541  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HODL!! the origin story on: December 28, 2023, 06:20:37 AM
~snipped~
Now I think you are starting to get me confused because the original thread itself on the forum here shows 18 December 2013...
Oops! My bad. Sorry, that was a regrettable typo on my part. I posted without running through it as I must've been dizzy or something while making that post. Yes, the dateline was 2013.
542  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HODL!! the origin story on: December 28, 2023, 03:32:21 AM
I have later found some documentary on X app TWITTER UPDATE about this trend and it's even more popular as this halving is drawing near and investors are all hyped up due to the speculated bull season that comes with or after the halving.
That terminology emanated in 2013, a halving year, and under a tipsy circumstance. Most of us know the story and so I won't go into all that. However, my observation in what happened then, in 2020 and now is that there seems to be much excitement and noise from crypto loving people during halving years. I guess it's so as there's often an expectation that portfolios which have gone near comatose would be revived and new investments (both in Bitcoin and alts) get nice ROIs.

545  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Anyone can succeed as a bitcoin trader on: December 26, 2023, 09:13:22 PM
Knowing how to trade would only get you that far, but not j to the realm of successful traders..
Your comment there seemed contradictory. How can someone who knows how to trade not be classified as being a successful trader?

Quote
Don't limit yourself to just being passionate about bitcoin. Start something with the knowledge.
This is likened to being theoritical than practical. Anyone here who knows their worth on things concerning Bitcoin shouldn't fold their arms and not hodl Bitcoin. They shouldn't sing without dancing. Have the knowledge and put it to use. There are many here who are guilty of this. They like to sound knowing but are too scared to taste what they preach.
546  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Unknown fact our profitable colleagues won't tell us on: December 26, 2023, 06:59:50 PM
That's what the profitable traders do, no one has a crystal balls,  everyone do experience some losses...
In fact, that's a very easy way of catching who isn't a trader but claims they're. Anyone who tells you they don't lose trades just know they're lying. Every professional trader you see now do experience moment of loss too. What makes someone a profitable trader isn't because they don't lose trades but because they have short or small loses with long and big wins. That's the only way they will remain profitable. In trading, no one holds the holy grail. We're all speculators. If anyone were sure where the marked is accurately headed every time, they would be very rich overnight.
547  Other / Meta / Re: Forum growth on: December 26, 2023, 06:39:14 PM
Why can't there be like a jackpot lottery for the forum every year and anyone who participate can win is something like that possible?
I know there used to be giveaway threads but I don't know if they're still operational till date. Taking about winning, if everyone who participates wins something; then there's no fun to it. What makes games exciting is the suspense they create around who's going to win. Anyway, your suggestion is a noble one. You can implement it yourself by organizing it and calling the shots. You don't have to pass off the idea.
548  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Advice for crypto bigginers who like chasing the next big thing in crypto. on: December 26, 2023, 05:05:52 PM
Hundred of BRC20 are now been printed everyday now, be careful fellas, as it's now a target for scammers, they have abandoned other hypes for Bitcoin BRC20, don't go and start buying any BRC20 that haven't pump yet with the hope that it will.
There's a new trend already in town called DRC20. These are cryptos built on the Dogecoin chain where people have the ability to mint their own cryptos. Surprisingly, many of those minted tokens on that chain are selling like wildfire. It's a very risky enterprise, though. I read of a dude who turned $2 to $84+ in less than 24hrs. No, it wasn't futures trading. It was just a spot trade. The ROI there is crazy. As enticing as it's, I don't advise noob traders or greenhorns in this space to try such type of investment. No one knows what the fate of such will be once the breeze of this bull rally subsides. Newbies, please keep your risk appetite low and stick mainly to Bitcoin investment. At least at a time like now.
549  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading is hard!!! on: December 26, 2023, 04:26:41 PM
Trading is indeed hard and should be taken seriously, it take years before you actually win in trading using your own strategy. I also don’t know why there’s a hype about trading especially claiming that its easy to make profit here.
Yes, it's not supposed to be easy because it's a profession. This is the mistake many make, thinking that trading is a past time or something of leisure. No, it's not. It's serious business. It's a profession on its own like any other high paying profession. It's not less of a profession than medicine or engineering. People don't become doctors or engineers overnight. So, why should someone expect to be profitable overnight trading? Nothing good comes cheap or easy. That maxim is apt for trading.
550  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The most difficult times on: December 26, 2023, 03:43:58 PM
In every business in life, knowledge about it and what it entails to succeed is always the key.
Sadly, many a trader don't like to take the time to learn and acquire that knowledge when it comes to trading. They think trading is a shortcut to riches. Everyone goes through a period of apprenticeship to acquire knowledge, even in formal school environment but they want to jettison that as traders. The resultant effect of not taking the time to learn in trading is that those who are involved are often left with a history of several blown accounts.

Quote
Nothing good comes easy, so if we must succeed in trading even as experience as we are, we must keep on putting in the work to learn more, so that we can be a better trader and reap the rewards of our work.
Learning period is like gestation. The stress and discomfort are always there but the smiles of a safe delivery will make every ordeal disappear once a successful birth happens. It's the same thing with trading. Once one acquires the set skills and becomes profitable, all the loss of the past are recovered.
551  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How was your crypto journey this year? on: December 26, 2023, 07:23:23 AM
I'm better placed this year than I was in any other ones before it because I've gained more experience and perspective from the past. I did what I never did in the past and that was taking out a substantial amount of my savings in fiat and dropped it into Bitcoin a few weeks ago. Already, I'm close to 50% in ROI. I ain't even touching it anytime in 2024, except Bitcoin attains my expectation of $120k – $150k range for its next ATH. Anything short of that will mean to me that Bitcoin didn't perform well. I realized from experience that's it's a waste of resources to let one's fiat lay idle in banks while one can put that into Bitcoin as we approach a rally.
552  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: You only got what you deserve on: December 26, 2023, 06:21:15 AM
In cryptocurrency generally you only got what you deserve, we might complain of how bad  or the terrible experience you have had during trading or holding the wrong asset, but in reality you only got what you deserve.
I don't think early adopters of Bitcoin will agree with you on that. They got what they never expected. A lot of them just threw a few pennies into it because they weren't that intentional it would amount to anything. The rest of us are just playing catch-up now and are in expectation of what value it can bring. We're deliberate in our investment but not many have that patience of a long wait.

We should always factor in the right time of buying and hodling of Bitcoin and not always glamourise it as if there aren't those who've suffered losses investing in Bitcoin. Yes, Bitcoin remains the surest investment in this industry but losses are still there with it. Those who bought at ATH arent yet in profit (that's if they're still hodling till now).
553  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Meme Coins Question? on: December 26, 2023, 05:39:10 AM
Just a few observations:

Top 100 market cap probably won't do 10X in hours, the 100th have roughly half billion of capitalization, if you multiply by 10 it become 60th, not feasible. To reach 10X, or even 100X it is necessary get top 1000 market cap.
Your observation on that is apt. Marketcap is very important. It's the second thing I look at besides max supply of any token, that's also throwing in utility. I encourage anyone who's taking a risk with altcoins to do so. Make a calculation of what you expect, an achievable calculation, and then choose the altcoin that can fulfill that. We shouldn't be greedy in our expectations.

Quote
Those low cap coins can only be traded in DEX, get used to Uniswap and related and prepare for a lot of rug pulls.
I thinks it's more difficult getting rugpulled on ETH based projects than on BSC projects. If anyone must plunge into a risky environment like investing in newly created tokens, they should consider more of the ETH enclave projects. For me, I've paid the price of severe loss and ain't scared anymore diving into any chain to seek investment. Profit and loss are the main nature of cryptos. Anyone going into it shouldn't forget that. We shouldn't keep a one-sided mindset that we will always make profit. We should think of the possibility of loss more than we think of profit. That way, we will be prepared to invest only what we can afford to lose.
554  Other / Meta / Re: Was the forum better before without Merit or is it better now with Merit? on: December 25, 2023, 09:06:03 PM
~
When was it possible to start enroll in campaigns on the forum? Was also that a positive change? For the reason now an account can actually make move in a respected way (Post high quality posts) so it should also make the forum a bit cleaner from spam?
I checked too a few years ago when my curiosity pushed me to as finding out if the forum started hosting campaigns from its first year. Nope, it didn't. Signature campaigns weren't even a thing until around 2014 or before it (I can't be sure of what year I discovered then now). Even then, campaigns were run mostly on monthly basis and some campaigns would demand that participants reapplied once the 30 days period were over. The pay wasn't much to write home about then but that same pay now is humongous if we compare it with what value it has now. Human traffic was minimal too then. So, I think this forum grew from nothing to what it's now. I also believe that more changes also await us in future at BTT.
555  Other / Meta / Re: Do Users Own Their Posts? Is There a Compelled License for User Content? on: December 25, 2023, 07:31:00 PM
If you want to publish your open source code, do it with Github.

After your publish it on Github, you can share it on Bitcoin talk with source link to your Github account.
I think that's the best way to go about as GitHub gives a more professional content creator exposure than BTT does. Besides, it also puts it out there so other tech savvy peeps see what's up.

Quote
I am thinking that if you worry that someone steal your code, why do you want share your code publicly?
Well, you do have a point there. But of course, it could be that OP is interested in showing how transparent they're with whatever innovation they want to run by making it an open source. That's the way I see it. I may be wrong.
556  Economy / Speculation / Re: Fear of December dump is fading away - for Bitcoin on: December 25, 2023, 01:26:43 PM
What's your opinion on current Bitcoin trend, will it continue the same way or we will go through the December nightmare once again?
My observation is that this particular December has been surprising (though not to me) and we can speculate that the expectation of halving in April or in the first quarters of 2024 is what's scaring investors from dumping. If anything, there seems to be more buy than sell right now. Those who take profit now even do so to get in back at correction and not to move out. We can see the volume of trades on daily. The marketcap shows the market hasn't depleted as evident in the cash circulating within it.
557  Economy / Speculation / Re: A big buying opportunity might be on the horizon on: December 25, 2023, 12:17:33 PM
This seems great opportunity, but to be honest, we long term traders don’t exactly look for specific opportunities. For us every moment is an opportunity. Whenever possible we buy the coins irrespective of the price.
Perhaps you should've categorized the season where we can buy Bitcoin without monitoring price levels and that's in a bull season. This is because no matter where one buys, price is expected to quickly rally up even if it dips after one's purchase. We can't say the same thing when the market is in a bear season. No one wants to catch a falling knife during a bear rally and that's why everyone wants to be sure they're buying the bottom or close to it.
558  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Zugacoin vs bitcoin. on: December 25, 2023, 08:19:58 AM
Theirs no coin that can be use in comparison with bitcoin despite the speed of increment and adoption of the coin, I believe that for coin to increase it most come from the advertisement of the coin, in all the cryptocurrencies its bitcoin that is the master of any other cryptocurrencies and bitcoin doesn't have devaluation
Bitcoin is where it's because it has a very strong believing fan base and community. Even when things go awry like we've now with weeks of congestion on the blockchain and the accompanying stupendous miners' fees, the community still keeps believing all will soon be settled. Bitcoin isn't a master in this game because it offers anything special apart from its decentralization. Nothing. It's just its committed community. What other special thing can we say Bitcoin offers now? Someone should correct me if I'm off here. There are some project/tokens/coins that will face this same fate and immediately they will be abandoned. It's really frustrating to use Bitcoin ATM, especially for small spenders like us.
559  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: New Trends Among Beginner Traders on: December 25, 2023, 07:23:42 AM
I've noticed that on my WhatsApp, Telegram, Twitter, and basically all social media websites, there are so many beginner traders with no real live trading experience who should stop giving trading tips to other people rather they just put it out there for whoever cares to listen to them.
You should've also included this forum. There are so many I've seen here who don't even trade or are at best unprofitable but they give trading tips 😂. This is why we should always verify whatever anyone says here before taking it to heart.

Quote
I have engaged with a couple of them in trading conversations, and they beat around the bush, replying with generic responses without any real experience.
I've encountered many like that too. Sometimes, someone close to me who knows I'm in this industry tells me about people they think are also crypto investors only for me to discover that they know nearly next to nothing in crypto apart from some mining apps they're going through on their phones. In most cases, these people don't even have a single satoshi to their name. It ludicrous.
