61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Came Back After a Year on: October 13, 2019, 01:33:24 PM
Hey, Guys, I am jak3, I came back after 1year. (i barely visited this forum in this 1year) but I remember when I left this forum there was a lot of bitcoin campaigns and a lot of discussion topics. But nowadays people are only talking about altcoins. Can you guys tell me what I am missing till now or what exactly did happen under this 1year? I do have some idea about merits thought. Hope I can get a grip back into the discussions.

Ironically, i'm also back after a years hiatus and if before there were a lot of altcoin campaigns, not it's mostly all about Bitcoin. If i had to guess this is because of all the altcoin scams that happened back in 2017, which is coincidentally the same reason why i left these forums for a year. On my end, hopefully i can get over the altcoin losses and focus now on bitcoin and it's dominance.
62  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: how much etherium can 5 cards of 30 mh/s can make per month ? on: October 12, 2019, 06:44:38 AM
Its very rare for a mining rig to burn a house down, especially end up killing someone while they sleep. You need to be reasonable.

-snip-

So as you can see, usually the rig will power off when there is an issue. And most people if not everybody due to fire codes needs a smoke detector in their place. So if a mining rig actually starts a fire, the smoke detector will wake you up and you can either put the  fire off yourself or just run outside.

But I agree with you, for little profit sometimes its best to just sell the GPU rather than deal with the headaches of when they crash in the middle of the night and you have to reboot them.

It maybe safe in the 1st world fire-alam ridden countries you live in, but in different part of the world, houses and homes rarely have fire any alarms. What exists in these parts of the world are fire hydrants at the most (probably because fire alarms add up to additional electricity costs). So the threat of fire from mining rigs is a real thing.

I also agree that mining rigs are better off sold if the profit is too low. Don't just count on the calculators to project monthly profit it's important to consider down-time, freezes, and restarts that use up electricity even when not mining.
63  Economy / Economics / Re: Will Africa be a good place for crypto? on: October 12, 2019, 06:29:55 AM
Africa is a great candidate for crypto payments. I believe 3rd world countries are great in general because of the lack of established IT network infrastructure. The decentralized nature of crypto can really help by reducing the need for IT investments from the government.

I believe crypto can do Africa good.
64  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bittrex closing late Oct? Does anyone know more? See article. on: October 12, 2019, 05:50:47 AM

Based on my understanding of that article, it's not that Bittrex itself is closing, there will still be an online digital exchange called Bittrex. It seems that its just that they are changing the name of their officially registered company name from Bittrex Internation to Bittrex Global.

Also seems like all customers need to do is just sign up for the new platform once available.
65  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: SC good to invest ? on: October 12, 2019, 05:43:17 AM
Seems like Siacoin is on the rise again. Revival of the coin is probably because of the news that it's about to newly listed on the Kraken exchange. Although siacoin value is down to 10% of its original value back in 2017, seems this coin is not yet dead.

I've been looking at it's blog and they seem to pump out updates on a monthly basis. Their competitor STORJ is doing much better tho, they have a working Windows app.
66  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CPU miner on: October 12, 2019, 05:22:13 AM
Hello,

Any one here having CPU or ASIC miner, i forked a coin from Litecoin. Need to mine few blocks for testing purpose.

Can any body help me, i will provide the coin wallet win and Ubuntu 16, 64 bit daemon.

Thanks.

Are you providing compensation? It seems like helping you can be a time consuming effort.

You are probably using a CPU to type your post, you can use that to mine your own coin. With new coins difficulty can surely adjusted to the hash power of miners. How familiar are you with setting up nodes and mining?
67  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is happening to new projects? on: October 12, 2019, 03:55:09 AM
What the *eck is going on? we have many good projects coming into crypto space but they mostly end up failing, too many good new projects are dying as if they are been created to just die, what do you think its killing new good projects apart from scam projects?

What makes you say a project is good? By definition if it was actually good, then it would probably not fail. Most likely, it is failing probably because the project doesn't have real world purpose or has been abandoned by profiteering developers.

Aside from this, i don't think altcoins that have ICOs are good projects at all because an ICO seems like such a scammy way to get funding. If it had a real purpose and value in this world then VC capitalists would easily pick it up and fund it as a startup.
68  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: choose forex trading or crypto trading..? on: October 12, 2019, 02:23:20 AM
before getting to know cyrpto I was involved in forex trading, then I switched to crypto trading, I think it's the same as forex trading turns out different, crypto is more difficult to predict and the movements are often irregular, for those of you who trade forex, it's more convenient forex or crypto,?
if I personally prefer analyzing in forex trading, but in the trading system it prefers crypto trading, I hope someday the crypto exchange will include various national currencies, so it not only provides crypto exchange but also exchange money between countries.

Crypto is much more fun to trade because of all the volatility and it's 24/7 nature. Unlike stocks which only trade 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, and no holidays, crypto is a different beast which can make you rich beyond your dreams, or can grind your portfolio to dust.

So for me, it's much more convenient to trade forex because of the stability and pace, however, it's hella more fun to risk trading in crypto.
69  Economy / Economics / Re: The re-accumulation period is in on: October 12, 2019, 02:15:46 AM
Averaging in over time is fair enough but it requires a deep enough budget to maybe last 24 months even, depends on the asset but something like Gold has a time scale of about a decade in my estimation.   Bitcoin, crypto is oppisite to dollar to the global reserve system based on FIAT and its possible it also is a very long term requirement in holding though it appears to spike more often.  If we are talking about buying in this way then its that long term underlying trend that is being attempted to capture with a monthly buy, people do the same with stocks and index funds.

I disagree. The point of cost averaging over time is that you don't need a deep pocket. You can add increments of small amounts on a staggered basis and eventually it becomes a huge amount. Thats actually how like social security or retirement works.

Also, bitcoin isn't necessarily the opposite of the global reserve system. Bitcoin is much more and an independent body that has much more potential and value. I believe Bitcoin is going up, if you're not buying, you're loosing.
70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Small Miners, how much do you make ? on: October 12, 2019, 01:52:54 AM
-snip- In 3 months the price dropped down 50%.

That's why i believe it's crucial to have a plan when mining. My plan entailed cashing out mining rewards twice a month, regardless of price and as long as it is profit. Safer strategies like this are at risk of earning less especially if the coin suddenly pumps in value, but on the other hand, it's much safer especially if you have a larger mining operation and have to pay for large operating expenses like electricity or space.
71  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Get Paid To Test Mining Rig. on: October 12, 2019, 01:47:45 AM
Mmh not sure to understand. What do you want to test with that ?

Basically they'll be giving you a rig to control remotely. You just need to optimize it for them and provide feedback on their service, and in return you get to receive the mining rewards for 30 days. Not bad!

---

Hi Sam, also sent a PM. Have been mining since 2017 and i'm interested in testing a mining rig. Seems like an offer to good to refuse.
72  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading competitions on: October 11, 2019, 05:16:29 PM
The problem with trading competitions like this is that they are usually dominated by whales because the winners are determined by trading volume. How can regular people compete with millionaires who have everything at their disposal.

Also be careful of joining exchanges, not all crypto exchanges are trustworthy and some may not pay rewards or some may even run away with your money.
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Hope ahead for crypto currencies on: October 11, 2019, 04:01:38 PM
Theres a reason why Bitcoin was called a bubble..

I strongly believe Cryptocurrency will bounce back... but in a different form with a higher hash function than SHA-256 and probably strictly managed by some elements within the G8.

Bitcoin was a test but the world must still go fully digital in basic finance  administration and other areas as well

Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies are definitely here to stay. Real world mass adoption is growing everyday and pretty soon it will be inevitable that people will realize the potential and value of our coins. When that time comes, us early investors will be rewarded.

Crypto will change everything, not just the financial world, all we need to do now is wait.
74  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Community still believes in Ethereum 2.0 despite scaling challenges on: October 11, 2019, 03:33:36 PM
Community still believes in Ethereum 2.0 despite scaling challenges

Quote

At the 2019 Devcon in Japan, the Ethereum community was optimistic about the launch of the network’s second iteration, seemingly untouched by the latest controversy surrounding claims made by Ethereum’s founders about its inability to scale and grow.

https://cryptoslate.com/community-still-believes-in-ethereum-2-0-despite-scaling-challenges/

Oh yes, I think ETH 2.0 will really bring some positive vibes in the ecosystem. Lots of enthusiasts are waiting for this specially solving the scaling issue which Ethereum has been facing specially in the last two years or so. I believed that they really very serious in tackling it, that's why they are busy promoting this ETH 2.0.

What are your thoughts about this one? Do you think that we will see some bull run when ETH 2.0 are released early next year?

It's pretty biased to say the community supports ETH of course because the participants of that said ETH devcon are obviously fans of Ethereum. Despite this, i do still personally believe in ETH 2.0 and proof-of-stake and am quite confident it will be glorious once it is released.

ETH is definitely a huge BULL run in the making.
75  Economy / Economics / Re: China cracking down on bitcoin again on: October 11, 2019, 03:04:51 PM
Not necessarily China itself, but just Alipay maybe?

The crack down is understandably so because Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies are a direct competitor of payment services such as Alipay. They are threatened by crypto because they know the potential crypto has to undermine their service. They can't stop progress tho, eventually crypto may put them out of business.
76  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: New Study Shows How Unprofitable Day Trading Is? on: October 11, 2019, 08:25:10 AM
I came across an article where researchers found that 3% of traders make money and with less than 1% making more than minimum wage.

A new study of day traders in Brazil 3 academics, 2 from the Sao Paulo School of Economics and another from the University of Sao Paulo, undertook a comprehensive analysis of options and futures day traders in local equity markets and shown that this is almost certain to be a total nonsense.

The academics looked at just under 20,000 new traders and found that, over time, they lost more and more money. Of those that traded for a single day, roughly 30% turned a profit. Conversely, only 3 percent of the people that traded for over 300 days made any money.

In fact, the researchers found that the longer that someone traded, the more money they lost. This pattern can be seen in the casino roulett, said the academics.

>> If day trading is not profitable, then why do people still do day trading?

How profitable day trading depends on many different factors, one such important factor is that it depends on how much capital a trader has. A 2% gain for a trader with $10k vs $100k USD makes a big difference and can spell the difference between becoming a successful full-time job or not.

But if we talk of Bitcoin alone, it does seem like long term investors have gained more than day traders.
77  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Do you always invest in top ranked coins? on: October 11, 2019, 07:23:26 AM
Yes, it's always a good and safe idea to bet on top "blue chip" or top-ranked coins. Especially with cryptocurrencies, you can never go wrong with high market cap coins that are much less prone to market manipulation.

On the other hand, if you want to make a killing, you'd have to invest in lesser known coins before they pop and grow exponentially.
78  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitconnect Investigation on: October 11, 2019, 06:51:47 AM
I am researching scams such as bitconnect and the controversy around it.

For starters, I want to dig deeper into the ICO and "follow the money". Where is that 1500 BTC anyways?? I'm tracing the Bitcoin blockchain to see if I can find the source of funds.

Would you be willing to track down the address that bitconnect gave you to invest in their ICO? Or any other address you can identify as belonging to bitconnect? This would help my research a ton, and your assistance can be credited in my report. Hopefully, we can expose bitconnect for misleading investors and prevent future investors from making the same mistakes as you and me. PM me if you're willing to help out!

Thanks so much,
BTCarry

I feel bad and sorry for your loss but unfortunately many others like you have already tried to chase Bitconnect. Based on the news the company has already run away with the money and you'll be hard pressed to recover anything left.

If i were you i'd accept the loss and be a more careful investor next time around.
79  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Savings Vs Investment? on: October 11, 2019, 05:34:05 AM
Go for investments.

Personally, my savings are just my emergency fund. They consist of about 10% of my investment portfolio. I believe savings accounts are foolish if you expect to grow your money at what, 1-2%, per annum? You only live once and it's more important that you try as much as possible to grow your nest egg. Investments earn way more than what savings accounts can earn in much less shorter timeframe.
80  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin adoption rising in NGO sector: Report on: October 11, 2019, 05:25:30 AM
On the recent news Unicef is having their Cryptocurrency Fund for donations that will be made thru ether and bitcoin. Though Unicef is not considered as NGO but still accepting donations from individuals. It will be nice if NGO who don't have stable  support will accept also Cryptocurrencies besides there are available blockchain applications that can help them monitor the transactions and its them who will convert it to fiat. It can help them encourage more people all over the world to donate since easier transaction is now available.

While UNICEF is not an NGO itself, it still has an NGO committee and in essence operates like one. Sadly, i went to the UNICEF donation website and couldn't find an option to donate using crypto. Do you have a link to that crypto donation page?

In any case, i really am excited about more real world adoption for crypto. Nothing but more good to come.
