Asia Cup is coming soon but not seeing any hype from the broadcasters, atm they are busy with useless bilateral series against Ireland. Guess we'll start seeing some promo during the Ireland series.

And 1 good news for Indian fans, there are some reports coming out that Rishab Pant played in a practice match, not sure about the field but he did come to bat.

The broadcasters doesn't seem happy about the tournament, and it is understandable. The schedule is messed up. Some of the matches are taking place in Pakistan, and some in Sri Lanka. And this just adds complexity to the logistics for broadcasters. On top of that, too many India vs Pakistan matches are scheduled to happen in the next few months (including one in the upcoming Asian Games cricket tournament). BTW, I don't know what India is going to achieve by playing against Ireland. It is going to be a completely one-sided series.
Guess uncertainty around the tournament and participation of teams added more headaches to this. They should be happy tho, as far as I understand it should be Diwali time for them and they must milk it.

Aha, I doubt that. It's India A Emerging vs Ireland, not India vs Ireland so it won't be one-sided series. I'd be very surprised if it's a dud.

They did in the first 4 matches.

The Windies scorelines were below par in all matches despite the batting track but in the first 2 matches Indian lost the plot with their batting, not bowling. Chahal performed exceptionally well in the first 2 matches and did a satisfactory job in 3rd and 4th. Yeah, Windies took him to a cleaner in the last encounter but it does happen sometimes and every bowler is allowed to have an off day.
Valid points. I simply expected more from them which is why I was disappointed by the bowlers and the batsmen especially.
Expecting more and criticism is not an issue but we have to be realistic as well.

Players can't perform regularly and even great ones fail, so fans should reserve their judgments and not rule out players completely after a few setbacks. Also at the same time shouldn't hype any player after a few good innings.

I won't blame bowlers, there wasn't much expectation from them but they performed really well and restricted Windies batters in every match, all pitches were belter so they did a fairly decent job.
They did restrict them well in some matches, but they performed badly in some other matches like the last match where a pro like Chahal ended up giving away 50+ runs against the Windies.

Kuldeep was the only one who consistently delivered throughout this series in my opinion.

Chahal was pathetic during this series. He was smashed all over the park by West Indian batsmen.

Indian T20 team can never be called a bad team just because they are doing badly in this series in T20.
They were a bad team in the T-20 series period. They weren't even capable of defeating a team which couldn't qualify for the ODI World Cup which itself says a lot. This is the raw truth regardless of whether you accept it or not.

but India's performance in the third match was not bad but  Had to lose due to some wrong decisions in the bowling department.
Not bad? Hilarious. They misfired in the batting and bowling departments and got decimated by the Windies. Think!

Batting was a letdown, batters did perform but in patches. Samson was major disappointed and Pandaya as a batter and Captain deserve major criticism.

The situation is not black and white but gray.

It's true majority of the fans love fast-paced cricket that's why we are witnessing T-20 Franchise cricket everywhere but at the same Test cricket does matter, at least in England, Australia and India. Indian stadium might go empty during any test series but media rights for these test series are creating new records especially when it's against Australia and to some extent England.

Well.. talking about the media rights, it is already August and we haven't hard anything from the BCCI regarding media rights auction for the bilaterals for the 2024-28 period. It was supposed to be finalized a few months ago. For the 2018-23 period, Star Sports is the media rights holder for both television and OTT, and the deal was signed for ₹6,138.1 crores. This time, apart from Star other candidates in the race are Viacom 18, Sony and Zee. Base price for the 2024-28 cycle has been kept at ₹3,960 crore. And from what I have heard, all the bids will be processed throguh eAuction.
I was talking about the England-Australia media rights sale in India. Both ECB and CA got a great deal from Indian broadcasters. The latter got a juicy one, that's why BGT is now 5 test match series, instead of 4 test match.

Tenders are out for BCCI bilateral rights and should be over by 31st August and yeah i like the fact that they are going with e-auction again for transparency.

There is no threat to the future of cricket in India, cricket is one of their major sports and the Indian cricket board is one of the richest and biggest cricket board.

As far as test cricket goes there is no threat in the longer run, same could be said about Whiteball cricket but atm India is struggling to fill the leadership vacuum and it's hurting Indian cause, especially in limited overs cricket.

One by one next generation captains are failing. Initially, management was looking at Iyer as a future captain but because of injuries, he hardly play regularly. They also tried KL Rahul, which backfired. Pandaya did look alright at the start but nowadays he's going overboard. Atm he's all talk but no performance or hint of leadership. He's taking the captaincy gig for granted and only seems to promote himself. Taking new ball every now n then, the main bowlers are under bowled and batting up at the order for no reason.

Indians botched up their inning on a batting track. They are like 30 runs short and don't think it's a winning total.

Openers failed but Gill was unlucky because his partner advice him not to take review and he was not out. Batting was looking good when SKY and Tilak were batting but after that it went down the drain. Samson is disappointing and not taking advantage of limited opportunities. Hardik played a crucial inning, not for his team but opposition.

ICC is trying too hard for the USA market but things are not working out atm.

Look at the overall price situation, even hard core Indian fans/ex-pats are avoiding going into grounds, who normally fill up grounds anywhere in the world for virtually any Indian match.

The situation could've been different if it was a day/night encounter but again these guys also want to entertain an Indian Tv audience.

So far it turned out to be a cakewalk, which was unexpected after the first 2 close matches of the series. I was expecting a kinda tight contest but that's how things go sometimes.

Sensing a bit of healthy competition between both the openers. They are going neck and neck with each other as far as the scoring rate is concerned and more importantly complimenting each other nicely.

Fair to say it's 2-2 and we will have a final tomorrow.
Hetmyer gave his team one of the best target with his blazing inning and things were also looking for the fighting end of this match but IPL experience helps these wonder kids to throughout West Indies out of the ground with this style and bring this series at the level after losing two early matches as they hit 57 runs in last five overs and have target like 179 most of the fans were having fingers crossed because things were never been easy for the team to chase this target but their confidence and approach to this match was impressive and with this all they chased this target easily now look like we are going to have one-sided affair in last match as well because suddenly West Indian moral is down, and their bowling is also losing its rhythm as well.
True but overall i think the key moment was when Kuldeep took out Pooran and Rovman Powell in the same over.

Pooran especially is in good form and is a destructive batter. The score could've been 190+ if he was batting till the end as the pitch was a belter. Indian bowlers deserve credit for restricting Windies.
931  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: August 13, 2023, 08:46:11 AM

To be fair to India, their 7 good years of test cricket came when Dhoni left the test captaincy and Kohli took over. India has been performing exceptionally well in Test cricket and a majority of the time were the number 1 test team with 5 Test Mace.

Also without any doubt, best test touring team in recent times but yeah in white ball cricket things are going in the opposite direction.

The thing is, the majority of cricket fans follow the shorter formats of cricket now a lot more compared to test cricket. So I think most of the people have been a little biased in their judgement. Most of the people have been a little biased because most of them have been keeping up with the shorter formats of cricket instead of test cricket.

Tbh India vs Malaysia Hockey Asian Championship final looks more thrilling and exciting.  Grin

I am watching both simultaneously, cricket for powerplay hitting from the young batters and Hockey for some fine attack after halftime, an excellent comeback in hockey from India.

Windies had a fine start in the powerplay but India pulled things back nicely.

But this is a batting track so Windies can still touch the 170-180 mark if they bat sensibly and not throw their wickets against Kuldeep, who is looking dangerous.

It's not about age or Sikhar per se but BCCI's lack of communication with the players. He's not the only player. Prithvi Shaw said the same thing recently.

Another plus point is regarding Suryakumar Yadav. There was some criticism that he can't perform away from home. But this time he scored runs and managed to silence his critics.
Lol  Grin

I wonder who are these critics, I am yet to see any criticism of SKY in T-20 and tbh never come across any critics but if there are some then surely those bunch are not very bright.

Both Bangladesh and India find themselves facing similar circumstances. I had a feeling that when Mashrafe bin Mortaza from Bangladesh, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni from India are going to retire, there is going to be a problem for both of the teams, trying to find a suitable captain for the future. And that is exactly what is happening with both of them. It’s not because they do not have players who cannot be the captain of the team. It is because they are not finding any player who can be the same level of captain that they were for their respective teams. And I don’t think they are going to find any players like that in recent times. That’s why all this experimenting is going on.

Dhawan is already 37 years old and the decision to retire for the upcoming Ireland series is a decision too soon in my opinion because he can still play well and at least decided to retire when he was 40 years old.
After all, he has also been the player who has scored the most goals for India several times, so his ability at this age has not decreased significantly
The BCCI might have given Dhawan the ultimatum that he wont be included in the upcoming World Cup squad and if that is the case this is the right decision for him to retire as there are a lot of talented youngsters waiting in the bench, mostly players wont be getting a chance to have a good farewell series, so it is a positive aspect for Dhawan to play a series even against an associate team and make his retirement.
This is one of the major problems in the selector committee and BCCI, these guys hardly communicate with the players.

Sikhar recently mentioned in one interview that no one from the selector told him anything, in fact, he was surprised about his exclusion from the Asian games. At the same time, he was quite chill and wasn't bitter as he understand that the talent pool is increasing and it is important to look at the future stars, not just old guards.
938  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: August 11, 2023, 02:55:13 PM
BCB are also following BCCI's footstep in handing out captaincy, they are even doing better than the latter.

BCCI playing musical chairs in every bilateral series, choosing new captains and resting everyone else. BCB on the other hand playing on a different level where PM is getting involved every now n then.

Shakib might be a good option atm but why not look for a young skipper for the future?

With BCCI, it is understandable. They are facing an oversupply of talent. There are too many players who deserve an international cap, but the BCCI don't have enough matches available to give opportunities to all of them. I think this is one of the reasons why finally the BCCI agreed to send a team to Asian Games cricket tournament (after refusing to do so in 2010 and 2014). Anyway, a few important tournaments are coming up, including the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup. Hopefully the BCCI will be able to settle their selection woes before that.
Different team and captain for Windies.
Different team and captain for Ireland.
Different team and captain for Asian Games.
Mixed team and different captain for the Asia Cup.

Giving opportunities is a fair argument but in the big tournaments, it creates more problems than solutions because they go back to usual stuff and everything looks like a waste of talent and resources.

Shubman Gill was making his best in the short period,if he continue the same game for couple of months.Surely he will get his permanent position in Indian team.Because India team currently need of opener like Sachin and Sehwag position. The Indian team tried with Dhawan in the few years back, but he doesn't get good partner and due to misunderstanding with the team Dhawan was not survived in the India team.Since the World Cup was in this year.Gill will have good option to take part in the squad of Indian team for this World Cup 2023.

As of now, there is too much competition for the top-order spots. Only Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are considered as regulars. Everyone else, including Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Suryakumar Yadav are competing for the remaining spots. Anyway, the Asia Cup tournament is coming up in less than three weeks from now, and the performances by different players during this tournament will have an implication in the selection of playing XI for the world cup. India will be playing their first match on 2nd September.
KL Rahul might not feature in T-20 setup anytime soon. He fucked up as an opener plenty of times, even if he does (which is unlikely) it won't be an easy task for him.

In ODI too he missed the bus as far as the opener slot is concerned, nowadays he's considered only middle order batter + Keeper and his record is nice in this slot.
