I think it's a good idea. I would support the idea if it worked somewhat in the way of adding 1 "dmerit" per 3-5 earned merits.
I made a poll about in support. I think this could really change the community for the better.
URL to poll. All credits given.

About having many accounts, I absolutely do not deny it. In fact, I have many low and high rank accounts...
---
The summary is that I don't even know the number of accounts I have because it's not among the important priorities of my life.

I believe that this is just another in a series of alt accounts that the OP has, and it is really funny that he thinks that he is smarter than everyone else when he thinks that such naive tactics can help him in his plan. Now that he has completely exposed himself, I believe that his idea is to take revenge on some members with his alt account farm - but he has two very big problems - the first is to convince the admin to make a change in the merit system, and the second is how to we all pretend we don't know what he's doing.
442  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Donald Trump's stance on Bitcoin is changing on: February 26, 2024, 11:47:48 AM
I seriously doubt he even knows what Bitcoin is. His advisers probably told him that it is a buzzword that could potentially get him some votes. Otherwise politicians' stance on Bitcoin, specially in US, is not going to change much. They hate it but they don't want to show it...

I don't doubt that he knows this very well, because regardless of his character and acting as a classic American cowboy, the fact is that he has a nose for business, otherwise he wouldn't have built such a business empire. In addition, such a character does not tolerate others whispering too much in his ear, so what he recently said about Bitcoin is only the result of someone asking him about it, and not some kind of planned strategy.

I completely agree with the latter, because in the US there is a saying "in God the dollar we believe" and during his first mandate we heard countless times that the US will defend its currency by all means. They (politicians and bankers) don't like Bitcoin, but they don't mind the profit they make with it.
443  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi - Sirius emails 2009-2011 on: February 26, 2024, 11:28:22 AM
To me it is clear that Hal Finney wasn't Satoshi. It's also obvious that it would take too much time for someone to develop a conversation between him (Hal) and himself (Satoshi). So, Satoshi and Hal can't had been the same person.
~snip~

After reading the research I'm also pretty sure Hal is not Satoshi, unless he had someone helping him be in two places at the same time. However, some people will still believe it, because Hal was one of those who is very connected to Satoshi and regardless of the evidence that exists and some new ones that may appear in the future, he will still be the best candidate for those who they are looking for Satoshi.

~snip~
In the end "everything is plausible", more or less probable in mathematical terms ofc... except that CW is SN Tongue

Look, I have no problem with anyone wanting to believe anything, even that CW is the real Satoshi - but when the evidence clearly points to the fact that it isn't, then we need to take it into account before trying to convince ourselves and others of some false conclusions. Most of those who have seriously investigated this mystery agree that Satoshi was an individual and not a group of people.
444  Other / Meta / Re: Hey Theymos, There Should Be a Demotion Button on: February 26, 2024, 11:13:52 AM
This has been proposed in various forms over the years but theymos has always been against them and for good reason. Certain people would just downvote posts by users they don't like regardless of how valid the post is.

If such an option existed, then an individual user should not have the possibility to demerit someone alone, but a member could be demerited only if there are more than, say, 5 DT users who would use such an opportunity on a certain post. Even if we go so far that someone manages to abuse it, the final decision could be made by admin and global moderators.

A similar system exists on the other forum in the form of something called karma, where it is possible to give positive and negative karma for an individual post, but their admin is very strict about any abuse of that option, so I think that few dare to abuse it.

Actually, I was part of 134th brigade that prevented Mladić from cutting Croatia in two near Biograd, and you're probably 20y old kid
who is bitter because your grandpa fought on Nazi side in WW2 and lost, like your heros Bandera and Pavelić

You are a stinking Yugoslav coward who feels sorry for Tito and Yugoslavia and that your people did not kill as many real Croats as possible when you had the chance. I wonder what your comrades-in-arms would say if they knew what your views are on the matter of Ukraine, given that some of them are fighting there for Ukraine, and all but one of them that I know support Ukraine.

Given that you have already given enough information about yourself, I will ask about the famous "warrior Branko" who fought against the Serbs in the war, and if I find out what your last name is, I will certainly inform your comrades that you support Putler and his hordes of death.
446  Other / Meta / Re: Hey Theymos, There Should Be a Demotion Button on: February 25, 2024, 12:19:31 PM
I agree with the OP, but if that button will be used first on him and all his alt accounts that would have exactly 0 merit after that.

Considering that the story is repeated again that those who ask for some strange things (or make unnecessary excuses) actually draw attention to themselves and their shady actions, maybe someone will find some OP alt account that is permanently banned, and then we know what that means for all other accounts.

Happy hunting guys Wink

Sorry, this seems to coincide with Hal Finney as he had ALM and only lived 2-5 years. This makes me more confident that Hal Finney is Satoshi Nakamoto. If this is true, Satoshi was truly great when he spent the last time of his life developing Bitcoin.

and here we go with another "coincidence" about that HF is/was SN, i could not agree more with you, there is LOTS of "coincidences" about them...
Check the life of HF and you will discover a good and a very intelligent man, even in his last days of life.

Anyone who claims that Hal Finney was Satoshi Nakamoto should read the research done by James Lopp in which he proved that while Satoshi was active online Hal was on the other hand active in real life running races. Unless Hal had an associate who "played" Satoshi for him, this is very concrete evidence that Hal Finney was not Satoshi.

On Saturday April 18, 2009 at 8 AM Pacific time Hal Finney, an avid runner, began a 10 mile race in Santa Barbara, California. We can see his results here:
Source: https://archive.is/46t9A

Why is this noteworthy? Because Satoshi was performing activities at the same time that Hal was running. For the hour and 18 minutes that Hal was running, we can be quite sure that he was not interacting with a computer.

It turns out that early Bitcoin developer Mike Hearn was emailing back and forth with Satoshi during this time. Hearn later published his emails on his web site; you can find a copy archived here.

We can see from the timestamps that Mike emailed Satoshi on Apr 18, 2009 at 3:08 PM and Satoshi replied at 6:16 PM. But what time zone was Mike's email client reporting? Well, Hearn conveniently included his IP address at the time (because one way of sending and receiving bitcoin back then was via direct connection to a peer node's IP address) and his address was 84.73.233.199. A quick lookup shows that this IP belongs to a Swiss ISP.
Source: https://www.whois.com/whois/84.73.233.199

This lines up with the well-established fact that Mike Hearn was working for Google at the time, out of their Zurich office. I additionally confirmed these details directly with Mike during my investigation.

What can we determine from all of this? Satoshi sent the email to Mike at 9:16 AM Pacific time - 2 minutes before Hal crossed the finish line.
448  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Donald Trump's stance on Bitcoin is changing on: February 25, 2024, 11:26:02 AM
@bbc.reporter, I don't believe that his attitude has really changed, but that he is just trying to win as many votes as possible from those voters who have something to do with Bitcoin. I remember that he was very negative when it came to Bitcoin, and that towards the end of his term he tried to push through some crazy measures that were then suspended by the Biden administration.

I honestly consider him a man with dangerous intentions in every respect, and I think that if he becomes president again, it will be bad for most people in the world. The man who called Bitcoin a scam a few years ago still thinks the same, and everything he is talking about now is cheap pre-election propaganda.

The former US president told Fox Business' Stuart Varney: "Bitcoin, it just seems like a scam. I was surprised — you know, with us, it was at $6,000 and, much lower. I don't like it because it's another currency competing against the dollar, essentially it's a currency competing against the dollar." Trump also said that the currency of the world should be the US dollar and called for regulations on bitcoin. "I don't think we should have all of the bitcoins in the world out there. I think they should regulate them very very high, but the currency should be the dollar," he said.
449  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: February 25, 2024, 11:05:08 AM
Lol, those are YOUR people protesting, globalists, not communists. All of them support Ukraine and Soros

You should be ashamed to support Azov and their hero Ratko Mladić

These are the real communists, and you are one of those stinkers who love Yugoslavia and your bloody leader Tito, who killed over 400 000 Croats after World War II. Your grandfather was probably one of the executioners, and your father raised you to hate Croats and the country you live in.

Ratko Mladic is a hero of Serbia, Russia and stinking Yugoslavs like you, and real Ukrainians have always supported Croatia, from the first day when real Croatian volunteers fought for independence, unlike you and others like you who were forcibly mobilized, and today you receive pensions of EUR 1000 and wave the flags of the failed Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union.
450  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: February 24, 2024, 05:48:58 PM
@paxmao, I wonder how you can stand it and how you have the will to hold discussions with brainwashed communists? He (Branko) and his red gang recently held a rally where they waved symbols of communism because they have the Soviet Union and comrades Tito and Stalin in their hearts.

Of course, the protest was directed against the current government, but the symbols they use speak more than clearly about the kind of people they are.

451  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Frankfurt chosen as headquarters for new EU anti-money laundering authority over on: February 24, 2024, 10:49:32 AM
It should not be too important where the headquarters of an agency is located, although Frankfurt is the city where the headquarters of the ECB (European Central Bank) are also located, and also the headquarters of some well-known companies such as the Deutsche Bank Twin Towers.

Perhaps it is a matter of German influence when it comes to such decisions, and perhaps other countries have not shown too much interest in having the headquarters of such an agency in their country. I just think that this agency should focus much more on money laundering that goes through banks, and much less on any crypto transactions, which are only the tip of the iceberg.
452  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi - Sirius emails 2009-2011 on: February 24, 2024, 10:31:53 AM
Anyway, I'm a little bit surprised to know that despite the popular belief that Satoshi Nakamoto disappeared since December 12, 2010, these emails are saying it isn't true. Satoshi actually continued to respond to emails even in 2011. The last email coming from Satoshi in this compilation alone was already in February of 2011. And there must probably be more. God knows who else Satoshi corresponded with away from the public.

It's no secret that Satoshi continued to communicate privately with some people long after he left the forum, and the alleged last communication happened on April 26, 2011, at least according to Andresen. Perhaps the time has finally come for all private e-mails that do not threaten Satoshi's privacy to be finally published - and for those who collaborated with him to once again contribute to the truth about Bitcoin.

The alleged final break between Satoshi and his collaborators would come on April 26, 2011.

According to records from Andresen, Satoshi sent him an email that day in which he asked him to downplay the idea he was a “mysterious shadowy figure,” at the time adopting a short and reproachful tone to the project’s new “technical lead.”**

"The press just turns that into a pirate currency angle. Maybe instead make it about the open source project and give more credit to your contributors; it helps motivate them,” Satoshi wrote.

This was followed by a separate message that contained only a copy of the cryptographic key to Bitcoin’s alert system, one that effectively gave Andresen sole control over security notifications.

In response, Andresen would acknowledge the advice, but he quickly moved to more pressing matters, informing Satoshi about his intentions to attend an “annual conference on emerging technologies for US intelligence.”**

@theymos, you once mentioned the possibility that private forum messages belonging to Satoshi will one day be published, is there any chance of that happening now or in the near future?

It makes sense, even though the man does odd jobs, and it would definitely fall into that category if he had such an "advertisement" in his signature. Anyway, somehow it doesn't seem to me that people are interested in any odd jobs, although I remember some offering them in the past.

I remember one member who claimed that he would send excrement from animals from the zoo to any address - a dirty and odd business no matter how you look at it Roll Eyes
454  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anatsa Android malware downloaded 150,000 times via Google Play on: February 23, 2024, 12:14:37 PM
I am very careful with the apps I install from GP and I always check them before I install them, and they are always apps that have been there for a long time and have several hundred thousand or even more than a million downloads. Although it is not a method that can protect you 100%, it is still better to have some method than to download everything randomly.

For those who don't want or don't have time to do thorough checks, it might not be a bad option to install a good antivirus program that could warn them and protect them from infection if they try to download such a malicious app.
455  Economy / Speculation / Re: As Bitcoin Prepare for more Bull, What's your Decision on: February 23, 2024, 11:59:34 AM
also those who want to do it for profit can still make massive gains, where else would you get
100% profit within lets say for arguments sake 12 months if investing today?

For those who look at the world from a realistic perspective, 100% profit in 12 months must be a perfect thing, but when it comes to those who know that before with BTC you could earn x20 in that same period, or even x100 long before that - then that 100% doesn't seem very tempting, does it? People always want more, that's why they invest in altcoins.

~snip~
I invest because I want to make sure that I do not face any trouble in the future, and that type of stuff matters, we should be careful about it and we could use our money for our benefit and our ease of mind. I am glad to sell each time I did, win or lose, because I have made my life easier that way.

Of course, when an extraordinary situation happens to us, we should not hesitate too much to sell BTC - although it is much more profitable to sell at a time when we have a big bull run and then save that money for emergency situations. The difference between the ATH and the absolute bottom was more than $50 000 last time.
456  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Do Kwon arrested on: February 23, 2024, 11:27:17 AM
The High Court in Podgorica made a decision to extradite Do Kwon to the US, but the problem is that there is currently a political dispute over who is responsible for this extradition - the authorities cannot agree whether the High Court or the Minister of Justice. In addition to all this, his lawyers claim that the decision is illegal and announce a lawsuit - and that speaks for itself - a country where the decisions of the High Court are not respected can hardly be called a country where there is a rule of law.
457  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] [banned mixer] Signature Campaign | Up to $150/W on: February 23, 2024, 10:59:14 AM
the question now arises, there are now 24 different avatars, does this mean that there will also be an increase in the number of participants in this campaign at some point?

I don't know the definitive answer to your question, but considering the past campaigns managed by @icopress, the choice of avatars was always greater than the number of active participants. I think the point is that the participants have the opportunity to choose between as many avatars as possible.

A newbie account made the offer. You think it's still TMAN?

Someone is obviously messing with you, and you think the offer is real? If by any chance you agreed to that offer, not only would you not get anything in return, but you would also get some "bad" feedback.

I don't know if any sig campaign offers a place for Member rank, but I suggest that you check that option, and if you really want a high-quality sig campaign, you will have to put in a lot more effort on the forum.
459  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many times we will make the same mistake? - History repeats Again & Again! on: February 22, 2024, 03:19:01 PM
~snip~
Bitcoin has been giving such profits for about 12 to 13 years, I don't think anything else in the world can give so much ROI in such a short period of time. But where is the problem with our trust in Bitcoin?

10 years ago Bitcoin was still something relatively new (although some say it still is today), and it really doesn't make much sense to compare gold and real estate with investing in Bitcoin in relation to that period. It is not only about trust, but also the fact that even today people prefer to invest in something tangible, rather than in something that the majority still do not understand and can hardly understand the virtual value of something like Bitcoin.

Maybe 10 years from now in 2034 someone will be doing this same calculation, that 10 years ago in 2024 if we bought Bitcoin we would have made 34600% profit. At that time maybe the price of Bitcoin will rise at 8 digits! Maybe I won't be around then but Bitcoin will be fine. Smiley

Regardless of the optimism that I personally have, I still do not think that someone who invests in Bitcoin today will in 10 years make the kind of profits that were made in the past. I expect that then the price will be in six digits, but I am not inclined to believe that it will be more than x10 compared to today's price. Of course, this is not a bad price - but in 10 years, $500k will have much less purchasing power than today.
