OT:
So, imagine it's the first clear sky at night after almost three cloudy months, you're a passionate astrophotographer and got hold of a 1500mm SC telescope you wanted to test and adjust for several weeks now, but the moon is half full and the large aperture value of the telescope craves for dark skies to achieve good results. What would you do?
* OutOfMemory looks at the moon, takes out his trusty, old DSLR... But in that particular night the moon was looking slightly unfamiliar, in a familiar way:

This telescope type features a dual mirror design, there is some significant chromatic abberation and drop of sharpness near the border. I then tried to get better results by using the coma corrector i use with my newtonian telescope and the result wasn't so bad. A dedicated reducer/flattener for this type of dual mirror scope would trim down the magnification by a third, resulting in 1000mm focal length, but it would make the scope much easier to use with deep space objects, for example dim galaxies.

Today is premature DCA day  Cool
Decided to pull this one ahead for a few days.

OT:
Now proud co-owner of two horses since five days  Cool It's pretty relaxing to just watch them doing their thing.
I also finally had clear night skies yesterday, so i mounted my latest addition, a 1500mm Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope for a first light test. The results were pretty surprising, despite the bright moonlight. Quite a hassle to repair the display of the cheap hand controller of the tracking mount at dusk light. Will post a pic later on, maybe i'll include a funny edit - surpise, perhaps?

HODL on, dudes!

Breaking: The EU voted for reporting crypto transfers over 1000 Euro. Private wallets not affected, only hosted wallets and broking services. As soon as the regulative rule will be formulated, it will be in effect 20 days after.
No english sources (yet).

EDIT: Done watching The Last Of Us yesterday. It was totally worth it, thanks for the tip (to the WO i didn't remember).

This is part of their "Markets in Crypto-assets" (MiCA) legislative initiatives and the application of the so-called “travel rule” within it. The authorities really want to take control of the uncontrollable. Since they cannot control bitcoin itself, they try to control who uses bitcoin.

Transfer for 999 Euro goes br br br.

done the law done the snare.

And who will determine how many of these euros are in one bitcoin? We know that 1BTC = 1BTC, but how much will they calculate?

At the time of initiating the transaction, of course.
My monthly DCA is lower, so no need to change anything, but these holdings are taxable at payout since last year. Most of my holdings are still tax-free, unless the law gets changed again, like they did three times already.

Is there any official statement from Theymos yet?

Yes, there was.

I think that what it is is that imgur added a new very restrictive per-IP limit on image downloads. So all ip.bitcointalk.org requests are blocked, but even many Tor exit nodes are being blocked, for example.

I'm not going to attempt to play some cat-and-mouse game with imgur, so people will just have to use a different service such as TalkImg.

+1 WOsMerit

Thanks.
He's absolutely right on the cat/mouse aspect, regarding it's not a mistake to limit requests from bitcointalk to imgur.
426  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 17, 2023, 05:35:07 AM
Maybe imgur blacklisted Bitcointalk because of ChartBuddy, wouldn't be surprised, lol.

I did wonder that. But lots of other people use imgur across many threads and the proxy keeps the number of requests down.

The bigger issue is likely because the proxy aggregates a *lot* of requests as being from the same address. Although it actually reduces the data requested from imgur, it looks like bad behavior.

Is there any official statement from Theymos yet?
Will the issue even be investigated?
I hope it wasn't CB to piss off imgur and block ip.bitcointalk.org Wink

That has to be a CB record.
6 in a row.

I think we already had six or even seven in recent months. I was calling the beginning of the bull cycle if CB having five in a row, which was pretty early this year (and occured several times already). One of these events IIRC had one or twe more.

A few days ago I placed an order to purchase 2 physical BTC coins online. Today I got these coins in my hand and I really like to see the bitcoins. This is the first time in my life I have seen physical bitcoins for which the love for bitcoins has blossomed from the heart. My long time wish was to see BTC coins in reality, today that long time wish has been fulfilled. I have deep hope and love for Bitcoin.

There is no such thing as physical BTC. Enjoy your toy coins.

Not exactly. If you print the seed words of an address holding one bitcoin, it would be (like) a physical bitcoin. TBH

What about the US government selling BTC.

https://twitter.com/WhaleWire/status/1656353977821196288

I have one strange question about this, taking out the actual cojuncture.

If US goverment sell BTC who buy it?, the people? if this yes, so the BTCs returns to the communitty and with that the "power" so.... if the government its really against the BTC its not better for them to confiscate them and never sell? and dont show you like another player in the game?

I know a lot of you can say to me, but its not the federal goverment its the justice selling to pay X creditors in some bankrupcy. And that can be ok, but we cant know.

EDIT: seems like its fake, but still intereseting the question i wrote.

The cost of operations to "seize" these coins, the damage to the tax system... all this and more wants to be accounted.

You know you made it when current Bitcoin fees do not bother you because you are hodling. But it is hurts to see the ordinal scammers smearing Bitcoin's name with their Bullshit-Rort-Con 20 tokens.

Well, at least the miners are making decent profits off the idiots who actually fall for the BRC20 scam. Enjoy it while it lasts (Protip: it wont).

I don't think the miners are happy with the situation. No one in their right mind would bite the hand that feeds. A blow to the image of bitcoin will subsequently hit the miners. Fans of NFTs and other tokens will see that the network is overloaded and has become too expensive, and will go somewhere else (I really hope so). And miners need real bitcoin, just like the rest of us.

one day there will be sidechains / second layers for all this stuff to run on Bitcoin, if we like it or not.  mEth and all these other projects will die.

Bitcoin will be the settlement layer for everything - even scams.  Fees will go into the thousands of USD.  One single onchain transaction will settle millions of offchain transactions.

these BRC20/ordinals are just the beginning of what's going to happen within the next decade(s).  We can already see them push exchanges like BChinance to implement Lightning.

only my2cts

For my part, i never even liked the idea of Ordinals. It's complete shit, with more than just doubtful use, imo.
Scalability is also one of the main challenges in Bitcoin's design, which should have been addressed first.
Sure, the road to success is bumpy sometimes, but i would really like to know Satoshis opinion on that shit.

it's up to the market to decide.
Bitcoin is the most secure database humanity has invented, and the market participants will outbid each other for being able to use it.

Right now only a bunch of freaks are using it. But wait until mainstream catches up. We have seen nothing yet... (compare it to the internet)

You know, i'm bullish on Bitcoin's future too, but ordinals (NFT)... i mean, c'mon  Roll Eyes
It's up to the market to decide? The "market" is a mix of participants, like a society is a mix of individuals. Like noise is consisting of many sinus waves of different frequencies. You know the whitepaper. I think ordinals are way beyond scope of an electronic p2p cash system. Why should Bitcoin do things which other shitcoins already do? Don't get me wrong, i don't mean that everything shitcoins do is bad, but ordinals don't do much to advance BTC in its role as said electronic cash/asset.

----------
Sometimes your time can be over before you really know it:

Yesterday my wife almost passed out, swimming in cold water.
She had dinner, went to the Sauna right after, stayed too long and went swimming afterwards, when she felt already dizzy.
After a couple of minutes she felt something isn't right, she barely reached the water's edge when everything got dark around her.
Luckily she was with a friend.

She is still a bit exhausted and very sensitive to warmth, while having unusual cold feet. I had this condition a few times already.
The Sauna was only 80°c, while i am used to 90°-110° Saunas (when you think your skin is burning and you almost can't breathe without a towel), but this is only for the disciplined. She asked me to take her with me a couple of times, but i said she doesn't know what she will be facing.
As of today there will be no more arguing, she has definitely learned her lesson. I am just very glad that she was lucky.

Life and surprises
These two are bound together
Like wifey and me

Star Wars sucks.

Proud to say I have not watched any Disney plus Star Wars crap.

Same here, although I like the first 6 movies, I feel like everything they made after that was capitalizing on the culture with toys, legos, and throwing bad scripts and screenplay at people, hoping they'll want to introduce their children to the saga they watched as kids in the 80s and 90s. On the other hand, these Disney people know how to make money because kids don't want to see actors anymore. All they want is CGI and dolby atmos, which is why Marvel is making so much money with the crap they're making.

Absolutely true. Part 1 (Movie 4) was more for the younger audience, though. But on the other hand, the old Ewoks movie was similar, and it wasn't bad either.
Marvel is pushing a little too far, imo. I like to be surprised by a movie, but they fail to do so, at least their multiverse approach is something new.

Proud to say I have not watched any Disney plus Star Wars crap.

I'm also fucking annoyed by the introduction of light sabres (and the odd, black laser assault rifle) in the latest update to Fortnite, which i am playing with my older sons a few times a week or so, as a PUBG regular. This shit sucks ass! Star Wars seems to be everywhere, lately  Roll Eyes

My DCA buy, originally scheduled for monday, got delayed for tuesday, when it slipped into the little $28k dip. Nice.

Hm?

Don't you gots ur lil selfie a lots of cornz by now?

By the way, I will admit that in some sense, I can relate to what you are describing, especially since sometimes, I will create tokenly small orders, just for funzies, and I will get a wee bit worked up regarding whether and/or how such order(s) fill.. and whether there was a lot of good/bad luck involved in the way that BTC prices ended up moving, even though in the whole scheme of things, the order(s) hardly even affected my "stack" in any kind of significant or meaningful way.

Lucky you  Grin
I still keep adding, even small amounts, and i probably won't stop. I don't have a reason to stop. In the end, most of the stack is desinted to be a heritage for my kids.

Apart from kids being your kin, how do you know now (assuming that your kids are still very young) that they are or will be worthy of such inheritance?
Actually, a serious question and I have been grappling with this one for a while.
Alternatives: extended family (if worthy), charities of your choosing, etc, etc.

You might be surprised, but i don't care that much. The good point is that it can be evenly divided and easily distributed.

They are your kids. Do you have children?

The more pertinent question is whether it will actually advantage them and whether they are equipped to handle it.

I'm fine with any serious question  Smiley
I am teaching them already. In small doses.

EDIT: After reading Biodom's response to Richy: I won't let them know that i have Bitcoin destined for them. Only one knows that i own some, and he doesn't know how many. If i die before they are all adult, my wife will split the stack and manage when they should receive their seedword lists, each with a hand written advice from me.
There are also special events, for example one of the kids wanted to start a business or move to a different place of the world, we would hand out the seed word list(s) for good will. There's more to life than money  Cool

Funny, i just wanted to point that out too, but i was refreshing the page first.
Bitcoin could well be the winner it was destined for, in face of a crisis like this.
