what's the price going to be by dec. 31?
will we see $200?
Someone should make a thread where we guess exact prize. I am quite certain price will go over USD ATH before the end of the year. If it will go beyond to $200 is also possible but that is not so sure thing anymore. If it will stay above $200 on Dec.31? I would give 25% chance to that. I doubt XMR will spend any time in the $200 range. The price will creep toward $150 before exploding all the way to $300, and then peak near $425 by mid December. Going to effectively triple in price in the space of a month? Yeah I highly doubt that will happen. Be pretty shocked if it hit $200 by end of 2017 It happens. Pretty regularly, actually. Most recently XMR tripled in a week, back in August. "It's happened before so it WILL happen again!" Infallible logic! You can read it any way you like. Maybe you should short...

Or if you are convinced, do as Explorer suggested, stop this talking and put your money where your mouth is and short it. Go on, I dare you - you may be right, you could 'clean up'.

Hovering just under the $150 mark as I type - are we en route to a new ATH?
Further note: Buy side on Polo increasing steadily up a hundred BTC-ish since yesterday and a lot of XMR missing from the sell side (due to sales, presumably) are not being replaced...
Very bullish with BTC near ATH.

I cannot understand why dash has any traction. Can someone ELI5 for me? It makes me concerned that I may be fundamentally misunderstanding, well, everything.

I thought it was because all the masternodes have locked up most of the coins up so it's easier for them to pump the price...?

It's genius in the way it keeps coins off the market and can let you collect passive income with minimal effort. It's terribly designed and I am waiting for someone to exploit one of the algos and make a killing while destroying it. TBH, I'm kind of surprised the FBI hasn't stepped in and thrown Evan in jail for running an unregistered security, but I'm guessing they will use that as proof that cryptocurrencies need regulation, so timing is crucial.

I think people will start liquidating their masternodes by the time FBI does anything.

I can't . I have to reach for the restriction of supply by the self-interested Masternode Cabal, and the money coming into the centre being spent rather effectively on marketing (and pumping up the price) as an explanation. One feels that ultimately the Emperor must be seen to be naked, but it's been holding together so far, there are still no cracks appearing in the edifice. It's not for purists or savants, perhaps - but this market is not filled with purists, it's becoming filled with sheep looking for shiny things to follow that never stop increasing in value, irrespective of their true qualities.

Dash has been successful in only one sense: Understanding that what the masses actually want is horseshit wrapped in a logo. The argument could just as easily be applied to many manifestations of mainstream culture: McDonalds, iPhone, Coke, Budweiser, Hollywood remakes, Disney, etc. People generally love shit.If there is wisdom to be extrapolated it is that Monero needs to be aesthetically as advanced as any other piece of crap out there, and the gift of privacy/fungibility can be injected to an otherwise ignorance audience regardless. Brand and image requires as much attention from the Monero intelligentsia as cryptography, and much like the establishment of the Monero logo (99 designs) it will most likely require pushing to visual design experts. I say this, because I've been spending the last week or so redesigning the Monero subreddit which I intend to push to the community in the next couple of weeks. To be frank, the current subreddit looks kinda shitty, and it has sparked inspiration in me at least to review Monero's collective capacity to compete with mainstream brands. (It's do-able with the right mindset.)

I think many here see the ultimate deceit, but without a real use case, a lot of coins will not survive when the chickens come home to roost.
Dash, if / when it falls, will fall hard.

That said, it must be in character and distinctive - Monero is special.

You never have to worry about monero being over valued so long as it is valued at less than dark coin Agreed, that never seems to be the problem, in my eyes at least, Monero seems to be perpetually under priced! I posit that we call this "the dash indicator". If we pass it than no one will blame you for taking some profit but so long as we are under it you can feel safe that this market has further yet to run so just HODL. I cannot understand why dash has any traction. Can someone ELI5 for me? It makes me concerned that I may be fundamentally misunderstanding, well, everything.
I have a theory. They gain massive advantages from their centralized master node system. The exact same advantages that traditional banking has over crypto currencies. Scalability and a sort of privacy (you cant look at my bank activity). While at the same time claiming the clout that comes from being a decentralized crypto currency (even though they are more like traditional banking in reality). In a sense they have figured out how to have their cake and eat it too. Also what rangedriver said too.

I can kinda do a lot of the marketing myself through word of mouth and other renegade tactics, providing the branding and stylistics are on point. My golden rule tends to be: "Can I sell this to the girl next door and the Japanese?" If the answer is Yes and Yes.... then I know it's a winner.

Arguably Monero sells itself, but with so much crypto noise out there, it is right we must look good, too. Crucial, even. There are few going around, saying they love Monero's coding (even if that is what we rely upon) - so you are quite right that looks will help us spread the word - anything you can do that makes a smidgen of difference will help.
