me. I'm sure bitcoin will one day overtake paypal by a longshot, but I think were a way away yet. We need to have a worldwide celebration when this happens though  Cool.
346  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-05-29] Financial Times – Kenneth Rogoff: “Time to Phase Out Paper Money” on: May 30, 2014, 03:16:03 PM
These suggestions come from an Orwellian totalitarian place.

People can use whatever money they choose. If the State wants to stop producing physical money, the free market will supply the demand.

I agree with this. I don't think we'll have to force a phasing out of paper fiat money but hopefully bitcoin will phase it out on its own. I would love to see governments try desperately to try keep their money in circulation whilst more and more people were ditching it.
347  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Tests $600 on Strong US Volume on: May 30, 2014, 03:09:49 PM
Currency only has value if it's redeemable for a physical commodity, like gold, or it's backed by a government or other entity willing to support the price.

Bitcoin proves that this statement is false.

Yeah clearly this is not the case. I think this is probably going by the old definition of what money is, but I think it's time for a redefining for the current times. The idea of money is most certainly going to change for the better.
348  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If bitcoin becomes world's reserve currency? on: May 30, 2014, 03:05:16 PM
To be honest I can't see it become the reserve currency of the world. The major governments wouldn't let it happen. Maybe they will create their own cryptocurrencies in some fashion, but they'll probably only make it if they have complete control over it, but maybe an actual decent government will use it fairly in the future.
349  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: So is mining really not worth it anymore? on: May 30, 2014, 02:59:39 PM
I think its kinda a shame that it's not possible for newcomers to mine now. I would have loved to earn some coins by mining, but I guess that's your reward for getting into bitcoin early. Oh well, at least we can still hope were part of the early adopters on the grand scheme of things.
350  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does Bitcoin Require Regulations? on: May 30, 2014, 02:56:06 PM
Why are we so intent on begging governments to meddle with bit coin? Does it lend some false sense of legitimacy? Why do battered animals curl up beside abusive masters?

Bit coin does not need permission to exist and it certainly does not need a bunch of bureaucrats meddling with how we use it.

Nobody is begging them nor does it need their permission, but the powers that be wont just let us use it whilst avoid paying taxes on it. If it's going to be a legitimate currency then it's to be expected that they will try and regulate it.
351  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: I keep getting this error on: May 30, 2014, 02:48:52 PM
I think you should be ok to but I believe you can actually move it there yourself.
352  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Games and BTC on: May 30, 2014, 02:47:23 PM
Is there a list of these sort of games anywhere where you can get paid to play? Is there any you can actually earn some decent money from? I'd imagine it wont be but itd be cool to pass the time and earn some this way.
353  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: I keep getting this error on: May 30, 2014, 02:44:20 PM
I thought this was going to be about the 360 second posting error  Cheesy. You should try ask or look over in the mining section here. I think you'd get a better or quicker response there.
354  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Tests $600 on Strong US Volume on: May 30, 2014, 02:37:37 PM
It's nice to see the price rising up steadily without it being spiked up on the back of some good news (or the opposite on the back of some bad).

OP is a strong writer, but has a narrow perspective of what "instrinsic value" means. OP's definition is limited by the box of soon to be obsolete financial technology.

I think many people don't know or understand what intrinsic value means, plus something not having intrinsic value doesnt mean its worth anyless.
355  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin Really Save Money? on: May 30, 2014, 02:33:42 PM
I think bitcoin will save people much money in many industries as well as personally, and maybe even save entire countries from economic collapse caused by banks printing money on their own whim.

"Will bitcoin save money?"
Short answer yes, with an if. Long answer no, with a but.

Your short answer is longer than your long answer.  Grin
I personally believe cryptocurrency is the last stage of capitalism, the transition economy to the end of this neo-feudal society. Toward a better, more just, more humane, more open, less deceptive world.

I like your thinking and hope you're right.
356  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Lets make something clear on: May 30, 2014, 02:27:13 PM
I know its not easy foe everyone to just buy coins but it's very rare you can actually make anything worthwhile from faucets. You might be ok with the little you earn but I reckon there'll be a point in the future when you wished you hadntve wasted your time and spent it doing something more productive.
357  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: satoshi is either dead or in prison on: May 30, 2014, 02:21:59 PM
I dont think he's either. He's probably just retired from bitcoin and is watching his baby from afar. Maybe from a beach somewhere  Grin. I often wonder if he had other stashes of coins that we don't know about. I'm sure he must have.
358  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Its so hard to buy bitcoin these days compared to 2011 on: May 30, 2014, 02:19:49 PM
I don't think it's hard to buy bitcoin at all and its getting easier all the time. Obviously you should try avoid exchanges that require tedious verification etc, but there are many simple ways to get ahold of coins. You can always easily buy them on the marketplace here.
359  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kevin Newman (CTV NEWS) says bitcoin is the financial story of our time. on: May 30, 2014, 02:17:31 PM
I agree with him. I also hope the rest of the world realises this at some point. Bitcoin could easily become the internet of our generation. Maybe something will come along that betters bitcoin in some way but i expect itll be built on or around the technology of btc.
360  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin VS Gold :who is the winner ? on: May 30, 2014, 02:14:26 PM
As a currency gold is better in every conceivable way, but gold has that worthy intrinsic value. I get the comparison, but I think it's silly comparing them as they're two entirely different things.
