Whenever the SENA teams play any T-20 match, I can't help but notice a stark difference between SENA and Subcontinent teams.

The former group shows plenty of intent with the bat from ball one, no matter the situation, no matter if the batter is a debutant or they lost a couple of early wickets. They always go for a counterattack, it's like they don't have a concept of fear or an anchor in their gameplan. In contrast, the latter group is completely opposite.

Looks like @JSRAW was bang-on when he stated that this match was India vs Pakistan vs Rain and rain ultimately won at the end of the day. I wish odds were available for rain so that we could bet on it.

Another potentially cracker of a match got washed out. If it wasn't for rain, I think that this match would have gone right down to the wire.
Well, look at the bright side.

The Indian team got a fine batting practice against a quality seam attack. A couple of new guys Gill//Kishan experienced a pressure match against Pakistan for the first time and one of em showed his class.

The first inning turned out to be Afridi+Naseem+Harris vs Kishan + Pandaya. A quality contest between them

Pakistani spin and fielding were atrocious tho. It helped India drastically in the middle order and at one point Indians were eyeing 290-300 but Pace trio made a fine comeback with the ball. Again Naseem was a bit unlucky, he bowled beautifully.

I would like to highlight it was Pakistan Captain Babar Azam, who helped India reach this total of 266 runs. He did a poor captaincy that he bowled his spin bowlers from 15 to 35 over. How can you do that when your pace bowlers are doing the job so well for you? We saw this when the fast bowlers were bought back again, they took wickets again and put the break on the scoring but I think the damage was already done.

India will be quite satisfied to see this score but I feel they could have scored 20-30 more runs, making the game impossible for Pakistan to chase.
Yeah, it was poor captaincy. Pakistan could have finished the game early by taking at least one more wicket. Indian batters were in real pressure but introducing spin did all the trick.

That's where the game drifted a bit from Pakistan otherwise maximum total would've been 200 at best. Still. Having said that 266 is not a big total so there is a fine chance for Pakistan, unless they choke.

Shaheen bowled a peach delivery to Rohit. Kohli was unlucky to get the inside edge and Iyer's wicket wasn't a surprise when it comes to short delivery.
Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah bowled brilliantly in their opening spells and the wicket is aiding the bowlers with substantial movement off the pitch and even the keeper is finding it hard to hold on to the ball because of the swing it generates. If the pitch behaves like this when Pakistan comes out to bat then it will be interesting, right now India is struggling as they lost their 4th wicket under 100 runs.
Yeah and IMO Naseem was a bit unlucky, he bowled brilliantly and should have gotten at least 1 wicket.

Babar could have gone for a kill with 3 seamers, maybe a couple more overs of pace but right now spinners giving the necessary breather to Kishan and Pandaya. They don't seem to pose any threat to both of these batters.
866  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: September 02, 2023, 11:44:53 AM

I think that the Pakistan pace bowlers got helped by the rain break, making the bowl to swing more and creating problems for the Indian team. We have two interceptions in the match and this is hurting India and they are struggling at 50 odds runs for 3 wickets.

Also, this is too early to say which team will win this match as we never know the rain delays may give one team an advantage and the other team a disadvantage especially when the team is chasing.
There is some truth to it as regular breaks are not good for batters but Pakistan bowlers were quite good as well.

I was going through social media posts and everyone is of the opinion that India vs Pakistan clashes are getting overhyped. We will have 2-3 matches between these two teams in the Asia Cup, and probably one in the Asian Games cricket championship. And then we will have 1-2 more matches during the ODI World Cup. This time I can feel it. Hardly anyone among my friends are talking about the match and the interest seems to be down. BTW, India might be having the momentum with them, having won 4 out of the last 5 matches between these two sides (ODIs).
Yeah, not much hype nowadays and only broadcasters trying to engage with fans. Maybe because it's an Asia Cup and lots of other interesting stuff also going on simultaneously.

But i am sure we'll witness genuine interest and hype during the 50 overs WC. For now, enjoy the rain interruption.

Lmao Temba Bavuma striking over 200  Grin Grin

I really hope he bats for a bit long. I reckon his inning would become an epic meme against this Aussie bowling attack. It's the same pitch so Proteas and their fans can expect some fireworks.

Once in a blue moon he scores some runs and then for the next 10 matches he will get single digit scores. Everyone in the media box will praise him and debate whether he is the next Brian Lara. Anyway, South Africa ended up with 164/8, which looks more than decent at Kingsmead. Nathan Ellis and Sean Abbott bowled well, but conceded more runs that they should towards the end of the innings. Disappointed with Dewald Brevis. His franchise T20 form is not getting translated at international level. Got out for a golden duck today.
Bavuma scoring a bit of runs was funny to me because I don't consider him a T-20 player even if he scores some runs once in a while.

They have more than enough batting talent in South Africa and a fair amount of explosive batters in the T-20 format but Bavuma still making it into the squad, i also remember his fuckery in the last t-20 WC. Yeah, Dewald Brevis is not clicking but the kid is exceptionally talented and i am sure he'll perform.

If you count in USD then it does look bad but it looks alright when looking at INR (Bidding was in INR). BCCI knew that there won't be any bidding war due to various reasons and that's why they only wanted a base price to cover, in which they succeded.

Overall it's good for consumers as JIO now has IPL +WPL + All India homes matches + Domestic tournaments for 5 years. At least we don't have to take multiple subscriptions.

For ACC and ICC tournaments, you still need to subscribe to Hotstar. And in case you want to watch some of the quality test series such as the Ashes, then you need a subscription for Sony LIV. Anyway, people like me watch multiple sports, and not just cricket. Asian Games, Olympics.etc are also important and at least some of the Indian audiences may therefore go for other OTT platforms. And it needs to be seen how this monopoly can impact pricing. For how long JioTV will stream matches for free? At some point, they are going to stop free streaming.
JIO has 2 platforms JIO Cinema for OTT (IPL+WPL+ All home Bilateral series + other sports + ETC) and JIO TV, it basically provides every channel like traditional cable and you can watch pretty much every sport with this.

You only need a Jio number and you can access both platforms free of cost. On Jio Cinema you have the option of a yearly subscription if you want to access paid content similar to Hotstar (HBO content).

I still have a Hotstar subscription but i am not sure if i am going to renew it. I might think about taking a subscription for a month or two when some marquee competition comes but clearly won't go for a yearly subscription.

I posted this last year.
Okay guys if you peeps are using JIO tv on your phones and want to access JIO on your pc or laptop then i would suggest you to try this (some might already know this).

Download Bluestacks Android Emulator and download JIO TV app, after this sync your existing jio number. Pretty smooth experience on lappy with excellent quality (Yet to try on Smart TV).

India and Pakistan will play their first Asia Cup match. As we know Pakistan is on the top no. 1 position in ICC ranking so Pakistan has the chances to win this match. So let's see who will win. I hope Pakistan will win the match and will level up itself in the points table.
Lol. By that logic, India should have won a ton of cups by now. ICC rankings don't really matter much in high-stakes international tournaments like this cup, World Cup etc.

Both India and Pakistan have equal chances of winning(50:50). Hope it turns out to be a great encounter.

This match is between India vs Pakistan vs Rain Parera

We have to see who will win. The weather forecast indicates rain interruption and if it happens then it won't be a 100 overs contest but around 60-70 and if everything goes south then 20-20 overs.

Disappointing news for the BCCI. Viacom18 won the auction for BCCI media rights (all of the international and domestic matches hosted by BCCI in India). They will be paying a total of ₹5963 crore for the 2023-27 cycle, while last time Disney Star had paid a total of ₹6138 crore. In USD terms, the difference is much higher ($720 million vs $944 million).

At the start, i was thinking about Bangladesh having a strong hand for obvious reasons (injuries in the Lankan's camp)

But baby Malinga Matheesha really stepped up for the Lankans, Yeah Spin-home advantage did play some part that's why the likes of Dhananjaya finished their quota but Bongs did help them with their batting.

874  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: August 31, 2023, 11:18:05 AM
Sri Lanka should comfortably defeat Bangladesh unless there are some crazy upsets. They are missing some of their star players like Hasaranga etc, but they should be fine primarily due to home ground advantage.

India vs Pakistan is what I am mainly excited for later this week. The last time they played against each other was way back in 2022.
There might be some problems in the India vs Pakistan match because the forecast is not looking good for Saturday.

Part timer Dhananjaya already bowled the majority of his overs, it gives you an idea of how inexperienced this Lankan's bowling lineup is. One positive is that likes of Matheesha Pathirana getting chances.

-------------------------------------------

Now JIO Cinema has digital rights of IPL +WPL + All home Bilateral series.

Viacom 18 bags BCCI rights for both digital and TV, to shell out INR 67.8 crore per game

Not little but way too much as it's a batters game. We have a fair amount of good bowlers in the current generation so this can't be an excuse IMO.

Small boundaries play a big role, also players are becoming fit and strong in comparison to the previous generation.

This trend of having smaller boundaries have negatively impacted the pace bowlers who constantly bowl at speeds of around 150 mph. Examples are Dale Steyn and Mitchell Starc. Despite performing well in test cricket, these players have a poor record in T20 format, because of smaller boundaries that are used for that format. And in test cricket, most of the times they stick with standard boundaries, so it is not so much biased towards the batsmen. Once in a while we get to watch wonderful performances from some of the quality bowlers.
Yeah, no one gets a breather and it does reflect on numbers.

One could make an argument for small grounds as organizers don't have any choice and sometimes you have to pull up boundaries for the safety of players. On the other hand, big grounds virtually have no excuses, organizers deliberately pull up boundaries for more action. I noticed this in the last Pak vs Nep ODI too.

Big guys coming out to bat with a tree in a hand and boundaries are not even touching 60-65 meters. No wonder bowlers get thrashed everywhere nowadays.

Fans do love these hitting but there should be a requirement of a minimum 70-meter boundary in T-20 as you want some sort of competition between bat and ball.

I think cricket is definitely becoming a little too much favourable to the batting side. The bowlers are just guinea pigs. And I also think that this is a big reason why we don't have legendary bowlers like we had in the past anymore.  Even if a Bowler emerges in the scene, a few days later, he is somehow losing his form. Or he is getting injured.

On the other hand, in the past, the batsmen had to do a lot of running between the wickets to actually score more runs.  but nowadays, they just have to stand still and swing the bat very hard. That is simply unfair In my opinion.

How the freaking hell is that filth : Sandeep Lamichhane allowed to play when he was convicted of rape(minor) sometime back? I wasn't aware of this and I won't be watching Nepal's matches going forward.

Against this quality bowling lineup, they should At least try to survive for the next 30 overs. Anything above 30 overs is a bonus and a big learning opportunity for Nepal.
A team that allows a convicted rapist to play aren't really capable of learning much to be frank.
Ah bummer, but we can't do anything about that as it's a management problem.

~snip~
Now they should just look for moral victory and try to spend as much as time possible on the crease. There is no winning pressure on Nepal so play it out as long as they can.

14/3 after 1.4 overs, and their best batsmen are all back in pavilion (Kushal Bhurtel, Aasif Sheikh and Rohit Paudel). I am not sure whether they will survive for 30 overs. Aarif Sheikh and Sompal Kami are trying to rebuild the innings, but they are struggling against the raw pace of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah. One good thing about Nepal is that they have depth in the batting lineup, with Sandeep Lamichhane batting at no.10. Anything above 150 would be decent, and a 200+ total would be considered as good performance.
Who is this Sompal Kami?

IMO he looked quite good for his 28 runs, played a couple of fine shots, and looked flawless to me. Does this guy have any franchise experience?
879  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: August 30, 2023, 02:05:14 PM
Dropped catches are proving costly for Nepal. Pakistan seems to be comfortably cruising towards a score of 350. Nepal bowling imploded after the 35th over and after that their bowlers have been conceding close to 10-12 runs per over. Both Babar Azam and Iftikhar Ahmed have stepped up the scoring rate. Nepal captain looks clueless and he is sticking with the spinners despite them being very expensive towards the depth overs. Nepal is staring at a very heavy defeat in their debut Asia Cup match and only a miracle can save them now.

Surprise to see Multan stadium is empty for limited overs cricket. I was expecting a packed house in the opening match and Pakistan is hosting only 4 games.

I get it, Nepal is a weaker opponent but Multan has one of the cricket hungry crowds in the subcontinent. Hope stands to get filled as the match progresses. At least there is some support for Nepal.

The way Nepal started the game, they did not look like a weaker side. Pakistan were 25 for 2 wickets down and Nepal had the upper hand in the match. If Pakistan had faced any other opponent but would have been in deep trouble by now but since Nepal is the weakest team in this Asia Cup, Pakistan recovered well and now are 82 for 2.

Yeah, maybe the crowd wanted to see the India / Pakistan games in their country and as a result, they are disappointed to know only four matches are being hosted by them.
Nepal could have been in a better position but they dropped 2 sitters and one of them was Babar. Having said that they also managed to get 2 excellent run outs, which was nice.

Rizwan's brain fade moment was funny lol and the dude is turning this into a habit. This is his second brain fade moment in the last 2 matches.
