5321  Other / Meta / Have you noticed many newbies/junior members opening threads lately? on: July 09, 2021, 06:59:49 AM
I don't know if it's just my impression or what. And I don't know if it's just a coincidence. What is clear is that if you open threads (if they don't suck) it's easier to get merits. I don't know if they know it and that's why.
5322  Economy / Economics / Re: Is the Bitcoin Giant Whale worthy of our respect? on: July 09, 2021, 06:56:08 AM
It is clear that there will be people and especially institutions that will end up owning a large part of the Bitcoin pie, as is already the case. Seeing this we can enter into the victimhood discourse that the rich are getting richer and richer and we can do nothing but wait for the government to save us, which it never does, or find a way to accumulate a respectable amount of Bitcoin.
5323  Economy / Economics / Re: The first rule of investing is saving on: July 09, 2021, 05:51:08 AM
What happens is that there are a few authors like Kiyosaki and others who tell you that it is not worth saving fiat currency, but to get into debt. I am not saying that this is ideal for everyone, but it is another point of view. For them, investing means going into debt, rather than saving.
5324  Economy / Speculation / Re: Short positions in bitcoin rose 4136 BTC in the last 4 hours on: July 08, 2021, 10:13:17 AM
Just a bunch of whales constantly shorting whilst we’re in a tight range on low volume. The short, take profits, remove shorts, rinse & repeat. It’s very frustrating but it’s just so easy for them at the moment.

When the price of Bitcoin went through the roof, shorts went out the window. It's just as easy for them to make money now as it is for them to lose money the moment it goes up. If the fundamentals are strong, shorts can't drive the price down in the long run.
5325  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you use deodorant? on: July 08, 2021, 05:47:47 AM
I generally use commercial deodorants, like Axe and stuff. Every day. If I shower twice because it's summer and I've been exercising, for example, then twice I put on deodorant.

Since I am interested in natural medicine, I had also heard the theory mentioned that deodorants can cause long-term effects in some people. So some time ago I also bought potassium aluminum. But it is not as potent. I use it once in a while. Mostly when I shave my armpits, once a week or so, because in theory freshly shaved the toxic ingredients get in easier.

5326  Other / Off-topic / Re: Microsoft Issues Warning: Update Your Windows PC Immediately on: July 08, 2021, 05:40:02 AM
Isn't there supposed to be a warning on the computer? It sounds to me that some previous time it was like that. Or at least that they send you an email. I haven't seen anything on my computers at the moment.
5327  Economy / Economics / Re: Cryptocurrency is the biggest investment opportunity in the future on: July 08, 2021, 05:36:13 AM
I don't think so, the biggest opportunity for a cryptocurrency as an investment wad back when the prices were still good enough that you can buy around 5 dollars a pop not this one although it's still a good opportunity, it's not the same as the last time because you have to spend more and get less in the process although if you believe in the potential, you will know for sure that your investment in that particular cryptocurrency is going to go up in long-term.

I think cryptocurrency is the biggest investment opportunity at present. It may have been the best investment in the past and will continue to be so in the future, but I think as for Bitcoin we will pass $100k this cycle and $1M next cycle. Global adoption is still starting. There will also be shitcoins that will give spectacular returns. I don't see any other financial asset that is going to give those returns, as there hasn't been in the last 10 years.
5328  Other / Politics & Society / Re: We Have Passed the Thousand Deaths by Vaccine Per Month on: July 07, 2021, 11:24:44 AM
Vaccine death numbers rising fast
This is baseless nonsense. The trends in the data following vaccination are perfectly clear. Consider the second and third waves in the UK.
Second wave is before the vaccination programme started. Third wave is now, with fairly high vaccination levels.

Without going so much into the data, I don't know of anyone who has died in the last few months. And everyone around me has been vaccinated. If millions were dying from the vaccine, it couldn't be hidden.

In another post I already put that historically the harmful effects of vaccines have appeared within a few days to a couple of months. Israel started mass vaccination in December and the rest of the countries shortly after.

In this forum it has been said that millions were dying from the vaccine months ago.

I was skeptical about vaccines at first but some of you are embarrassing.

And I have been vaccinated, by the way. I'll let you know when I die.
5329  Other / Off-topic / Re: What do you call Betting in your culture? on: July 07, 2021, 10:43:07 AM
What I've heard the most is that the game is a bad habit. There are people who have ended up ruined by gambling, though they are far from the norm, and I tend to believe that those people, even if the game didn't exist, would have ruined their lives otherwise. In other words, gambling problems are a symptom, not the cause.
5330  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Spain drafts bill: "authorities can temporarily requisition all types of assets" on: July 07, 2021, 10:26:24 AM
The problem I see with this bill is what it could lead to.

If you trust your politicians, you will think that they will only use laws like this if absolutely necessary, requisitioning the minimum and imposing the minimum of obligations. I just don't trust politicians. And AFAIK in Spain a coalition of socialists and communists governs, which historically have not been characterized precisely by intervening little in the lives of citizens.

5331  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as a ESO (Employee Stock Option) on: July 07, 2021, 07:12:21 AM
That news is from February, and there's not much else around the web. Things like this may help popularize Bitcoin but I agree with the rest that I wouldn't take it either, as it is a financial derivative. For that I'd give me the money and buy Bitcoin myself. Maybe a clueless employee will take the option, but I don't think it will be very popular.

The bad news is that if Bitcoin ends up being massively adopted, a whole series of derivatives like this one will emerge that go against the very philosophy of Bitcoin.
5332  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will the next economic crisis in the world instead cause financial inflows into on: July 07, 2021, 05:59:20 AM
I believe that if the next economic crisis comes soon, the same thing that happened in March 2020 with the COVID would happen: people got scared and started selling massively to obtain liquidity. This affected all assets, Bitcoin included, and I think that's what would happen now. Another thing would be if it takes a bit longer to happen and Bitcoin is more clearly established as a store of value. In that case I think it would happen like it used to happen in the old days during economic crises with gold, people would buy gold to protect their wealth.

5333  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Graphene Poison in Meat, in Masks, in the Vaccines = Magnetic People on: July 06, 2021, 10:49:31 AM
Some people just put interesting information out there for discussion, and to see who has rational arguments.  Or to see who has arguments which were clearly canned in a what certain packing plant.  It's also interesting to see what different people consider 'real facts.'

This 'old school' concept is lost to the modern world, apparently, but it is actually possible to analyze and discuss information that one neither agrees nor disagrees with.  Shocking!  I suspect it was no accident that this idea is allergic to most, and indeed was a result of careful planning in designing modern curriculum for use in almost all institutions 'certified' by the state.

I would submit that if the only thing which is allowed for discussion are 'known facts', then almost all forward progress an almost any front will grind to a halt (in addition to making the world a very boring place.)  Again, I doubt that it is an accident that this is the accepted norm here in 2021.

That's all well and good, but it's one thing to have reasonable doubts about official versions of events and another to repeatedly post bullshit. I wasn't thinking of you as much as the thread opener.
5334  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are you a gambler? on: July 06, 2021, 10:22:46 AM
There are a lot of people posting here. In most of threads related to sportsbetting, most user just discuss about the match, how player performed, how they could perform etc but very few person discuss about odds, chances of winning a team and other factors related to bet.
Is it possible that most people only discuss here to fulfill their signature requirement? In my case, I don’t play games at casino. I used to play back in the day but not anymore while I'm still having sportsbet on most of the matches.
Be honest and share about you whether you post only for your signature requirement or you post because you are involved in gambling & you want to know or share knowledge.

In my case I'm not a gambler, and I only post here from time to time. I charge extra for writing up to 15 posts in this section and last week I only wrote 1. However, I play poker regularly, and sometimes I have played casino games but I don't usually do it because they are EV-.

I only write if I find something relevant to say or share my experience as in this case, but it is noticeable that in this section many people post to meet requirements.

5335  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Graphene Poison in Meat, in Masks, in the Vaccines = Magnetic People on: July 06, 2021, 10:12:12 AM
Some people appear to believe all of it, unquestioningly...

Some people believe in certain things in the same way they believe in God. It is a matter of faith. Then they look for arguments to justify them and when reality does not coincide with what they previously thought, they either ignore reality or they look for arguments to make what they think compatible with what happens.
It seems that with rational arguments based on real facts you are not going to convince them.
5336  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the practical value of Bitcoin on: July 06, 2021, 10:02:54 AM
But many people who just know Bitcoin will pay more attention to its practical value, so what is the practical value of Bitcoin?

I think you have invented the concept. In economics and investment there is the concept of fair value, objective value and the like. But there is no such thing as practical value.

If you are referring to fair value, there is a theory that one thing is the intrinsic value of financial assets and another is the price fluctuations that usually differ from fair value. If you want to see something similar applied to Bitcoin, an example would be the S2F model, which predicts prices based on supply but now for example assigns a "target" value higher than the current price.

5337  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin brings us true freedom of thought on: July 06, 2021, 08:28:42 AM
~
It is sad that most people tend to just buy Bitcoin for quick profits,

Let alone if there are people who use Bitcoin to get a quick profit, that's how they know Bitcoin.

I can agree that quick in terms of profits is not the healthiest thing to do, but if it were not for the profits, nobody would know about Bitcoin today. Then it happens to many that after getting interested in Bitcoin because of the profits, they start to learn about it and then they learn about its properties, etc. Although there are people who do not bother.
5338  Other / Politics & Society / Re: On Mozart, Amadeus (1984), Murray Abraham and leaving long lasting social memory on: July 06, 2021, 05:44:46 AM
In the movie, Salieri has a mix of envy/hate and profound admiration for Mozart. In this memorable scene, he realizes the true genius of Mozart. You can watch it here (not a good quality)

I quite liked that movie. Salieri is the academic, the one who composes following all the steps, while Mozart is the creative one, who is able to compose a symphony in a moment, after coming from a party.

The play writer (also author of the 1979 play that inspired the movie), Peter Shaffer, did not do justice to Mozart, retracting him as a ridiculous person.

I don't see it that way.

As someone wrote, most of us live hoping to become a memory…

In a couple of million years, which is also not that long in universal time, practically no one will be a memory. Some will be remembered until a few generations later, but the more time passes, the less they will be remembered.

5339  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I owe Michael Saylor an Apology.. on: July 06, 2021, 05:34:28 AM
He also invested in Apple and other tech with arguments similar to those he uses with Bitcoin. This is not to say that he will always be right but he seems to have a good eye for technological changes in the world and how they will make certain financial assets behave.

I still heavily disagree with him saying that people should go all in on bitcoin though.

I think the same. And I think it's one thing that Frank Giustra was able to explain very well in the Bitcoin vs Gold debate.
5340  Economy / Economics / Re: Vietnam Becomes Latest Country to Turn to Crypto on: July 05, 2021, 10:26:55 AM
When I saw the title, I was sure that this was another piece of fake news. And I was not disappointed. The Vietnamese government is proposing to create a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), similar to the digital Yuan (e-CNY) of China. It is just a digital version of the national currency (Vietnamese Dong ₫). And actually I am worried that the government's attitude towards proper cryptocurrency may become even more hostile. This is what happened in China, after they listed the CBDC shitcoin. The Chinese government now want to eradicate the competition, by banning BTC.

Yeah, I thought the same.

It is in line with other central banks in creating centralized state-owned cryptocurrencies. The same old crap but digital. The only good thing I see in this is that people will not see Bitcoin as weird when they are used to pay with their fiat cryptocurrency.
