DC is sinking for like the billionth time. Their middle order sucks and their batsmen are being too careful except for Warner. RR actually turned the tide since it looked like they wouldn't reach 160 at one stage. Also, will Buttler ever retain his form? What happened to Parag? How come he starts acting like a mature individual? Parag has really improved in this season and it looks like RR repeatedly giving him unlimited chances seems to be paying off finally. He also had a good domestic run, so it's a good sign. He's just 22 yo (not your average "hide the age type") so RR did well by backing him. Now he has to show consistency with some impactful knocks, even on losing cause as it doesn't matter in the long run. Not just Buttler but Jaiswal is also looking quiet with the bat. Anyway, it's a long tournament so I'm sure they will come around.

A lot of people were blaming Hardik Pandya's captaincy after the first innings. Everyone thought Hardik was unable to create pressure on the Sunrisers Hyderabad batters by bringing variations in the bowling lineup. Mumbai batting performance has proven it wrong. Still, the fans are targeting Hardik as he didn't bat well. If a bowler gives 9 or 10 runs per over in that pitch, then the bowler can be considered as economical bowler.
I do agree with them to be honest. Hardik was running around everywhere and was very energetic, but he didn't use his brain effectively. He saved Bumrah for later instead of using him quickly to slow down the SRH batsmen which was a really bad decision. He is a decent captain for sure, but he is nowhere as good as Rohit thanks to his wealth of experience and strategies. Hardik is a victim of Main Character Syndrome. It's a problem for both Pandya brothers, which sometimes makes them very insecure and it reflects on the field. They promote themselves in the batting order and pick a new ball responsibility out of nowhere. Hardik does it regularly and his brother is not far behind as well. --------------------------------------- What happened to Parag? How come he starts acting like a mature individual?

Hardik must have gotten good money to move back to MI but I the way he's performing (whether it be as a captain, or as a batter) and how public has reacted to his transfer, he was better off in GT. He might not stay as a captain for long either with his current performance, his captainship decisions already come off an egotistic.

Maybe VadaPavBiryani.
The highest score in the IPL, the previous highest was 263. It was a pure massacre and mind you there was no mindless hitting like ramp shots etc but cricketing shots with brute force were on display.
Lol! I was checking the previous highest score and noticed that Gayle helped RCB score 263, but that was pipped quite easily to 2nd position thanks to Head, Abhishek, Markram and Klaasen. I was stunned to see MI score 245 under such insane pressure. This just proves that the pitch is batting heaven and MI and SRH bowling has been mediocre so far this season. I won't blame the bowlers here because the pitch was insanely good to bat on and every batter had a field day. It doesn't help that the longest boundary (Straight) was only 77 meters and square boundaries were around 65-67 meters. The kind of power modern batters have and adding big trees disguised as a bat in equation with an absolute road. IMO it's a perfect recipe for massacre, one can only pray for the bowlers.

What the heck did SRH players eat?
Maybe VadaPavBiryani. The highest score in the IPL, the previous highest was 263. It was a pure massacre and mind you there was no mindless hitting like ramp shots etc but cricketing shots with brute force were on display. Feel bad for 17yo debutant Kwena Maphaka. He was excellent in the recent u-19 ODI WC, he took the beating but he'll learn a lot with this gig despite getting belted by everyone.

The comparison between Pandaya and Rinku is ridiculous, they don't even compete against each other for the slot. Rinku comes in as pure batter, he used to bowl part-time off spin but that's it. Rinku has good technique in batting, knows how to hold his wicket, is less egoist than Hardik but if I were to choose between Hardik and Rinku, I'd go with Pandya, his shots are beauty to watch and can fill few overs as well. Odiwc scenario would have been possibly different had Hardik been there, even for GT his absence is obvious, more obvious than of Shami. His availability makes huge difference in squad, and makes batting look deep. The thing is selectors dont have to choose between pandaya and rinku. You replace all rounder with another all rounder, batter with the batter and bowler with the bowler. Rinku's competition is with batters and team combination matters because you need 6 bowling options. Rinku could've get in easily if Rohit and kohli had taken retirement from t-20 format.

^^^ If he performs poorly in the IPL, then Hard dick Pandya should be dropped from the team. He isn't bowling a lot recently, so I am not sure whether he fits in the classification of "seam bowling allrounder". And in terms of batting capabilities, Rinku Singh is miles ahead of him. And at 31 years, Hardik is no longer young. Rinku is 4 years younger when compared to him. Anyway, I will wait until the IPL finishes to pass any judgement on Hard dick. I have a feeling that this guy is unwanted both in MI and in Indian national team.
Let us keep personal bias aside when talking about WC teams. Nowadays Pandaya is getting a lot of hate for the right reasons but it doesn't change the fact that he's a fine seam all rounder and we are yet to find his replacement. The only player who comes close is Shardul Thakur, in limited-overs cricket it's a downgrade. Deepak Chahar could have been the good option but his body is made of glass and he only wants to play IPL. The comparison between Pandaya and Rinku is ridiculous, they don't even compete against each other for the slot. Rinku comes in as pure batter, he used to bowl part-time off spin but that's it. Plus, What's difference between seam all rounder and bowling all rounder?
Every bowler who can bat comes under the bracket of a bowling all-rounder. He could be a spin or seam all-rounder for example" Axar (Spin) and Thakur (Seam).

^^ They have a reason to worry about him but IMO he's a class act and arguably one of the best batters in Bangladesh. It's just the poor guy is going through a rough patch, which happens to everyone.
Once the team starts to win, Das Babu could come back with the form as well, even if he manages to score 50 odds runs. I think it might happen in the next test match because possibly we'll witness the spin track in the next match and rumors are popping up that Shakib might come back so another boost for the team and openers.

Has Gill got any chance as one down batsman?
In my calculation, it's close to zero chance unless Kohli or SKY gets injured and one of them is ruled out from the upcoming t-20 WC, even after this IPL will surely throw more exciting prospects for one down or second down. You have to remember that even the likes of Rinku Singh might find difficulties getting into Playing XI or in some scenarios even in the squad and as far as T-20 goes Gill is way down in the pecking order. Rinku should not be left out of WC playing XI no mstter what because we know what he is capable of and he is something special and he is going to finish the matches for team India in the future. Let's look at 15 Men's squad 1. Jaiswal2. Rohit3. SKY4. Kohli5. Wicketkeeper Batter (Jitesh, Jurel, Sanju (maybe) or ffs i hate it but possibly KL Rahul because of Dravid) 6. Seam All rounder Hardik7. Spin All rounder Jadeja8. Bowling Allrounder who can bat (otherwise tail would be too long) 9. Kuldeep 10. Bumrah11. Siraj/Arshdeep 12. Backup opener (Gill, Gaikwad) 13. Backup spinner (Possibly Allrounder Axar or genuine wicket taking spinner Ravi Bishnoi/ Chahal -Low chance-) 14. Backup Seamer (Siraj/Arshdeep) 15. Backup WK batter (Jitesh, Jurel, Sanju or KL Rahul) The one with bold font will be a sure shot for every match, given they are fit unless there are some injuries or they are expecting any rest against any weak teams. Now tell me where will you fit the Rinku in this 15-men's squad?

I have been wanting to ask; I know everyone of us has something we look out for when predicting the winners of a match so I`d like to knwo if you guys can share with us what characteristics you look out for when making that selection. Some go for the overall game play of that team, while others go for those teams that are quite popular and have earned themselves some reputation, or did you choose them because your favourite player is on that team?
I beleive this will strike some kind of discussion here in this thread.
The t-20 format is usually unpredictable. Once in a while upsets do happen but most of the time predicting a particular team winning becomes easy due to various reasons like toss, conditions and experienced playing XI. It won't reflect much on this prediction thread because we have to post our predictions before the toss (Saying toss because in some conditions toss could become important because of dew or slow behavior of pitch). Normally you look at the roaster and check what kind of players are in the playing XI (Form also matters) and these days it has become an important ritual because of the new rule "Impact player" and the majority of the time it depends on the toss and match situation as sometimes team brings Impact player too early and sometimes very late so this new rule adds a new dimension of unpredictability.
Overall, intro of IPL teams. Teams like MI and CSK are strong and most consistent teams in the IPL. RCB always had the best players but they have a habit of choking against everyone. 16 freaking seasons and no trophy despite being represented by the Peak trio of Kohli-AB-Gayle. SRH used to be good but they fucked up their team after Warner Saga (Dubai leg during Covid, i guess) and going down every season. DC and KKR are excellent teams but not consistent enough, sometimes not even on their home turf. GT and LSG are quite new but they have a pretty solid squad. Especially GT looks fine because they have Ashish Nehra. This guy's life is meme and full of fun but he's one of the finest cricketing brains in the cricketing world. Punjab brings excellent talent and turns them into memes because of shitty management.

There is no chance for Shikhar to get selected in t20wc squad, there is already tough competition for top order. It's likely Gill, Jaiswal, Rohit, Kohli, Surya who are going to make it, out of these Rohit has already been declared as T20 wc squad captain.
BTW, I really missed Surya in MI game yesterday.
No matter how good Shikar or Kartik perform, they should not be near the WC squad. Their time is up for good and after this T-20 WC Rohit and Kohli should also empty the slot. Gill won't find a place in the Playing XI because Jaiswal and Rohit are set for the opening slot, he can become a backup opener though but competition is tough.

~snip~
Almost everyone posts the prediction without any discussion, so engagement is missing. I did try to engage once but no one else was interested. Not to mention that there are 3-4 IPL discussion threads and everyone wants to promote his/her thread. IMO it's not good at all for a small cricket community. I'd suggest you take the initiative and start engaging with the community and you have to be active here, otherwise, it won't work. It's a long tournament so keep trying.

Chinnaswamy venue is getting slower from it's usual pace? The run scoring is not easy as used to be but credit goes to Siraj and Yash for bowling tighter lengths that kept the scoring rate lower.
Still the target is easy for RCB standard but need a couple of decent partnership to win this match.
No, it's a high scoring ground no matter what. Tonight RCB did bowl well and 2 bouncers per over rule did play its part and it's working in favor of bowlers, which is an incredible addition IMO, otherwise batters feast on bowlers every single time. So it's just due to the beginning of the season, I guess. But players mentioned that pitch doesn't looks like the usual pitch and there is some uneven bounce as well as ball slides off the pitch makes run scoring a little bit difficult. RCB win the match in the end, again great knock from DK their Imp sub did the job perfectly. RCB is struggling in the middle phase that needs to be sorted out if they want to achieve their forever dream. As i mentioned earlier, the new rule of 2 bouncers per over played its part here and will continue to do so in almost every match. It gives bowlers another weapon in batting friendly format. Chinnaswamy's boundaries are small and it's six hitting ground, batters do this for fun here but it didn't happen last night. Also, not a fan of the Impact player rule in the IPL. It changes the equation so drastically, it's good for theatrics and will provide thrillers but won't produce all rounders in the long run.

Teams like KKR and RR have some absolute monsters in their team implying that the management made some really smart choices due to which I am expecting them both to go far in this particular season.
MI looks like they are all set to win their first match unless they mess up which I don't think will happen though we never know. Also, it's so weird seeing Rohit and Dhoni not as captains anymore.
Historically RR and Sanju always perform in the first match and then in the next few matches they manage to shit their bed, royally. Similarly, MI also lost their inaugural IPL match and they have been doing this for the last 12 seasons so everyone is trying to keep their tradition alive.

Telling you, this impact player is a bad rule and as far as Indian cricket is concerned, it's the worst rule because you won't produce all-rounders. Also, for this prediction thread lol To give you an example, both Dewald Brevis and Another Sharma ji ka ladka Mohit weren't in the playing XI but both of em made a fair amount of impact in the match. Having said that, loved the moment when 3 young players (Brevis, Tilak and Sai Kishore) shared a screen. At least, the future looks good.

LOL.. finally it looks like Riyan Parag is going to get launched in this edition of the Indian Premier League. For the last 10 seasons or so, Rajasthan Royals management had provided a regular spot for him in the playing XI, despite getting nothing in return. It looks like he has finally managed to make use of his opportunities. And given the fact that he has powerful backers in the BCCI, I expect him to feature in the national team without much delay. Another player with powerful backers (Sanju Samson) is batting from the other end.
I don't think what made you think Parag was included in Playing XI because of influence in the BCCI? Riyan Parag usually comes at lower down the order that's why he can't make performances in terms of stats but he always comes in handy at crucial matches and he had very good domestic tournaments this year which forced RR team management to promote to his natural batting order and expect more in stats. Lol don't take Sithara seriously when she uses these keywords -Nepotism,BCCI, powerful backing with -insert name of any player-. So overall, in my experience, she tends to exaggerate whenever she touches this topic. ---------------------------- Pandaya picked a new ball, only to get belted and the crowd booing him continuously. Fun time! I'd accept nothing less from his former franchise fanbase

Poor Bangladesh! They must be feeling like it's an away series for them.
First, they got belted by 2 visiting batters throughout the match and visiting bowlers outbowling them by a mile on their home turf. Bangladeshi cricket was already struggling but once you start losing at home convincingly, it means you are losing the plot completely.
