621  Economy / Economics / Re: Are You Sticking to Your Plan or Has Life Made You Pause or Modify It? on: November 03, 2023, 11:33:26 AM
We often advise newcomers asking about successful Bitcoin investment strategies to have a well-structured plan and stick to it no matter what. Nevertheless if there is anything I have learned is that in bitcoin investment it  is rarely a linear journey. And despite our best intentions and meticulous planning, unforeseen circumstances can disrupt our initial plans. For the community I want to know, has your investment plan always unfolded as expected or have unexpected events caused you to pause or modify your plan? Despite our best efforts there are instances where sticking rigorously to a plan becomes challenging due to the unpredictable nature of life.
100%. I've changed from bothering myself to learning to trade to just DCA Bitcoin. I'm glad I realized early on that trading was not for me, I sucked at patiently waiting for changes and the plan for long-term trading turned into a short-term loss instead. I've never tried my hand at shorts again after that and I doubt I'd ever will again really. It probably didn't help that strategies were a thing of my dreams back then. Now DCA is kind of a simple strategy but it has so far been rather effective, I'm still on the plus side after investing when BTC dropped to 20k ish levels last time.
622  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are Altcoins Fake? on: November 02, 2023, 11:07:45 PM
~
Well, most altcoins are shitcoins you can't deny that. At this point, I'd consider it a shitcoin till it's not something to live by really. The majority of altcoins are projects that ask for a loan to create their project after all instead of, well, presenting a real product/service that they can sell. That or they produce services that are close to useless or are just imaginary instead of anything real. While it wouldn't be that hard for someone with plenty of money to filter through projects and invest in a substantial amount that he thinks can profit, your average joe probably just looks at 10, 20 projects and decides on one to invest in. And if it flunks, money goes poof, which was everything, or close to everything he had.
623  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Nigerians spend $975m daily on online betting on: November 02, 2023, 10:57:37 PM
Data from the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF) has revealed that over 65 million Nigerians actively engage in betting, spending an average of $15 daily. This is just as it disclosed that everyday, 14 million bet takes and payments are made online in the country. continue reading here....

Recalled that Nigeria population is estimated to be around 200+million and from the information above, over 65 million people are engaged in gambling on a daily basis amounting to over 32% of the country population. With the recent economic crisis and hardship affecting almost all the nations, if large number of people are spending this much on betting, can we say that they relied on gambling to survive?

But, I think we need to know how much betting sites are paying out daily too, so we can make comparison.  Grin
Idrk if that's big. Do we have any comparison to say, other countries or maybe even other industries instead? But well considering how hard it is to find a constant well-paying job, I don't think it'd be odd that some people would just go fuck it and rely on something like gambling. I reckon a small or close to half might just be your average salary worker that can afford that $15 spending, though most likely every now and then instead of daily.

Plus the number might actually be higher since there may be some local tables of gamblers that gather around to play. Not too out of the window to think about it tbh.
624  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Stop the self entitlement claims on others gamblers winnings. on: November 02, 2023, 10:26:30 PM
Getting to X  (twitter) some people started dragging and criticizing the gambler and calling him names, that the N100k he gave to the punters out of N15.5M he had won was too small and that he could have done better. Below in the image  is one of many tweets from the critics.
"too small" Jesus christ people are rather entitled sometimes. From what I've seen from other posts it was told that said punter was the reason for the win but in the end, it's not like they had a contract/agreement for said bet and the money should've come from the person themselves, not the punter. That N100k should be more than enough as a show of appreciation imo since there could've been nothing instead really. Now this ain't nothing new, but it's like asking the lottery winner to give you 1/10 of the prize money because you "contributed" one of the numbers when asked earlier (sometimes I know people who ask others a number or two for their lotteries). Kinda dumb if you think about it like that.
625  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you use multiple platforms for betting? on: November 02, 2023, 11:54:42 AM
The strategy of funding accounts on multiple bookmakers is known to be used by people that want to catch the best odds when betting on sports for example. Sometimes people will monitor multiple platforms and bet when the odds allow then for a safe win. However, I am not sure if this strategy would be worth attempting when doing crypto-based betting on the sports books that offer it.

What are your thoughts on this? When you bet with crypto do you find it easier or harder to fund multiple accounts? Because I am getting a sense that crypto bettors are more compelled to shop around a lot more, but only until they find a bookmakers that fits their needs, and then they will hardly move any funds to other platforms. Surely thete must be some reasons behind this or even some very different takes. What are your thoughts?
Haven't tried it but afaik a few others have asked around if this was possible (or if others are doing it) iirc. I personally don't give a damn, if I find a good bookie that I feel with I'd stay till I get tired or some sort of issue crops up, but that's my personal opinion on these types of stuff. I don't necessarily try to "min-max" (it's a gaming term , kind of apt to use here) so I don't really mind but hey if that's their go-to strat, I don't think it matters much.

As for crypto users not generally doing what you pointed out, I just think those you met or know don't do it? I reckon there's still a substantial amount of crypto gamblers who does said strategy though.
626  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Brand completely associated with crypto on: November 02, 2023, 04:54:39 AM
What if I launch a cosmetic brand completely associated with crypto in some way. Like , the purchase of cosmetic products of my company being available only with certain alt coin.

That's one way to start a business but it is available for purchase only using that specific altcoin can be a pain in the ass and might scare away a lot of customers imo. Even with the option of being able to buy that specific altcoin in the shop, most people have shortened attention spans right now so they'd most probably shy away from buying said products still. In addition, it's a completely new brand, so you can't expect a loyal follower base that can help the business stay afloat until the coin gets more notice from others.

Other than that issue I reckon it's pretty good. The same issues from regular businesses would naturally crop up but that's part of the process.
627  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who among you here is gambling at work? on: November 02, 2023, 01:14:01 AM
~
Literally balls to the walls huh. New to the topic but I know someone from work (two of them in fact) that are active gambler. You can legit hear them screaming mad when their teams for sports betting or their bets go awol because of a bad spin game. From what I can see though they don't really affect their work performance that much, and even the noise they make isn't that bad to affect the efficiency of their work mates, at least from the past few months that I've been in the company anyway.

Well the fact that the work is relatively leisure might be part of being able to do it properly while gambling though.
628  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is this how it start? (No or yes?) on: November 01, 2023, 09:52:03 AM
~
Not really no. Even when I was pseudo-addicted, I was fully aware of when I played and what happened with what I bet. It was rather helpful that I always set a specific amount for each session immediately before I even start, so that after said bets happen, if I ever do want to play again, I just plan it out and list it in a small notebook I had for expenses. Also, I reckon you're not really "asking" yourself "when", more like you're making fun of the situation after realizing what happened. I reckon that's a sign of not addiction since you realized it anyway. At least for now, that is.
629  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Most you have ever lost in one session? on: November 01, 2023, 04:33:34 AM
What is the most money you have ever lost in one session? could be land base casino or crypto casino.

mine was $200,000 on Stake.com 2 weeks ago
Let's just say it's chump change compared to what you said was yours. Rather embarrassing to post it in public but as a clue, it's less than a quarter of what you've bet. Said amount of yours is rather staggering though, probably the yearly salary (or maybe even less than most people really). I doubt the majority here could even reach half of what you bet on for a single session. If we consider how most people bet only a part of their monthly income, then you'd be earning quite a lot in a single month. Rather incredible really. Both the capability to earn that much and the courage to bet such a huge amount.
630  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Health Benefits of Gambling on: November 01, 2023, 01:45:15 AM

"Stress reliever" LMAO. Well I guess the minority can take it as such, but really, most games that involve win/loss in them are never the types you'd consider for "stress relief", especially if you take them rather seriously. It can be one if you don't mind it but if you can do that, I'm pretty sure you don't need to gamble, you'd be able to handle stress itself rather well without any assistance.

I guess the only good idea here was the risk-taking idea, I mean I learned how to manage myself when taking risks. I was a mess before whenever I had to make a big decision to the point where I just wanted to run. Gambling kind of handled that by, well, making me think more in a less stressful environment.
631  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you ever been a gambling addict? on: October 31, 2023, 11:29:54 AM
I see a lot of people here talking about gambling responsibly. Yes, that is something very true, but have you ever been a gambling addict?

To be honest in the past I have spent a lot of money gambling. What I mean here is that I spent all my savings on gambling. Maybe the nominal amount is not that big but it makes me feel like a gambling addict. I spent 5 months of my savings on gambling. Currently I am aware and am in the stage of improving my own financial condition. Have you ever felt like a gambling addict? and how much did you lose in gambling?
A bit I guess? I was able to hit a somewhat big cashout one time (relatively big compared to my usual bets/wins) and like a week or two after that I was like a zombie that had its mind corroded by the possibility of me winning. I lost that entire winning of mine in like 3 days, but my mind set was like "Eh, I'll just hit it again". I went and proceeded to lose like 3x or 4x of said amount later on. It was a gradual loss though so I lost more early on and as I lose, I kept reducing the bets and slowly had the realization that I was doing dumb decisions.
632  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Between Profit And Conscience on: October 30, 2023, 11:52:27 PM

Considering that a lottery approached him due to the location, don't you think there'd also be other businesses, ones that could generate more profit than lotteries approach your friend instead? If the words were just for negotiation then things might be different though. But anyway, if the location is indeed THAT good and your friend doesn't need money immediately, then just wait for better offers I guess if he really doesn't want to.

But Morals? Really? Psh, morals ain't going to stand shit when you're dealing with businesses. If he really was that mindful of his morals he would've idk, built an orphanage, a church, or whatever "good" thing society thinks in that lot of theirs.
633  Economy / Economics / Re: choose an option on: October 30, 2023, 11:06:02 PM
~
C would be a natural choice for most, it's priced at $24k so what you would receive is actually greater than $480k at the very least. If another pick, then I'd go for B. I don't really need a house and even if the price appreciates over time, having that lump sump of $480k spread over various investment options sounds much more promising. Business, well, I have no idea how that works so hell nah. As for gold, well, it can be a third option but I'd still much rather prefer the lump sum compared to gold.
634  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can loneliness make one addicted to gambling on: October 30, 2023, 11:56:16 AM
~
Anything can be a solution to loneliness, gambling can be one of them, but gambling can also be not one of them. There's probably a lot of other worse things that can be done other than gambling really, like drinking madly, going psycho every now and then or maybe even comitting crimes. Gambling is kind of light, unless ofc it evolve sinto something completely unstoppable in which case, is not necessarily worse than the other stuff I've said.

In the first place, I reckon gambling can only be an alternate if you have someone that recommended it OR you already know about gambling. In early cases you don't necessarily become an "addict" immediately, so rather easy to remedy and fix if noticed early.
635  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What according to you should be the age to retire from gambling ? on: October 30, 2023, 02:19:04 AM
Many believe that gambling is for young people online as they need thrill and and fun. But I think that even old people can enjoy gambling. There should be any age to retire from gambling at all. One can do this activity and leisure time and thus it does not affect retirement related activities also.
I don't think it matters? It's not a strenuous activity though it can be a roller coaster of emotions so maybe heart attacks or something similar can happen. But if you're clear of that I reckon you're able to play it for as long as you want really. Naturally, it's best if you avoid anything that can push your emotions to an extreme, gambling is one of them so if asked, but there are some people regardless of age who can keep their calm and at the same time, there can also be younger people who can't handle their emotions so I guess it depends on that.

Understanding what you can and can't do should be easily understandable by people of older age (at least, the majority of them I hope) anw so I reckon they can recognize whether they can play or not.
636  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Solves This - Money and Banking on: October 30, 2023, 01:08:04 AM
~
It was mostly because Bitcoin was a new idea, something that not much is known to your average joe. Banks were seen as the staple, something normal and something you'd inevitably experience and be a part of when you grow up, so the concepts and ideas were simplified to only things you'd ever really need, and as for the rest, you'd only ever need them until you actually need them. Not to mention a lot of businesses and partnerships are built on top of the idea that banks exist and can help with, for example, payroll for companies.

Even after I've read some stuff about financing, I still don't really understand a large majority of it, I doubt I ever will really. It did help me realize early on about the importance of understanding money though.

637  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Elon Musk predicts X will replace banks in 2024 - The Verge on: October 29, 2023, 10:38:42 AM
The idea of making a rocket seemed unrealistic, just like the concept of Tesla products, but Elon Musk was determined to make it all happen. This guy was a world billionaire right now. Nothing is impossible for someone who has unlimited money.
He can build the bank easily. It's not even an unrealistic idea anymore. Elon was a genius guy in this decade and he is also having everything. It's not even impossible anymore for him to make it happen with his money.
I think that this is not even also relating to the doge coin as well.
The thing is there isn't really much in terms of being regulated (I'm not sure about the term) in those types of industries in comparison to banks. Maybe the safety physical check of the Teslas/Rockets, but they're pretty different from the things you need to tackle when trying to "replace" banks. Not that I'm doubting whether Elon can do it or not. As you've said, he has a lot of assets that can support what he wants, it's just that things are rather different between being able to make it and being trusted by the people. Not to mention the shitshow he had with X when he got it, implementation of whatever he wants may take more time than he actually expect and not just a single year.
638  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Anti-Gambling Tools on: October 29, 2023, 10:12:28 AM
~
Find something else to do, a replacement so to speak. Some prevention tools like website blocker or even the self-exclusion route you've done can easily be bypassed if you really want to. By replacing it with something else, you effectively block the gambling addiction part with a replacement addiction instead, one that's fine for you to be in or at least can be controlled a lot easier than gambling. Not really addiction tbf, maybe distraction can be more apt.

I've never really had issues with my gambling since I can control it rather well, not to mention my advice of finding something else to do, in my case which is drawing. Which can, btw be really time consuming.
639  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Greed or risk on: October 29, 2023, 01:11:40 AM
I saw this image below on one of my friend's WhatsApp statuses earlier today. I don't know if the game was played by him or if it was an image saved from somewhere, but the image got me thinking, and we got into a debate because of that.

I was telling someone that if I'm the one to have such a slip and the game is already showing me to cash out such an amount of money, which is equal to $865 based on our local exchange rate, seeing such an amount as cash out available and leaving it will make me appear like someone who is too greedy, but the guy was telling me it's not being greedy but it's all about taking risks. The debate didn't end well, so I decided to bring this up here to see the responses from experienced gamblers.

Lucky for anyone who ever has that bet slip, it seems like the game played in his favour.
"Appear too greedy"? That's not a thing, why would you give a damn about what others think of your bets? It might be a different thing if you were spending money from others like a madman, but if not, then really it's not anyone's business to care about it unless asked for. The other side didn't even need to entertain you ngl.

Honestly, this only becomes an issue if and only if said gambler has problems with money. Say if the money came from debts, or from family, then admonishing him can be possible regardless of whatever reason you have, anyway it's good for him. If not and he's living rather well and balancing it? Just let him be.
640  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Not a casual fan but want to participate in sportsbetting on: October 28, 2023, 11:53:43 PM
Follow the heart, is if what you want is to enjoy the experience. Back when I first started I usually just went and bet on the teams that I "think" will win, which is based on past tournaments that I personally watched and general sentiment plus whatever I think about them. Kind of unreliant and looks unprofessional yes, but hey I enjoyed the heck out of it.

If you really want to go at it, then looking at news about the players can be a thing, they're mindset can be often affected by what others think about them. Idk if NBA has one, but I usually look at "wikipedia" like pages of team/tournament information such as matchups, players, etc. Even a casual fan of the game like me started looking at stuff like this after a tournament or two. Kind of fun to think what would happen and see what actually happens differ from what you think sometimes.
