...so let me get this right.

The biggest claim with regards to monerov being a scam are that they are having people enter their private key in a closed source wallet?

Correct me if I'm wrong what what's the harm in waiting for an open source one?

Also, being given the option to sell/monetize personal transaction histories at will en masse seems like a major opportunity I would think?

Not that I'm recommending it, but you can attempt to claim your scamcoins with no risk to your own funds using a closed source wallet anyway. Just wait until snapshot date passes, transfer all XMR to new wallet, then import old private keys into closed source wallet that is on a different (unimportant) computer.

Also, unrelated, apparently halong had one too:
https://twitter.com/HalongMining/status/974189005712576512?s=19

You are still handing over your transaction history with those old keys.  No Thanks.

As to their 'unlimited supply' claim,  I think it will take more than a thousand years for XMR to overtake their 'fixed supply'.  I won't care as much by then.

I was excited about the Nano S, but becoming less so as I try to use it.  I thought when I set one up a couple months back that it was functional but a pain.  Now I can't make it connect at all, let alone every 5 or 6 tries like before.  Some say its the cord, but having tried 3 different ones (but not the one I eventually made work sporadically earlier) I can't even use the damn thing, and their support is shit.  /rant

The open source Monero hardware wallet can't arrive soon enough.

Ah yes there's another exciting thing.  The Monero H/W wallet project.  Also rumors of the Trezor getting it too...

Sorry to hear that you had problems with the ledger, Explorer. Mine works like a charm... I wonder what's up with yours... are you using Linux?  I use mine both on windows and arch linux. I don't think I've ever had a problem getting it to connect. But I did have to get the right libraries in drivers installed in arch. But once I did everything was working fine.

Originally set up on windows.  Typical message was plug it in and enter PIN.  Typical response was crickets.  Eventually If I kept trying it would recognize it and function (I set up 2 at that time, same issues)  Now I'm trying to use the Ledger chrome apps on Chromium with Linux, and can't get any device recognition at all.  Chromium gets the apps no problem.  Tried 4 USB ports, all check out with my phone, so they are good.  It's the Ledger Apps that don't seem to recognize it.  Frustration barely describes it.

Which Linux distro/version?  We can take this off thread if you are interested.

After rebooting it seems to recognize every time I plug it in now, which is about 5x better than I experienced with windows originally.  I  think I should just go back to stone tablet and chisel...

Meanwhile, WTF is happening to the price of Monero  Embarrassed

746  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: March 15, 2018, 01:50:22 AM
Where is announced the exact date of the March 2018 Monero update?

I did not find it from here.
https://getmonero.org/blog/
or anywhere else.

Also. If the date is not decided yet, it also has to be announced there. And it has to set on the site the way that also a retarded idiot can find it at once. Maybe I will succeed then. We need to have knowledge of updates, dates and other such Monero related relevant information on that site. We have to know. I have to know.

I do not want to be running all around to find the info I need to know by default.
I cannot imagine any fork or update before we will have normall wallet. Just my two cents...

Define 'normall wallet'?

this is just a very late night (and too many g+ts) post....as most of you know i stoped postin here after fluffypony's hilarious 'lets' crach the market post' some months back.

But seriously, can  someone please gime me a precis as to what the fuck is going on..forks/airdrops/etc?

XMR used to be the bes alt coin out thee,,,best etech, tech devs, best map,....this eens to heve gone to shit despite the fact it has been adopted by Dreamarket.

So, what the fuck is going on?Huh

I hve a LOT of capital tied up in XMR (basicLLY ceause Im a privacy nerd) but one thing I've realised in 5/6 yers of crypto is that the tech means nothng...its the polituiics behind the tech that a makes or brakes a project.

Opiions of oldies are most welcome, trolls please keep your council.

How nice it is to see you back. Along with the bulletproofs and the fork coin that's coming up (yuck) there is also the imminent release of the Ledger Nano (whew!) hardware wallet fro Monero. Also, work is ongoing for multisig... I think there possibly was a minor vulnerability found that is being patched hopefully. So I agree with anon that things are on the up and up development wise and as you mentioned real world acceptance is also increasing. It's a weird time post crypto run up.  The price contraction is awfully difficult to watch. That is also obviously part of the reason that the Monero price is decreasing. Also including against Bitcoin just because all alts are under scrutiny and shrinking a little bit right now.

I wish I was smart enough to be able to figure out where it's all going but instead I'm just gonna hold tight and watch the show.

I wonder...

Frequently when alts crash, XMR holds up better than most of the pack.  But today it is the opposite.  XMR seems to be losing more than usual.

I wonder if this might be somewhat influenced by the fact we could be following the pre-forkcoin selloff as the original date for the snapshot was today.

A certain percentage of people dumb enough to buy XMR to get the forkcoins would also be dumb enough not to have noticed they didn't get them yet and still sell off...

Just a thought.

I mean - maybe? That's some pretty dumb people though...

The world is primarily populated with them...

the WO thread is the one and only. every idiot can open a new thread these days. all other threads are altcoins/ICO´s. I just hope they will not fork it (with bigger letters) and insist that the forked WO is the "real WO" thread.

Thanks to infofront for taking it over - including responsibilities and having a moderation vision that seems to have allowed for it's continued quasi-wild, wild west style, and thanks to theymos in allowing a kind of democratic transfer of ownership that seems to have been a very fucking BIG success to the forum and for the bitcoin community.

Out of the real thing, sorry. I was keeping the last few precious like Ebenezer.

I've got a cool new alt, though.

+1 WoSMerit to JJG, wordy man in nonwordy disguise. You're much more effective and - I'll dare unusual adjectives - enjoyable to read when you dress up this way. Try it more often, if you manage. Please.  Tongue

+1 WoSMerit to infofront, for the thanklessest job there is. And done brilliantly, as if from far away.

I think JJG has been hacked...

Embracing ASICs would be a big FUCK YOU to everyone trying to distribute the network.  Seems to have worked well for bitcoin.  If you can't beat 'em, so be it.  But I expect at least an attempt.
754  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 13, 2018, 05:32:41 AM
Imagine if a similar proportion of the daily liquidity in usd was dumped into FX markets over a couple of months.  That would amount to roughly 700bn.  Nuclear winter? Perhaps literally so.

Just wait until all the people trading in traditional financial markets are kids who cut their teeth on crypto. What would have caused panic, mass hystaria, and accusations of russion infiltration today will instead cause yawns, shrugs and quiet resigned sips of coffee.

By the time all the kid who cut their teeth on crypto grow up - crypto will have subsumed the traditional markets.

Well it will be a hybrid. Traditional assets will migrate onto blockchain but there will still be securities, bonds, derivatives contracts and equities ect... Things that are more traditional that they aren't generally trading right now.

LOL

In a world where Jews are waging a genocidal war against whites, only the most genocidal of whites will survive.

Don't even engage that fucktard.  But at the very least, have some respect for the rest of us, and don't quote it   Wink

I don't give a shit if you are correct or not, but I do give a shit that you are making claims to know the future and that you believe that you are right about things... because perhaps you are smarter than everyone else?

I guess a sinking Bitcoin price brings out the best in us, huh?

been on ignore for more than 4 years, since his  third post here.  I see enough in requotes to keep it that way.  YMMV.
756  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 13, 2018, 04:08:57 AM
Blah blah keyboard diarrhea

If this were a science we could all be rich. I cant provide evidence for why the price will go up or down in the short run. That is an unreasonable standard. No one can do that. I am going to do my best to explain my position as clearly as possible. If that isn't good enough for you than you can just piss right the fuck off. Also let me be clear. I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. I'm just sharing my experience and my thought processes. If they fail to meet the expectations of your vastly superior intellect well then too damn bad. I do the best I can and I have done pretty well for myself so far.

Look at my post here from a few pages back.

It made a very solid looking bottom with very reasonable growth coming out of that bottom, a healthy and calm retracement down to about half of that run up then further upside that broke out past the last high. It's just what bitcoin charts have looked like to me when the bottom was in in the past. It looked like textbook - people are done freaking out so therefore we can resume the more general trend that is up. And ultimately I am a bull long term. So when ever people stop freaking out and cool their heads after a mania bitcoin tends to resume the general multi year bull trend.

Hopefully that passes your "logic" requirements. I was the most bullish I have ever been at the start of this month. In fact I was so bullish that I was actually saying yes to normies that asked me if they should buy bitcoin. I hadn't done that since pre 1000. I was partly so bullish because of the logical articulable reasons described above, but also partly because of intuition. I have been staring at these charts every day for 8 years. I have gotten to the point where it is pretty rare that I am wrong. If you want evidence for that, than too bad, I haven't put any public predictions on record that I know how to find because again, I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything.

The main reason I'm bearish is because I was the most bullish I have ever been on bitcoin in my life just a few days ago and this decline took me more off guard than any thing else ever has in this market. I have never been that wrong before. I was so wrong that I actually gave the normies that asked me for advice the wrong advice for the first time ever. So I adapted. I took some of my crypto portfolio into USD and but put in a stop to prevent me from being punished too hard.

If you can't respect that than I'm sorry. I just gave you everything I have. If you still want to accuse me of lacking logic or reason than we will just have to part ways and stop talking to each other. I don't want to do that though because you are a legendary and I respect that and we are on the same team.

Don't even engage that fucktard.  But at the very least, have some respect for the rest of us, and don't quote it   Wink

For those not keen to join the mayans, there are 575 large underground bunkers able to hold between 6,000 and 10,000 residents going for sale in South Dakota at just 25K$ each:

http://www.thedailysheeple.com/asteroids-wwiii-n-korea-military-bunkers-transformed-into-survivalist-homes-in-s-dakota-video_032018

There must have been a misprint.  I was under the impression that you could buy all of South Dakota for 25k.  Once they get internet, it will rise quickly, mind.

Hi;

Can anyone tell, how "Biakal Giant N" miner will affect this project?

Kind regards

It won't.  If it is real, it has probably already had it's effect.  Bricking it may have a further effect, time will tell.  Soon.

At the least, it has spurred to action the PoW alteration scheme that has been mumbled about for some time.  The next few weeks should will be interesting!
