361  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Antminer S1 open for sale again] The last round before the Chinese New Year on: January 22, 2014, 09:10:58 PM
I hate to muck up this thread but, is it a TOTAL NO NO to use the cx600m to power an OCed antminer s1 with the included pci-e connection? Thanks.

+1

My opinion is is that using one cable with 2 connectors to power an OCed antminer is not recommended, because that is up to 48Amps per 3x12V circuits = 16Amps per circuit, which is a lot for an 18AWG cable I believe.

But if you use 2 cables, that should be OK = then only 8Amps per cable.

Btw am I correct with my numbers, specifically the max OC current being 48Amps? What is the max overclock of these in terms of chip Mhz and GH/s?
CX600M might not be enough then?

Thanks.  Now, are we talking fire hazard or poor performance?

I am no electrician, but I would say fire hazard. Check this reply I got from Coolermaster:

Quote
The official standard only allows for 75W on a 6-Pin PCI cable. I don’t know why this value is so low (it’s not a free specification for some reason). More info here:
http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#eps8

I found several different information as to the max Amp on one cable (7A for 18 AWG seems most common) so 252W per cable.

Unofficially it would be ok but it’s at your own risk! Just make sure you have plenty of airflow running over those cables.

I don’t know why there are only three cables included. We can send you another cable. Please send us your full address.

If you still wanna use CX600M. Buy extension cables, and cut them instead.
You can wire Antminers with only cables too.

Oh nice. So 3x 12V and 3x Ground are needed per board = 6x 12V and 6x Ground in total?

That means I can just remove the CPU connectorand attach 3x 12V and 3x ground to one of the boards, right?

Im not sure if you can remove it without damaging the molex.
But price wise. CX750M doesnt cost much more than CX600M?

CX600M is £53.54: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-Builder-Series-Modular-Certified/dp/B00ALYOTTI/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1390423038&sr=1-1&keywords=CX600M

I can buy this extension cable and remove its connector, thus not damaging the PSU cable, right: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/StarTech-8-inch-ATX12V-4-pin-P4-CPU-Power-Extension-/290992276563?pt=UK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item43c07dc453

CX750M has 2 PCIE. OC no problem.

Yes, but it is a bit overkill for me. I wonder why they didn't make the CX600M with 2 cables as well.

You dont need to use PCIE for 12V. As long as the other blade is powered by separate cables, you will be fine.

I know, but I see no other option. Even if I use 2xMolex to 1xPCI-E adapter all the current is being drawn through one cable again, because there is only 1 Molex cable with CX600M.

You can use the 8pin 12V thats suppose to be for the CPU. Either cut it and use 3x12V & 3xGND or look for a adapter.
I bought 6 Antminers, so would rather buy PSUs that can be used without any modifications.
And because I will probably mine for 1-2 months and then sell them I need 6 PSUs and not 3 big ones.

Corsair CS650M  Semi-Modular 80+ GOLD Certified Power Supply
not expensive
quiet
80+ Gold
2x PCI-E Wink

You mean CX600M?

is there a 2nd PCI-E cable and where do you connect it?

369  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Antminer S1 open for sale again] The last round before the Chinese New Year on: January 22, 2014, 07:32:40 PM
I am still undecided on a PSU.
What is the maximum DC current used by the miner when overclocked at 200GH/s?
Is a 600W power supply with 480W on the 12V enough, or it is s close cut?

Please recommend a cheap, but good quality semi or fully modular PSU.
I'm currently looking at Corsair CX600M, but it only comes with 1x PCI-E cable with 2 connectors, which might be dangerous.

thx for sharing temen!

My experience on a November Jupiter with 305 is so far that it works for one board, avg is >700 and temperature is 80+
Enermax 1500W PSU seems not to be sufficient as it is shutting off when I overclock all 4 boards and cgminer starts putting work on them.

I'm running stable at 2B5 and 2C5 with max temperature up to 80 °C and reaching with this ~830GH/s
I'm using "spi-test -s 50000" not the 55000 Mhz value, btw.

I'll leave it for good now and keep watching Smiley

Can you share the vlock values and corresponding Mhz.
Also what file do you alter and what are the required changes?

Thank you.

Let me tell: with a knc jupiter you can sleep in the same room, even near the jupiter. No noise...the ants are 3 or 4 times louder.

If you have both can you make a video comparing the noise of both if that is not too much trouble. Thank you.
I guess there are many video on youtube from both miner, so you could compare if you don't believe me.

gmaxwell, if you can sleep in a room with a turbine sound avalon you are deaf, definitly.  Grin

Compared with a avalon the ant is like a whipser.  Shocked

There are but you can't compare 2 videos in terms of noise if they are not shot with the same microphone.
You can make a quick video with your phone just to compare noise please Smiley

In terms of PSU: is Corsair 430W Builder Series enough or should I get 500W version?

Thank you.
The CX430 is only rated to 28A on its 12V rail and is group regulated so the 12V rail voltage will drop quite a bit (and the 5V rail voltage will go way high) if you don't load the 5V rail as well. It's a bad choice.
Look at test CL2.
http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story2&reid=214

i suggest you to use : Corsair CP-9020015 750W.
i think this is quite enough for a miner.
from what i read in forums and reviews you need 32A on 12V rail.

I'll then get Corsair Builder Series CXM 500W
it has 38A on the 12V line.

I've not followed closely this manufacturer, but from what I've read they ship from stock, right?
You pay 1.9BTC for one 180GB/s machine and expect it to receive when?
Any reasons to be worried about delays with these guys?
What value do they declare? I read above that sometimes there is a problem with customs.

I am currently contemplating on buying a few as this is their final batch before the Chinese new year.

Hey Cyper!

Just do it....

I have 7 at home and 7 on way....

No Jups....

Ordered 3 last night.
I hope this turns out well.

380  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 20, 2014, 05:00:19 AM
Well I don't know if this will make profit or not, but I am hoping so since KnC most likely won't be shipping anymore Jupiters, I've decided to invest elsewhere, as I've gotten tired of waiting on them to make a simple

decision; I've ordered 6 Bitmain AntMiner S1's today for a total of 1080Gh/s base (1200gh/s OC) for a total of 11.4BTCs. Hopefully I can mine with them for a month, and sell them on ebay for close to what I paid for

them (at least $1500 each). I'm hoping that should make a little bit of money.

Hopefully they at least sell some upgrade modules that work with Oct orders. I still have 3 slots left in my Saturn :-)

fyi just so you know, selling on ebay is very dangerous same as russian roulette. Don't be fooled by all those sold auctions at high prices, i would say only <50% of those sold are actually successful.  If you are lucky you get a nonpayment, if you are not, you get a scammer, ebay/paypal always side with the buyer. I have had this happen to me twice already 1 for an asic miner card back when it was going for $4000, and another for an avalon.

I have been selling on ebay for over 15 years and know every trick in the book, but there is nothing you can do if you want to sell, just rolling the dice. Both scammers had high feedback rating and looked very legit, they just break something on the miner after a month like bending some metal or cooling fan wires, take a photo and file for claim or direct chargeback within 45 days. They then change their ebay id after a month or so, and since ebay doesn't allow you to search their id history (without knowing their new id) nor leave anything but positive feedbacks as seller, they cannot be blacklisted, and move on to the next victim with their perfect feedback.

There is nothing you can do but take the loss,  that's why i have stopped selling on ebay altogether.

So make sure you factor that into your calculation the expectation of losing at least 1 miner out of that 6.  In addition to the risk of paypal limiting your account that will take months to get your money out (if it is under your name, if it's a stealth account kiss your money good bye), nothing gets your paypal account limited faster than selling multiple bitcoin hardware / casascius coins that's above $500.  Add insult, they take 10% in final value fee for everything you sell.

just saying...

Good points.
Don't use Paypal: I sold 3 Jupiters on Ebay so far in 2 seperate transactions (2 before Christmas and one 3 days ago and all went smooth).
But I always opt for cash on delivery. The 1st guy was from the Czech Republic who drove all the way to London to pick up 2 of them, while bringing £18500 in cash.
The 2nd was a local indian guy Smiley

And btw Ebay take 10% up to £75, which is reasonable when you make a sale for thousands of pounds.
