Thinking of buying more XMR since it looks like it's gonna dip (again). But I want a better deal this time rather than being careless about it. So I need some opinions, hopefully not biased... Should I buy on March when the scheduled hard fork could dip the price deeper or should I buy at the current range?
I'm thinking about waiting til March... But what do you guys think?
Has a HF ever resulted in a dip? I'm not sure, but I don't think it has. Monero HF's aren't to be confused with the fear and uncertainty that occurs over in BTC land. I was just thinking the same thing.... The language sounds scary, hard fork. Maybe we should call it the annual easy fork or something. Oooo annual feature review Protocol Upgrade.

The hard fork is the bringer of gifts. It does not dip the price. Most likely the opposite. And of course my opinion is biased How could it be otherwise?

Sadly, the people who need to read that, could never read such a long article, and wouldn't understand it anyway. People will always lead themselves to their own doom if not diverted through guile or force. Reason is not the forte of the common man - and never found in a crowd.

2016: $15 was a lot - Probably not this year. 2017: $500 was a lot - Probably not this year. 2018: 9000 is a lot , probably not this year :p Probably is an oft used word. I am not in control of the market, nor any of its dynamics, therefore: Speculation. I'll ride with the trend - which is ~30x per year. Trends can change, I'm not pinning all my hopes on it, but it certainly wouldn't shock me to see another 30x year. 10x just seems so... boring, in this space.

Block 1479971 Timestamp 2018-01-04 20:27:13 UTC
Transaction confirmed. If you sync your wallet, you will see it. Unless its on Windows GUI, in which case it may take a few exit/resync cycles. Use the CLI to see for sure. I don't know why windows is so hard to work with. Best OPSEC practices never include windows for other reasons, so it's worth checking out Linux in any case. Nobody seems to have GUI issues with Linux.

Is FC really moving Bitcoin Cash funds around? Do we know it's him or did other people from AM/Bitfountain have access to the mining and/or selling funds, as well?
We all want to know it and hopefully sometimes we know it perhaps as leastwise a affective reimbursement for our big lost.... Ha! I don't expect anything. Wrote it off years ago. Doesn't stop the curiosity though!

Hello everyone,
I'm a long term holder and lurker on this thread.
I also got involved when Risto first mentioned it as a good investment. It looked like it was my chance after missing out on BTC.
Thanks to the people in this thread I've been holding all the way until last summer when a life circumstance meant I had to sell a single digit %.
It felt strange to sell but I have to remind myself to follow the simple saving plan also set out by Risto, to sell a % as it increases.
Like I said my hand was forced last summer but now I'm getting close to where I really should divest in case of some black swan event and I'm left with nothing.
Anyone else have mixed feelings about selling after holding for a long time.
I'm about there with you, all in Monero for several years. But people who talk about a lot and I think shit I have 3.5 times that I really have no exit strategy exactly. I think that's the worry. Ya, it's been a long haul. Same issue, I'm starting to get anxious to skim some value, but I keep passing sell points, and thinking, I can't sell for that! Bought some Ledgers with XMR at the peak though, and my New Year's Resolution is to sell some XMR for $. I will probably accept no less than $9000 each, so later in the year, I guess

Well if its all about the pumps maybe it will be our turn. I checked Binance to see what Monero was doing. it was their 64th most traded coin. 64th! And WTF is a Tron? You have to be kidding me. That's what I'm saying. It's just unfair to Monero.. The thing is though, that all this shit just eats away at bitcoin's market share. None of it competes with Monero. We can just carry on at our average pace of 30x increase every year, and in a startlingly short time, see them all from the top. Once hardware wallets are distributed, I think we'll be seeing new buyers, and a lot of coins leaving the exchanges. I'm betting the price goes up. Until recently, I was luke warm on hardware wallets. Then I did some shuffling of old paper wallets, and tried to help a few people secure their new crypto. I'm tellin' ya, they'd rather not. Period. It's frustrating as hell, but there is that simple answer. Hardware wallet to the rescue. They can't come too soon!

Its going to be spectacular witnessing the whole world of amateur investors going through the next crypto winter, never having seen such a thing and not knowing what the hell is going on. It's be a topic everywhere like the great depression.
Therefore not coming for the foreseeable future?

hello everyone,
i got 23 words seed recover from 2014, the new wallet asking for 25 words
were there any chance to recover this and how.
IIRC it was September 2014 that the seed was changed from 24 words to 25 words. 23 would be incomplete in either case. Presumably there is some software somewhere that will try the whole word list in each of the 24 places to determine the missing word, as tedious doesn't begin to describe the process otherwise. Try to narrow down the date of wallet generation to be sure which word list (I think it changed at the same time) this seed was created in 06-20-2014 so it look like i missing 1 word. if so where do i go to find the 1 missing. I did some searching, couldn't find the word list used. There's ~1600 words, so some type of cracking software would be required. My understanding is that the 24 word seed did not use a check sum word. If it did, a quick-ish check could be to insert the last word you recorded in each slot from 1-23, and alternately try each of the 23 as the repeated 24th. As I said though, I don't think the early seeds had a check sum I didn't use anything but Poloniex and Mymonero until 2016 due to hardware and connection issues, so I have no hands on experience with the earlier stuff (none that didn't end in frustration and failure, that is) Hopefully someone that is a little more wallet and password savy than I can take this further for you. As an aside, when establishing a new wallet it is a good practice to record the seed, then completely delete the wallet. Restore the new wallet from your recorded seed to establish its validity before ever transferring value. Obviously triple checking any hand made copies is also vital. Good luck.

So, I spent $15k USD, with change and paid a $10 transaction fee, and it confirmed in 32 minutes. That's not too bad.
Not very good, either. $1-5 and 2-4 minutes is what I call 'not too bad'. Comes with tx capacity similar to RSK, and completely fungible. Base layer Pretty good will be $0.25-$1 -coming this year, if not this quarter. I know. la la la la la la! I can't hear you! My first and probably last Monero shill post here.

The problem with Monero is essentially the same as with Bitcoin, it's outdated tech with limited to no chance of real world growth with the ride of new coins that actually solve big problems.
Wasteful PoW should have been replaced with PoS. We keep on hearing the same outdated 6 year old anti-PoS arguments over and over, but those issues have been resolved for some time now. We should have switched long ago.
Inefficient blockchain. Blockchain fundamentally cannot scale globally. Second layer solutions are no solutions at all becsusr they break the entire concept. DAG solved this. We should have switched long ago.
Ooh! Megatroll, we are honored. Welcome, Sir, your appearence is of course bullish. POS? Ahem... Sure... Noted Do try a little harder? True to form. Price rising steadily since he posted. Pretty cool how that always works. He's going to have to post hourly if I'm going to have 777 today, though.

Gold and silver do appeal to survivalists/preppers. If the shit really hits the fan that might be the only usable currency. The risk of such an apocalyptic event is however in my opinion zero. Having said that, it's always fun to own some gold and silver coins and bullions, I mean, who here didn't dream of having safe like Scrooge Mcduck's when they were young.
I like building little stonehenges out of the 100oz Ag bars...good clean fun. That's a really cool idea! I will have a permanent such stonehenge when I move in to my coming safe house. Maybe I'll put it in my cabinet of curiosities. Might have to go down to 10oz bars to fit it in a cabinet. I always wanted a 1000oz Ag door stop. Huh. Maybe I'll just get me one, now that I think of it To make ROach proud of me. A cabinet of curiosities is not an actual cabinet, it's more like a room or rooms full of weird stuff, they later evolved into museums. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cabinet_of_curiositiesThen you have room for larger, scale correct castings That 1000oz is proving elusive. Used to be everyone offered them.

I wasn't ware how vulnerable my computer (and bitcoins) were until I read that story. I always avoided buying an AMD chip computer, but now my next one might have an AMD chip in it.
Amazing. I have been working with MMU's since RSX11/M, you would think the eggheads at Intel could get this right. Nope, sounds like they could fuck up a wet dream..... It was deliberate, the NSA has been using it for years. Now that the muggles have figured it out, it's all hand wavy onoes we gotsta fix dat horrible mistake! /tinfoil

I've been trying to get my dad to buy bitcoins since the price was $2. He just called me tonight and said he wants to buy some. Not a good sign.
Yep. The 'I should have listened to you years ago' worms are crawling out of every crack. One I haven't seen since the 2014 smug looks. What does crow taste like, I wonder? No. Not really.
