I think anyone who buys a pen worths thousands of dollars is a little bit mentally retarded.

Useful artwork is retarded?  Maybe you're  just poor.  I have 2 cigarette lighters that together are worth well over $10k.  I assure you that I am no where near mentally retarded.  Small scale Lambo's.  That's all.  I don't smoke.  Maybe I need a pen...
Or maybe hes just recognizes spending $10K on a pair of lighters or owning lighters worth that much is pretty fucking stupid. I dont care If someone bought BTC in 2010 and are worth 8 figures, respectable people dont go around calling people poor because they dont buy $3000 pens or $5000 lighters.

OK.  So buying BTC cheap and holding it is OK, but other things are bad, got ya.   I like nice things.  I really like nice things that appreciate in value.  I guess that's stupid.  My poor comment was a reference to perspective, not a slight on economic situation.  I've been poor.  I didn't like it much so I worked to change things.  Even when I was poor, my mind was open enough to understand different perspectives. Scale and perspective changes with economic situation.  Deal with it. Respectable people don't go around calling people stupid because they are not poor (and make good investments).

If you get a pen make sure you buy a few packs of 24 carat gold paperclips to staple your letters together with.

Too malleable.  I just use titanium ones.

From what I can deduce, zero wallets got hacked that were not user error/horrid opsec.  Just a FUD campaign and/or a few people with shitty luck and poor observation skills.  I'll believe otherwise when Ric says there is/was an actual problem.  Yes, I still use Mymonero sometimes, as I have since the beginning.  Zero issues.

I read a reddit thread where fluffy said he is taking the hacked accounts serious and that they may not be what I have highlighted in your post. I would link it but I can't search that place but from what I read it looks like he and a security firm are researching the reason while the site is locked. Or some such thing, as per usual my memory is not spot on.

Does anyone have that link? It really should have been posted here as well but...

OK I FOUND IT, This should have been posted by the DEVS here.

This is just to formally note that we're investigating the unusually high number of complaints of theft on MyMonero over the last week. The majority of the cases of theft on MyMonero are related to phishing sites or malware, but there was an uptick in reports and Reddit posts towards the end of last week.

It would be irresponsible of us to disregard these or write them off as FUD, and so we are actively investigating the situation, and will update everyone as soon as we're done. In order to ensure that we don't miss anything, we are working with the good folk at MWR InfoSecurity.

It would be greatly appreciated if people can be redirected to emailing support@mymonero.com instead of posting things up on Reddit, otherwise it's difficult to keep track of everything.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/7kmzkv/psa_regarding_recent_reports_of_mymonero_thefts/

I cannot find any updates though.

Of course they have to take it seriously.  There is no evidence yet, however, that the green + FUD is not the sum of it.  Like I said, I will wait for proof before denouncing a service that has worked flawlessly for me for years.

(snip....)

The underlying question, of course, is: How can smaller creatures - human, tunas, herrings and minnows - see it coming?

This is a huge, but probably unanswerable question.  But it is one that anyone smart is always hoping to find the answer to.

Markets are all about confidence and sentiment, so (sadly) there is no perfect answer, even though with hindsight patterns do repeat.  But patterns can always be seen in the past and look obvious - seeing them coming again is not so easy.  Like Elliot waves; it's always debatable 'which wave' we are in.

For long-term trend prediction (the big turning points), I think indicators of irrational bullishness /bearishness are as good an indicator of anything a crash, or rise is coming - but this is unmeasurable mathematically.

Short term - personally - I draw lines on charts endlessly, decide my favourite candle time scale and which MA to trade on and it usually 'helps' - but only enough to give me an edge.  And it's an edge that works only if you work hard and spend a LOT of time on it.

I did sell off 20% in Dec, which was as much as I dared to because it was enough to change my life significantly - and I didn't know what the tax situation in my country was likely to mean for what I took out (plus it was still going up!).   I felt strongly we would probably correct, and I remembered 2013, so I took 'some' out.  I advised members of my close family who had anything to do the same (they chose not to).

I will say this:

With trends (not short term trading), the only thing that has worked for me is two methodologies:

1.  Gut feeling  (along with mentally preparing to 'sell to too early, if it's enough money to make a difference')

2.  Listening to Tera.
Well, while you can't predict where in a given pattern we are at any given moment, you can use historical data to get a probability of certain patterns unfolding on different time scales. And to be profitable all it takes is to be right just over 50% of the time, which is something that isn't extremely difficult in inefficient markets. That does take a very specific toolset though, so it's not for everyone by default, although the required skills can be acquired by anyone. The problem is that figuring out the details takes a very long time, and humans are pretty dreadful when it comes to long-term planning.

I think what d_eddie was quite reasonably asking was 'what can we learn so that can we see the big stuff coming in future', since most here did not.

I use TA and in normal conditions I can trade with enough edge for it to work well enough to be worthwhile, after five years, I ought to have learned something - but I didn't know where the top was, and I am not totally certain BTC has bottomed out.  To be really good, you need to sell all at the precise top, and then buy it back at the absolute bottom.

I doubt anyone actually did.

Perfection is not possible, but getting closer to it is a noble and sensible quest.

Without investing tons of time, treat it like anything else: copy a pro, and fake it til you make it.  TERA is a pro.  Max gains is not realistic - selling too soon for GOOD gains flat out destroys panic selling on the way down, over the long term.  You might catch a top or a bottom just right here or there, but never enough to beat the average of always good.

I probably missed it, but I didn't see this coming.

Any idea/feedback about Monero-fork, MoveroV?
https://monerov.org/

Do they have ponies in their team?  I don't invest in altcoin projects with no ponies in them.  And it should be fluffy and a serious drinker of wine made from grapes picked by virgins under the light of a blue moon.

LOL! I'm also looking at who are the team members behind this fork.
If we cannot learn about them, then they're doing a great job on privacy. Wink

I thought the exact same thing as I looked at it this morning. At least tell me a little about who's forking it...
scammers... keeping 9 % or some shit for themselves from the get go.

I'm so looking forward to entering my Monero seed into the Monerov wallet. Wink

I expect they will also be harvesting your past transaction data.

They also broke the tail emission.  they can keep it.

XMR is altcoin is pretty good and the longer the price is also increasing, particularly suitable if used to invest in the long term.

I agree with you, XMR is a good altcoin.

But I’m concerned how laws than ban anonymous trading. For example the ones introduced in South Korea recently. Without anonymity what’s the difference between XMR and BTC?

Anonymous centralized commercial trading does not have anything to do with private peer to peer transactions.  They want their pound of flesh.  No more, no less.  Well, maybe more...

If everyone is using only XMR I would have no issues. But if the only way to change your XMR to BTC/fiat is peer to peer, I feel it’s would be very inconvenient.

Paypal is convenient (or so I've heard) if convenient is what is most important to you.  Another, more useful way to get XMR, is to sell goods or services for it.  That's what whoever you are sending it to is doing.  Cut out the middle man.  That is how you get everyone using only XMR.   If you won't go out of your way a little to use it, why would you expect anyone else to?  It starts with you.  Centralization is currently convenient, but losing ground to regulations.  Decentralized exchanges are not yet common, but will become more so, as centralized ones become less palatable.  Choices abound.  Join the revolution, or hide until it's over.  Do what you gotta do.

I think it goes something like this:

I like that, but look at me.....Dyson is out of my league.  Cry

There is something that I find quite perplexing. How come when the support on the order books is higher than the resistance, the price goes down much of the time. In the opposite situation, the price seems to rise. It seems counter intuitive. Anyone have an answer?

No point dumping into thin support...

Im considering buying monero.  However, what is the absolute highest price you guys think monero can hit?  Its already over 200 dollars.  Does anyone here think 2k or 5k is possible?  The fact that its a privacy coin and talked about alot should mean a lot right?

You ask this every day.  Are you expecting different answers?   OK, I'll bite.

In December it was over $500, and that's where all of the long time holders sold.  Monero will dwindle to $60 by June, and never get above that again.  Sell Sell Sell!

I was triggered until I saw who posted this.
Cheesy  Ya I got annoyed.   Afterwards I read some post history, and engaged the ignore button.

Volume to support this rally is anemic. It looks like we'll be heading down again. I suspect we'll be testing $6,000 again soon.

That's exactly why I reacted so strongly to egyptian magician's "wisdom." "Anemic volume."  Cheesy What's next? Is he going to pee on us and tell us it's raining?

I noticed he magically avoided mentioning the name of his old account with all of the wise posts...

I can't get monerujo to sync.  I've tried several nodes.   Only one node connects, and it has a problem.
I'm using a Pixel XL android 8.1
When trying to sync with node.xmrbackb.one, the wallet says -26,416 Blocks remaining.  That's a NEGATIVE number.
As a test, I tried connecting to node.xmrbackb.one with my laptop.  The wallet has been synced recently.
I got this:
Code:
[wallet xxxxxx]: status
Refreshed 1504024/1476640, syncing, daemon RPC v1.13
It seems node.xmrbackb.one is behind.  And it's the only node monerujo connects to.
Clearing the app cache doesn't help.
Is the problem on my end or is it with the node?
This is worse than trying to navigate Penn Station in a wheelchair.

Mine loaded, then synced ~1000 blocks to current in seconds.
