Would you pay 8 BTC for 2 months of mining?
...
7% = 4TH/s

So not very big.

What is this calculation in regards to?

It's a very interesting thought - a 200GH miner for $300?? Anyone heard any hint of this?

1.5$ per GH/s is to be expected from all ASIC miners to be made available in about 6 months time.
I would not be very surprised if the KnCMiner Neptune manages 6000GH/s, which equals to $1.66 per GH/s

I know it is highly optimistic, but then again the Jupiter was advertised as 250GH/s when announced and it is currently hashing at 675GH/s, which is a 170% increase.
A 3000GH/s miner with the same percentage increase would be 8100GH/s, so 6000 sounds possible.

I spoke with eleuthria and the local math wizard organofcorti and they both confirmed there is no easy way to precisely confirm the pool luck, which is a deal braker for me.

Switch to PPS and you don't have to deal with luck. Period.

(My preferred way is to put 3/4 workers on PPLNS and 1/4 workers on PPS)

Would you pay 8 BTC for 2 months of mining? I know I would not, because no part of the service provides value worth $6000 at the current exchange rates.
I am currently paying 1% and if you ask me even that is too much.

Maybe you should be solo mining instead of complaining?

M

I am not complaining, but expressing my point of view.
I would be complaining if I had no choice, which is not the case here Wink
And don't get me wrong: BTCGuild is a nice pool with good features and design. I would be most definitely mining here if it wasn't for the high fees, which in my opinion are completely unjustified.
And I fully understand the owner: why change something that is working and is making you a s**t load of money  Grin
Just make sure you don't turn into another DeepBit: it was once the #1 pool and it even managed to go beyond 50% network share at one point, but look where it is now.

Is Btcguild still the largest pool or ghash now is on pair ?
No, Ghash is the biggest. Atm 3.66PH/s vs 2.7PH/s which makes sense as Ghash.io is free + you merge mine 3 alt coins there.

where I cannot verify one of the main factors that determine how much I earn would have earned if I were to have been mining at that pool at that time.
FTFY
Knowing past "luck" tells you nothing about future "luck".

Nothing to fix. I wrote about luck in general, being a factor that determines income.

The Neptunes won't even break ROI even if you have it up and running on the first day of april.

http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/a/5789931a97

Yes, so don't buy one  Wink

I've decided not to due to the estimate difficulty of when the Neptunes will finally arrive to the public, it would not be worth it for me to mine BTC with them. If it won't break ROI or barely go above ROI then it is not worth to buy 3 of them since I would just be increasing my loss.

Exactly. 845 billion difficulty in March 2015 is going to be a bitch Wink
That's 1.2 million 5TH/s miners. Amazing times ahead of us.
528  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [2400 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: December 31, 2013, 12:00:36 AM
They do chart it on the site.  I could try to snag the value from that but it would be easier through the API.

Anyone know if it is possible to get or calculate the PPLNS Pool Luck via the API?

I spoke with eleuthria and the local math wizard organofcorti and they both confirmed there is no easy way to precisely confirm the pool luck, which is a deal braker for me.
I guess it is just a psychological barrier for me to join a pool, where I cannot verify one of the main factors that determine how much I earn.

I would love to see a page with proofs of work for each block. Then it would be easy to calculate luck.

at BTCGuild i get best payoff for my hasing power. not sure why, but it beats other pools.

good fee rate

I would disagree only on this one. I find the 3% fee disproportionately high to what the pool offers.
And the higher the hashrate you have the more disproportionate it is.
For someone who is making 1BTC a month that might be OK, but for people who mine 100BTC monthly I see no real reason why this service should cost them 3BTC.
Pool luck is irrelevant as it is in no way controlled by the owner, so please do not use it as a reason to justify the fee.

Does anyone know of any other btc mining pool that does pay for orphan blocks and transfer fees back to the miners?

Just asking.

Icon

Only Deepbit (3% prop) and BitMinter (if you pay at least a 2.5% fee).

If you want the same features, BitMinter is the same fee (Orphans+Idle Warnings require a 2% "donation" on top of the 1% fee).  Slush is effectively higher fee (orphaned blocks + namecoins are worth much more than the 1% fee difference).  Leaving you with Eligius and GHash.io as your only alternatives if you don't want to deal with extremely small pools.

EDIT:  Forgot Deepbit doesn't pay transaction fees.

I don't think the main idea behind the 1.5% perk is to get paid for the orphaned block. If it was nobody would have paid the fee because for the last 1600 blocks there were only 3 orphaned. That's only 0.1875%
I know I don't pay it, because I am OK with waiting 120 confirmations for a new block.

Status update for the refund on one of my three Neptunes:

  • 12/29 - 11:06pm ET: Sent email to sales@kncminer.com asking for refund
  • 12/29 - 11:06pm ET: Automated response confirming my request was received
  • 12/30 - 8:37AM ET: Kurt from KnC tells me that my order has been canceled as requested and he asks for my wire transfer info
  • 12/30 - 8:49AM ET: I respond to Kurt's request with my info and inquire about whether I can be refunded in the equivalent amount of bitcoin instead
  • 12/30 - 9:21AM ET: Kurt responds to confirm that the refund has been initiated to my bank account and that they do not offer refunds in bitcoin

I have no idea if/when the next sale for Jupiters may be, but it looks like the refund process is extremely quick! I'll update once more when I see the money in my bank account.

I sent an email on 26th to get an RMA for 2 damaged coolers and still nothing. It was a reply to an email that said: If you wish to return the damaged cooler then we can provide you with an RMA number and send a replacement.
Also on the 4th December I sent an email to Sam and nothing.
Maybe you are emailing the wrong department?...    customerservice@kncminer.com
I get quick responses there.

I have always emailed support@kncminer.com and it always works. They will probably reply after the holidays. I am not in a hurry anyway.

these btc adress

and i bet you that

when hashfast will  start sending the miners
that adress will be mining with less power

Dude, read back in the thread instead of pulling speculations out of your ass. That address was confirmed by the pool operator to belong to someone OTHER THAN hashfast.

You expect too much of him. He can't write properly, so what makes you think he can read properly?

ALWAYS BET ON iCE...

Since you like to bet, how about accepting mine?

I have 5 BTC that says HashFast will not ship a working miner containing Golden Nonce chips to even one customer in 2013.  (It has to be physical delivery.  Hosting doesn't count.)

Care to put up 5 BTC of your own against that?

I think I love you bogart.

I accepted Bogart's bet, on his conditions (ckolivas doesn't count) and even offered to double the stakes.

He has yet to respond.  I wonder why?

Your acceptance is acknowledged.  I didn't see your response at first since it came some days later and I don't frequent this thread.

No thanks on the doubled stakes.  I'd rather not tie up that much BTC.

Bogart - Icebreaker bet
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=262052.msg4098324;topicseen#msg4098324

He shoulda doubled!

It won't matter, because Icebraker would not man up and pay, but just disappear like all the other shills.

CYPER is not using btcguild. He's just being a troll.

I've heard he's a big Deepbit fan.

I used to to be back in 2011 when I mined there.
I have never imagined that one day I will have almost 4 times the hashrate of DeepBit  Grin
540  Economy / Marketplace / Re: FREE 240 Gh Hashing when ordering a KnC Neptune on: December 28, 2013, 06:49:42 AM
Anyone been in contact with Wesly?

I sent him 2 PM's but no response and he has been online a few times since his last post (9th December).

Any response?
I'd like to know that he's still alive, and intend to keep his word.

No. Let's give the guy some time - it's the holiday season.

If he doesn't show up there is plenty of time to change the reseller info on your account.
