701  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup on: December 05, 2013, 03:24:03 PM
How loud are these?  I just ordered one, but kinda forgot that I am going to have to keep it inside since I don't have an easy way to run an ethernet cable outside... although Canary did point me in the direction of something that might work around that, I don't know if it's something I want to try just yet.

702  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: mining? on: December 05, 2013, 03:13:10 PM
I will probably buy 3 Used amd 7950 for around 200$ each in Sweden new 7950 cost around 400$ so it's tio much i already got à CPU ram etc i Will only need to buy a motherboard and some cables
I got totally free electricity how
Much should I expect to get in 1 month and when does Asics
come to scrypt

1) You can use this information to find the hashrate for your cards that you want to use:

https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison

As you can see you should expect 600-700kH/s with those cards... if you get 3 then you can expect 1.8-2.1MH/s.  Then go to a calculator like this one:

https://www.litecoinpool.org/calc?hashrate=2000&difficulty=1964.83427079&power=&energycost=0.10&currency=USD

And you can plug in the numbers.  You should get right around 1LTC a day which is worth about $40 right now.

2) ASICs will never come to Scrypt.  Something new will come along before someone takes the time and money to properly develop a Scrypt ASIC.  Of course, I hope I am wrong on that.

Smiley It is not so easy, If you want GPU mine, check your electricity rates and use mining calculator before buying GPUs Wink

That is an understatement.  GPU mining can be very tedious, time consuming, and frustrating.  It can take several trips to electronics stores to find parts, and then wait times on ordering supplies like risers, PSU cables, etc.  But it can also be quite fun and definitely profitable.  I don't know anywhere in the world that the electricity rates would be so high as to you not turn a profit if you don't factor in the cost of the GPU.  And I don't factor that in because most of the GPUs still retain their value through resale.  The 5850 I bought in April for $60 will still sell for about $60 today.

3x5850 = 1MH/s hashrate and supplied on 850W PSU, if 850W is used 24/7 for a month, the profit expected is:

.491 LTC a day * 30 days = 14.73 LTC = $534 at current price

Total kilowatt hours used during the month = 30(days) x 24(hours) x .850 (kilowatts per hour) = 612 KW hours*
*it will be lower than this since I don't think it's possible for a 850W PSU to constantly draw 850W from the wall, but we will just say that it does anyways

For a mining rig of this nature to be unprofitable then your electricity would have to be $0.87/KW hour or higher.  In comparison, the typical high average that I have seen is $0.15-0.25 which would mean you are turning electricity into 300-600% of the cost of straight up buying the coins.

I see absolutely no reason why anyone would have idle miners at this time, and cannot for the life of me understand why so many people can blindly say "mining is not profitable anymore"

Good luck on ebay!

You should be able to make more money there... ya know, before they skim 20% off the top and then PayPal sticks you for another 35% or whatever their new rape plan is...
704  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: mining? on: December 05, 2013, 02:26:19 PM
I think everyone telling you not to mine either has no understanding of how mining works or they are just trolling.

I asked the same questions, ran the numbers, then bought some cheap 5850s... they have more than paid for themselves by this point and also got me a few more GPUs.

Everyone saying "mining is unprofitable" are probably mining right now and don't want you to take all their coins as if they will be able to prevent all new miners from entering the market.

Mining is not good for now.. sorry

Please elaborate.

You seem ill informed.

Wish you guys were in the US.  Shipping time and cost is way to much.

We are looking at it - unfortunately the costs of operating in the US are exhorbitant; moulding costs, warehousing, staff costs, and a metric ton of costs associated with compliance. We'd end up having to nearly double our price to be profitable. The only benefit would be faster shipping to our US clients.

How about a US reseller?

707  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why do I keep hearing mining is unprofitable? on: December 05, 2013, 05:09:19 AM
All of that makes me think that Cointerra, BFL and other companies are mining right now with these new fancy chips. They make really good money and sell the equipment in Q1/Q2 when we still have a small chance to earn something. And several months later we sell our miners to total noobs and waiting for new open pre-orders of more powerful miners.

That is a fair assessment (and a cruel reality) for the mining business since ASICs have become some prevalent (and fraudulent)

Moral of the story, stick to one coin (litecoin) and call it even.

I agree with this... I enjoyed middlecoin because it paid out in Bitcoin and was usually higher than straight LTC mining.

I will probably check it out again early next year when I finish building my rig.
709  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why do I keep hearing mining is unprofitable? on: December 05, 2013, 04:34:48 AM
makes me wanna move into an all bills paid apartment and use up all the energy! lol

I think that's the wrong way to look at it...

If you already have the equipment, you should be mining with it... if you have the money to buy the equipment, then you should probably just buy the Bitcoins.

Oh, that's more stupid then a thought.  lol, I guess if those people were really THAT lazy...

Tons of people are THAT lazy... but they are also not the types of people to invest $1000 into someone/something without collateral.

Figured I would give it a whirl.  I got the room for it and the power supply, but Christmas drained my "me" funds.  I'd like to get the max order of 6 of them and just resell them while they mine.  But, I don't have 6 BTC, only 1zero.something Cheesy

See, I actually want to buy about 3 - 4 right now, BUT it's a bit hard to believe I'll be making $100 + USD a day by doing nothing, and break even in 1.5 months.  It just seems too good to be true, the difficulty will probably increase before I can get the ROI back.  Other than that, I'd be a go and invest a couple thousand.  Anyways, good luck to you!

Research the difficulty a bit and you should feel better about the investment.  It'd have to double 3x in a row of 40% or more and I just don't think that is possible at this point in time.  You would need the power of all of the new ASIC preorders that are coming out in 2014 to add that kind of hashing power to increase it that much.

3x in a row of 40% and you are likely breaking even.  The highest consecutive streak of 40%+ this year was in October, the third was only 16% so it'd be making a profit.

At current cryptocurrency prices, this card generates ~$15 /day, so I'm in no rush to sell and respectfully decline the above offers. If there are any serious offers, feel free to PM.

at 350kH/s you get 0.17917029 LTC per day.  That's $7.16/day @ $40/LTC

but, I think the only reason to sell a card right now is because you can't find a mobo to stick it in Cheesy

He can mine altcoins.

Right, and if he does that I would love to see how he increases his profits over 200% of Litecoin mining by doing so on a consistent basis.

This is one more thing I don't get. I also read about it in group buys. They say: "when our group miners are no longer profitable we sell them and share the money". But who is going to buy non-profitable miners?

Here ya go.  People are always buying non-profitable miners... I have no idea why.

Honestly, Bitcoin mining is not profitable anymore. Any coin's mining returns good ROI in its initial stages.

Except that it is...

Buy a Cube, run it for 2 months, sell the Cube.  You will end up with more BTC than you started with.  I guarantee it.

That is IF you can get a cube right this second.

How long before those cubes ship?

Knowing CanaryInTheMine, I'll probably have it in hand in the next 7-10 days.

It should break even in about 45-60 days after I receive it... lead time was already taken into account.

6 * 0.06 are 0.36 , so it is 0.04 for shipping! and thats not 400!  Wink

Doh!

Well good luck.  I wouldn't be spending 0.4btc on 1.8GH/s unless it was just to give as collectors items or Christmas gifts to friends or family or something.

Those things are generating ~0.0002btc a day each.  If you get all 6 in the mail, and all of them rocking 336MH/s then you are making about 0.0012btc each day.. for 12-14 days.  Difficulty doesn't look to be going down any time soon... in the words of Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor.  MORE POWER!
