501  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU miner for CPU-only coin on: June 18, 2018, 09:32:49 AM
This thread is probably a good example of how many scams start. Send this newbie account your money if you him to disappear and never be heard from again. Go ahead, ask him to post evidence here. I'm sure he can provide it. /s

That being said, someone with a GPU miner for a STRICTLY CPU-only coin would not need to sell a miner through this method. There are much more profitable ways to deal with things like this and doing this should easily be an indication that this is a scam. Be careful people!
502  Economy / Speculation / Re: Expected predictions on: June 18, 2018, 09:27:09 AM
Not to be such a nit-picky grammar nazi, but the topic title "expected predictions" is quite redundant. By definition a prediction is already an "expectation" that something will come true in the future so saying "expected prediction" is tantamount to saying you "expect to expect."

Back to topic, i predict bitcoin and crypto will really soar towards the end of 2018.
503  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to expand the number of PCIe devices on a Main Board? on: June 18, 2018, 09:17:47 AM
Thanks, nitrobg.  By disabling as much PCIe stuff (USB Root controllers, NICs, etc) the ASUS board will post with 16 GPUs but only 12 are recognized by W10.  The MB does not have "Above 4GB" setting in UEFI.  Perhaps all 16 could be used if available.  Thanks all for the help.  I learned a lot.  Enjoy, John.
actually it has "above 4G decoding" setting.
Unlikely, because he's using an AMD board and Above 4G is an Intel feature - I'll need to dig into my AMD rig's bios to see what the option was. I'm not sure what are AMD's limits because it could be utilizing the PCI-E lanes differently.
OP, please try running Linux.
umm, what?
ASUS B250 Mining Expert is an Intel board, I have one and I'm pretty sure that it has the "above 4g decoding" option in UEFI.
12 GPUs are recognized because Adrenaline Driver for Windows can run up to 12 AMD GPUs max.

The ASUS B250 mining expert motherboard can be used in conjuction with PCIE slot expanders, you just have to disable unused components. Some guy on youtube (if i recall correctly, Bits Be Trypin is the name of the channel) was able to mine with 21-GPUs on this motherboard.

Note that you need to use mining edition GPUs in addition to your normal GPUs to effectively get beyond the 13-GPU limit.
504  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] IOS - Signature & Avatar Campaign | Up to $150/week - (Extended) on: June 18, 2018, 02:35:22 AM
Hi guys, i've also posted a message on the telegram channel. A channel admin said he/she would relay our concern to the team. Hopefully it helps our cause and gets some needed attention to this little situation of ours. I still do believe in Madz and the IOST team.

I'm now just posting for the record as well, i've completed 3 weeks worth of post requirements. Hoping we get updates either from Madz or the IOST management team soon.
505  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Old Gaming Desktop to Miner on: June 15, 2018, 11:50:24 AM
with lowspeed computer, you should try to mine by inactive website that you do not keept your computer allways open.

Try these website:
https://dogeminer.cc/index.php?boss=255600 -> dodge coin
https://minebank.net/index.php?ref=64821 -> bitcoin
https://minebank.net/index.php?ref=64821 -> bitcoin

Note: speed is quite slow until you invest some bucks

To all readers, I would strongly advise against online browser based or cloud mining schemes as the ones linked above. More often than not, these types of websites promise high yields but almost always fail to deliver. Not all are scams, but most if not all are not profitable.

Search google or these forums and you should easily find other discussions that reflect my sentiment.
506  Economy / Economics / Re: How will crypto go long term? on: June 15, 2018, 11:24:57 AM
What does everyone else think? Do you think the big fish will continue allowing us to do trading long term, or are our days numbered?

I've been in the same boat and have often wondered how far can bitcoin and cryptocurrencies go.

It is true, more regulations will probably be put in place before we see an end to it, but it is also true that more adoption will also be gained as we progress through time. Regulation means there is use for it and use for it means value. My reflections make me confidently bullish on the long term nature of crypto in general.
507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: the RISK of FPGA mining on: June 15, 2018, 11:21:45 AM
I can show you a chat room with 30 fpga devs in it right now feverishly working away to provide bitstreams for the community. What can you show me?

https://discord.gg/M6CyRh

I WILL get these FPGA to GPU pricing; or Xilinx (and Intel) is going to need to get a restraining order against me. I don't know how to give up, ask paypal.

30 devs working on FPGAs would definitely be a sight to see.

I'd just like to change things up a bit and say THANK YOU, senseless and GPUHoarder, your work on bringing these FPGAs to the masses is phenomenal and will surely healthy for crypto in the long run. People have placed their trust on you for a reason and I wish nothing but success for your endeavors. Good luck!
508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining profitability ASIC vs GPU on: June 15, 2018, 04:43:39 AM
When we are talking about ROI - ASICs vs GPUs, it's usually the case that ASICs will ROI faster than GPUs, which is great.
But the thing that is almost even more important is, how much time do you profit from mining after you ROI!?

This is the problem you never hear anyone talking about. After you spend all those big bucks on those ASICs and you reach ROI, how much profit do you get after, and for how long!? Not very long, right?

As far as i understand, the "post-profit" you are referring to is almost always directly correlated to ROI. Just did some tissue math but if the logic is that if you get ROI faster, then you also have more capital and opportunity to invest more profitable or more efficient hardware.

Feel free to correct me with real numbers and data.
509  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Tactics When Market is Falling on: June 14, 2018, 07:11:30 AM
Hi all,
I am a relative newbie but have remained pretty calm during the difficult last week or so. The markets are falling significantly again, is this still relatively normal and is the best advice just to HODL? Moving forward I think I will set stop losses on all holdings to protect my capital against falls like this.
Thanks

The best tactic is to forget about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies for the time being.

History has shown time and again that those people who actually forgot that they had bitcoin holdings, were those people who earned the most money. If you are constantly aware and checking prices you would have probably cashed out your bitcoin once it doubled. However, if you forgot about your bitcoin, you could experience exponential gains more than twice over.
510  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: June 14, 2018, 07:09:19 AM
Would be interested to know if anyone here has already received or has seen an actual working Z9 ASIC. Anyone part of this community lucky enough to be part of the first 77 orders? I'm particularly interested in how far actual numbers are from bitmain's advertised hashrate / power consumption (10k sol/s @ 320w).

Seems like these Z9s will have a big impact on the future of GPU mining.
511  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining profitability ASIC vs GPU on: June 14, 2018, 06:55:59 AM
Well, so an ASIC is the future of mining cryptocurrency right? I guess many developers fear that ASICs will lead to the centralization of their cryptocurrencies and undermine their biggest selling point: security. If ASICs make mining inaccessible to most people while concentrating computing power in the hands of a few large mining operations, this arguably makes networks more vulnerable to manipulation or censorship by governments or the companies that own the most ASICs.

I like the way you think and i completely agree that ASICS "undermine their biggest selling point: security."

People will try to tell you that ASICs are not centralized because anyone can buy it isn't thinking logically. ASICs are not built for home used and should only be run in warehouse/factory style environments. You really can't live in a regular house with a machine generating heat and making 70+ dB noise 24/7. ASIC mining is not for everyone and there for is centralized. Do we want coins to be centralized? No.
512  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin and retirement - how do you see your future? on: June 14, 2018, 06:21:18 AM
I came across a very nice experiment of one of my compatriots. He started to put up around $ 50 a month for pension. I will add that pensions in my country are low.

Description of the experiment:

-snip-

I guess this could work in the medium to long term because cryptocurrencies are a far better investment when they are done with long time periods. However, i believe this could still be optimized by not blindly investing a certain amount monthly. As we know, crypto is extremely volatile and a little optimization you can do is actually time your monthly investments at points where crypto is in a downward trend. Take some time to look at charts and all that, it shouldn't take up your time but being able to see the peaks and valleys will help you asses if the time is right to invest.
513  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU mining coming to an end? on: June 14, 2018, 01:06:16 AM
No, GPU mining will endure but some things need to change or adapt.

-snip-

Very well said. I believe a key point in your statements would be the fact that "Ultimately it will simply be the coins that are used and have value which means it just comes down to people behind the coins making business deals and driving further integration."

Without integration with the real world the coins will be completely useless, a means to pay other people in exchange for nothing. While coins like Ravencoin are technically sound, the problem of integration and finding real utility with it is a problem. Until developers drive a coin forward with well balanced business plan, we will soon have nothing to mine.

514  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Good time to buy some vegas? on: June 13, 2018, 08:48:50 AM
i love vegas, the cheap powecolor ones are hit or miss tho, they have shit hynix mem and max out
at 1850 or so h/s on v7 , id buy reference cards if u can find them

Still buying GPUs at this time? I thought the majority of the people here on the forums were already averse to new mining hardware investments.

Personally, i believe the risk of FPGAs actually doing 14 kh/s as advertised is real and incoming threat to Monero and other cryptonight coins. With the versatility of FPGAs i don't know if the Monero team can simply just fork again to brick the FPGA permanently. It may be just me but i'd rather play safe with mining investments today.
515  Economy / Economics / Re: Will countries or central banks create their own cryptocurrency? on: June 13, 2018, 08:45:05 AM

A few countries and central banks have been talking about “digital currency”, and most of them are carefully ignoring the term “crypto”. Fact is- digital currency is not the same as cryptocurrency. These countries/central banks are recognizing the benefits of the digital currency features of cryptocurrency, but they don’t want any of the decentralized uncertainties that come with blockchain-based currencies.
Will countries or central banks create their own cryptocurrency?

Have you seen how Venezuela's "petro" cryptocurrency panned out? It was a flop worse than your average shitcoin ICO.

The problem with the idea of each country creating their own crypto is that it contradicts the purpose of cryptocurrencies in the first place. Crypto was designed to be borderless and free from centralization. Crypto is here to make the world a better place and not be a rehashed version of our current financial system.

516  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Custom RAM Timings for GPU's with GDDR5 - DOWNLOAD LINKS - UPDATED on: June 13, 2018, 08:15:40 AM
I'm pretty new to this thread and although i've tried to do my homework, i can't seem to figure out if this hex method is more efficient than simply using the Polaris BIOS Editor (PBE) to mod my AMD RX series GPUs. Is there some sort of benefit to using this over the PBE, like will i be able to find more optimized timing straps leading to better mining efficiency?

Any inputs would be appreciated. Thank you.
517  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: aws mining method on: June 13, 2018, 12:38:01 AM
There is no method, they're watching usage, and closing your instances for violating rules.

There is no (worthwhile or profitable) method. You could keep creating new accounts with different credit cards until you run out of card numbers every time you get banned, but that probably won't last long unless you have a long list of credit cards (and by then you would already have to be a fraudster).

Just do it the legitimate way like everyone else does and buy some mining hardware while paying for electricity.
518  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Rigs often reboot on: June 12, 2018, 01:06:36 PM
Not sure if that error log is any indication of the cause of the reboot, but i suspect that you are having a problem with your miner and GPU configuration.

I would try the following:

  • Reduce or disable overclocking settings
  • Use a different miner other than what you are using
  • Try disabling 1 GPU and see if you mine fine with just 1 GPU (to see which GPU is causing the problem)
  • DDU, then reinstall drivers
519  Economy / Economics / Re: So many cryptocurrencies ! on: June 12, 2018, 06:40:22 AM
There are indeed too many cryptocurrencies popping up here and there and 1624 is indeed a large number. The thing is, there is nothing we can do about it because crypto was developed to further enhance our freedoms. Freedom from corrupt banking institutions that aim only to take our money. By limiting creation of new crypto, we risk being the same institutions we were trying to prevent in the first place. Just forget the other shitcoins because they won't matter. Only the real projects will remain in the long run anyway.
520  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 50Ksol/s 620W, Innosilicon announces World Best Equihash Miner A9 ZMaster on: June 12, 2018, 03:18:44 AM
I am actually excited. 1 A9 will free up my 70 1080 Tis so they can mine Lyra2 on NH and 4 batch 1 Z9s will free up my 1070 army for mining something more profitable. These Nvidias were bought last year and they have paid themselves off several times already.

Kinda weird but I also purchased 4 batch 1 z9's and 1 A9 ZMaster. Great minds must think alike (I hope)? I'm feeling more confident about my A9 purchase and less so about the batch 1 z9's. Bitmain got caught completely flatfooted by the A9 announcement. I think their strategy with only shipping 77 units was so they could get those early customers to hype it up via forums/youtube/blogs so more people buy into batch #2 thinking they're going to be earning as much as the first 77 customers.

Their strategy completely backfired. I think they're rethinking things right now, after all the complaints, and A9 announcement. It also doesn't help when a lot of those first 77 units got into coin devs hands.  I doubt they will give more coupons or double miners for batch #1 customers. I'm guessing firmware update or faster shipping schedule is their only viable option.

You're probably forgetting about the price difference. Not many people are willing to shell out $10k for a single A9 that could be rendered useless instantly if devs decide to fork. Many people will still pick the Z9 because at $1.8k it is a more acceptable risk. It is not as efficient than the A9 but it is still better than buying a GPU rig. It seems like it's for more casual miners.

Besides, buying any of these outside of batch 1 is already a bad idea. Innosilicon is probably selling it now because they've mined enough to know profitability will soon tank.
