641  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / bitcoin core not syncing? on: January 19, 2015, 08:03:22 AM
so, apparently my bitcoin core stopped syncing sometime friday. i'd been working all weekend and only noticed a couple hours ago... it had been running, trying to sync 2 days worth for about 8 hours. is there some network side reason for this, or is it my end? possibly corrupt blockchain?

i've found cryptowatch.com to be a decent alternative to this for my admittedly simple needs.

What's the most bullish thing imaginable? I would like some brainstorming please.

The US government announces plans to buy 25 million bitcoins over the next 3 months.

It sounds like they should read the white paper first :/

TL;DR

Where is it The Honorable Doctor Professor Jorge Stolfi works again? I need to know so I can advice my children never to apply there.

pretty sure it's an argentinian school. south american for sure.

WTB 1000 MAGIC: THE GATHERING CARDS

What's the going price for magic the gathering cards?

It's not easy to figure out without a Magic The Gathering Online eXchange.

there is, in fact, an app for that actually...

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gelakinetic.mtgfam&hl=en

i know way to much about something i don't play.

first chart check of the day for me just now. what in the ever living fuck happened!?

i mean, jesus. it's not quite half what the previous ath was (266 i mean. half being 133, obviously) but jesus. this is crazy. did i miss some epic fail news? big hack or something? i know bitstamp got hit for 19k btc, but this seems like more then that since it's spread across exchanges.

No crazy negative news mate.
I guess weak hands are just scared & selling because they think it's the end.

well then, i better get buying... oh wait, uber lowered the rates so i'm making diddly... nevermind.

least my interview with netflix today went well. want me back for a second one. all well wishes accepted and get a satoshi! Cheesy

What's this about an interview with netflix?

I didn't know.
I'm quite high so explain well Cheesy

i had a job interview with them this morning for a customer service position. yes, netflix actually has a customer service phone number.

unrelated to bitcoin. just me digging for good vibes. Cheesy

My bet: nobody has any rationale for this hysterical selling and dumping. Or did I miss something?

Ya... u missed something.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2sdwf8/butterfly_labs_is_the_culprit/

interesting read. to sum up: BFL has some 90k btc and has been order to make customers whole. to do sell, gotta sell, whatever the price.

at least that's what the poster on reddit proposes.

i'm curious (and really damned confused) as well. what the hell is going on?

i am absolutely amazed to see the price so low. it's actually a little heart wrenching.

It's a shoe rack turned on it's side Smiley

i love finding excellent uses for items that weren't intended for the purpose. always a small little satisfying smile results.

In other news, anyone any good with resumes and linked in profiles? Mine Sucks, and I suspect improving that would make a big difference in a job hunt.
https://alis.alberta.ca/js/eps/hotline/resume.html

You'll have to fudge the resume a bit, since they only help people in Alberta.

I'm out working right now (sitting in a parking lot) but that looks promising. Thanks.

Well, last night should prove the perfect experiment with the new rates and such. Almost exactly 1 trip per hour, and well under the described minimums. So, when the do the adjustments (i expect early Monday) I'll know the reality of the changes.

Everyone will get paid back. That's not even in question. I might need more time though. I'll know more monday, when I can see the results of this weekend.

Does your price cut have anything to do with this?
http://gizmodo.com/these-48-cities-are-getting-cheaper-uber-rides-1678453393

Although the article does mention that driver wages aren't being cut for those cities.

that's it, yes.

they're dropping rates by about 25%, but adding guaranteed minimums. i got the clarification i wanted - basically they added a minimum wage. in my city (it varies by location) that's about 15 an hour during the peak times friday and saturday nights, and 9.50 or so the rest. this may actually improve my pay, depending on actual business. it means, at a minimum, i'll make about 500 a week. unfortunately i have car payments of 220 a week. add gas, insurance, phone, etc - you get the idea.

i used to make about 400 a week - AFTER the car payment, thanks to busy nights. we'll see how things go.

obviously, i'm actively looking for something else, as this is getting ridiculous.

thanks for the update.  Sorry to hear it.  Are you expecting to be late on these loans?

honestly, i have no idea. if the guaruntee they mentioned is as simple as they are trying to make it, then i will be actually doing better then ever, by a little anyway. right now i just don't know. i've already emailed asking for more info.

if that is the case, then there's no problems. if that's NOT the case, then yea, late. but right now i don't have enough verified info.

so, after a shitty december, janruary isn't off to a great start. my paycheck from last week was $161. i'm just falling forther and further behind on bills instead of getting ahead of them.

and then tonight uber sent out and email informing us they're cutting the rates by 25%. also said something about minimum garuntees, but it was so vague i have no idea what they mean.

i'll be lucky if i can even make enough to have gas next week.

to say i'm upset is an understatement in the extreme. i'm at a complete loss.

frankly if i knew where uber's offices actually were i'd probably be in jail for assault by now...

who knows. maybe a miracle will happen before the end of the month. given my luck, i doubt it though.
