461  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: SLOWER hashrates when virtual memory enabled ... on: June 29, 2018, 02:14:20 AM
Welcome to the forums. Your problem is "No BIOS mods, nothing fancy, no undervolting, no overclocking." All of those are needed to ensure you get optimal hashrates. The AMD driver software, especially for Vega GPUs, is buggy and you really can't expect it to work the way you intend it to. So the reason for your problem could be a multitude of errors.

The simplest and probably only solution is to configure it correctly. If you are a fan of CastXMR then follow his guide: http://www.gandalph3000.com/cast_xmr/cast-xmr-optimized-cryptonight-miner-for-rx-vega/
462  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto and automobile on: June 28, 2018, 02:09:24 PM
I'm just curious when can I start buying my dream cars with altcoins, I mean can huge automobile companies like Toyota, Ford and Nissan start accepting cryptocurrency as means of exchange

If you have enough crypto to buy a car in the first place, why don't you just sell your crypto and convert into fiat then use that to buy a car? I'm sorry but please clarify as I may be missing the big picture but sometimes it also just takes a little common sense to solve things.

FYI, in case you do have enough, Lamborghini accepts bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as payment.
463  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETH hashrate decrease after modded bios on: June 28, 2018, 02:06:31 PM
That is weird. By any chance did you turn on two instances of the miner?

Also looking at your screenshot it seems like you have dual mining turned on? It says DCRI is set to 12. Usually its now a better option to focus on mining ETH alone instead of trying to dual mine some other shitcoin along with it.
464  Economy / Economics / Re: Good business is a business that begins, not questioned continuously on: June 28, 2018, 10:36:50 AM
Many people in this world are always questioning this, what is a good business? Well, good business is a business that begins, rather than being questioned because the hard thing in doing business is to walk to the first ladder. If we do not start a single step, we will never get to the top. Just as with trading, or investing in cryptocurrency, without trying and starting investing in it, you will not know how much profit you get, and how much experience you will receive if the market is down. Remember that experience is the best teacher.

I completely agree. The hardest step is the first step!

From what i've experienced this fear of taking the first step is what usually hinders people, not just businesses, from achieving their maximum potential. It is actually pretty basic when people say that people who start something are more likely to succeed than those who don't. If you are on the edge of investing in crypto or starting a business, may this thread be an inspiration to you. Good luck!
465  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is your biggest regrets in cryptocurrency? on: June 28, 2018, 10:33:56 AM
I discovered bitcoin when it was about $5 per coin and during that time for several reasons I could not buy it. I discovered eth and xmr when they were around $10 per coin and I could not find a good place to buy them. I discovered netko when it was about $0.05 and I could not get the wallet compiled. I probably had around 40 bitcoins and cashed them all out under $800 and I could name more.

You?

Almost the same as the OP, my biggest regret is not investing MORE.

I discovered bitcoin when it was already $800 but even then it would have been an extremely profitable investment. The gains i would have experienced was and will probably forever be unparalled to any financial investment i would make through traditional stocks.
466  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can someone help me remember the name of the overclock/algorithm/gpu database? on: June 27, 2018, 11:57:38 PM
If you were looking for a cryptonight-based calculator that lets you do just that, then maybe you were referring to (https://cryptunit.com)

Some have reported inconsistencies with how cryptunit reports profitability but i really do like the website because of it's interactivity and the summary statistics charts. Could be really helpful if you are a cryptonight-oriented miner.
467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: why do people mine crap coins? on: June 27, 2018, 11:52:12 PM

Isn't mining the more profitable coin safer? or do people just constantly mine the less profitable coin and try to trade the volatility of it hoping to catch a swing? I get spec mining when you are mining a brand new coin and difficulty is non existent and value of a coin is completely unknown, but we're talking Ella and Komodo here.

You got the right strategy in mind. Mining the most profitable coin is usually the simplest and the best because you can simply buy speculative coins with it anyway. The thing is some people go balls deep into speculation that they mine coins that aren't even listed on any exchanges yet. Those are the coins where people expect to gain significantly.

When you think of it, its almost like gambling already.

469  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC will not perish on: June 27, 2018, 01:04:18 PM
Bitcoin is too resilient to perish though there are fluctuations in the prices on the market. Market will soon stabilize in no time.Do you believe that?

I do believe that Bitcoin is already too big to fail.

But it will not fail just because it is already too big. It will not fail because it is has great potential to change the world and that in itself has value. As bitcoin adoption grows, it's value should as well. Pretty soon all these problems with hacks and FUD will end and there will be nowhere for bitcoin to go but UP.

Damn. The product looks like an amazing piece of engineering. However, the website itself is also superbly designed and is really eye-catching, i felt like i was playing a video game just going through the user interface. Kudos to your hardware and software engineering teams.

I completely agree with you on the website design. This is how a product website should be done! If products were sold based on website design alone, this product would probably sell trillions. I can only imagine how much the Comino team paid the website designers.

Product looks great too btw, just a little too late to the market probably.
471  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will every crypto coin survive? on: June 27, 2018, 11:07:07 AM
I think that 95% of crypto coins and tokens won't survive and the reason is that a crypto coin in order to survive and get value it has to be accepted as a way of payment for purchase goods or services.
Very few coins will manage to do it at the end of the day and of course these coins will get enormous value.
The only thing you have to do is to find out which coins will enter the market of real currencies.

While 95% is a bit high, i somewhat agree with you.

It's really not hard to see that majority of the existing coins right now are just forks and duplicates that offer no clear advantage over others. The maximum potential of cryptocurrencies aren't realized in very specific niches and groups. When people realize this, fake coins will drop like theres no tomorrow.
472  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place. on: June 26, 2018, 11:50:12 PM
I have the impression to not buy any more GPU of this generation for mining.

wait for the next round;  where things will be back into the green again.

until then, make the best you can with what you have, or turn off and wait for a change before things move up.  If you need to shut off for a month or two;  I would assume most professional farms have earned a "vacation" from 24/7 work....  at the cost of a month or two rent.   I think it would have been one of my professional strategies if I had taken the loan and opened my own legit farm....  but I myself am glad that I didn't.   I just kick myself for not spending when I should and could have..... I'd have earned hand over fist more.

Also remember, BTC is reaching it's low.  Think back to BTC==$200.    We are in that territory again, but since BTC is already established;  recovery should be swift.   If it is;  imagine the profit ratio on the climb of the real "third spike" in price that things of value tend to do when traded.........   That's going to be the honey-pot.   I think selling anything right now is purely weak hands... unless your business profile dictates it.

But Once BTC rises back up to 10K... profitability I think would be less of a concern for most.   20k+, everyone would be happy.
That's a nice blue sky scenario... but there are arguments against it.
The rise to 20K was a massive pump, aka market manipulation.
The vast majority of BTC are split amongst a few addresses.

Two points that speak against decentralisation AND efficient markets.

Everyone's expecting BTC to break records and get to new crazy highs. Most people haven't even considered that this might just never happen.

I'd say those are two weak arguments because they are purely speculation without evidence. On the other hand, i have two counter-arguments that are all for bitcoin rising in value again.

1. Bitcoin is ever-improving. Scalability is being addressed, mass adoption rates are growing, and people are becoming more aware of avoiding scams.
2. Cryptocurrencies add value to services. They cut out the middleman and offer a solution for the efficient transfer of value.

Have you considered that maybe that is why "everyone" (your words) is expecting BTC to break records and get to new crazy highs? Smiley
473  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: NVIDIA GeForce Next-Gen PCB ‘Prototype’ leak on: June 26, 2018, 11:00:45 AM
I read some of the comments on the reddit link, but still, i'm not sure if these specs are good news or not for GPU mining.

From what little I understand, the 1080ti we see on the market today already have 11 GB memory. So isn't 12 GB memory not much of an advantage / enhancement to existing models? Please correct me if i'm wrong, maybe the fact that it is "GDDR6" could also play a dramatic role in improving it's performance.
474  Economy / Economics / Re: Would a global disaster increase or decrease the Bitcoin value ? on: June 26, 2018, 10:53:35 AM
Hi ! First message here.

If a global disaster would happen on earth ( And I somehow don't wish it ) Would the value increase or decrease ?

I'm not talking about solar flares or EMP. But more like big wars or great natural disaster.

What are your opinions on the subject ?  Cheesy

You should definitely not wish it, especially if only to increase the value of bitcoin.

On topic though, I am confident that a global disaster, especially one of a financial nature, would surely push the value of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in a upward trend. When people are scared that their fiat will lose value they will store it in something they know will be much safer and crypto can provide that safety. Even if banks get robbed or buildings explode, bitcoin will still remain there, stable and un-hackable as ever.
475  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: DIY FPGA Mining rig for any algorithm with fast ROI on: June 26, 2018, 07:04:17 AM
Thank you for your great effort! Is there any website where anyone can download all your released bitstreams for all FPGA boards you have developed the bitstreams for? I see only Keccak on http://zetheron.com.

Not sure if i remember correctly but you might have some luck checking out the FPGA discord group: (https://discord.gg/25DpDCS). Not sure if thats where i saw it, but i once saw downloads links to bitstreams from that or some other discord group.

Anyway, just stumbled upon the Zetheron website recently. Congratulations to whitefire, senseless, GPUhoarder, and everyone else that has pushed this to succeed. Hopefully this is a step towards further decentralization away from ASICS.
476  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Need to know hashrates on these GPUs on: June 26, 2018, 06:59:01 AM
Hello, I was wondering how many hashes per second, the AMD Radeon R7 240 4GB, Nvidia GeForce GT730 4 GB and NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX1060 produces on the following coins:
Ethereum
Zcash
Monero

Your first 2 GPU options are garbage and not even worth trying.

If you got the larger memory 1060 6GB you can try mining ETH with that one. You can also mine XMR with it.

It uses very little power and you will make a little everyday. However if you want more money than try to get at least an GTX 1070 or 1080Ti.

I agree on the fact that the first two GPUs mentioned are completely useless in mining (unless you have free electricity and a multi-GPU motherboard readily available).

If the OP truly wants to try and start mining then he/she could use the 1060. However, the coin to be mined would vary depending on the size of the 1060's RAM. For 3GB cards you would be mining Equihash coins like Musiccoin. If the OP has a 6GB variant of the 1060 then he/she could mine Ethereum. Good luck!
477  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best coin to buy a cup of Coffee? on: June 26, 2018, 06:45:52 AM
So what's the best coin to buy a cup of Coffee with? Transaction cost must not be expensive and the transaction must complete before the Coffee gets cold...  Cool

Where i'm from, it's crypto is still growing and there are no retail outlets already accepting crypto as payment for coffee. However, if there ever is gonna be one to accept crypto payments soon, I would be hoping that they accept Ethereum. Spoiler alert, i am a big fan of bitcoin, but Ethereum really takes the cake when it comes to transaction speed and cost.

Hopefully i'll be able to drink a cup of bitcoin soon.
478  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Gtx 1060 3gb obsolete now ? on: June 25, 2018, 11:59:10 PM
If you have 1060 3GBs right now (which you seem to do) and aren't asking because you plan on buying new ones, then they aren't obsolete and aren't too bad to use for mining different coins other than Ethereum. These 1060s are only obsolete for mining Ethereum because like others said, the Ethereum DAG file size is already too large to be handled by GPUs with 3GB and below.

Monero and Lyra2rev aren't exactly coins that the 1060 3GBs excel in mining. I'd mention other coins that are profitable for the 1060 but i'd let you do your own research. But just so you know, there are other coins out there that are giving me a good profit.
479  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Help with AMD Vega GPU Hashing Issues on: June 25, 2018, 06:45:31 AM
Hi Guys, figured it out, Vegas are very sensitive.  So what I finally did after spending hours on this was to add an Nvidia card.  This is an old Nvidia card from an old PC and now I'm hashing 1800 h/s per card.  Just took forever trying to figure it out.

Pretty weird that your solution to fix an issue with your AMD GPU is to install an NVIDIA GPU.

Your problem probably had to do with AMD driver's compute mode settings. Possibly, you were using a driver version that required you to manually turn on "compute mode" but then this was automatically done for you because when you installed a new GPU, the AMD driver settings also screwed themselves up in a way that made your GPU run on different drivers (do you have the aug. 23 blockchain driver also installed?).
480  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: FPGA miner for altcoin on: June 22, 2018, 09:47:59 AM
Claymore doesn´t build the algorithm´s, he only made a front end and small improvements.

In case of monero / cryptonight, the algo was build by w0lf.
Claymore only use the algo from w0lf, and receive so much. w0lf only receice the bounty for this job.

Let me calculate  Huh no bounty ... nothing for the bitstream-dev.

Any truth to this? I'd appreciate if you could post a reference link maybe to show maybe how this happened?

This is why dev fees are now preferred over the bounty and one-time fixed costs. Look at all the mining software out there, the best ones are those that have a small dev fee embedded in them. Without dev fees, developers are less motivated to work on improving the software.
