561  Other / Meta / Re: Post/Thread Writing With AI - For Faster Signature Campaign Rewards - Easy & Fun on: October 20, 2023, 07:16:26 PM
I strongly disagree. Forums should be about real conversations between real people. Thats when you get the good discussion, not from some AI trying to sound like a real person. Besides that, AI could clutter everything up with pointless or spammy posts, making it harder to find good and relevant info. So I do not think having AI write posts is a good idea for Bitcointalk or other forums like it.

But Im sure Joeyp already knows that and it is already becoming clear that whoever is using that account just wants to troll the forum.
562  Economy / Exchanges / Re: i need sites or apps to lock my usdt and xrp on: October 19, 2023, 09:31:04 PM
Im not so sure locking up your coins is the best idea.  That seems kinda risky to me and  committing to not being able to unlock your coins until some set time in the future is a big commitment.  OP, what is your reasoning behind this? Are you just looking to invest long-term, or is there another specific reason you want to lock up your coins like that?

Either way, it seems like a pretty bold move to me, locking up your money on a centralized service and throwing away the key for so long. But thats just me - maybe you have got good reasons for wanting to go that route that Im just not thinking of.
563  Economy / Reputation / Re: Newbie With First Thread Promoting Trust Wallet - How Much Trust Wallet Pay ? on: October 19, 2023, 08:53:26 PM
I think examplens makes a fair point here.  I also do not really see that thread as just a blatant promotion for TrustWallet. Maybe the person who started the thread had some other motive that wasnt totally obvious.  I cant say for sure either way, but its possible.

To be honest, I was really hoping that lightlord would choose a different route this time, and go for better quality posters and more reputable members, but unfortunately he stuck with the same campaign format as before. Undoubtedly, the only members that a campaign like this will attract are shitposters from Altcoins boards and members who dont have the quality to participate in higher paying campaigns.

Increased the payments a bit, almost 60% more for Hero in Tier A, and bumped up all the other tiers about 20%-50% based upon the rank, and a rule was added in as well to encourage better quality posting for higher tier ranking.

Im all for this change - it is definitely a step in the right direction.  Even though 60 posts per week is still a lot more than most members here usually write, I bet some people will want to max out earnings by hitting that limit each week.  Hopefully the manager can handle it so your campaign doesn't end up feeling spammy.  Spam benefits no one.  But overall this is an improvement and Im glad to see it.
567  Economy / Gambling / Re: ▄■▀■▄ 🌟BITVEST.io🌟 💰WIN BY 🔶PLAY 📈INVEST➡🔺🎲🎰🔲 | BET CONTEST ▄■▀■▄ on: October 17, 2023, 10:25:09 PM
Finally, the campaign thread launched, hope it will bring back the name of Bitvest for old members, and also a lot of newbies who might not have heard it yet will get to know it. And still, the old tier structure with low pay. Honestly, I expected a change due to the current competitive nature of the gambling industry but Lightlord seems to stick with the old ways.

We don't have to discuss how many casinos he wants to run, and devans successfully runs two sites too but each site has only one game that's the difference.
I was honestly expecting the same as well, that is, something different and more Morden and in line with the way other campaign are being runed, but Lightlord and the campaign manager decided to stick with the old way they ran the campaign before.
Well, nothing wrong, Afterall, there is no set rules as to what a campaign should or can pay their participants, and again, no matter how much a campaign decides to pay their potential participants, there will always be some users applying to join it, example of this can already be seen on the bitvest signature campaign thread, the thread in just few hours of launching already have thousands of views with up to five pages filled with applications from potential participants, so clearly, users interested to join the campaign is still high regardless that the pay is low, not everyone here really cares about how much they earn from the forum.
When i saw the signature campaign announcement thread in the service section,  it was after that that i went to check for the previous history of the campaign and it seems that nothing was changed the payment rates, and the campaign structure are the same and even the rules kf acceptance and the tier of payment grades.

This prompted the suspecion in me and i kind want to ask, what stopped the champagne from continuing from where it stopped and simply making progress from that point on

Probably only lightlord knows the real reason. One guess could be that the campaign was stopped a long time ago, and many old participants may no longer be active, so he wants to start fresh. Its a shame that he did not use this opportunity to make some improvements and, instead, opted for a low-quality campaign. This decision will likely result in more forum spam, which we will have to deal with.
568  Other / Meta / Re: Local China Subforums - Admin Probably Will Be Arrested And Transfered To China on: October 17, 2023, 08:40:18 PM
From China position, Taiwan is part of China.

The PRC constitution defines Taiwan as part of its territory, but Taiwan is currently administered by the Republic of China (ROC), not the PRC.
Its a complex issue, and if you are interested, you should read about it so I dont have to explain it to you. For now, it suffices to say that Taiwan has autonomy and its own laws compared to mainland China. This explains why in Taiwan there are many crypto-related businesses that operate quite legally even today, despite the Chinese ban on crypto.

Crime type - we are talking about local Chinese criminal law.[/i]

"Chinese criminal law" does not apply here. The Bitcointalk.org forum falls under US jurisdiction.
569  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: signature campaign Vs review campaign on: October 17, 2023, 07:56:49 PM
You are partially right. Review campaigns can bring more direct engagement because participants have to use the project. If its a good project, there is a good chance they will continue using it. But review campaigns are mostly short-term. They will attract a certain number of users who are interested in testing the service / product and writing a review. Signature campaigns, on the other hand, bring more visibility to the project, even outside the forum community. You are right that not all participants may use the project they promote, but that does not mean it cant attract users outside the circle of participants. I do not know where you got the information about 5%, but even if it is true, there is no doubt that signature campaigns are a good promotion for some projects, because they would not implement such a marketing campaign that has been going on for years.
570  Other / Meta / Re: Local China Subforums - Admin Probably Will Be Arrested And Transfered To China on: October 17, 2023, 07:34:34 PM
There are local China subforums in Bitcointalk and Bitcoin have total ban in China, so soon forum admin probably will be arrested and transfered to China. What you think ?

You seem confused about the difference between China as a country versus the Chinese language. A local board made for Chinese speakers does not automatically mean its just for people in China.

Chinese is a major world language with speakers way outside of China itself and is even one of the official languages of the UN, so jumping to the conclusion that a Chinese language board must be for China specifically shows a misunderstanding of how widely used the Chinese language is, separate from the country. Besides, What about Taiwan? There are tons of Chinese speakers there, and its a totally separate country from mainland China, and they do not have a ban on Bitcoin as far as I know.

Criminal charge for forum admin can depend from local Chinese criminal law. And then China as state can start to operate through direct contacts between countries.

To bring a criminal charge, you gotta have a good reason to believe they committed a criminal act. So, what kind of crime are we talking about here?
571  Other / Meta / Re: Post was deleted from local thread, what is the possible reason? on: October 15, 2023, 07:34:24 PM
I rushed to create the topic and you rushed to quote it. I consulted with the forum administrators and we decided not to allow offtopic in these topics in full. Because if there will be a lot of offtopic, these topics can turn into trash. So the holiday for spammers with offtopic is canceled. I apologize for my haste. I'm deleting my topic.

But. That doesn't mean you can't discuss anything not related to cryptocurrencies. Normal posts, not one-line spam, even if off-topic, may be allowed.

Well, that is too bad. Personally, I think that a little "off-topic" would not be harmful for local threads since they dont have dedicated boards, but I can see how it could encourage spam, so I understand the decision.  Perhaps the mods could take a more laid-back approach in the local threads and use their own judgment to find some middle ground?

I have edited my post to reduce confusion.
572  Other / Meta / Re: Post was deleted from local thread, what is the possible reason? on: October 15, 2023, 06:26:21 PM
I just noticed Xal0lex (mod) has put up a new topic in the "Other languages/locations" board, and it is related to this and explains everything. People need to stop making pointless reports.

Address to all users of the section

Edit:

I am editing the post since the topic has been removed. You can read Xal0lex's explanation below.

Hi forum people
~

Welcome to the forum, The_funnycrab

I get that the website can seem confusing at first.  It is basically an online chatroom where people talk about Bitcoin and crypto.  Theres thousands of users on here discussing about all kinds of stuff  and  I was confused too when I first found it.

But you already found the Beginners & Help section, so that is a good start.  Just check around the threads and see what people are talking about.  Reading through some of the conversations can help you learn the basics better than anything else.  This place is great for newbies who want to put in the time to understand cryptocurrencies.  As you start to get it, you can join in the talks, ask your own questions and help out others.

It just takes time and effort to wrap your head around this stuff.  But the more you learn, the more you can contribute to the community here.  Were happy to help newcomers figure it all out.
574  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What if the internet permanently shuts down on: October 15, 2023, 04:57:19 PM
It'll seem as if we've suddenly gone back to the stone age, if these where to happen.

No, we would not go back to the stone age! There were still (depending on where you live) Bronze Age, Iron Age, Medieval period, Post-Medieval period, Industrial/Modern Age... So, you could argue that we might regress to the Industrial/Modern Age, but that would not be accurate either because the knowledge would still be around. Just because something suddenly stops working does not mean we cannot rebuild it. Think of it this way, if electric cars suddenly stopped working, would that mean humans never invented the wheel?

I'll focus on finance, so I'm thinking what will happen to the bitcoin inside wallets, what will happen to every fiat currency in bank accounts, if everything erases as a result of internet total breakdown?

If the internet were to stop working globally, Bitcoin would still exist on the Blockchain in individual nodes. The nodes would temporarily lose the ability to chat with each other, but theyd still have all the data stored up. The devs would have to find a new way to establish communication again, and it doesnt necessarily have to be over the internet. As for the banks, it would be more complicated because we do not know their internal organization. Nevertheless, the databases would still be stored on the servers, but they could not make no transactions or nothing.

Who do we hold responsible? I know that the internet technology is manmade, therefore it can not be hundred percent immune to faults and external attacks. And what if there is that less than one chance of it being faulty or compromised, what if that less than one  chance happens,? what will be the fate of the world that mainly depends on it to get things done? I'm no tech guru or a prophet of doom, but this are my thoughts and fears on the matter, although I sincerely hope that I'm very wrong on these thoughts.

I'd love to be enlightened better on why it can be impossible that the internet can never be permanently shutdown, having in mind the shortcomings that I've mentioned?

What shortcomings? Well the internet is not perfect, but it is designed to be pretty resilient. Theres a crap ton of experts and smart folks out there working to keep it running. and even if there are hiccups here and there, they usually find a way to keep things going.
575  Economy / Reputation / Re: Murat Scammed 62k Metropoly token on: October 15, 2023, 01:51:46 PM
Especially since this is not the first such case, as I understand it.
You mean his getting tokens and not sending to bounty hunters or saying that tokens were escrowed while they actually weren't? Or both?

No, I meant in the sense that this is not the first case of complaints about Murat's unprofessionalism in running bounty campaigns. Badly worded.

For example, there was this case when he deleted all participants from the signature campaign after 6 weeks of promotion.  I do not recall following the case back then, and I only came across it now. But surprisingly, none of the DT members took any action, and Murat did not provide any explanation in that thread either. Imagine what would happen if that was a campaign in the Services board!

His response on TG was: "There is less than 3 legit participants and we decided to cancel the signature campaign"  Huh

Then there was the case between him and bitbollo, when he left a retaliatory negative trust just because someone dared to question his managerial abilities.

Planning to sell the token is a wrong decision. You do not decide the fate of the tokens that are not yours.

Calculate the percentage of taken from the given tokens. Ask the hunters to send the gas fees. Whoever will send the fees, give them their tokens. You need to be more active in threads like this to understand and receive suggestions from forum members.

Exactly! The token sale should not have been his decision. As for gas fees, Murat never mentioned that it was an issue. Perhaps this was agreed upon as part of the deal between him and Metropoly.
576  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Seedphrase security - Pros and Cons of offline storage on: October 14, 2023, 09:58:56 PM
Forgot to mention, I am adding an additional layer of security to my password manager setup through the use of hidden wallet passphrases.

A passphrase is any word and/or number combination you make up yourself. As long as your passphrase is stored only in your head it will be impossible for anyone to know what it is.
This is also known as a 25th word (or 13th word if using 12 word seed).

Even if someone steals your seedphrase they will not be able to access (or even see) the funds stored in your hidden wallet(s) without knowing the passphrase.

Great, so you are aware of the passphrase? In that case, your seed phrase remains secure even in physical form, and your concerns about potential theft or accidental discovery are no longer relevant.

But think about this. Storing your wallet seed online or on a device hooked up to the internet opens it up to way more security risks than keeping that seed phrase offline and physical, right? I mean, even with a passphrase for extra protection there is still a chance someone could hack into your wallet if they have the computing power, which there is definitely no shortage of these days.  It really depends how complex your passphrase is and the encryption the password manager uses.  But if you go old school and keep that seed phrase offline? The chances of it getting swiped drop big time cause theres just not as many people who could get their hands on it.

Just saying, it is something to think about if you want to keep your funds truly safe and  there is tradeoffs either way - convenience versus security.
577  Economy / Reputation / Re: Murat Scammed 62k Metropoly token on: October 14, 2023, 09:16:48 PM
I hear what you are saying, Rikafip.  Bounty hunters also responsible amd have their own their part in how busted altcoin bounty campaigns are nowadays.  But seems to me Murat messed up here. Sure, he has status as a high-ranking member with serious trust points.  If this was some noob without no rep, their profile would be red already. Especially since this is not the first such case, as I understand it.

Technically speaking, this even deserves a Type 2 Flag, since he violated the implied agreement. Least thats how I get it.

@Murat care to explain escrow situation?

He was active again today, but he is not really taking it seriously enough to provide an explanation.
578  Other / Meta / Re: Should there be sub forums under Scam Accusations? on: October 14, 2023, 08:31:14 PM
The scam accusation section is enough to report scammers in my opinion it's better to add the scam accusation at the gambling section so that whomever that wants to visit any casino or gambling site can easily finds it there and then be very cautious of the one to get started with. There are some users who doesn't discover the accusations or regularly visit there to know what casinos that has good reputation to gamble on. Additional subforum can either makes it complicated whereby there may be some section where they won't visit at all, just the above user said of the investigation board I can't remember when last I have posted there or even posted there before. Although is a nice idea anyway.

Didn't think about that.
Possibly a separate board about gambling scam accusations under gambling and all the others in a generic scam board since it does look like 75%+ of the scam complaints are about casinos.

Separating the gambling accusations from the rest of the scam accusations seems like a pretty good idea to me.  I was not around back when the board was first created, but looking at some of those old topics it definitely seems like it started off being a place for people to call out scams happening between members here on the forum.  But over time, especially once we got that whole Gambling section and tons of crypto casinos popped up everywhere it kinda shifted to be all about shady stuff those casinos are up to.  But not everybody here cares about gambling stuff.  So cleaning up the scam accusations board to just be for non-gambling scams could make things easier to follow for most folks.

Plus it will keep things more focused instead of having accusations about like a million different things all jumbled together.
579  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: You are also like them? on: October 14, 2023, 07:48:25 PM
Haha, yeah those YouTube experts crack me up too.  I wouldnt put any money on what they say either.  But not all technical analysis is like that.  There are some skilled analysts out there who actually know their stuff and dont just spout nonsense.  You just gotta dig through the goofballs to find the real deal.  Easier said than done I know... Like trying to find a diamond in a mountain of rocks.  Most of the rocks are just rocks. . .

I dont have the patience for it myself.  But for some folks sifting through all those predictions and charts is half the fun.  To each their own I guess.  Me, I just hope I can find an analyst or two I can actually trust, otherwise I would just be throwing darts blindfolded.
580  Other / Off-topic / Re: Youtube alternative supports BTC donations - FreeTube on: October 13, 2023, 09:59:57 PM
I got a frequent notification recently that the ad blocker is against the Youtube ToS thus preventing me from watching videos.
Which adblocker are you using? I am asking because I haven't seen that notification yet and I am naturally using adblocker because without them its bascially impossible to watch YouTube anymore.

I use the AdblockPlus addon on the Chrome browser, and recently, a warning popup appears before every video view. I have the Stands addon installed on another computer but have not tested if the warning appears there as well.

Since I read recently that YouTube plans do disable all addblockers and that they won't work for that purpose anymore, I will probably give this FreeTube a chance. My main problem with it (and the reason i haven't tried it so far) is that you have to install an app in order to use it, instead just having a browser version.

You can check out the Ividius project. It is an open-source alternative front-end to YouTube. There are many instances available for free use, both on the clearnet and on the Tor network: https://docs.invidious.io/instances/ Although, For those who want full privacy, I suggest the self-hosted version.
