I wish I could help you, but I don't know why you cannot connect.  You currently are running one Cube without any issues right?

The only thing that I think could be effecting it is that your router and your computer are not on the same subnet, one is on 10 and the other 1...

How did you get your first Cube running correctly?  How come you cannot replicate that course of action? Undecided
462  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie question about the future of mining on: December 31, 2013, 10:50:32 PM
It all depends on the difficulty.  It's rather easy to project what the next difficulty jump will be, however it is much less accurate to predict where the difficulty will be in a few months, a year, etc.

Edit:  if you want to mine for profit, I suggest a Scrypt GPU mining rig for starters.  Cheap, you can resell the GPUs, and they are profitable.  ASICs are much more unpredictable and have little-to-no resale value after they become obsolete.

Code:
MHS:31010 Utility:424 Efficieny[sic (heh, that kills me)]:080.84%

Is there anything else I can do to push it to that 38GH range?

Dude, thank you very much for your help. As soon as it's all settled down, I'll be buying you a nice, top shelf, White Russian for your time.

Now, does anyone know/have a link for what the "Pools" and "Mode" buttons do?

Hah!  I didn't even notice that they butchered the word "efficiency" on the Cube page.

Far out on the White Russian.  Hopefully you make one hell of a Caucasian.

Pools simply switches between the primary and secondary pool.
Mode switches between alternating between pools, and using one the secondary pool as a fail-safe.

As far as pushing it to the 38GH range, the only thing that I can think of would be to beef up the PSU.  I think their power recommendations are a bit misleading since a lot of people are having issues with the PSU either not working on the high setting or not working at all.

Can you give us a link to past jobs and/or portfolio?

Thanks!

This.  Would love to see some past jobs.

465  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup on: December 31, 2013, 09:50:37 PM
It really can't be running that slow, can it? The power suppy is a brand new, dedicated, paper-clipped Corsair, CX600. That should be plenty.

Yeah that certainly doesn't sound right.  Your PSU should have more than enough juice to run it at high speed and the Cube page is showing 36GH/s.  It might just be an issue with what Slush's pool is reporting.

Personally, I don't find Slush's pool to be very reliable as I had problems accessing my stats for the very brief time that I was mining there.  I'd give BTC Guild a try as I have been steadily getting over 38GH/s with my Cube there.  I was getting 35-36GH/s at Slush's pool.

466  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 5850s, PSUs. on: December 31, 2013, 08:47:07 PM
Hmmm, I might be looking to buy these soon.  I like the 5850s and find them to be very efficient and I think I can cram 3-5 more into some boards I have laying around.  Need to clean up the house from the holidays first and get my rigs fired back up.

Depending on the price, I might be interested in the mobos as well.  How many PCI-e slots do the mobos have?

You giving up on the mining game?
467  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Network hashrate to triple in the next 45 days? How?? on: December 31, 2013, 08:30:07 PM
Wow, you're saying that the network might actually decrease in difficulty (possible in the blockchain?), if it even stays the same for the next month, and you called it, that is like world wide, front page breaking news. Mr. Exclusive Damnsammit

I never said it would decrease... I said it would be nice if it would decrease in difficulty but that I don't think we will see that happening before all 21 million Bitcoins have been mined.

The only point of this thread was that people keep saying ASIC X will never ROI, and they are basing this on the continued climbing difficulty.  I am trying to get more information on how the difficulty can continue to climb at the %rate that it has been the last 6 months.  To that, I say that instead of the 30-40% increases we have been seeing for most of the last quarter will be halved starting with the next difficulty jump that will happen tomorrow.

Granted, the likelihood of a lot of miners being profitable is a tossup because we can't effectively calculate what the difficulty will be in March/April of 2014 however, even if the difficulty only increases 15% over the next 10 retargets we are looking at a network hashrate of 40+ PH/s by the end of March.  I don't know how this can be possible and feel that the difficulty climbs are going to have to slow down soon - not stop. If the average difficulty jump goes down from 28.75% to 14% for a few months, then it is very possible for a lot of the current ASIC devices to ROI.

Although, after all of that is said, I thought this was already happening in November when we saw consecutive retargets of <20%...

Looks like you are up and running!  Congrats Smiley

The "-gp 8332" just let's the proxy miner know to look for getwork from that port.  It shouldn't need to be added, but it doesn't hurt anything to throw that in there.

No experience with Eligius but I'm sure someone can point you in the right direction if you want to use that pool.

What PSU are you using?  Seems a lot of people are not getting the advertised 38GH/s and I'm curious as to why... I've been running at ~97% efficiency ever since I got it working usually getting slightly over 38GH/s

Gigabyte HD 5870 Super OC
Problem most likely is caused by unstable or damaged video card. Windows default drivers don't use specific acceleration features of card that might be malfunctioning. So the 16-bit colors also might be OK. Try to lower overclocking to default HD5870 speeds, it might solve the problem or make it less severe. Bt most likely he GPU chip is damaged and the whole card need to be replaced.

He stated earlier that he swapped out the GPU with an NVIDIA card and the problem was still there.

I don't think this would solve anything, but it is worth a shot.

Yeah I think you're dead right it is a tough one... I wonder too if there is a happy medium, I reckon it is probably not possible because really anything connected to the internet is a risk. It looks like if you are storing coins cold storage is the best bet and then maybe have some in your normal wallet to play around with.

I think I will get to work on making a cold storage thread on my forum. Do you know if armory id available for other coins or is it just BTC?

I don't think Armory is available for any altcoins, just Bitcoin.

Thread with a little discussion on it from the developer of Armory:

471  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WARNING, WALLET STEALER!!! on: December 31, 2013, 07:03:57 PM
I think wallet security is the biggest fundamental flaw with Bitcoin.

Everyone compares Bitcoin with cash with good reason.  After all, storing Bitcoin in an online wallet is akin to stuffing your cash in a stranger’s mattress.  No one would do that, yet people still use online wallets and, in the case of inputs.io, lose a lot of money by doing so.

The wallet stealing viruses can easily be prevented, but it is not something that most people really think of when downloading programs.  It’s not really the same as being pickpocketed because you never even have to come in contact with the criminal.  It’s more similar to someone leaving a business card on your windshield and you placing that in your wallet and then when you get home you notice that the business card just ate all of your cash.

Cold storage is the best way to prevent this, but even with Armory’s efforts to make it as easy as possible; this is a very complicated process for some people and a deterrent for them to actually spend their Bitcoins.

Online storage is easy to spend but it is not safe.
Cold storage is very safe but is not easy to spend.

Is there a happy medium (safe and easy to spend) that I am missing?

I say format your computer and do a fresh install...

I've had GPU issues with mining before that I could not fix with driver sweeper and the fresh install always cleared them up right away.  Although a fresh install is much more convenient on a mining rig than a computer that you actually use.
473  Other / Off-topic / Re: Can Anyone Explain This...? on: December 31, 2013, 06:31:54 PM
It's definitely not the browser cache because the problem happens on my desktop, in games, etc... Like I said, I just brought that image up in the browser window... But I will give it a try anyways and see what happens...

Very strange that it doesn't happen all the way across the screen.  Are you using a pirated version of Windows?  Might try a fresh install and see if that clears it up... I know that is not a fun thing to do, but it doesn't seem like it's a GPU issue.

I had a GPU that did something similar to that, but it took over the whole screen and distorted the colors along the line as well.  Have you changed graphics cards recently?
474  Other / Off-topic / Re: Can Anyone Explain This...? on: December 31, 2013, 06:25:41 PM
Is it only when in a browser?  If so, have you tried other browsers?

The reason I ask is that I noticed the diagonal line, but only inside of the Chrome broswer.  If it was your video card, then the whole video output should be distorted, including the window itself (red X should be distorted), and the taskbar.  I don't see any distortion except in the Chrome window itself.
475  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup on: December 31, 2013, 06:21:40 PM
Yeah, OP didn't need to have a Gateway in there for it to work, but when I changed it my Cube started working so I don't know if some routers demand it or what... btw, you have you Gateway as 192.169.1.1

try adding "-gp 8332" to your batch file...

Never used Eligius before, but I have gotten mine to work on BTCGuild and Slush's pool.

As stupid as it sounds, double check your worker's name and password.  I had mine entered incorrectly after trying several different pools unsuccesfully and was missing a period in the worker name.

Undecided

Other than that I have no idea... it looks like everything is set up properly and like it should be working.
476  Other / Off-topic / Re: Can Anyone Explain This...? on: December 31, 2013, 06:09:03 PM
I don't understand the question... Huh

I just see a screenshot of a Google Chrome window on some page with wall papers...  are you talking about the images in Chrome being blotchy?  Does every site look like that or just that one?   I don't see the "diagonal line down the center" that you are talking about...

477  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Network hashrate to triple in the next 45 days? How?? on: December 31, 2013, 05:20:31 PM
Good tally. There is the 10 days of "pre-testing" (aka poaching of other peoples' pre-orders) by all the manufacturers who are

shipping in Feb-March, mining is becoming more and more centralized, so there are probably big data centers doing private orders and

receiving private shipments.  KnC continues to ship hard and fast.

I know the KnC Neptune will be shipping in Q2 2014 and that will add to the inevitable large spike in the coming months.  What units

are they shipping right now?  The Jupiter?  That's 550GH/s so they would need to ship about 40,000 of those units in the next couple

of months to increase the difficulty at the current average rate.

But let's see what the diff increase is today. Will you publish it here if you're watching it?

Definitely will post it here as soon as I see it...

It looks like the average net hashrate over the last 100 blocks (block 277495-277595) was ~9.9PH/s which is only an increase of 4.5%

from the net hashrate of the last jump (9.5PH/s @ block 276192)

However, after a little more research it looks like the net hash rate has recently been over 30-50PH/s at various block which is a bit unnerving... maybe these are calculation errors or something?  How can the hashrate fluctuate as much as 500% within a few blocks?

All of my data is from here:  http://blockexplorer.com/q/nethash/2016

If the average net hashrate data is correct, then I would be shocked if the next difficulty jump is not under 15%

Edit:  Okay, I went back 2000 blocks to get a better picture, and also realized I was looking at this wrong... the net hash rate is just a calculation that I was getting from blockexplorer.com so I decided to look at the time of the blocks solved and the past 2000 blocks have been solved at an average of 494.25 seconds each or on target to solve 2016 blocks in 11.53 days.

This is 17.6% below the target time of 10 minutes per block, so the difficulty should adjust ~18% correct?

I will check out the amps and let you know, guess I need new fuses now too as they are melting?

Thanks for the help  Grin

Yeah, you should be able to find a fuse at your local car supply store like AutoZone or O'Reiley's

Just make sure to get a 12V 30A fuse.
