If Pant regains his usual form and fitness then he would be the strongest contender for captaincy but only in Red ball cricket because for red ball you have to consider Home/Away conditions as well and he fits the bill for every condition. Rahul can challenge him in the test format if he starts working on his wicket-keeping, especially on turning wickets, plus agrees to bat in the middle order.
True. I feel that he would be a strong contender not just in tests, but in the T-20 format too. I see Pant, Rahul and Iyer being great potential contenders for captaincy in the future once Rohit steps down.

Hardik was pretty average as a captain so far which is why I feel that he should just focus on playing as an all-rounder which is what he does best.
At this very moment, i'd very much prefer role-based captaincy in every format so won't mind 3 different captains for all 3 formats. Virat and Rohit have already set the formula for ODI and Test formats. In this WC everyone had their set roles in every slot and it almost paid off. We already know what Virat's lead test team did in the last 6-7 years, results are there for everyone to see.

Pant's spot is not fixed in the T-20 Playing XI or in some cases squad. There is so much competition for middle-order (now top order too) WK batsman who can play the finisher role so IMO he's not a strong candidate in the T-20, and the same with the ODI format if KL and Kishan are in good nick.

KL could possibly fit the captaincy role in test and ODI if he gives up his dream of becoming an opener (That's where (Top-3) everyone wants to bat because it's glamorous and a marketable spot in terms of money and deals). He should bat in the middle order (similar to the last ODI WC) and must work on his Keeping. As far as T-20 goes, as an opening/middle order batter, his spot is also not secured in the playing XI. The point is for his survival he needs to become a WK batter. Also, he's too depressed to lead the team in T-20 (maybe ODI too), you need attacking cricket in a short format.

Pandaya actually did a satisfactory job in his T-20I captaincy gig, if he's fit then he should get a long rope. Shreyas has a perfect attitude for captaincy but his fitness is shaky due to back injuries so it's a tricky situation as you don't want your captain to break down in mid series.

Or maybe keep playing dumb charades in T-20 for a couple of months and when the WC comes, hand over the captaincy to Rohit, it won't be a bad idea as T-20 WC is around the corner.

I know there are Politics in Indian cricket too. It's big mystery for me to understand why some of Indian star crickets was never included in the national team after a period of time.
Not following the context, do you mean former cricketer inclusion with the team selection committee or BCCI setup or what?

Whenever the likes of Bumrah, Shami, Siraj, Hardik and Shardul are not available, then management tries their best to rotate new guys on a regular basis and you have to remember you can't have 20 Men's squads for the series.
Valid points which make complete sense, but I don't see the next Bumrah, Shami etc in any of them which is why I am being tough on them. Axar seems like a great replacement for Jadeja in the future.

Also, a random thought which came to my mind is to see Pant return somehow in fully fit condition and captain India in some or another format and end their ICC trophy drought.
In white ball cricket Axar is senior to these new cricketers and has a decent amount of exposure in red ball, still new at the international level (Tests) but more than enough exposure if we count his Ranji experience.

Batters are doing the hard yards and bowlers doing their best to unsettle batters, it seems this is quite a good pitch for Test cricket. Decent juice for bowlers and an incentive if batters apply themselves.

Atm match is in balance and both teams are trying hard to have one good spell of bowling and 1 good session of batting. Bongs might have a slight chance here because they are batting last and the deck should become a proper turner by then (i hope). In the case of Turner, Kiwis should try for parity first then maybe 50 run lead, it would help their cause for sure. Anything over 50 runs lead is just a bonus.
524  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: November 29, 2023, 06:57:06 AM
So I think you are being too hard on these young guys. If they don't get a chance in such bilateral then what's the use of India A performances? The majority of young guys come into the national team after performing for India A, they are not airdropped.
I disagree. I evaluated their performances over a long period of time(Not a short period) which is why I stand by whatever I stated. There are far better bowlers in comparison, but they aren't getting their chances thanks to these bad performers.

Bishnoi and Axar are the only ones who I like among them. Axar is easily one of the best all-rounders for India across all formats.
I was replying to someone else but okay

Arshdeep was the leading wicket taker for India in the last T-20 WC, he's also the leading wicket taker in T-20 since his debut. Krishna is fairly young in T-20I and played only 5 T-20 matches, like I said these guys are not airdropped. Krishna is quite good in 50 overs and a performer in FC/India A. Atm they are trying him in T-20, give him at least 10 matches and if he still fails then try someone else.

Speaking of far better bowlers, you can't bring anyone to the national team just like that. There is a process, you have to perform in domestic cricket then India A or if someone wants to get into the T-20I setup quickly then perform in the IPL or perform a couple of years in Mushtaq Ali Trophy and if you are consistent in the latter tournament then you are already playing in the IPL. Arshdeep did that in IPL and he's a decent performer in domestic cricket as well.

Bhuvi and Yadav are not a contenders anymore. Deepak Chahar is good but he's always injured, guess he's coming back for the last 2 matches. Natarajan is good but he's also injury prone and got dropped due to his injuries. Mukesh Kumar is a new guy and looking decent but he took a leave recently and left the T-20 squad. Umran Malik has pace but he's not ready yet. Tushar Deshpande is a work in progress (won't get much chance imo).

Whenever the likes of Bumrah, Shami, Siraj, Hardik and Shardul are not available, then management tries their best to rotate new guys on a regular basis and you have to remember you can't have 20 Men's squads for the series.
525  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: November 28, 2023, 07:17:02 PM
Lmao. Maxwell gave 30 runs in a single over and took revenge by scoring a superfast century in style barely helping his side get across the line. I felt sad for Gaikwad who played brilliantly, but his effort ended up in vain.

I have no idea why Arshdeep and Krishna keep getting so many chances when they have already proven themselves as below average bowlers over time. Dumb selectors!
It was Flat track and hard for every bowler, barring Behrendorff every bowler went for runs today and don't forget there was more than enough dew during the second inning.

So I think you are being too hard on these young guys. If they don't get a chance in such bilateral then what's the use of India A performances? The majority of young guys come into the national team after performing for India A, they are not airdropped.

That was some chase and again Big Show (Maxwell) put up a great show for the spectators.

I placed a bet when Tim David got out because the odds were too juicy to ignore, got nervous at the start of the 19th over and wanted to cash out but my battery died and I am glad it died lol.

For example, if some player feels neglected by their State board then S/he can move and play for another state, given they have the quality. Even if they don't make it into the international setup, they can make their career in the IPL and if they are not cut out for IPL as well then there is domestic cricket. In all this circlejerk, if you are talented you'll get a chance for sure.

This proves If you are talented enough, you have many opportunities where you can try yourself. But if you talk about my country, there are no state boards. Only one BCB and private clubs. Most of the Bangladeshi young players does not get enough chance because of corruption. At the same time, some players with zero talent get endless chance because some specific person likes them.

Also, IMO successful campaign in u-19 WC is no magic wand for a successful international career. You have to perform consistently with the right attitude.
True. But what if you still performing and see no one even paying attention to you. This Bijoy guy was the highest run gater in the last season and the 2nd highest run gater in the previous season. Yet, BCB doesn't consider him.
If he keeps performing and still fails to get in then surely he doesn't have a sugar daddy to back him up, unfortunate reality but you need someone behind you when politics is at play.

Nowadays 200 target hardly looks daunting and Aussie already got a fine start so the match is very much in balance.
528  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: November 28, 2023, 01:17:25 PM
I think if Pandaya is fit and available for the white ball series (T-20 +ODI) then he'll surely lead the team in T-20, then there is a possibility of him leading in the ODI as well. Fitness is a big issue for Iyer, The dude has a habit of picking injuries out of nowhere so he's a risky bet.

I am not sure about ODI leadership but I don't want to see Rahul becoming the captain of the T-20 and Test team. In fact, selectors should keep him away from the T-20 setup.

Even Hardick is not injury-free. Anyway I don't have an issue with Hardick as the captain, as he is still young and has 6-7 years of prime cricket with him. Test team, IMO should be still under the control of Rohit Sharma. In fact I would say that oldies such as Virat and Rohit should rather concentrate on the longer format, and leave the shorter format to younger players such as Hardick, Shreyas, Rituraj and Shubman. Anyway, the series is just a few days away and the selectors will make the team selection announcement within the next 2-3 days.
The ODI format is not important atm so it hardly matters who is the skipper or core team or who is resting or not, in the context of the 2025 Champions trophy so they could do all the experiments. T-20 WC is coming soon so that should be a priority along with Test Championship so every test series is important.

People are talking about Gill regarding captaincy but IMO he has a lot to prove and is yet to start his captain's journey, he hardly captained in the domestic as well so for now not experienced enough in this role. Rituraj is a new guy in the system so not a strong contender. Hardik, Shreyas and unfortunately Rahul are the big boys after Rohit-Kohli.

I believe the roster is ready, they are just waiting for a release date and not expecting big surprises, except KL featuring in the Test team as a WK batsman.

In the recent matches of India, we saw that Arshdeep Singh didn't play as well as he played in past matches of India, in the Asia Cup 2022 and in the World Cup of 2022.

After that World Cup, he didn't get a chance to play for his team, and he is failed to make his place in the Asia Cup too and in the World Cup of 2023. I think India does well to not give him a chance to play because he is not good for India and maybe it's harmful to the Indian bowling line up, which means right now he is not in his form.
You are mixing T-20 with the ODI.

Arshdeep was never around the ODI squad, even if it was 25 Men's squad so taking him to Asia Cup and ODI WC was never anyone's business. Team management sees him as a T-20 bowler, that's why he keeps playing for India in a shorter format, almost every T-20 match and he's doing an okay job in the absence of Bumrah-Shami-Siraj.

Only one week time is allotted for the Indian team to travel to South Africa and get acclimatized. After the three match T20I series, they will be playing a 3-match ODI series against South Africa. It will be interesting to see who will be included in the squad. There are rumors that KL Rahul will be named as the captain and senior players such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be rested for this series. I find it regressive. Why stick with KL Rahul again and again? I would have rather preferred someone like Shreyas Iyer as the captain this time.

Indians are not alone tho. England and Australia are also following the same pattern and India joined a little late but they are progressing nicely. Also, with the kind of Schedule the Indian team has, having a big bench strength and multiple teams for different formats is becoming necessary.

The good thing is the mentioned countries have good local leagues and there are a lot of players in the pipeline. I don't know if there is any corruption in Indian cricket, but I guess you have enough idea about Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka's conditions. These countries are corrupted as hell and the cricket board too. Believe me, there are a lot of talented players who haven't got any chance in the national team because either they do not have a close person on the board, or they do not have enough money. There is a lot of young talent that has disappeared slowly. One example is Anamul Haque Bijoy! This pic should say something about his capabilities!

Make no mistake BCCI is corrupt af. It's just when it comes to corruption it's not centralized. There won't be a big scandal in the top brass of BCCI but in the State boards, it happens quite regularly.

At the same time, it's well-oiled machinery. For example, if some player feels neglected by their State board then S/he can move and play for another state, given they have the quality. Even if they don't make it into the international setup, they can make their career in the IPL and if they are not cut out for IPL as well then there is domestic cricket. Missed your post.

Batting friendly deck, sometimes even dead wickets + Short Boundaries + majority of rules favoring the Batsman + No reward to any bowling performance (MOM) = Batriachy

According to the performances of Australia in today's match, I can't believe that this team is the winner of the ODI World Cup 2023,

No need to get too excited, it's just a bilateral series that is considered a testing ground for new talent and at the same, it's audition time for IPL and T-20 WC.

Fans shouldn't read much into it and just enjoy Batriarchy moments with the mix of some exciting young talent.

India is going to build a massive score! It seems like this is a batting pitch, at least after seeing how Indian batters playing for now. I did not watch the first match but it seems India is playing with a very different team in this series. Many young talented players playing in this series. Nice to see how India is building teams for different formats of games.

They are making T20I specialist players, One day specialist,s and Test specialists too. India could play against any team by making three teams with the players they have at this moment. That's how strong their team now.

Both openers Gaikwad and Jaiswal are showing plenty of intent, especially the latter being too aggressive and looking beautiful.

Looks like another belter and sweet deck for the batters, bowlers won't like it much here be it Aussie or Indians.

India though won the last T20I need to be careful in today's match. Last game went till 19.5 overs and it could have been anybodies game. Australia lost 3 wickets while scoring 208 runs and India reached there after losing 8 wickets. I think India will go with there previous winning squad with no changes as that will be best choice at the moment.
T-20Is are supposed to finish like this. Ideally, more 20th over or last ball finishes are needed, otherwise, T-20 will become boring as you don't want one team to cruise their way in 15th-17th or even 18th overs.

3 balls 3 wickets (Team Hattrick) don't suit the batting side but it does provide enough cheap thrill to spectators that's why T-20s are fun.
536  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: November 26, 2023, 03:52:50 AM
tomorrow there is second T20I between India and Australia. India is one up in the series and has also won its last 5 T20Is. I think ICC must have given some pause to cricket after such a lengthy ODI world cup. I dont know how many around the world are watching this series just after 4 days of ODI world cup final.

Stadium was full in last t20, I didn't expect that. Pretty sure it's same in watching on TV/Streaming services. Regarding giving break most who played world cup are given rest.

I hope Jitesh Sharma will be given chance to play today, I liked his finishing touches in IPL, no need to keep Ishan Kishan out as he played good inning in last game and is also a good fielder even when not wicket keeping. Make Jitesh WK, Ishan Kishan as fielder, so who should go out? I dunno.
Cricket in India sells like candy so hardly a surprise.

Not sure if dropping anyone after just the first match would be wise. Everyone in the current squad deserves a chance so everything would come down to the pecking order of players. Maybe after a couple of matches, give rest to Kishan and bring Jitesh into the playing XI.

Yeah, and this celebrity culture is really bad in India. It was already bad but after IPL it went onto a different level. I can only hope that once India gets richer, this culture will fade away and people stop worshipping film actors and cricketers.

I don't think this culture will fade away so easily in South Asia as India has taken cricket to next level both in terms of popularity and revenue generation. That's why there is now direct connection between India cricket and Bolly wood film industry.  Today every Indian player is either married to bolly wood star or dating some high profile lady. This will become a culture in coming years that an Indian cricketer will only have a relation with some bolly wood star.
I am assuming that in the next couple of decades, India and her people will get rich. Other sports will also start performing well because it's bound to happen when you get more resources.

Then we will reach a certain point, where the limelight won't be restricted to one particular set of sports or entertainers. Surely popularity won't go down but celebrity culture will definitely take a hit and tone down a bit.

But i must say, Surya played so well after long and finally able to score a good run 80 which is pretty big. As he was a captain, he just adjust everything according to him and thats the reason for his brilliant come back.

I sorta agree here, he tends to do well if he bats up in the order, in wc finale he was sent after Jadeja (1 down from his usual position odi) and he literally got bowler partners to play with. But oh well, it's all done and dusted.
I think now it's fair to say SKY is not ODI or Test material and he should stick with only T-20.

On a funny note, IMO ICC should rename the ICC event into something like Paytm, Tata or Vivo trophy tournament and then see how Indians bring their A game lol.  Grin Grin

Cheesy. That's definitely funny. But I don't think it’s about India not bringing in their top level cricket in this match.
I meant in knockouts because that's where they keep failing despite being consistent throughout any ICC tournament.

Add Josh Inglis to the list too as he played in the semis and the finals.

India is considered a bilateral bully, be it home or away. No matter what they always manage to win most of their bilateral trophy but uff....... well not going down that road as it's becoming repetitive now.

I think Indians have attached unnecessary emotions with this game of cricket. In the end its just a game. Hardly there is anyone on Airport to receive Aussie squad. Nobody cares about cricket anymore except South Asian counties. I too feel frustrated when I see no other sport in the country has been given any importance.
Indian and Australian both were good in this tournament. Indians were just not as good as Aussies were on the final day.

India won yesterday’s match, it was a great and intense match, we couldn’t understand who was the winner of this match until the last ball, the match went to the last ball, this was a suspenseful match.

When India's innings started so we thought that we hear after a few minutes that Australia won the match against India but Surya Kumar Yadav didn’t want this thing will happen so that’s why he led India to victory, and he performed in yesterday’s match as he did, because in whole World Cup their performance was very poor. Surya Kumar is the main reason for this Indian victory.

In Australia squad, Smith and Stonis are the only one that have played recent ODI world cup while in India only SKY is the one that has participated in recent ODI world cup. So both squads have fresh players. The first T20I was high scoring game and SKY was just too good yesterday 80(42). Josh Inglis had an excellent innings 110(50) but it was of no use for Australia.
Add Josh Inglis to the list too as he played in the semis and the finals.

Srilankans are banned? Jeez, your source must be living in some parallel universe so i am sure he must be right in another universe but not here lol.

BCCI is corrupt but they are not a group of manchild, believe it or not but BCCI folks are too busy in busy printing money. Btw how many Bongs from Bangladesh play in the IPL?

Agreed on the money part. BCCI is right now swimming in wads of cash. They got a $1.2 billion per year deal for the IPL media rights and another $230 million per year from the ICC. And recently they signed a deal with Viacom18 for the bilateral series media rights, worth ₹5,963 crore for a 5-year period. Apparently the Indian government is also happy with the potential tax bill from 2024 onwards. The BCCI paid a total of ₹1,159 crore in income tax for the period of 2021-2022. With the increase in revenue, the tax bill may go up by at least 2-3x.
Yeah, hence I said that they don't have time for such shenanigans and petty stuff. BCCI's guys prefer to invest their energy more into new schemes, which assure them bigger paychecks.

I would've believed Fuso.hp if he had provided any official statements but sadly he just went with some random YouTuber's clickbait accusations.
