If Bitcoin does not see a recovery to at least $25,000 this year I will eat my fucking hat. The new year looks promising at least but proudhon has got rather excited that his nit picked chart shows bitcoin back in decline...

Dude, you're wearing a hat while making love?  Shocked Cool

holy crap

my short isnt looking so good  Undecided
There is no chance this holds.
so i should double down then.

good plan

A little less cocky about the guaranteed "down before up," no?  We've heard that "down before up" one a million-ish times in these parts, and it is guaranteed, until it is not... which can be an issue... and sometimes contributes towards everlasting psychological damage to those who continue to tell us that it is going back down..  Jonoiv is not the only cocky-ass disappeared member with that issue.  I think that he is still waiting for sub-$2k because he was too greedy and too smart to buy back in when the price went to sub $4k in March 2020.

that will never happen to me.

i did double down btw  Cool

Mindset like yours cannot be helped! Good luck with your shorting/daytrading...

The price will go down once you get liquidated and it will make you feel like you were so almost there! it's like a drug, you will try again and again until you are left with nothing!

This is like you learn to play poker.
First stage, you lose all your chips in the many ways of this game.
Then you either quit, or you actually keep learning the few ways how to build and hodl your stack.

Some even get caught in the slot machine alley before they can even see the tables, though  Cheesy

Are tehy calling Hal Finney a Faketoshi?

This is pathetic... he never claimed to be Satoshi.

Wow. Absolutely no respect for the dead. I bet they did not even research this man.

They needed to make a list for their shit article so they decided to pad the story with some home-made BS. If they made a real list the only name on it would be Craig Wright.

Yeah, and that indian guy from the UK who gave an "interview" a few years ago (just to promote his upcoming "better bitcoin" in the end).
this guy

$BTC going up a bit, OOM happy because his monthly DCA plan started in early January Grin

Interesting...I can think of other uses... (oh jeezus... I'm watching too much porn...)

Hah, I wanted one to use as a bed like in a movie I saw as a kid when I was young, think is was a Rutger Hauer flick Bounty hunter or some such thing.

I did bang a chick on her dads pool table when I was a kid and still have the scars on my knees, I don't recommend it.

*Left with her frantically trying to scrubbing off the smooge

I have a buddy that broke his dads pool table banging a one night stand.

Wait... Which weight class are we speaking about here?  Cheesy

EDIT: 5 CB Posts in a row. Bullrun can start, hoooray! or not, like last time...

A green colored comet is coming in 2023 (last time it was here was 50thou years ago).
It portends well, I would think   Grin
On Feb 1 it would be closest to earth....

Thanks, noted for my watchlist. I will start researching and maybe have a chance to capture this little spacefrog.  Cool

@Bob,
For anything it may still be worth, I want to publicly apologize for being incredibly insensitive towards you years ago. I was emotional and reacted with some comments I deeply regret.  I'd like you to know that I'm sorry to have judged and labeled you. I used sensitive information you confided in us and weaponized it in my haste.  I see how hurtful this was. It still hangs on me and I think about it more often than I'd like to admit.  Rather than continue to personally carry this into the future I'd much prefer owning it and working towards a sense of peace.
You are valuable and have mattered to all of us here. Wishing you and Rick all the best into the future!

Sincerely,
Icy

That's the spirit. Right there.

Dude, you really need to go get laid or something.

There's the spirit, again  Grin

Guys for the love of Bitcoin, stop meriting the merit farmers and stop replying to the trolls. If we keep fueling their toxic posting motivation, they will come back in larger numbers.

Trolls become scrolls. Ignore button is a convenient scrollwheel-saver, isn't it?

But there needs to be an error margin:  will say it's very important to make mistakes, because they are essential for development (as a motivator to learn and to change behavior).

I disagree. It's pretty counterintelligent to allow forseeable mistakes. Still, "we" do this more often than not.

In general that's likely. But I would be very careful not to make absolute assertions. Again, making mistakes (even knowingly) can lead to very positive outcomes or very important learning motivations.

And when I say knowingly... sometimes we just think we "know" something is a foreseeable mistake, but we might just be wrong about it and in reality it's no mistake.

Just an example:
many years ago I was 100% sure that not selling my Bitcoin after making the first 5x or 10x was absolutely a mistake.
Today I think it was one of the best decisions in my life.  Where would I be now without making that "mistake"...

I would say making mistakes (even knowingly) from time to time might be part of a kind of natural intelligence, or maybe you could call irrational or non linear intelligence of natural evolution. Like a mutation that brings novelty in the world of living beings.

Glad that i have read this before shutting the computer down.

If you think it was the best decision of your life, it's not a mistake.
Your only mistake was thinking it was a mistake (for some years).
A bigger mistake would have been to sell in doubt at a later time, imo.

570  Other / Serious discussion / Re: How do you create good habits and break bad ones, what actually works? on: January 05, 2023, 11:19:34 PM
Bad habits are things we usually don't question.

At the point we evalute and assess them, we come to the conclusion that they are useless and limiting.
Shed a light on the downsides of bad habits, remember yourself often, preferably every time you think about them or you are drawn towards them.
You also almost always need to define alternative actions, in which you visualize yourself carrying them out instead of using your "bad habits", every time you think about one of them, at best.

It's said that when you do something for around 21 days straight, you're likely to make it as a habit. So, that's likely to make you form the good habits by doing it repeatedly and the same goes for the bad habits that you want to eliminate.
Just keep on doing it and they'll be formed in whichever side you want them to be. But of course, it's still going to depend on how you endure the process, it won't be easy but it's worth it.

I think i read something about how long brain cells need to "travel" from the brain stem to the outer, grey matter area, which is about four weeks.
After two weeks, some other significant milestone is reached. Don't remember details, but researchers were assuming that it takes two weeks of practice to get used to some behavioural practice, another two weeks to automate it.
This also matched my own experiences.

My perception is definitely things went down after the start of the pandemic, not only referring to this thread.

Most definitely covid had something to do with it. The pandemic caused a lot of conspiracy-prone inhabitants of this thread to fly totally off the chain, never to return to a state of mental balance...

sadly... many of the conspiracies became reality and we are not through that yet.
So who is to blame...

Not only conspiracies, there was a social shockwave going around the planet.
(i should not sound too dramatic, though)
This crisis has put our nerves and viewpoints to the test, not to mention the numerous facepalm events, that still make me feel like they left a slight groove on my forehead...
A good outlook how much we would fail in face of a real crisis of bigger magnitudes, and they definitely are already building up slowly.
Not to sound too negative, but humanity is very far from being able to "control" anything on this planet. Pretty risky for a "we shall address this later, let's just keep calm and continue observing". From an tech enthusiast's view like me, it's like looking at a historically overgrown piece of proprietary software, which every programmer is afraid to touch in fear of breaking things.

Imaginary developer: "Let's just let this thing run, it always worked in the past, so it will probably work forever. The smoke coming out of the vents should be nothing to worry about, right?"

Humans had always have to deal with crises and were never in control.  It's always been that way.
So far... we have come very far.  We were dying in our 30s not long time ago. Humanity is a huge success story in terms of development, if you ask me.

And if humanity doesn't make it, so bei it.  I'm sure we are not the only life in the universe.

Like you said, it's all very complex.  And we sure know that central planning is not the way to go in society.  We all are the "programmers" you mention but not one of us has the perfect plan.  It's a process taking thousands of years. I'm not even sure that you or I could even evaluate that realistically within our 100 years lifetime....

... we can just individually rely on our intellect, intuition and feelings and guess what is best... we are just a kind of animal moving around and not the designer of it all  ...that would be nature or how you wanna call it

I think you mean what i would call "mankind". By "humanity" i was meaning our emotional, emphatic nature of our being. "humaneness" would be a synonym.
All other things you said are right, though.
The central problem here, i  guess, is that we are capable of thinking ahead, evaluating consequences of our planned actions, but we don't really do this, nor we know how to do this. Mankind, i mean...

Tired of being sad, and this place doesn't help.
Imo, a small group of people here do help, though.
That's what kept me here, actually.
But for me, learning to deal with toxicity in a constructive way was THE secondary most beneficial experience around here.
Not engaging with trolls is a simple way to keep focused at the funny side of WO, but it got way more grumpy and stupid here in the last few years, while highly valued contributors left the ship. This is a shitty but steady development.

I doubt that matters have gone down hill in the wall observer thread in the past few years.  There may well be a need to work on your perceptions... but hey, you are free to believe what you like and to conclude what you like.

My perception is definitely things went down after the start of the pandemic, not only referring to this thread.
But i'm used to having (sometimes very)  different perceptions than most other people around me, and i learned to accept others. Not that i expect others to accept mine, just saying.

Quote
In other words, there have always been contributors of good and bad contents.  Should theymos stop this thread because it is not sufficiently valuable anymore?

That would be way too egoistic to demand, imo.

Quote
Nevertheless, attacking WO bro's is toxic behavior it needs to stop.

I doubt that any of us should be expecting people to be nice when participating in the interwebs, including but not limited to this thread.

Altruism is like a curse, sometimes.

Having s*x on a regular basis helps keep your memory alive.

Gotta start a serious talk with my wife, then  Cheesy

Had sex on un regular basis last night....  had a finish shot at 17h ish.... then eat - party went at her place and did a 2 shot followed by a 3th wich one failed, little drunk, so I already impressed her with the 2 shotter....  @early 10.30 morning a 4th shot was released by the kraken...

Coincidence?
Mrs. OOM went over me last night as well, there might have been some special energy in the air, around the globe, last night?  Wink

To be young again. Smiley

Some (dudes) never grow old  Cool

Finally saw Avatar 2: The Way of Water.

Pretty great.  Cool

Top Gun Maverick is still probably my favourite movie of 2022, but this came very, very close.

Super enjoyable.

Gotta check these out, soon. TopGun 2 is already on my HDD, has to wait a bit though, because "Chappie", which i missed is on the watchlist first, and currently i just started "The White Lotus", E01 seemed not to be too bad.

Usual game for the first day of the year.
Pretty easy if you are a member of this thread and you remember my past posts.

What I am looking at?
Where am I?

Shit, got no time, but i can remember. I won't give out a hint, though (or should i?)

Keep up the good vibes, cuz...

The less negativity you feed, the less negativity you have to swallow.
I don't know shit about the meaning of life, i only know that it's the most precious thing in this cold, infinite universe, possibly multiverse.

Anyway. Once I'm all set, I'll start a new node and open a new channel to my fellow WO LN-operators (you guys know who you are)

FWIW, probably noticed my node is down as well.

I had a crisis of confidence with Umbrel, and decided it was better to claw everything back into my "play" wallet.

TOR is a fucking disaster for LN, IMO. The performance is just shit vs clearnet.

Not sure how to resolve this moving forward, but it's doubtful I'll be running an LN node off our clearnet home IP at some point in the future, and even less of a chance I spin up a node on a VPS provider.

I tried.

Took a 400k sat loss after all was said and done.

Learned a lot - like I should probably not involve myself with lightning for at least another halvening.

You helped me a lot to decide that i will not get my hands on LN in the near future.
I'm more busy with real life lately, but i have read about the shit that's going on to happen around the farm project.
I can only reccomend to go more often to the inside of you. Too much messy stuff for too long will grind you up sooner or later.
Reserve a little time to live a simple, relaxed life, if possible. What do youreally  need to just feel good? Yourself and your loved ones inside a space of "timelessness".
Afair, you wrote that the locals started to try finding ways to help you out, regarding the elevated driveway mess? This is great, even more if it will succeed  Smiley

SBF granted bail just before Christmas. These two tweets sum up the case.

The security surrounding that house must be insane.

Can you imagine all the black ops teams that have likely been hired to take the guy out?
