I agree that the Tether fud is, in general, fairly silly.

But I do want to say.. I am also not entirely comfortable with some of the trends I see happening with Tether.

There are lot's of two faced "Bitcoin Maxis" not only cozying up with Tether, but are actually using it via Ethereum at the same time of lambasting Vitalic and all the people on twatter with x.eth after their name.

I see a lot of nuance here.  For example, I think I like the idea of using Blockstream's tether on their sidechain more than Eth for structural/scaling reasons.  But I am still somewhat bothered by the tension between using Tether in place of Bitcoin...  by so many people who have preached the "BITCOIN ONLY" gospel from the beginning.

....

But something just seems wrong about these idealists embracing Tether.

It bugs me.  But I have not worked through all of it yet, I guess...

I can't say I know that much about Tether, as I haven't had any interest in it to look into it too deeply.

Having a stablecoin pin its value on a fiat is already a laughably bad idea. But to back a so-called "stablecoin" without being able to prove that it's actually pegged to the fiat dollar, much less able to prove its pegged to anything at all really, nor to be able to verify who holds it or how much, if the collateral backing it (fiat) is there and accessible 1:1, seems actually far worse than backing digital fiat to me.

And beyond just making day trading easier, what purpose does it serve?

For me, BTC-USD is taxable, while BTC-USDT is not.
Keep an eye on national tax law  Wink

Yeah, I read about the vaccination mandate, that has to be illegal, I see several lawsuits in the European court of human rights in the future.

Talking about Omicron and animals, Hong Kong authorities have just killed several thousand hamsters after some hamsters imported from Holland tested positive for covid. I shit you not. The have also told people not to kiss their hamsters.

Going to hit the sack and read a little, stay safe!

The mandate has some details that just can't be justified by constitutional laws.
The politics don't care and push it through. It seems like they try to scare people into vaccination but will never be able to account for fines. The jurisdiction will gind to a halt with all the complaints that will be filed at court.
This is so lame but also typical of this dogshit little country. Sad, but say it ain't so...

I read about the hamsters earlier. China trapped itself.

Hi guys
I'm feeling better now.
I don't know if it was my arthritis acting up or if I had Omicron I had muscle and joint aches, headache, slept a lot and had nightly sweatings/hot/cold kind of thing. and that's symptoms that fit both. I also had my knee swelling up again so I had to go to the hospital and empty it and get a cortisone shot, that helped and I also got better over all after that. but in time that would coincide with when a covid infection would be over-ish.
I got bad on January first and didn't feel alright until three days ago.
Had no loss of smell though and no cough to speak of, just a little, so I don't know what I had, but I feel good now.
I will probably not bother to read the backlog, is there anything important I have missed?

Nice to read good news from you again, Arrie!
They didn't check for Covid at the hospital? Strange...
Did you try organic sulphur (MSM) combined with Vitamin C and Glucosamine?
It's pretty effective against swelling and pain in light to moderate cases, i also experienced stronger hair growth after taking MSM for a few weeks.
At start, you could get serious bloating and headache, unless you slowly ramp up the MSM dosage from 1/8g to 1g (double the initial dose every third day) and drink a lot of water. I mean 2-4 liters per day, your body will crave for it, believe me Smiley
Read it up. It's safe unless you don't go over 2g/day or more. Some do 6g daily for a short while and didn't have any problems.

The backlog: We're in the dip of the dip of the dip. I am mainly reading WO since Christmas, came to posting less because of more private reasons, less free time after all.

No, no checks at the hospital any more, I think they don't take it that seriously any more, they do make you wear a mask inside the hospital though, the only place I have been to that has a mask mandate.
They did tell me when we made small talk that many of their doctors and nurses were in self quarantine at home because of Omicron, a lot of them had had the earlier version of covid and were triple vaccinated.
So it seems omicron is spreading like wildfire to everyone regardless of earlier immunization.

And it looks like the parliament is about to take away the governments temporary right to impose restrictions, they want to prolong it for another four months, but the parliament has let it be known that they will only approve a two month prolonging.
And then I guess it's over, at least in Sweden.

I have tried Glucosamine only, but I can't say it had any noticeable effect. I do have an open prescription for Prednisolon (a cortisone) and I use it to suppress my inflammation if it gets really bad, it works very well but I have to use it sparsely, it is not good for your body in the long run.

FFP2 (N95) Masks worn correctly turned out to be the most effective against Omicron infection. I got quite a fan of carragene nasal sprays, which is an extract from algae, that in turn decreases the viral load and docking capability of sars2 viruses in upper respiraory tract tissues. It's replicating mainly in these tissues, not in the deeper lung tissue, unlike the preceding sars2 variants. So vaccines aren't building up early immune response antibodies and t-cells that are in/on these tissues, that's why the work poorly against infection (put simple).

We have full retard covid politics here at the moment, with vaccination mandates, signing off violation of parts of the EU-GDPR when you get vaccinated, to share all your health data with various national and political institutions, automatically processed, personal health data, that is.
I currently look at my motherland as a failing state, covid politics wise. I shoudl post an update to the COVID thread, soon.

Glucosamine (and Collagenes) has to be taken for a couple of weeks to start showing effects, when isolated, afair. There are also nutritional co-dependencies (vit C, afair).
Since glucosamine is chemically similar to fructose, i could not take it too long because of the side effects in my particular case. Generally it is quite well tolerated by everybody not having a problem with fructose (and co.)...

Cortisone depletes calcium quite agressively, you should always supplement that along with K2 and Vitamin-D, up to 200% RDA while taking moderate doses of cortisone.
I use it rarely and sparingly, when my bowel gives me hell every few years.

Been thinking a bit, now that European countries are starting to to give up and say "fuck it, Covid is just another flu infection from now on", how are countries like China and New Zealand going to cope with that?
Are they going to stay in self isolation for ever?
They have to accept reality at some point and let the virus in.

Not here. They want to let Omicron in WITH everybody and his dog getting vaccinated on top. They fucked up a few times now already, they fear nothing more than fucking up another time.

What goes up must come down though & the embarrassingly low cycle top further shows the diminishing returns bitcoin gives now. What will the next bull top be, maybe $80,000 in 2025? Most of you bitches will have panic sold when the price hits $10,000 within around 12 months.

I told you all the top was $69,000 ages ago. Long crypto winter now, massive drops to come. How many of you will sell, more than will admit it. Massive dumps are imminent over the next months.

$80,000 in 2025? You're joking, right? Bitcoin will never make it close to $80,000.

While $69k is closer to $80k than $10k ever was  Grin

I agree.

If anyone thinks he is a good guy close your eyes  and let me hit you in the throat with a tennis 🎾 ball.

This is a retarded remark, he hit that lady totally by accident, not a slightest trace of intent in that action. BTW, he is rare-to find humanitarian, and s deeply respected by his peers, tennis professionals, that he was elected representative of them in each forum he was a candidate (ATP council, PTPA). When you peers and colleagues think you are the best among them it means something, doesn't it?

In the last two years or so, it seems many people have changed quite a lot, and i'm not thinking about ND exclusively here.
IMHO, there was Novak vs. Australia in a medially reported standoff. This triggers stereotypical thinking, not the best ground for discussion.

19nt gene sequences found in CV-19, patented by Moderna in 2015.

Chances of natural occurrence in the virus: P=1 in 4*19, or roughly 1 in 274,877,906,944.

Interesting, but...
Did you double check?
Do you have a source?

Yeah if that was the bounce I am very disapointed, Was thinking we'd at least get to the 45k handle. and be there for longer than a day.

Oh well, on-chain fundamentals are still good and futures funding rates are saying a short squeeze is more likely on the cards now.

Wouldn't be suprised if it falls below sub $40k again.

I swear i tried selling 0.1 BTC just before the dip because of resons (SOMA) when i saw it struggling to move upwards, but i was on the road, then put my daughter to sleep and the next thing i saw was the big red one on my notebook Angry
So no +0.01 BTC for me  Roll Eyes (this time).
I was hating life for a short moment, i admit it.

Let's resume:

1. vaccines work, but not good at stopping the pandemic.
MSM's "vaccines are the way out of this pandemic" bubble just popped by Omicron.

2. vaccines can't be distributed as needed, worldwide.
Guarantee for globally spreading variants, forever.

3. Almost all people dying or needing ICU treatment are old or not healthy.

4. Masks and distancing is about as effective as vaccination, if done RIGHT.

5. Most Long Covid patients have virus rna in their urine.

6. Nobody knows what will happen to the immune system about many subsequent jabs, some months apart.

All of which leads to:

Protect the weak and sick, use vaccines for the endangered and likely endangered folks, leave the rest alone and make politics invest in their (our) healthcare system(s).

It's just that if you take part in a new game, you want to learn the rules to work out how to win, right? What the world tries to do is changing the game with global, unidimensional measures. China can't lock down the virus forever.
Ask you sane mind: How likely is this to actually work out?

OT: Aside of Covid, China isn't appearing as often in the news since quite some time, makes me feel a bit uncomfortable.

Time and again proven to work

You know the saying; smoking a joint a day will keep the doctor away.

Not that i smoke weed but cannabis oil has been used for centuries, it was -and still is- a very popular medicine to all kinds of conditions.

Cannabis pollen is found on the mummy of Ramesses II and even jezus himself used anointing oil made from the plant. In fact this plant was one the most important healing plants out there all over the world.

It was the pharma industry who where against it but the plant is making a comeback.

AFAIK it was mislead politics to blame.
But yes, in the recent discussion, big pharma plays a role in trying to discredit naturally produced/processed marihuana as drugs, while they are lobbying for "much safer" synthetic cannabinoids, for which they own patents on the production process or resulting products.
I personally don't care too much. I consume, almost daily, at night, in the form of vapor, sweets or dissolved in alcoholic beverages (gin), it didn't do any harm to me (afaik), i don't even experience any withdrawal like sensations since i consume it in pure forms, without tobacco. Smoked with tobacco it was getting me somewhat addicted, while i was decreasingly enjoying it over the years, because i was always a bit over-sensitive to many psychoactive substances. It's like what i imagine heroin to feel like. Had consumed opium through friends a few times when i was younger, which also felt to me much like smoking fat joints or big bhongs, just much more boring (for lack of a better term).
It's a spiritual drug, imho, less suited for the fun-generation. It should be looked at without bias, then it turns out to be a really nice substance.

By the time, i know more than ten cases of heart conditions of vaccinated people in the range of 40-70 years of age.
Last case yesterday, the uncle of my wife, no preconditions.
Stay away from me with that shit!

i have a (pre existing) heart condition so i get ekgs and ultrasounds of my heart done more or less regularly. no change at all to my heart from tests before 2 pfizer shots to about 4 months after the 2nd. none.

of course my sample size of one isnt much, but since im the actual data point i can verify my sample size od one with a high degree of accuracy accuracy i think. as i dont use the "i know of people" data set as a rule (no offense to OOM)

No worries, i don't feel offended at all and it takes a lot to make me feel as such  Smiley
I also know a handful of cases with preconditions regarding blood/heart who had no problems whatsoever after getting their shots.
Just my personal decision not to take a jab, also because of my chronic fatigue history, which is already known to likely get one into a relapse after vaccination.
If i'd suffer a relapse after Covid (Long Covid, then), i can be sure to have done the best i could to avoid getting infected. If i'd get chronic fatigue again from a shot, i'd feel more stupid than smart, in my particular case. I got close to Covid infections a few times now, but the intentional masks, distancing precautions and regular use of carrageen nasal spray seemingly did work well. Not sure if i can escape from Omicron as efficiently, but YOLO...

As for awkward ministers of health... In a german speaking country, the MOH is a smoker and recently was caught on video, taking off his mask for coughing into his bare hand while attending a governmental conference. I wish postings regarding the matter would stay in the Covid-WO-thread.

covid quote omitted

Still, "modern way of life" turns out to be more deadly than a coronavirus pandemic...
If governments were as actively about changing that, Covid fatality scores would be lower, too.
One gotta see the whole picture, as far as possible.
