521  Other / Off-topic / Re: I know there is no such thing as 'free energy' but what if it was possible? on: October 06, 2014, 08:42:10 PM
For thousands of years people are interested on free energy. For thousands of years people prefer to listen to or read books/blogs from scammers instead of at least read a serious book first and then the scam one.

I cant believe that in 21st century people can tell apart between "finite" energy like sun's energy and "free" energy.

And for fuck sake's enough with the damn magnets. I know that are interesting and shit but come on. Try something different. Its so 18th century... In fact there is some talking about second law of thermodynamics being violated in some really strange quantum effects but thats philosophy and probably wrong. For now we dont have anything even close to even consider it. And sure it is not going to be fucking magnets! Try something new!

Here take this and thank me later: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1HqOEbq2L4

oh and posting videos from youtube with a motor running isnt proof. Ever heard of the mechanical Turk btw? All it takes is two wires powering that motor which they dont let you see in the video. I can show you people levitate and zombies playing playstation.

And finally about the conspiracists,

IF FREE ENERGY DID EXIST THE GOVERMENT/REPTILIANS/OIL COMPANIES/ALIENS WOULD JUST SELL YOU THAT FREE ENERGY! MAYBE THEY WOULD HOARD THE PARTS FOR IT AND SELL IT TO YOU AT 1000 TIMES THE PRICE. DO YOU THINK THAT THEY ARE RETARDED PAYING FOR OIL EXTRACTION WHEN THEY CAN HAVE FREE ENERGY TO SELL YOU?

EDIT: The quote was by mistake

Ebola is spread by monkeys and bats. Don't think it causes a real threat to the western world.

Ebola starts from bats but when it is in humans it spreads extremely easily from human to human.

I have some questions after reading the infographic. Its a bit difficult to read everything on this thread right now.

First of all about the RSA UFOs. I am sure many people have already asked about this already. So to my understanding the problem with those is that people will have to trust that the keys have been destroyed after launch because if they havent one can mint as many coins as he likes without anyone even knowing. So the proposal is that there isnt only one key but many given to a few persons and we have to trust than at least one of them will delete his key. In any case the anonymity is not compromised.

Is what i am talking about correct or i miss something? Also who are the people that will be given the keys? How many? And when this will happen, is there a date for that? Will it be public or something?

Now about mining, i understand that the algo will change to AuxPoW and the coin will be merged mined with other coins with 5 different algos. SHA256,  Scrypt, Skein, CryptoNight and Primecoin's algo.

I am not familiar with what AuxPoW is so i want to ask how does this work? Any link so i can read about it? And when will this algo change take place?

When does Zerocoin goes live? Is there a set date for that?

I am a holding Monero. You say that Cryptonote is actually mixing and eventually someone will be able to link transactions. Is this proven or is it under certain situations or something? I know that coinjoin is easy to track but i havent heard the same about cryptonote. Where can i read more about this. I am not the best guy when it comes to cryptography though Tongue

Thanks a lot.

P.S. I just saw in the infographic that you say ETA needs update.

I haven't in this recent dump, but if it gets too low I might be forced to despite I have not that much desire to accumulate too large bag. I prefer others also buying, not me alone.  Grin
But you are right, recently I haven't been buying, I am neutral in my own position (no sell no buy).

I would give more emphasis to the term 'cheap' to be honest.

However in case Monero it has affected the price stability which lack the most coins.

However, I agree with the "FUD" you posted here about monero.

I own a significiant stash Monero.
My strategy to accumulate more Moneros is to tell other competitors how the price might drop after a long decline. When they are frozen, I will scoop some cheap coins.  Grin
Call me a scammer but I am never lying when I open my mouth about Monero.
When I want the price down, I will start speaking all the shortcomings of this coin which in my heart I know is the only alt that has true value.  Roll Eyes

Now can we all discuss how to fund the team? Smiley

That discussion is close to the hearts of the Monero Economic Group.  Have you joined?

I will soon Wink

Certainly yes. I remind that there is no immediate funding crisis. The work is getting done and the team remains, for the time being, comfortable with subsidizing the project with our own time and money.

So fix it yes, but don't panic.

Good to know because it felt for a moment that we were panicking indeed Tongue

The only moves that I will commend with regards to emission are that if you don't like the emission, either fork and try to get people to use your fork or to just create a merge mined coin with a longer emission.

Just to be clear, that means that emission will remain like it is except obviously for what to decide for the final years OR that in case emission is changed we can always fork it and do whatever we want?

Oh, sorry, I meant with regard to increasing inflation dramatically at the current time, not the perpetual inflation at year 10 as discussed a long, long time ago and which was generally well received by the community. This I am strongly in support of, but a lot of my support for this is in the anticipation that it will secure the network perpetually.

Nice! Smiley

@smooth and others,

Before the BCX episode we had a lengthy exchange on the subject of funding. I suggested (and others agreed) that before more extreme measures are deployed, we will attempt to crowdfund. I agree that donations in this form do not work out. I also agree that riding on transaction fees is a small amount. I have asked for that goddamn spreadsheet that takes little time and effort to make and it seems to me you just don't like the idea but don't want to say so out front.

My point was (and still is) that even regular donations would be more successful if there was some TRANSPARENCY on where the funds went and will go in the future. You countered that exposes you and the recipients to legal risk. Well, given that the community trusts (and has to trust) you already, the spendings do not need to be verifiable. And i can't believe that a simple explanation like amount x to hosting, amount y to developers, amount z to security/crypto experts really exposes you so much.

There are two main ways to crowdfund and both can be employed at the same time. Kickstarter for fiat and larger exposure, Anon's escrow for cryptos. It doesn't even have to be the core who organizes it (after all fundraising is really MEW's cup of tea).

Barring this, you can notice very strong opinions for and against the post-mine, for and against the miner fee, for and against changing the emission curve. I am not debating them, but it should be obvious to all by now they are very controversial and all damage trust in one way or another.

So why not just fucking do the noncontroversial stuff first? It was also semidecided that a month is sufficient time for the fundraise.

Seriously, what am I missing?

I agree with that idea. What is the thinking against crowdfunding?
532  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 25, 2014, 09:38:21 PM
A post mine is completely out of the question in my book.

Jesus. This isn't the USD where the government just tries to solve it's problems by printing more money. I mean wtf.

The only option is to change the emission schedule.

What is the problem with price going down for now until more adoption? If the coin is legit it will succeed. As i said if someone believes that the price will fall then sell now buy back later.
533  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 25, 2014, 08:52:01 PM

What we see now is the lack of capability of absorbing the coins (the price is declining slowly).

If it is declining sell now and buy back later. In order for the price to go up we need bigger community and more places to actually spend the coins. We dont need forced slower emission.

And price isnt really declining because of the emission.
We need better optimized miners and without the 5% fee. This will reduce dumps and bring more miners.
Price felt because bitcoin also felt and we know that we are far from being independent from btc price.
Price took a hit because of the alleged attack. There was a shitstorm of FUD. People still arent sure if a bug existed or not, if there is an ongoing attack or not, if BCX can do what he claimed or not.

We need more adoption. And adoption wont come because someone on trollbox said that monero is best coin ever. Actually these days coins must start thinking about adoption outside of bitcointalk forums.

The fact that it is cheap for more time  because of high emission is good. And it is not too cheap either. There is time for more people to get involved. We should be probably asking people to mine the coin. And keep what they get for some months.

Just hours from doom. Do you hold or dump?  Huh

At least if you dump you'll still have some btc.. If you dont and doom comes those XMR coins will be worth zero!

It's an easy play for most.....

Sadly the sheep will lose the most though.

Nobody cares about stealthcoin dude. At least if we lose our BTC it would be for a legit coin. Not p&d scam.

You are a scammer. You take peoples money, invest them on the totally legit x10 per day investment and then you pay your investors just the x2.
