I am a (somewhat) large holder of monero, and I promise to dump every single one of the coins I have if there is a post-mine or otherwise dedicated portion of block rewards to the development team.

Ideally, the development team is non-financially motivated, but since they are, they should either back away from the project and allow volunteers to step in,

OR

Purchase Monero, and provide work on the project in an effort to boost the value of their investment.

The coin will never reach mainstream potential if there is a 1% block dedicated to the development team. Imagine if George Washington owned 1% of the USD that did not inflate, he would be a dictator of the economy surrounding the dollar.

-I think this is a misunderstanding, IIRC the dev-team just want to cover their cost and thats it.

-IIRC they already hold around 50k together, maybe even more. Who knows?
3462  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 25, 2014, 10:34:24 PM
A post mine is completely out of the question in my book.

Jesus. This isn't the USD where the government just tries to solve it's problems by printing more money. I mean wtf.

The only option is to change the emission schedule.

In my book, forcing the devs to abandon Monero for lack of funds is out of the question.  And so is continuing their practice of subsidizing the whales, miners, and everyone else, by working for below-market rates.

A post mine is in some sense a change to the emission schedule.  But the Bootstrap Block would be auctioned off and thus its emission change kind-of happens 'off-chain.'

No matter what, the now-undecided emission schedule must change when a solution for the tail-end is implemented.

All the Sturm und Drang in the universe will not change that simple fact.

What on earth are you talking about. This is an open source voluntary project. XMR is not designed to pay developers. You might as well start talking about poverty in Africa and use that as your argument for a post mine.

The justification for this post mine is simply ludicrous. That's not even why I'm against it. I'm against it because pulling money out of thin air is against EVERYTHING which crypto stands for. Go ahead and kill this coin by making such a foolish move and watch it become the next Vericoin.

I just hope people like me are given advance warning so I can dump my holdings before the shit hits the fan.

The options are change the emission schedule or do nothing. So long as we don't do something retarded like a post mine which will kill the reputation of this coin dead then I don't care what we do out of those options.

I agree mostly with this. When a post-mine is issued, all people will say when they hear about XMR is "post-mine scam", "post-mine scam", like most of the users here now scream pre-mine scam. I think we should look at something like crowdfunding first.

What about an option for miners to donate something to the dev fund? Just something they can easy enable, like: donate xx percentage of block reward directly to the dev fund. Personally I think a great option will enable this option, enabling something is just far more easier to do than donating funds afterwards. Just my 2 cents.

[...] This is the adress without space. You can find it in the OP also in the syntax sample of simplewallet.

No. The address above has the space also...
The forum breaks it with a space unless it is 'code', like so:
Code:
4AHDacN4rVtFTfyc2hTXqCD5apS25YEtCcG16jVVcyW69MG1PHWua5j1AiJXTdVAk7jDPUZDijBfabdnHk2REKsC7L4qpKK

Cheers!

I see, thanks for elaborating and fixing it! Will edit my post.

Maybe I had too many beers but I am at my 5th try and seem not be able to find a working 64 character string that doesn't give me "payment ID has invalid format expected 64-character string ".

sorry for OT but it's driving me crazy.

I need more beer.

Payment ID info below<><><>

For the ignorant the hex characters are the numbers 0 through 9 and the letters a through f.  Is that correct?  Are the letters case dependent?

Yes that is correct. I don't know if the letters are case dependent (they certainly aren't for hex in general just not sure about payment ids), but the common practice is to use lower case.

Are you aware that there is a space between the d and the n (at the end) in the adress posted at 1.1? I don't know if that's meant to be, just notifying before someone sends to the wrong adress. Will soon send mine.

Yes the space is there, this is what you get when you copy and paste an address from the CLI wallet as the address wraps.

PLEASE CORRECT IN OP.

What address are people sending to?

The adress is correct, you just need to remove the space. The adress posted in the sample syntax is correct.

EDIT: Post beneath has the good adress.

This is the adress without space. You can find it in the OP also in the syntax sample of simplewallet.

Afaics, the SuperNet needs to be better explained. Thus I can't comment constructively until I really understand all it, including the monetization and economics.

The is constructive criticism. I am not at-once trying to destroy it with my subjective opinions, yet I am also throwing caution at the point that I can't yet understand it all (at least the documents I read thus far).

For example, if Risto said he doesn't recommend investing in the SuperNet at this time, because he has not been able to ascertain all of the metrics of its design and intent. I would view that as open to the future of it, but constructively explaining what is lacking for even reaching a first decision, and without making any binding promises.

If latter Risto decided after understanding the design fully that James controls too much of the Unity tokens or what ever (hey I don't understand it so don't ask me to explain), he would present some economics analysis and inviting discussion. This open form of constructive criticism can not be viewed as turf battles if participants are very careful to state and differentiate opinion from facts.

If latter Risto didn't find any flaw in the design and economics, but doubted the ability of the developer(s) to deliver SuperNet, he could state that he will refrain from investing until he has ascertained that the developers have implemented the design as specified and gained market acceptance.

If you are going to lead pooled capital, politics unavoidably follows you.

Edit: the comments I saw from Risto about SuperNet seemed to imply maybe that he was judging the man, jl777, and not the design and economics. That is not going to be good politics. Even if there is a reason to believe a particular coder has weaknesses, we must win our logic on the merits if we want the political protection that open source organization offers, not on the subjective no matter how much more efficient the former might be.

Edit#2: jl777 has himself written he forms designs in some part from trial and error as he works through the implementation. So that could be viewed as a weakness or strength for example, but that is a subjective opinion. Thus not worth arguing about. The proof is in the pudding. I don't think there is any doubt about his rate of coding being quite high.

Did you read this? It's pretty clarifying: http://www.coinssource.com/supernets-coin-offering-raises-over-2000-bitcoins-hours/

Looking at this thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=794253.0

It seems BCX personal identity is known?

I have no problem with your last post but the ones previous are personally viscous. You and Bitlane found the guy my older sister is married to .  In 2006 he funded me with the ability to develop some Ebay affiliate sites. At that time Ebay would not allow people from the Philippines to be a member so I set it up all in his name in the US. I left tracks which was a mistake. All I am asking is that we keep our family members out of this, I think it would probably work out better for both of us.

I have always liked you and really dont want this to go off scale stupid between us. Now you want some more tin foil hat material. Do you not find it odd I am from the Philippines and so is Anonymint and what does this any of this have to do with TAG?

Now for some more eerie coincidence, did you know that you and I are born on the same day (Feb 18) but you're a year older than me. I turned 30 this year. BTW my real name is Heracleo but all my friends call me Leo.

So any chance we can operate within the defined parameters?

You must have me confused with someone else. I never brought family members into the mix. Please link me to where I have done this as I am pretty sure I never had a reason to drag others into something I did not create (I.e. your attack on litecoin).

If you remember correctly the post you ended up making under the "danny maddox" username was to distract from your inability to execute your claimed "attack" on Litecoin at the time.

Please link me to the posts you believe I was "vicious" towards you recently.

In the same manner I have had little reason to be "against" you. But in all things actions speak louder than anything said hence my linking you to the old posts I did.

My stance on your XMR exploit is not personal at all. Let us not mix the two.

Here is the 15-minute resolution chart showing what I believe to be a short-covering bitcoin price rally. Large blocks are being purchased on Bitstamp. Gold prices have rallied a bit in the last hour too.

Quoting this for info:
All 11,055 shorts still intact.

I think it's just buying because of the paypal news.

would be fun if someone put up a bounty on BCX personal details.
If he isn't really attacking I can't see any benefit comming from that. Better leave him alone then.
3478  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: September 23, 2014, 02:22:56 PM
Hashpower is very very helpful, but I understand they also have something more in mind.
Something new.
Something that may end this sort of TW threat for all nascent coins, forever, if they follow XMR's lead on it.
I don't want to say much about it yet as it is still in review, and discussion on feasibility.
Occasionally necessity is the mother of invention after all... when he father is dedicated brilliance.

Can someone please point me to a resource which explains the TW attack in more detail? I've seen ArtForz's post showing how the timestamps can be backed up in time for coins which don't overlap the retarget of difficulty. Is there still a TW vulnerability for coins that overlap their difficulty retarget windows?

I understand CN's difficulty retarget throws away 20% of the "outliers". That is probably a vulnerability.

BCX, was that you in the polo chat under a different name?

For the record I did not DDOS Poloniex.

If I did I promise you I would have told you.

I have nothing against Poloniex and have no interest bothering them.

As was pointed out by a few other posters, this is not my style.

More than likely some poser that was going to try and get some coins out of you.

None of this meant to be a hostile action, I just want to see if XMR can fix their holes.

Anyone can knock down a coin by hitting an exchange. No fun in that.

Believe what you want to believe but anybody that has been here for any time knows, that wasn't me.
