Hash rate has returned to earth, looks like it started dropping for the weekend.  Interesting to see if it is restored Monday morning.

Either institutional buying is greatly exaggerated, or someone is selling a ton. Pick your poison, time should tell as one is much more sustainable than the other.

They bought. They are not so dumb to shill Bitcoin and then start buying., They bought and finished. Now are shilling. When price will increase will dump. and keep a long ago decided %  of their portfolio.  Those people that thinks they bought those BTC and will keep them forever after are ....   They bought Bitcoin as a hedge. This % of their portfolio and will keep it that way.

My take is that they would lean toward allowing the % to increase.  Some portfolio balancing as they go along, for sure, but the stated point (not nesecarily the actual point) was to get OUT of dollars.  Not sure what else to dump it into once it starts doubling and doubling and doubling again.

OT: an Altcoin rant...

Some poop, called Filecoin, is trading (FIL, first day) at $70, which with 2bil max coins means a projected market cap of 140bil.
Color me skeptical. Decentralized storage? Who gives a flying f-k?

Storage coins again? What next, a rehash of all those dumb marijuana coins?

Some feather coin for your feather wallet.

I think we are in the same phase as in February/March 2016 so you should consider selling some of your stock (10-50%) and wait two months, then you should by back at 30-50% plus

The block reward is currently 987 XMR per day.  That is getting close to stock to flow ratio of Gold. But it will go below that in the next year.

Seems like last week it was about half of that...  Per hour  Cheesy  My first try at mining.  Ya I guess it was a while ago, but the stark contrast backs up my earlier point on emission rate.

453  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 13, 2020, 10:28:41 AM
I still have nightmares of huge bags being dumped on the market over and over again.

Do you think that new supply is finally restricted enough? Is the majority of Monero now held by stronger hands? How many people bought between $140 and $500 and just want to break even?

97% of the 18 million Monero has been mined compared to Bitcoin which is at 88% of 21 million.

Will this start to make an impact?

Or are there still whales and miners waiting in the wings looking to get rid of their bags?

It is the opinion of the seat of my pants, that the tide has definitely turned.  Miners can have only a tiny fraction of the control exhibited in the past.  Sure, they can sell their bags, but only once; there is no more easy resupply.  The whales accumulating for years have done so on purpose, and it would be in their own interest to reset the price higher by withholding, not flooding the market.  I imagine they will want to shake the tree pretty hard along the way, but it doesn't appear to be yielding much at this level.

454  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 13, 2020, 04:36:00 AM

50k BTC to me seems inevitable before summer, IMO.

If that is you belief? do you see Monero rising with the wave against btc? or a decrease in ratio but still an net increase in monero price in bitcoin?

Compound growth overall, but expect massive volatility, so it might look very different from week to week.  Sometimes, I'm even correct!

add:

Remember when the price was low, like under a buck (2014, 2015, into 2016 IIRC)and wouldn't rise for anything?  There was such a wash of new coins, and such a small market pretty much just Poloniex, and a couple others that came and went (with the coins Tongue).  Just look at the size of the market now, and note the drastic and continuing squeeze on supply of fresh coins.  Transaction count is up, transactoin fees are down, development seems never to slacken, and its just time.

456  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 12, 2020, 08:49:23 PM
XMR's USD peak was around the 500 USD mark when Bitcoin last mooned.

Back then, let's say that was roughly a 40th (or 2/5%) of the Bitcoin price.   If this run 'season' plays out then a 50K BTC is far from difficult to imagine be end of 2021.

Monero making it to a four figure dollar sum is not outside the realms of possibility.

I certainly think an ATH is likely.   2 x ATH - why not?

Definitely over 500.  I can't remember an exact peak, because it varied wildly between exchanges, but I did buy 4x Ledger Nano X  for well under 1 XMR.  I thought that was in the range of 6XX, peaking over 700, but that might have been CAD?  It was running about 80c USD at that time.  Well probably high US$5XX then, so never mind me  Tongue'

I'm  Expecting 1000-2000 USD.  Just call me a bull.  Nobody here will be shocked  Grin

Yep, I see 1000$ XMR entirely possible, certainly far, far more than a 50k BTC. I am, however, concerned about the fireworks from law enforcement, (from any and all countries) if XMR becomes widely used in DNM. Declaring it illegal altogether is, again, not outside the realms of possibility.

50k BTC to me seems inevitable before summer, IMO.
457  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 12, 2020, 07:24:21 PM
One year ago, XMR was $6.  A year before that, it was 40 cents. Today, XMR is $133.  One year from now, 1 XMR=$______

Three years later... $133.  So I was a bit ahead of myself, but we can try again.  One year from now, 1 XMR=$______

Actually we have ~5 weeks to go on that 3 years.  I expect $133 to be an historical footnote by that time.  Make It So!
458  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 12, 2020, 07:16:40 PM
Here's a little blast from the past:

what's the price going to be by dec. 31?

will we see $200?

Someone should make a thread where we guess exact prize.

I am quite certain price will go over USD ATH before the end of the year. If it will go beyond to $200 is also possible but that is not so sure thing anymore. If it will stay above $200 on Dec.31?  I would give 25% chance to that.

I doubt XMR will spend any time in the $200 range. The price will creep toward $150 before exploding all the way to $300, and then peak near $425 by mid December.

Going to effectively triple in price in the space of a month? Yeah I highly doubt that will happen.

Be pretty shocked if it hit $200 by end of 2017

It happens.  Pretty regularly, actually.  Most recently XMR tripled in a week, back in August.

"It's happened before so it WILL happen again!"

Infallible logic!

You can read it any way you like.  Maybe you should short...

To merely revisit a 3 year old high would be too sad.  Shattering it will be far more satisfying.

Next spot...  Previous support, as well as a psychological barrier.  Would not be surprised to bounce off this one considering the lowish volume... but man someone really did press the fast forward button:
