I still feel they'll qualify and win at least one of their remaining matches but can imagine the heartbreak if they fail to secure even the last spot and GT or DC slide in.
I doubt that. They pretty much qualified already and their NRR is pretty good too. Their performance in this particular match has been crappy though thanks to some great bowling performances by CSK.

Their momentum got screwed by SRH and they are going downhill at the worst time possible, but they are still great contenders for the cup if you ask me.
They should but one big defeat and their NRR could take a serious dent.

RR has 1 match against Kolkatta so it won't be a cakewalk for them and 1 against Punjab, they are weaker but they did produce a fair amount of thrillers so fingers crossed for Rajasthan.

BTW, which opening pair do you think is explosive Abishek/Travis or Gill/Sudarshan? I do not think the BCCI selection team can ignore a few incredible batting talents like Sudarshan and Gaikwad anymore they should add these guys in the squad.
In IPL, I believe in Abhishek-Travis and Salt-Narine supremacy, no other duo comes close.

There is a shit ton of competition for the opening slot. Gaikwad is on a waiting list atm Sudarshan is nowhere close. Also, senior members need to move on and give space to young ones. Unfortunately, it didn't happen in this cycle because Indian selectors were not bold enough to take calls on senior players.

...and RR settles for 141 — were they playing to lose? Do they want CSK in play-offs? is it in service for Dhoni? CSK will definitely try to chase this mediocre target fast to get that crucial NRR boost.
The royals choking royally! This would be their 3rd consecutive defeat, it seems like they ran out of luck after their encounter against SRH (1 run defeat).

I still feel they'll qualify and win at least one of their remaining matches but can imagine the heartbreak if they fail to secure even the last spot and GT or DC slide in.

KKR are playing well despite losing wickets at a steady rate which has been their hallmark throughout this particular season. Am expecting them to score something close to 170 which should be enough against this weak MI side.

Kolkata winning would put pressure on RR since the top spot in the playoffs gets 2 critical chances to move forward. Also, the commentary in this match has been pretty bad(Especially Murali Karthik).
I reckon, scoring under 10 runs per over won't be ideal here.

It's a 16-over match and they need big runs in the last 2 overs and cross or maybe touch the 12-13 runs per over mark. Yaar, I want RR to secure 1st position. I like what KKR are doing this season but still want RR to reach the finals without any hurdles.

James Anderson has announced retirement after Lords test against West Indies. He has a career of 21 years in which he has played 187 test and picked 700 wickets which is highest wickets by any pacer. He is very close to 42 years and it's good time for him to say good bye to international cricket. Only Sachin has played more test then James Anderson, this shows the level of fitness James Anderson has maintained over period of time.
He's a legend and we won't witness this sort of longevity from any fast bowlers but IMO he should've retired during the last Ashes. He was a big disappointment in the Ashes and that too on home turf.

The Indian tour wasn't good either and felt like a big letdown. Against 2 strong opponents (Aus and Ind), he picked only 15 wickets in the last 8 matches.

Yeah, the scoring went down in the last 5 overs. Kudos to CSK's bowlers for nailing wide deliveries perfectly.

I mean most of those deliveries would have been given wide had Khan/Miller stopped chasing them.
Don't know who came up with this new rule but kudos to the ICC/IPL committee, a slight tweak in the wide rule turning out to be quite good.

Before batters used to dance and flirt with the off-leg stump through their guards and bowlers were helpless but now if you move slightly before the bowler releases the ball. Bam! The umpires are not hesitating to favor the bowlers which is good.

Entertaining stuff from GT openers, this is what they have been missing all this season. Luck was also on GT's side today.

They kinda choked in last 5 overs though, couldn't get as many runs as they could have, Tewatia might have been better choice after Gill/Sai departure imo, 233 target is still chaseable, match hasn't completely slipped from CSK yet.

On irrelevant note, I used to watch English commentory but Hindi is much funnier.

Listen to Bhojpuri, Punjabi or Haryanvi, it's worth it. Bit of bastardization of the Punjabi language but still pure gold at times.

Crisis mode is activated in CSK's camp, losing is alright but taking a hit on run rate could be dangerous. DC, RCB, Lucknow, or to some extent, SRH won't mind that.

Punjab must be the most consistent team in the IPL regarding not making it into playoffs. I don't remember when was the last time they qualified for playoffs.

It Must be close to a decade. They are more like Afghanistan and only entertainment fans with some thrillers and then shit the bed with some win here and there.
Agreed. So many stars performed really well for them over the years like Gayle, Rahul, Sehwag etc, but they never managed to win a single cup yet which probably won't change anytime soon unless they make some huge changes.

I may be on minority on this one but I find their team good, I feel like they are lacking proper guidance.
They always had a good team and looked good on paper in almost every season.

It's just they don't back their players for long and consistently fail to build core, foreign or most importantly Indian players. I won't be surprised if they even drop the likes of Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma after some failure, not soon though because they got em at a base price like 20-ish lakh or something.

For the right reasons, KL is getting a lot of sympathy because of Goenka's public outburst. Mr Goenka has a history of being loudmouth and arrogant as well.

Not sure if BCCI going to interfere at least not publicly. They might do some backchannel diplomacy but that's it. As of now, reports are coming in that LSG might drop KL soon.

It is now confirmed that he will be dropped as a captain and the vice-captain of LSG will become the captain for the rest of the games. He will be dropped from LSG and he will be going for auction for the next IPL. I am still clueless as to which franchise will be interested in buying KL Rahul, he has been already dropped from the Indian team, and the current situation might get him some sympathy but his future is looking bleak.
LSG not retaining KL seems logical, 16 crore is big money and you've to justify your worth, in which he's consistently failing but I haven't seen any confirmed report yet though, it's only on a speculation level and we will only know when we see his name dropping in auction or some official announcement from the LSG management.

Surprisingly, no sports site picked up other stories of Vice captain Pooran replacing him in the remaining matches in this season.

Punjab are out yet again while RCB are still hoping for a miracle. Priety Zinta has a lot of patience and is clearly not a quitter since her team keeps crashing again and again due to various reasons.

Anyway, coming to CSK vs GT, Gujarat is already out and are trying to drag Chennai out along with them which probably won't happen since I am expecting CSK to win this one.

Things could get spicy on the points table if GT wins tonight, which already looks tight.

~snip~

Not very surprised with the developments. Mumbai Indians used to be one of the strongest sides in the history of Indian Premier League. Just one stupid move and the entire team disintegrated. What was the point in replacing Rohit Sharma with Harddick Pandya? Rohit was performing amazingly well and all of a sudden they disrupt the equilibrium by importing Pandya from the Gujarat Titans. Pandya do have powerful backers though, both in the IPL and in the Indian national team.
Few already mentioned his age factor so I won't go into it.

Just check his last 5 IPL season numbers and it suggests that as an opener he wasn't making any noise with the bat while batting in powerplay. He was in the team only because of his captaincy.

I was never a big fan of KL Rahul, but it is humiliating and disconcerting to see such a pathetic response from LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka in front of a live audience. For me, this kind of behavior is unprofessional and unacceptable. The question that comes to my mind is, will BCCI take action against the franchise owner? If it was a player then they would have taken strict action and would have fined the player the match fee.

Both these teams have 8 points + a low RR and are left with only 3 matches, at best one of em could get 6 points if one manages to win its remaining matches. It's an eliminator for both participants.

Not to mention, run rate is also a critical ingredient for the playoff so I'd say less than a 5% chance. Cricket is a weird and funny game so anything could happen but  I'd term it as a dead rubber. Grin

In this season of the IPL, a good match can mean a huge boost in terms of the net run rate. During yesterday's match, Sunrisers Hyderabad originally had a negative run rate to start with (-0.076 or something near). After they managed to demolish the Lucknow Super Giants, they ended up with a NRR of +0.406 and moved to the 3rd spot in the points table. So I would say that things are quite unpredictable at the moment. But honestly I don't expect RCB, PBKS, MI and GT to qualify for the playoffs.
Sure why not if the RCB bowler restricts Punjab under 49 (RCB's lowest score xD) and chase down the target within 3-4 overs then there is some possibility lol.

Same for Punjab and these folks need to repeat their performance in the remaining matches as well. TBH it's a fool's errand if you ask me. MI knocked out already.

Today we have RCB vs PBKS, I thought it's a dead rubber game but apparently from what commentator said yesterday it's only MI that is out from play-offs race, so are these two still having chance?

Head-Abhishek did make a mockery out of this chase, right?

Indian fans must be mighty happy with the exclusion of KL Rahul now. The dude played a 29 runs inning off 33 balls, where opposition openers are striking over 250, must be so embarrassing for him but I am still more interested in his post-match interviews and divine insight.
56  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: May 08, 2024, 02:37:54 PM
Hope, they didn't peak too early lol.

Always happens with Rajasthan Royals, right? Their two batting superstars for this season (Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag) did a decent job. But in the end, a 220 plus target proved to be a bit too much for them to chase. They lost the game because their bowlers were really wayward. Avesh Khan went for 42 runs in 2 overs. Trent Boult and Sandeep Sharma went for 48 and 42 respectively from their 4 overs. Only Ravichandran Ashwin bowled economically, as he conceded just 24 runs from his 4 overs (and picked 3 crucial wickets).
Lol yeah, they have this weird habit of going down as the tournament progresses but look at the bright side, they are making things interesting, and now Delhi has also entered the juicy scenario.

Conclusive evidence helps, unfortunately, the 3rd Umpire didn't use all the resources. It only implies how poorly they are trained in all the tech stuff.
3rd umpires in Cricket made me respect on field umpires a lot  more. Their analysis parts are some of the most comical parts in any game.
Checked the 3rd Umpire's name and it turned out to be Michael Gough, an elite ICC umpire. Overall, he's a good one but seriously needs more training with the technology.

It's true for a majority of umpires, most of the time they are good when on the field but sometimes fumble when pushing the buttons.

Umpiring has been questionable in this season but in the post-match analysis, it did look like Shai Hope didn't touch the rope. Having said that when Umpires take ample time to check wides etc then they should also check such incidents from different angles. You simply can't rush your decisions and create unnecessary controversy.
It was pretty obvious that Hope didn't touch the rope since you could literally see the shadow properly which is why this isn't a controversy at all and Samson should have walked off instead of questioning the umpires in this case.
Fan's judgment could be clouded and depend on loyalties. At first look, It was a tight one and could've gone either way but it's only up to umpires if they want to give the benefit of the doubt to the fielder or batter.

2 consecutive losses to RR so it feels like RR finally decided to choke in the last phase of the season.
This is what I thought too. RR choking in this manner right before the playoffs is a bad sign for them. Momentum is on KKR's side.
Hope, they didn't peak too early lol.

There is going to be a lot of controversy after this match. The main reason why Rajasthan Royals won this match was due to the fact that Sanju Samson was given out when he was caught by Shai Hope near the boundary line. For me, it looked as if Hope's foot was touching the boundary rope. Samson was quite upset and he had an argument with the on-field umpires. After he got out, wickets fell like a peck of cards, and in the end Rajasthan fell short by 21 runs. Samson fans are going to be mad at Michael Gough, the TV umpire.

Adidas did the design but the final nod came from BCCI.

Rajasthan is famous for the Pink City (Jaipur) so IMO they opting for pink makes complete sense. A couple of teams like MI and RCB got decent ones. SRH messed up big times though.

Adidas could have shown a better design to MR Shah. Now, RR jersey makes sense still pink colour is not for men. SRH is owned by a lady I guess those puzzle maze design on it make sense  Cheesy
Just to add something interesting here since you mentioned " Owned by lady, I suppose you meant to say RR" Her( Shilpa Shetty) husband was involved in pornography and if not wrong sex racket as well, he served some time.

Anyway, wtf is going on with Delhi? lol

Okay, these new mugshots are not looking that bad and bring some normalcy. The first look of the leaked shot looked quite horrible tbh

Artistic creativity is not a forte of BCCI so I don't expect any sort of creativity from Baniya BCCI, they are just good at printing money and sucking out blood from fans, that's it.

I am not sure but I think the design of Jersey is being done by Adidas and approved by BCCI. Still being one of the richest cricketing board in the planet they should have added colours which complement the base blue color. I like the way MI jersey has been designed it looks rich and pleasent at the same time whenever players come tonthe field. The worst according to me is the jersey of RR as I don't understand the concept of using pink color for men jersey.
