3401  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: To the Virtex trader douche.. random coins per order at 4.60 on: April 24, 2012, 09:59:38 PM
Now please stop wasting your time filling in the order book with silliness.
OP was from February. Second post is a dork that saw "Virtex" in the title and decided to post, regardless of the content of the OP.
If it's the same guy, then WTF.
3402  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gavin and Bruce doing Satoshi dirty work? on: April 24, 2012, 09:55:13 PM
I think that Satoshi still communicates with Gavin via PGP messages & tormail.
Gavin has stated that this is not the case, and I would take it at face value. Makes for a good story though.

3403  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Mixed operating system PXE booting on: April 24, 2012, 06:36:05 PM
Thanks Marked!

This is really helpful.

In this case I have one kind of board with dual NICs, but the other has only one NIC.  I'm not sure what you do in that case.

I'm thinking that maybe the way to do it would be to change the image on the tftp server and then restart each machine

One question: How would persistence work for each rig?  For example, let's say each rig has a different config file that it needs for its specific config.
You might be able to write a script that pulls a unique identifier from the machine, usually MAC address, upon starting. Then, the script would contact a local web server using the unique identifier as a GET or POST argument, which would then either reply with static files, or would reply with config files that are generated on the fly.

So for example, you could say that MAC addresses a, b, c, and d all need to mine on a different pool for a day or 2, so you would poke that into a (php?) web server config/script, and then reboot the miners. When they boot, they will get the alternate config. Now obviously changing the values on the fly is more ideal and should be used, but you could combine both to have quick and easy recovery from crashes.

EDIT: Obviously, the most ideal situation would be to provide only a bare minimum of config on boot, and do the rest after boot to give you the best flexibility. Also, a good DHCP router  server can be told to reserve an IP for a specific MAC so everything can be configured based on IP address.

3406  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Isobot Humanoid Robot on: April 24, 2012, 05:50:11 PM
That is a cool thing that I remember from a bit ago, and I'm sorry that the first responder was the clueless thread shitting Nyaaan, who is obviously scamming things out of people by telling them lies. I wish I had time to play with it as well, but like you, I feel that it wouldn't be used enough to justify having. Good luck with the sale though.
3407  Economy / Marketplace / Re: ["WAIT LIST"] BFL Singles Order Date / Ship Date on: April 24, 2012, 04:08:53 PM
Just got my first order today, that's 13 days in transit to Canada.

btw: Canada Customs didn't open it, but charged $71 per Single plus a $8.50 handling fee for the package.
Damn them to hell, they always are looking to make a quick buck.
3408  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Dailybitcoins.org] Bitcoin faucet, sponsored by ads on: April 24, 2012, 03:03:56 PM
Yeah, I seem to recall reading something about waiting times and bitcoin “priority” but I'll have to go back and read up on that since I wasn't aware of the details. It does seem that TX fees are currently one of the more confusing aspects of Bitcoin from the users' perspective.

By the way, what kind of time duration are we typically talking about here? Something on the order of days, hours, months…?
Usually 144 confirmations, I.E. about 1 day.
3409  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [RAFFLE] 50Gh 1 week mining contract worth ~230 BTC - 3 days left! on: April 24, 2012, 02:51:54 PM
Just around 76 hours left to go until the big winner is found! Is it going to be you?

Yes, it's going to be me!
No me!  Angry

3410  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Watercooled Rack of Servers (Update: 50% complete) on: April 24, 2012, 02:51:09 PM
Hm, hoses out the front, didn't really think of that. That would make routing them in the case easier I would think. Cool.
3411  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: anyone got hash rates for the amd ati FirePro V8800 ? on: April 24, 2012, 02:47:23 PM
It's a 'fancy' 5870 (Cypress/1600 SPs).
I noticed that some other FirePro cards have similar numbers of shaders as their supposed consumer level counterparts, but not nearly as much hash. I dunno if the architecture is radically different or something, but it would be good to hear that it can actually get some decent hash.
3412  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: pirateat40's end game on: April 24, 2012, 02:11:59 PM
Blatant, brazen scam through and through. A rating on #bitcoin-otc is the perfect 'in' and the ratings would snowball from the participants. A lot probably know it deep down, but will defend it publicly until they're ready to take their principal + "gains" out (of course they never are). The participants in pyramid schemes are just as guilty and will get what they deserve. Fractional monetary expansion always collapses.

The lack of transparency is completely anti-thetical to the principals of bitcoin. I trust bitcoin because the blockchain is a fully visible ledger.

Despite so many people being convinced that he's a scam, the "yes" bin on betsofbitco.in is not growing any larger. You'd think people would want to profit on something they are so sure of Roll Eyes
This is quite honestly how we should be handling many things all the time. Here’s the link: http://betsofbitco.in/item?id=349

Pirate is ponzi? Make some free money on it!
I hedged that shit and put 1 BTC on both sides.  Cool

3414  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BitLasers.com - Handheld Lasers and accessories on: April 24, 2012, 02:02:26 PM
Also, a new red diode seem to have been discovered out of nowhere. Testing is being done, but if we're lucky we will be able to see ~400 mW of 660nm red for pretty cheap ( like $90 ). A lot of exciting stuff happening in the laser scene now!
Wow nice, what product might that have been initially designed for?

3415  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1176 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); supporting p2sh! on: April 24, 2012, 01:56:22 PM
NMC difficulty is ~2.5x lower than BTC difficulty, so nmc payout should be 2.5x higher in the time period. But a lot of people isn't interested in NMC, so the real NMC payouts are around 4x higher than BTC. At current NMC price (0.01 BTC/NMC), merged mining on the pool is giving roughly 4% extra profit...
For those that don't have an NMC address, do they still get aux longpolls from NMC blocks? If so, can they be an option to disable?
3416  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: [ANNOUNCE] ecoinpool - A brand new pool mining software written in Erlang on: April 24, 2012, 07:24:18 AM
A few weeks ago I installed 'ecoinpool' on a RHEL 5.7 box (running on VMWare).

Take the latest Erlang and build it as recommended by p2k; then build CouchDB using this http://wiki.apache.org/couchdb/Installing_on_RHEL5 (section "Building CouchDB from source "); then you can follow p2ks guide again.

HTH
Yes I was finally able to build CouchDB after some wrangling with SpiderMonkey, but the eventual install of ecoinpool was spewing errors of all kinds, and acting a bit funny. Likely something that I missed in the configuration. I've given it up for now.
