363  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Initial Distribution of a 100% PoS Coin on: June 05, 2015, 06:49:28 PM
Counterparty's proof-of-burn method of distribution could be used to distribute a PoS coin without the "scammy" associations of an IPO.

Tl;dr

Check out Clamcoin for a beautiful way of distributing PoS coins.

Can it be repeated though?

Someone who knew about the CLAMs distribution method before its launch would have stood to make an enormous profit by manipulating the system by creating hundreds/thousands of non-empty addresses beforehand.

........

There were a great many POS coins distributed to bitcointalk members last year. It could be repeated by scanning the genesis block of each coin for addresses to distribute to. It's too late to manipulate the genesis distribution of those coins now.

Some of them are dead, but you could probably find people prepared to make downloads of their blockchains available. Some of them are still alive like coin2, community coin, faircoin, NAS, and premineplus.

The dead ones include BTCtalkcoin, FootballCoin, freebies coin, lottoshares, sharecoin, and yellowcoin.

Forgot about NEM, it's a confirmed scam and it's already deaded.   Shocked  Shocked  Shocked  Shocked
364  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Your Top 5 Cryptocurrencies? (2015 version) on: June 05, 2015, 06:47:05 PM
The Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (Russian: съезд КПСС) was the gathering of the delegates of the Communist Party and its predecessors. According the party statute, it was the supreme ruling body of the entire Communist Party.

delegates

Bitshares has delegates.  Bitshares is very popular among us Communists in cryptospace.  Shocked  "Free" coins all failing right now, while Bitshares' first 5 year plan is producing immense success.

367  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is this the end of RIPPLE / XRP ? on: June 03, 2015, 09:37:41 PM
Beyond saving pennies on the dollar, what incentive is there for somebody to switch from a KYC like PayPal with 150 million users down to something like Ripple, which probably only has 100s of human users with amounts over $100 in their wallet?

*crickets*

That's what I thought, Ripple isn't offering anything actually wanted.  At least the decentralized cryptocurrencies have their current and implied later utility.
368  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If you have 30'000$ Cash on: June 03, 2015, 09:26:14 PM
if you can afford a loss of your 30k $ then i would invest it into the following coins:

25% BTC
25% NXT
25% NEM
5% XRP
5% Qora
10% Monero
5% other liquid alts

 Wink

Only 10% for Monero?  The Monerotards are going to swarm this thread any second now, demanding you increase the percentage to at least 50%.

As well why would anyone recommend anything for BTC?  The earliest adopters saw 450,000x return (BTC was originally fractions of a cent) and nobody investing anew today is going to see that.    Even if you believe in $10,000 BTC that's only a return of 50x and yet you're taking all the capital risk (losing all the sleep) while the guys who bought BTC, years ago, to acquire weed are laughing harder to the bank

I know a broken clock is right twice a day but the people who bought and held at $1250 are hurting, as are those who bought at $800, $600, $400... et cetera..   Most of the people who went exclusively alts in 2013 and diversified did better than the $1250 crowd who came in middle of the bubble.

369  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nxt and the rise to the top. on: June 03, 2015, 08:15:42 PM
Come on TS, you can do better than this....my replies are in blue.

The last rebound / hurrah we saw in NXT was the result of John (the marketing guy) lying about NXT being added to CoinBase.  So outside of the initial floor manipulation with Dgex and John's deceit campaign, has there ever been any reason for NXT to have a 8 figure capitalization?  Probably not.
John M. wasn't lying about the Coinbase adoption. We had a solid commitment from CoinBase themselves to list NXT.
Otherwise, why would Johns announcement of the Coinbase listing have had any effect at all ?
CoinBase would have simply denied the announcement the next day if it wasn't true.
As it was, CB kept on delaying NXT implementation until it became obvious that they wouldn't meet their commitment.
It sucked, tbh, but it wasn't Johns fault.

If there are really only 1150 addresses with more than 10,000 NXT then user adoption, even by crypto world standards, has been a major failure over the past 1.8 years.  This is contrasted with NXT's capitalization being a moderate success, despite the lack of adoption.
Or, we now have 1150 people who are seriously committed to their NXT investment, plus a completely unknown number of investors/speculators/traders keeping their NXT investment on exchanges. Could be worse.

There are many crypto currencies with a bigger and better distribution.   It's indicative that nobody really wants NXT or, alternatively, they've read about the distribution, security incidents and technical issues and they're discouraged from adopting it.
NXTs distribution has been discussed a thousand times before, and right now, I'd say that after 18 months it's no longer relevant: we've seen several massive dumps into NXT markets, and NXT is still holding position in the top 10. Someone seems to want it.....
As for security incidents: there haven't been any. The NXT software and blockchain has run smoothly for 18 months with no security breaches. There have been thefts of NXT from exchanges, but that's been due to lousy security from the exchanges, not any fault of NXT itself.
Technical issues ? Everything works, TS, and pretty much always has. The Nxt devs have always been completely on the ball, and any bugs/issues get stomped on quickly.
The NXT network has been attacked many times, and has not been compromised yet. (Though the attack from Destroyer did halt tx processing for a couple of hours)

You wrote this revisionism while reusing needles in your junkie den in Amsterdam or something?   I guess you need something to do while waiting for your 50 million NXT to acquire more value.

Of course keep engaging in revisionism - like that quotation from your hero, if you repeat a lie enough it becomes true.  The story about John and all the thefts in NXT (which you claim never happened, LOL) are well documented on BTT and numerous websites.  You do know in logical arguments that I don't have to prove your negative claim?  Of course what is the standard for dialectics in the business and legal world is probably beyond your comprehension.

Already people from NXT who admitted who has what in terms of addresses and nobody is adopting or using NXT, it's a $hitcoin full of scams and thefts and deceit.  Anybody who even continues to associate themselves with NXT, given the history of criminality, is a psychological loony or a whale salvaging a windfall.

370  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NeuCoin - Easy to use, free to try, focused on micropayments - Official on: June 03, 2015, 08:02:26 PM
Things started to turn ugly when "marketing expert" Mark took over control and started acting like the next Kim Jong Un. Stating that "harshing on my buzz, dude" as part of the official reason for banning someone just gives an idea of the level of professionalism and maturity we can expect from him.

 Cheesy

True.  However, from his languaging, you can tell he's really "hip" and therefore obviously trustworthy.  Roll Eyes

Things are guaranteed to turn ugly for this coin, this was guaranteed from the moment Daniel Kaufman had anything to do with the project, implicated in the direct revenue scams in the mid-2000s and runs a slumlord empire and other dishonorable businesses.

The coin itself is a fork of Peercoin, comes with massive inflation (which is a guaranteed coin killer in the crypto world) and their adoption plan consists of spamming freemium websites with less than 10 million users (sounds great in theory but less than 0.05% even purchases or buys stuff on freemium websites - so you can't 100,000+ paying users among 10 million deadbeats who won't even pay for content they like, never mind paying money for magical internet beans).

What was this coin supposed to do? Can anyone say in 1 sentence?

Take your money?  What else did you expect a hastily made fork of Peercoin to accomplish?

Founder of this project is a slumlord in the United States and was implicated in the direct revenue scam in the mid-2000s, so consider any 'investments' as good as gone.
373  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If you have 30'000$ Cash on: June 03, 2015, 12:26:58 AM
I can't be excited about 1,150 addresses owning 10,000 NXT ($130 USD) after 1.5-2 years.  I actually thought the user adoption of NXT was a lot more than just 1,150 addresses owning a decent amount and I am shocked to read it is this low after so much time.

Have to recall addresses =/= people, one person can own multiple addresses.   It is a common security practice to split your funds across many addresses, to prevent the scenario of one theft taking everything at once.

So we're not talking about 1,150 addresses but really 100s of human users with multiple addresses.  NXT has no user adoption.

We're going into looney land if we're recommending people to invest $1000s of their hard earned money into a community which only has 100s of human users and many 4chan-like and other idiot personalities (also a long history of security incidents, developers disappearing, technical problems, abandoned or delayed projects, et cetera).
374  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If you have 30'000$ Cash on: June 01, 2015, 08:50:43 AM
NXT and Litecoin do have a few things in common, believe it or not, especially when it came to CoinBase.

Both NXT and Litecoin were showing signs of decline until (incorrect) rumors of them being added to CoinBase.  Charlie Lee took an actual job at CoinBase and many alleged that meant Litecoin would soon be added.  NXT had this guy called John Manglaviti who went around marketing and even made speeches stating CoinBase would soon add NXT.

Fast forward, today - obviously - we know that neither LiteCoin or NXT were never added to CoinBase and CoinBase's position is 100% Bitcoin.  Both Litecoin and NXT have since, albeit slowly, been dropping in capitalization.

This comes to an uncomfortable truth - both Litecoin and NXT's big rebounds, back in the day, were arguably the result of rumor (in NXT's case more deceit as John was clearly just making stuff up).   Past performance of those two coins, especially when people were speculating on rumor, shouldn't be taken as indication that either coin will ever succeed or take off again.

So yes you can physically throw $30,000 at either coin but this post should serve as warning that, outside of the 2013 pump, both LTC and NXT's later rebounds were the result of (incorrect) rumors.  Nobody is really sending Litecoin or NXT up anytime soon.
375  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-05-29] WUK: IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO GET INTO BITCOIN, INSISTS BITCOIN JESUS on: May 31, 2015, 06:32:07 PM
I wouldn't take anything rpietila says that seriously, especially if its not well sourced or documented as he's well known to use dodgy or unconfirmed sources. Knowing how many active users bitcoin has would be very had to quantify as well. I'm sure there are many people who are still just holding their coins for the future and they shouldn't be discounted either.

In the absence of other trustworthy sources, the methodology used by rpietila seems to be the most reliable and accurate one. His assumptions are backed up by the (leaked) data from the Mt Gox. Anyway I am sure that the number of users is much smaller than the figure of 5 million or 10 million given by most sources.

Whereas you trust the methodology from someone like Roger Ver?   Cheesy

We have estimations from the Federal Reserve Bank, European Central Bank and then banking authors like Jeffrey Robinson who all put the user estimation at or under 250,000 human users (FRB states 100,000).   Addresses =/= Human Users, one human can have many addresses.

As well the Federal Reserve Bank claimed Bitcoin was seeing exponential doubling every 10 months but that doesn't explain why Bitcoin websites like Bitcointalk.org, Coindesk.com, et cetera - have actually fallen in their Alexa Rank.   Falling in alexa rank = less people coming to bitcoin related websites and less people are reading about Bitcoin - doesn't look good if the thesis is Bitcoin is supposed to be doubling in population every 10 months.

376  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core or XT? POLL on: May 31, 2015, 06:16:30 PM
If the miners decide the future then Bitcoin Core would win, as most miners are only chasing profit and money in the end.

Bitcoin XT is essentially an alternate, a $hitcoin at best with some trivial improvements, and Gavin & company are going to discover how hard it is to compete as an alternative.  With the exception of Litecoin and Doge, who are still living off money from the 2013 bubble, I doubt a new $hitcoin of BTC can really propel itself into the top 5.
377  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NODE Revolution: "Money is a means of payment, not speculation" (с) on: May 31, 2015, 05:39:41 PM
if i invest 1 000 eur on this project?         a wise choice?

i used the the wallet it's really smoth & fast...i like it

How wise do you think can be to get advice here ?
Do you think would be objective?

That and we've seen these kind of "posts" from low-post accounts for many years now.  Someone swooping in saying they'll spend $1000s or more (or scaled up if the volume / capitalization is bigger) and yet never follow through.   Cheesy  Those kind of posts happen all the time and I think it's just people trying to create false excitement to boost the price up, so they can cash out (a psychological game) but it rarely ever works.

Even if you did put $1000s into NODE, it's still roulette because nobody is sure if NODE can pull off being integrated by a bank and putting $Fiat on blockchain.
378  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NODE Revolution: "Money is a means of payment, not speculation" (с) on: May 30, 2015, 07:01:07 PM
How are things progressing with Node? Any news?

I guess we should just wait for the next wallet release..

NODE developers seem to ninja launch / release without warning.  They said end of summer they'ld have NODE integrated into some bank and there'll be $Fiat on the blockchain, honestly I'm skeptical until it happens.  It's a huge mental leap for me (and presumably others) that some bank in Ukraine would happily adopt some obscure cryptocurrency with some $90K capitalization.

380  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk Road Founder Ross Ulbricht Sentenced to Life in Prison on: May 30, 2015, 02:31:56 AM
If they're going to give him life they should just kill him. He's young, he could potentially live another 50 years in prison. At $30k per year to house a federal prisoner, that judge just cost the taxpayers $1,500,000.00. I hope something bad happens to that judge for wasting all that money. Not critical bad but bad, like tonight I hope he has a really painful bowel movement that ruptures a hemorrhoid.

Well considering the fact he also forfeited $184 Million, I would say the US is ahead on the financial cost for housing him for the next 50 years or so.

~BCX~

Yeah and they auctioned it off or most of it already, haven't they?  So housing him for $1.5 million or even $5 million is a real bargain compared to how much money he made them.
