621  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 4 PCEI slots on PSU but 5 cards on: May 10, 2018, 11:50:50 PM
What are your GPUs? If your lack of PSU cables is the problem, then you could use PCIE splitters like this:

Been using this for almost a year now without any problems at all.
622  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best electricity plan for mining on: May 09, 2018, 02:30:36 AM
In the country from where i live, tiered time-based or what we call "on-peak" and "off-peak" hours are always more cost effective than flat rate electricity. You have to call your electricity provider and do your own math but it should boil down to spending less.

To further enhance savings what you could also do is develop a script to change overclock settings and power consumption of your miners to HIGH power during off-peak hours and LOW power during on-peak hours.

624  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: JUST RELEASED: UberMiner auto-mines the most profitable coin & pays in BitCoin on: May 06, 2018, 08:58:48 AM
Not to rain on your parade but just sharing my opinion..

I don't see how using this has any advantage over NiceHash. NiceHash is a tried and tested miner, which off the box supports AMD hardware. They've been hacked before and i believe this has further beefed up security which makes it more resilient to future attacks. Until we see better features and if possible, even less of a fee, i would not use this.

In fact, i don't see any compelling reason to use auto-switch and convert miners when it is so easy to do the process yourself and not have to less percentages of your mining profits.
625  Economy / Economics / Re: tax for a safer crypto environment on: May 06, 2018, 04:24:41 AM
What if our government add tax whenever we transact fiat-crypto and vice versa, and the fund will be used for our protection(ICO,Scams,Phishings), for example the government will make a group or sector that focuses on crypto environtment. what do you think?

They shouldn't be taxing our transactions. They should tax ICOs and the now more popular "Token Generation Events."

The average joe has already been taxed to death. Bitcoin and crypto was developed to decentralize everything and keep middlemen and governments from taking our money. I would not support any form of taxation for crypto transactions.
626  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Cast XMR] high speed XMR/CryptoNight miner for RX Vega GPUs (2 KHash/s) on: May 06, 2018, 03:09:48 AM
it's normal for the hashes to go down when CryptoNight-Heavy mine?

It is common for hashrates to drop when mining with RX Vegas either 56 or 64. You will need to restart your GPUs/miners to regularly maximize your Cryptonight hashrates. Take a look at JJ's restart script if you want to automate this. Just do a quick google search and you should find it.
627  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: May 06, 2018, 02:17:43 AM
ALGO-of- the-month coin   is my new idea.

this new coin switches every month to a new algo.
the developer launches coin with 36 algos ready to drop for 36 months in a row.

Interesting idea philipma. The only problem is if they have a number of ASICs of all algos available. There would be months where GPU mining would be profitable (when there are no ASICs for that algo) and there would be months were it would be not (when there are ASICs for the algo, ex: Equihash, Ethash). Hopefully this can be a take off point for other algo-switching ideas though.
628  Economy / Economics / Re: Working smart vs working hard - an ultimate guide on: May 06, 2018, 01:45:23 AM
I'd like to chime in and say it varies on a case-to-case basis but it is usually a combination of both that make you successful.

For example if you are a sculptor, working smarter would probably mean planning out which parts to sculpt first and making sure you don't need to repeat tasks. Then again, that doesn't free you from the fact that you really have to put in the work needed to complete the sculpture. You need to work hard and long to finish it. Going further, some would probably argue that you could work smarter and hire people to do it for you, that would work but you would also have to work hard and interview the right workers and find clients.

Hopefully this examples shows how working smarter and harder goes hand-in-hand.
629  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RX 570 Pulse 4GB Elpida E388 stock anybody? on: May 06, 2018, 01:23:57 AM
As long as you use your original BIOS, make a copy of that, and save changes as a different file name, it is safe to flash your GPU with that. If it comes from your own GPU and you know what timing straps to copy, you should be safe.

You should only worry about BIOs compatibility if you download modded BIOSes from the internet (highly unrecommended).
630  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Pros and cons of whitepapers on: May 04, 2018, 10:15:37 AM
Question for everyone, what are the signs of a good whitepaper and also signs of a bad one.

Seems like your topic title is misleading. I believe you are looking for signs that indicate if a whitepaper is good or bad.

Anyway, to help you with this here are some guidelines:

1. If there are no grammatical errors.
2. If it has coherent content that actually outlines the project's purpose, solution, and roadmap.
3. If it looks professional. Some whitepapers look like they were just typed in MS word and don't even have any type of styling or design.
631  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer Z9 mini - GPU mining killed ? on: May 04, 2018, 10:03:35 AM
Everyone can buy it, and everyone can use it (compare it to GPUs rig).

Everyone can buy and use it, really? Let's consider the following:

1. The cost of the latest ZEC ASIC is $2000 USD. Isn't that a rather large risky investment for a non-crypto person? A simple GPU that can mine any coin would start at $250-$300.
2. You can only buy 1 ZEC ASIC per person. Companies or other entities probably have a way of getting around this while the regular person will have to buy 2nd hand ASICs at inflated prices.
3. Have you ever owned an ASIC and heard how loud it is? Unless you love DIY and have extra space and a lot of time on your hands, a regular person's house is not a place to run ASICs.

Just throwing these out there. I'm pretty sure theres more reasons and disadvantages to ASIC but i haven't listed them all.
632  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Monero got saved after Fork. What about ETH, ZEC.. Forks ?? Save GPU mining ! on: May 04, 2018, 03:45:51 AM
It`s very sad to see Bitmain dominating cryptos

Monero team and other coins that not allow centralization have my RESPECT

As do mine (respect). I hope this thread at least becomes a call to attention for developers to do something about the threat of ASICs. Come to think of it Bitmain could (and probably has) have hidden information about these ASICs and just kept it to themselves and yet they would still earn a huge amount of money.

The fact that they are selling it now could mean that they have already earned enough and are looking to reduce risk and sell old models/versions. It could also be a smokescreen to explain the incoming huge surge in ZEC difficulty very soon. They will make people think that difficulty increased tremendously because of people buying ZEC ASICs but in reality it is because they start turning on their ZEC ASIC v2 which hashes at 100k sols/s using only 100 watts.
633  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: decentralization my a$$ on: May 04, 2018, 03:08:33 AM
Asic coins like bitcoin and litecoin are decentralized. It will be the same for this. To be fair, they purposely made it 1 miner per account to help decentralization as it is.

This is far from accurate. Bitcoin is very centralized and you can understand this by Bitmains threats. Also if you have the money to purchase 200+ units you can do it through bitmain bulk purchase and receive it 1st day with others. Trusted Alibaba Suppliers are already preordering with no cap on the amount for not much more than bitmain.

You could say the same thing about GPUs.  If you have the money, you can order 200+ today, while the rest of us can only buy them at inflated prices on ebay.  Is that decentralization?  Look at the hashrates of the top miners of equihash.  Those guys have hundreds of cards running.

The difference is anybody and everybody can buy GPUs and use it for mining. Could you say the same thing for ASICs?

It is not feasible for home miners to run a number of ASICs due to a number of limitations. The unit cost is high, it is too noisy for regular homes, it is even less profitable unless you have industrial electricity rates. Lots of barriers to entry with ASICs.
634  Economy / Economics / Re: Only a mature and regulated crypto market will attract big investors. on: May 04, 2018, 12:22:44 AM
I understand where you're coming from but i somewhat disagree. Big investors will probably want to get ahead of the pack and invest early to maximize their profits. There logic would probably fall along the lines of: What is the point in investing in an oversaturated market?

I'm quite confident that when we have a mature and regulated market, it will be because of big investors, and it will instead attract regular people or small investors.
635  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: May 03, 2018, 12:12:19 PM

I'm at 128 panels, and plan to add another 24, which will max out my current solar breaker panel.  After that, I'll likely switch from micro inverters to larger 10KW inverters and run DC from the arrays back to where the inverters are located.  This makes sense since additional arrays past the initial 152, are going to have to be located further away from my shop where all the miners live.  High voltage DC power = much less power loss than 240VAC.

Your username suits you. That's a pretty large solar farm as it is. I'm wondering how you handle the excess power generated and if you're selling excess energy back to the grid (incase your miners shutoff and stop consuming power).

Have you ever considered venturing into a pure solar mining farm and selling electricity to the grid for profits?
636  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Question about risers?? on: May 03, 2018, 11:51:01 AM
Not saying this to discourage you by all means research all you want, but from my experience it would be better to just simply buy an ASUS mining expert motherboard that can support up to 19-GPUs. If your goal is to get better power efficiency by increasing the density or number of GPUs connected to a single board, then PCIE riser extenders are not the way to go.

As you've found out, motherboards are limited by their lanes/chipsets/whatever, but more than that, stability of multi-extended mining rigs is questionable (unstable). As far as i know extenders are useful only for normal/gaming motherboards that only have a few PCIE slots, and is still limited in the maximum number of extenders added.
637  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: After a Bad Sell on: May 03, 2018, 10:55:52 AM
So this happened to me twice this week, first I sold Bitcoin Cash and the next day, it started booming and has not up considerably and still going strong, then I sold Golem and boom it goes too.

What do you do in such situations? When you finally sell for a small profit after a long wait but then you realize that you missed on big profit with you bad timing.
How do you deal with this? Any tips to minimize this or overcome after such bad timing decisions?

That sounds exactly like what happens to me every time i try to trade. It also happens the opposite way such that when i buy a coin, the coin prices go to the dumps.

I feel like this is because the whales have developed a way to analyze market sentiment and manipulate it in such a way that when the average joe (like me) feels like it's a good time to buy, they capitalize on it and take our money. Sadly, until we are large enough whales or the market becomes more resistant to insider trading and manipulation, there is little we can do but simply hodl until we are really content with profit.
638  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: gpu bubble well and truly bursting on: May 03, 2018, 01:39:57 AM
i would have to agree with  Marvell2 ...
i think another coin will come along and make some waves.
gpu prices are some what better,  but if 2 years doesn't hold out, just another year of Eth mining would be fantastic!
and the possibility of VR farms could be huge in the future...
maybe a vr credits market place like they had for solar credits, who knows we would all be buying GPUs like mad again Smiley

For any new coin to be larger and compensate for Ethereum mining, that new coin better would have to be larger and overtake Ethereum in terms of technology, team, and adoption. It would probably high unlikely that a secret development team come out of hiding and change the world with innovative technology. Not saying that it can't happen, what i'm saying is POS would be long implemented before then.
639  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Cloud mining profirable? on: May 02, 2018, 11:01:49 AM
It's been discussed numerous times online and here in the forums. Cloud mining is profitable only on the assumption that the value of a coin will rise.

Discussions have also pointed out that given that assumption (coin value will rise), it is better to buy the coin directly. Why? Because the math says so.
640  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Questions about GPU mining (1 about ASIC) on: May 02, 2018, 09:23:58 AM
I highly recommend 1050TI, you can build an 8+cards rig of it which costs less than $2000. it is the most flexible and valuable card I've ever used

Not to rain on your parade, but you should really look at power efficiency comparing a 1050ti rig to a 1070 rig.

While your 1050ti rig may be cheaper, a 1070 mining rig is more efficient and will earn more in the long run. Also, it is easier to sell 3-4pcs of 1070 GPUs compared to having to sell 8pcs of 1050tis. Configuration is easier with 1070s too.
