~snip~

Well.. if the Olympic Council of Asia ask Indian cricket team to take part in the qualifiers, then in all probability the BCCI will just refuse to send a team to the Asian Games. But what I didn't liked is the fact that Pakistan and other full members were given walkover for the quarterfinals as well. During women's competition, 3 out of the 4 quarter-final matches were washed out, and they just gave direct entry to the full member nations to semi-finals. So it is not like these teams got direct entry to the QF stage. They actually got direct entry to the SF stage (apart from Sri Lanka, who had to defeat Thailand to enter the semis).
It's the same old drama for these folks and i don't think we are going to see any sort of change in qualification or existing hierarchy, only because of collective greed.

I still haven't read anything on the new report of the Olympics so not sure if they are going to take the same route or not, if they do then it's a joke as well and another version of the Asian games.

No dew tonight but also no assistance for spin (surprisingly) and no luck for Bangbros, at least 3 half chances with the catching. Things could have been much better for Bangladesh if they had taken those catches. To be fair to Bongs, every catch was a tough one and that's why sometimes luck matters.

For now, they ran out of carrots, first with the bat and now with the ball. Williamson is back to his usual business after a long injury break.

This is usual performance of team Bangladesh. Did you expect better performance from them?
Bongs were spanking everyone at home tho. I remember them beating India in ODI and guess they did the same to Kiwis.

The score is not big but this track supports spin and Bangladeshi spinners are no mug when a pitch assists them. The only worry would be dew here. Expecting Shakib to come soon and hope he continues to do what he does best.

Today match of New Zealand vs Bangladesh team will start in very short time. I want to bet in support of Bangladesh team in today's match. I don't know how well Bangladesh team will play. But New Zealand team is very strong. I know. After that I decided to bet against New Zealand team today. I have taken it. Which team will win today's match will depend on the bowling and batting of Bangladesh team. If Bangladesh team wins the match, I will win the bet.
It's Chepuk again so spin is their best ally against the Kiwis. At the same Kiwis also have 2 spinners and one of them is Satner, Chepuk is kind of his homeground because he plays for CSK

They are bowling second so they should pray for dew to take a week off. NZ is in good form and Kane Mama is back in the squad so won't be an easy task for the Bongs.

New Zealand - 1.33
Afghanistan Bangbros - 3.45

Can Bangladesh defeat New Zealand today and break the Winning streak?

Any comments about the Asian Games cricket competition? This time India won both the gold medals - for men, as well as for women. During the previous editions (2010 and 2014), they had refused to send the teams. This time, a total of 14 teams took part in the men's competition, while 8 teams took part in the women's competition. Originally 18 teams were scheduled to take part in the men's event, but some of them (such as Bahrain) withdrew. Now there are rumors that cricket will be included for the 2028 Olympic Games, which will be held at Los Angeles. More details here:

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/confirmed-cricket-to-return-in-la-olympics-in-2028-1402174
Few observations

-Test status teams should also play in the qualification group stage, I've noticed that associate nations like Nepal, Malyasia, Singapore etc were competing in a group matches and India, Pak, Afg, Ban, SL got direct entry in the quarterfinals. These fixtures were scheduled in such a way that it comes down to only Associate vs Test nations, not fair IMO.

- Then we have the ICC ranking system, we've already vented our frustration about it many times.

Didn't read anything on Olympic exclusion but it's positive news anyway.

Lo BC kar lo baat!

Aussies are doing Pakistan here in their own way and i thought Proteas were going to roll over. This pitch was supposed to be a road for both teams but BCCI playing dirty and using nanobots so they could embarrass the mighty Aussies  Grin and good job bringing BBL fraud in place of Carrey.  Grin

The wicket of Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen at the death overs cost at least 30 runs. Kudos to Cummins-Hazlewood duo for picking these 2, they were about to change gears and things could have been ugly for the Aussies.

Not sure if 310-320 is defendable unless Keshav and Shamsi click with the ball for Protea. 2 tons for De Kock in 2 matches, bummer he's taking retirement from ODI after this WC.

KL Rahul is not consistent in the middle order, in which world?  His 2023 numbers in the ODI: 39, 64*, 7, 75*, 9, 32, 111*, 39, 19, DNB, 58*, 52, 26, 97* DNB.

This season he's averaging above 75 in the middle order. He was shit in the T-20 and Test but in the ODI format when he bats in the middle order, his numbers are solid and incredible asset for the Indian team.

I am not talking about his last 10-15 matches. I was talking about his performance during the last 2-3 years. Good for India that he has come back to form, along with some of the other senior players who had form-related issues. Anyway, this is a golden opportunity for India to win a ICC trophy after a gap of more than a decade. The last time they won, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was the captain. Obiously guys like Virat, Rohit and Hardick doesn't want to be remembered as the ones who couldn't win a single ICC trophy.
Ha! Maybe we shouldn't mix format when judging consistency or form.

He lost form only in T-20 and Tests. In ODI his numbers were always good, as long as he's batting in the middle order. He only gets in the deep hole when opening, regardless of format, unfortunate because he's a natural talent but at the same time depressing and low on confidence as well. KL batting in the middle order solves all the problems as far as the ODI format is concerned.

350 is enough, Nah at least 450 cause the batting depth of India is way down the order and everyone is great form since Asia cup so no matter how much Afghanistan scored it won't be enough compared to team India.

But I really appreciate the effort of AFG batting lineup today because they at least put up a decent total against team like India and few batsmen scored good runs too but the track suited for hitman batting style and he took away the match in the first 10 or 15 overs itself with the way he batted and no bowler gave any threat at all.

350 would have been difficult for India. Shubman Gill is out as a result of dengue fever, and the openers are not scoring enough runs for India (especially Ishan Kishan, as Rohit Sharma scored 131 against Afghanistan today). Then there is weakness in the middle order, with KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya not being consistent with the bat. BTW, Naveen-ul-Haq was the most economical bowler for Afghanistan today, going for 5-0-31-0. Almost everyone else went for more than 8 runs per over. The two opening bowlers (Fazalhaq Farooqi and Mujeeb Ur Rahman) were terribly expensive.

This is a respectable total for Afghanistan, considering at one point they were 68/3. Overall, fine recovery. Although the way their partnership was building, they could have added 10-15 extra runs.

This is Afghanistan's 2nd highest run in the ODI World Cup. Considering the situation they were in, they recovered well. Their Top order could do a little better than how they played there. Usually, ICC tries to organize tournaments on sporting wickets. So, there is nothing special in the pitch for bowlers. So, It's the failure of their top order of not being able to score in the first ten overs.

Even though India is the favorite in this match and they are likely to win the match, I still consider this a good total to defend considering how well the Afghans bowling line up. If they can manage to get a first few wickets in the first ten to fifteen overs, the game will become more interesting.
Respectable but hardly looks defendable atm.

The way Sharma ji ka launda is batting, even 300 looking average score now. Kishan is just another spectator in the stadium and watching Rohit doing all the heavy lifting. Also horrendous bowling from the Afghans.

The best scene of today was when Naveen came to bat and Virat tried to run him out, that got wasted because of Rahul. The next event would be when Kohli comes to bat and he is bowling to him, it would make this match more exciting.
Lol Kohli + Naveen + Mangos.

Indian bowlers were on the money from the start but Siraj was way off-color today and gave up 76 runs. When he leaks, he becomes way too generous. The dude needs to soak up pressure when things are not easy, he's not a rookie player anymore.

Looks like the deck has been completely changed here in the Kotla. The last South Africa vs Sri Lanka encounter here witnessed 750-ish runs, that was a belter and one of the finest highways of Delhi-NCR.

This one has a fine bounce and might offer some assistance to spin as well, Afghans had a decent start tho and I felt they did well but now they are 3 wickets down, maybe they should try to touch 230-250.

Until now all three wickets were taken by the pace bowlers. Jadeja is bowling now, don't see him is getting any help from the wicket. The pitch still looks good for batters. Afghans are struggling because the bowling and fielding of India has been good. The run rate is below 5, I doubt they will be able to get to 250. If they want to beat India they would need more runs than 250. I think a target of 280 and above can be defended on this pitch.
One good partnership and they should cross 250 runs and the current partnership is maturing nicely. They seem to taking a chance against spin now as there is not much spin on the wicket but Jaddu-Kuldeep did bowl some tighter lines.

This pair needs to bat a bit longer for Afghanistan, they have alright hitters down the order when a T-20  type of situation comes to the death overs. India just needs another breakthrough.

-------------
Runs are coming now.

There might be an argument for that but when comparing the Indian batting lineup vs the Afghanistan Bowling lineup. My money would have been on India even if the target was 200. They had only 1 international level bowler Gulbadin and he's quite average at best so i don't think they had any chance.

Having said that i am all in for the competition and not a fan of the dodgy rank winner system, no matter if it benefits team India or not.

If the Afghanistan team had reached the final, it was due to their good performance. They are not playing finals just because of luck. I would slightly disagree with you, that any team that has reached the finals of an event should not be considered weak. Cricket is a game in which sometimes even the stronger team loses to the weaker team.

Therefore, it would be wrong to say that if Afghanistan had given India a target of 200 runs, then India would have easily won. Maybe Afghanistan team could defend 112 runs. However, even if Afghanistan had lost the match, they would not have been so sad after the match as they would have been because of this system.

Like i said there is always an argument of Afghanistan giving tough to Indians or winning.

But Indians were a firm favorite because the Indian team had plenty of experienced players, many even had a fair amount of international experience and were exposed to pressure moments plenty of times.

Indians were a firm favorite to win the gold but if I am being honest then I didn't like the finish.

Teams were not given a chance to chase and defend the total but one team got the medal based on seed ranking. I agree, the result was based on rules but this is flawed and this specific rule should be scrapped for good. We've already seen the same rule going against Associate members a few times, despite being superior sides in the competition.

If you see score card of final then Afghanistan were 112/5 in 18.2 overs. If Afghanistan were allowed to play rest of 10 balls then they could have given a target of 120 to 125 runs, which will be quite competitive seeing the level of competition in Asian games. All I know is cruel DRS method which is known for giving mysterious results, now there is seed ranking in place of DRS.

After watching the match between Australia and India I don't feel like watching any other match. Unless it's a Pakistani or if it's an Indian match.
Wait for the next 3-4 years or a decade, unless a new IPL version of ODI comes in. I am afraid, this reality will kick in soon and hit the cricket world real hard as far as the ODI format is concerned.

I don't see much interest in my social circle in this edition either. Plenty of craze for T-20, particularly IPL and a substantial amount of fanfare for Test cricket (Indian + Ashes).

2/3 Lmao, 3 golden ducks !! Why does it feel like another knockout now?

Okay, all are in good form but ffs just see off the new ball and try to spend some time first or at least pretend. Now below par score looking big and it's just a start.

----------
5/3 scoreline reminds me of, India playing against Kiwi's attack lol
718  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ICC WORLD CUP 2023 ACTUAL DISCUSSION THREAD! on: October 08, 2023, 11:37:50 AM
Indian bowling has been spot on from the first ball. Indian fielding has been excellent today. The pressure created by the Indian team on the Australian batters is visible with their CRR which is below 4 now. Only 15 more overs left to bowl and I expect Australian batters would now try to open their hands as they are hardly able to get the ones or two. With this rate they would be able to give a target of 199 or 220 runs to India.

Edit: Maxwel bowled by Kuldeep.
Spin trio spinning the web!

Now India should go for the kill and wrap up Aussie tail, don't want to see their tail wagging and dragging the game. Just take out the last 3 wickets as soon as possible with minimum damage, it will strengthen the run rate game. You never know what might happen as the tournament progresses.
719  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ICC WORLD CUP 2023 ACTUAL DISCUSSION THREAD! on: October 08, 2023, 07:16:39 AM

The odds suggest that India will win this match.
These odds always suggest that India is winning, doesn't matter what is the situation so never read into much.

It's Chennai and spinners love bowling here and India most likely opt for 3 spinners (Ash-Jaddu-Kuldeep) and 3 seam options (Pandaya-Siraj-Bumrah) attack. Gill absence is a setback as he was in good form but Kishan should be okay at the top. Australians are a beast in the ICC tournament but their spin department looks weak compared to the Indians. Zampa is good but the current Indian middle order is good against spin. Also not sure how Maxwell will perform with a ball, guess he's the 2nd spin option for them. Their seamers have to do a lot of heavy lifting here and they would be hoping for some good outings for Green as well.

Both sides are loaded with batting talent so looks pretty even contest with the bat. In the bowling department, Indians have an edge so they are slightly favorite.

Asian Games

Gold for India
Silver for Afghanistan

The final ended without any result but its the India who got gold because of better net run rate while Afghanistan have to settle for silver.
Bangladesh got bronze in 5 overs game against Pakistan. Batting first Pakistan score 48 runs in 5 overs and Bangladesh were gk en a 65 runs target in 5 overs which they chased on very last ball.
Indians were a firm favorite to win the gold but if I am being honest then I didn't like the finish.
