Terminologically wise; and a solid basis of a hypothesis to have a conversation on; (ad infinitum) it is... Smiley

The term "successful" is subjective to one's fundamental principles; I for one, consider a woman (highly educated or not) more successful if she's a devoted mother, rather than possessing a chief position in a corporation. One cannot exclude the other though, in a country like Greece, the paradigms are fuzzy, which points the outcome of the discussion to the personal opinion of each and everyone. FWIW: Most women I've asked on the subject (MDs, Physicists, Mathematicians, Scientists) agree with my point of view.

However, every second devoted to a child is one less second devoted to surmounting those that devoted the second to surmounting you. (Note: those you reference do not, as of yet, compete within the "Knowledge Age.")

One can argue; that by using the way I described, they actually have more potential on creating a new one...  Roll Eyes

Though it may be a bit of a stretch to say that Mark was in any way ever directly involved with them. He seems to imply that he was not in his SR timeline piece. Why do you think an unknown intern may have been part of any scheme? That's news to me.

He admitted he had been losing BTCs since sometime in 2011 from MtGox's hot wallet via the allegedly "Transaction Malleability". Given his paranoia with keeping the cold wallet password on himself (not commenting on rumors that he VNC'd via an UNENCRYPTED connection the "so called" cold wallet of his) I believe he got burned from inside-out. Not ruling out he was acting by himself, but I think it's less possible to be the case.

“Laissez faire les proprietaires.”
— Pierre-Joseph Proudhon

"Leave it to the owner". I couldn't agree more... There's a collective intelligence in the world. Don't underestimate it. I have reasons to believe that we happen to be a part of (maybe) the most intelligent (idiots) of them all -or the most crazy- not much of a difference really. I've explained to some people about it in the past in very great detail, even in the most difficult situations, nature always finds its way out of dead-ends. So are humans.

Just wait and see. It has happened before, and it will certainly happen again. Maybe it's already happening as we speak. Certain individuals on this thread know exactly what I mean.

Cheers.

[...] I question the use of the term 'successful'. The entire society has been destroyed by the socialism.
I am not against the exception, such as Barbara Liskov in computer science. Heck the world champion female sprinters can run faster than I did at my peak. I am speaking about the reality of the distribution.
This humanism in Europe that thinks women and men should be raised with the same directions for vocations is eugenics insanity.
macsga sorry I don't think there is a non-evil improvement for democracy. Let's burn the entire concept and form a decentralized meritocracy.

I will allow TPTB to speak for himself, but women choosing to have babies (vs. a career) may very well be making the knowledgeable choice.

Females impart their evolutionary strategy by the genes of the men they choose to mate with and the rearing they can give their offspring. Females only rarely directly drive the major technological or philosophical advances that drive society. Sorry but these are damned but true facts.

Agree! Last century's eugenics physically occurred based on the choice of the women. We never get to "choose"; they do! We just hunt them! Smiley FWIW: This gets to change in many places in the world; I'm in position of knowing that we can fortify the "creation" of smarter kids without the need of a woman or man anymore... Don't tell Bioethicists I told so... Tongue

Bitcoin price follows certain patterns. I don't know how it manages to do so, but frankly, if you sit down and test them they're there! I was talking with a friend here (Physicist) that said they were nothing but fractalized following specific ups and downs within a specific timeframe. He used historical data to prove his claim and I agreed that most of it (as an argument) was true.

You will often see people who are doing TA charts here claiming -more or less- this obvious similarity of BTC after a time period of circa 2y. I don't believe it very much but the last couple of times it worked like a clockwork! Honestly, I really want to observe carefully what TPTB/Armstrong predict about BTC/Gold price respectively. I don't know if I'll buy the chance, but I will closely watch for it.

If the aforementioned correlation is there, it's gonna be awesome! Smiley

Double digits soon?

TPTB you failed forecaster, you promised me double digits at September!!!!  Cheesy Tongue

Still early Klee... Still early!  Grin

Seriously now: It's quite a long shot to assume that BTC will follow gold's foot after the storm hits the markets, TPTB_need_war has a point though which I'm seriously thinking to go ahead and follow. I'm 50-50 yes or no...  Roll Eyes

I've noticed here in the Philippines, the females are vehemently anti-abortion and anti-birth control. It is very, very difficult to get them to take birth control pills and they are not that happy about using a condom. These are real women who want to have the real happiness of bearing children and raising a family. My own mother criticizes me when I don't force the women I am involved with to use birth control pills!

How would, within your "Knowledge Age," such women compete with the "career woman"?

I will allow TPTB to speak for himself, but women choosing to have babies (vs. a career) may very well be making the knowledgeable choice.

Humanity must reproduce to be a going concern.  Happy women tend to make happy mothers, who make happier children, who are then more likely to be positive and productive people (over-generalizing of course).

Not all "careers" are created equal.

username18333: By no means the first excludes the other from the equation. Most successful women I know are successful mothers as well. Besides, a career (no matter how successful it may become) never matches a child's happy moments. Children are the way for us to live forever. They're our eyes to the world when we will be no more; those failing to understand that our "immortality" is based on our children are completely ignorant and fools.

That's the reason we need to raise our children the best way we can. Don't misunderstand this with us providing "more and more money" to study them well, or to provide them with the best food and education. A child well raised is a child well loved. This is the way we should raise our children in order to provide better ground for the world to stand. Not by following our "career" with the cheap excuse "to have money for my child".

If I could; I'd have more than one child. Unfortunately, because of health issues of my wife, it wasn't possible. But I don't complain; he's an unexpected gift already.

So (not) sad to see Mark got re-arrested again. Japanese detention is not something I would wish on my worst enemy, but in Mark's case I think I can put those feelings aside.

So now he faces a total of 46 days of interrogation, meals high in white rice & low in anything resembling nutrition, and extremely limited access to a lawyer. Typical Japanese technique to force a confession. Given it's almost certain he is guilty of something, I wonder how long he'll last...

Besides my feelings about his idiocy [on so many aspects] regarding his handling such a case, I expect that he DEFINITELY has to reveal what happened. I don't care about my missing BTCs, they were lost anyway; but surely care to know the specifics. I believe (and wrote it before here) he was not acting alone. Were the two rogue agents with him in this? An unknown intern? I'm sure he has plenty of stuff to say now that the "gag order" has no meaningful reason to exist.
512  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 21, 2015, 06:17:11 AM
Everyone is entitled to their opinions. To understand what prompted me in my decision I suggest reading this article https://letstalkbitcoin.com/blog/post/confessions-of-an-r-bitcoin-moderator and the following thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1157912.0. There is a serious sickness in the Bitcoin community which goes far deeper than the fear of a drop in price. The recent closure of the following thread going back to 2012 is a perfect example. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=68655.0.

Edit: This thread has a poll. Let me guess: "CIA" is code for Gavin's proposal, in order to avoid this thread from being closed.

Since you're long enough here to judge from a advantageous POV, here's a thought you might want to read:

Trying to understand how the world runs on its wheels, nobody should disagree, that these wheels are called "money". Regardless of what people think about Bitcoin, it's a new set of wheels & suspension system at the same time. Technology wise, it's nowhere near whatever all these hundreds of years of civilization has presented so far. It's ingeniously engineered, wisely implemented and uses scientific concepts that nobody would've thought about 20y ago.

Now, there's the current "system" that several people (you can use the word "corporations" here) have been using to control their field of interest, whether this is medical, IT, Engineering, Communications etc. They will simply won't let their car on some other hands other than their own. At least, not without a fight. Funnily enough, it seems that the world is running out of time (monetary wise). So, a federalization model for the whole planet that would use the old driver, seems to run to an end. Some say a few months, others say less than a year - doesn't really matter. This is over.

Coming to the present day, I've written elsewhere, that "Everybody Has His Price". If the XT fork is orchestrated by a fraction of people that want control over BTC, then it was only a matter of time to "pwn" its "chief scientist". We're talking about the next wheels here. MORE car - MORE secure - FASTER than ever. So, no; this won't be the end of Bitcoin. Forked or not, there are more than the half of coins mined so far. If the consensus won't come, TPTB can keep the remaining ones and still be happy.

I *still* don't know if we should be happy with it though...

macsga, always democracy is a power vacuum. And thus yes the elite will take control of Bitcoin. No doubt in my mind.

The only way I can see to avoid that is to use technological innovation to remove the need for consensus in crypto currency. Such as eliminating the 51% attack vector and enabling users to burn their coins and transfer them to another chain, so that value becomes orthogonal to chain protocol. Soon we will have this technology.

Flaws will always be present when introducing innovative technologies. First we had to remove human greed out of the monetary system. We used complex random matrix equations and distributed computing to do it. Now we face consensus; we will find a way to eliminate this as well. There's no doubt that technology is our friend but also a foe in many cases. We -as a species- must learn to overcome the obstacles. We've managed to do it throughout the last couple of thousands of years, why not now?

I'm thinking of a new type of Democracy. But first we must fix the currency. "Money makes the world go around". Wink

Joseph Stiglitz on Greece's new memorandum:

“Deep-seatedly wrong” economic thinking is killing Greece

Among the puzzling aspects of the MoU are demands for reforms on things seemingly trivial as milk. While pensioners are eating out of garbage cans, the troika has been haggling over how old a carton of milk can be if it is to be labeled “fresh.” Stiglitz observes that if you look closely you see that special interests — in this case the big dairy companies of Holland — appear to be behind the reforms. Dutch milk sellers would prefer that their milk, which travels long distances to reach Greece, be allowed to call itself fresh — a move that will only hurt local dairies. By discouraging local production, the MoU paves the way for even more Greek unemployment and less demand for goods and services — hardly a recipe for economic health. (The chairman of the Eurogroup , it may be worth noting, is Jeroen Dijsselbloem, the Dutch Finance minister).

It's cool to read texts like this. There are voices of reason like Charlie Lee's. He gets perfectly what's at stake here; most people of the community don't, though. Consensus protocol is something that -like the friend nakaone posted above- based on general agreement (aka: Democracy). Nobody gets to do what he has in mind without getting the general agreement. People get anxious! They feel abandoned and berated! They think there is a secret agenda here and it's pretty obvious.

WAIT! I don't disagree with it! Government is the killer app of Bitcoin as my friend NewLiberty posted elsewhere. Do they want in? By all means YES! Under one condition: They must follow consensus! What's happening here is the general disagreement towards a single-man addressing of a known problem. It's OK! SOLVE IT! But be kind and let others know, get other's opinion. GET CONSENSUS!

One thing's for sure, I wrote it before but I must post it again. "Every man has his price". We're talking about next gen monetary system here and -at least now- this must be obvious to everybody. FWIW: Even if there's no consensus, even if there are two bitcoin forks, there will STILL remain enough to run the system. TPTB knows this. They just want their control over it. Simple as that.

You can't spend a $220 bill at a fast food drive-in in Belgium:

http://www.armstrongeconomics.com/archives/36159

In the meantime, Greece is heading for elections on Sept. 20.. There's a physical impasse between ideology and the "EU business" and this has to be cleared out. As I've expressed earlier "Democracy lives no more in Greece" since elections is just another elegant tool of the EU totalitarianism to do their job. There's absolutely no difference what the Greek people will vote.

Our ability as a nation to decide about ANYTHING ended the moment our elected government decided that would be a disaster if we leave the EU. Maybe they know better; but that's not what people elected them for.  Undecided

Is it possible that a majority government will be elected that are anti-EU?

Scientifically speaking everything is possible (as explained in detail in MWI model by Graham-Everett-Wheeler) but the most possible scenario would be that PM Tsipras will get rid with a "democratic procedure" the far left wing party that opposes to his "decisions" (or if you prefer the directives the EU officials forced him to implement).

The worst case scenario (which is very possible) is that the far right (the fascist scheme of Golden Dawn) gets a good proportion of the "anti-memorandum" people that in the previous elections vote for SYRIZA and NEW GREEKS parties (which is now government). That would mean the country who invented Democracy ends up with a scheme that eliminates it. This is just fucking sad. Cry
