721  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 20MB Fork on: February 20, 2015, 08:01:05 AM
The HD space is marginal and the greater concerns are with bandwidth costs. The cost to run a full node will likely increase from 20 usd a year to ~5 dollars a month for many people in the future. This isn't a lot of money but still may put further downward pressure upon the amount of nodes. This isn't unresolvable but we should be aware of it.

5$ per month while you control your own money seems good for me. You definitely pay more to your bank and you do not control your money. Also this issue is only for US (I guess). There are places where internet is cheaper and places where internet is more expensive so this 5$/mo doesn't apply to everyone.

Quote
Your not making a lot of sense here, most of these people in this thread all want what is best for bitcoin and we just disagree on the solution to get there. I have been discussing specific solutions to resolve this problem, and am trying to get more specifics as to what degree of security or decentralization people against the hard fork expect to move forward.
You suggest that we cannot know how many miners it takes to secure the network but this also isn't true as we can make very good estimates of the costs it takes to attack the network and what the risks are based upon the amount of hashing power.

And this can not be applied to full nodes too? I am sure that we can estimate here too.

Quote
My questions are aimed at the people against this hardfork to understand what degree of decentralization and security which would make them comfortable as their primary concern deals with the risk of centralization and decrease of nodes.

I wasn't aware that this topic was aimed at the people against the hardfork. My mistake.
722  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: February 20, 2015, 06:57:46 AM
While the BitFury Mining Center article is interesting, it is from August of 2014. It explicitly mentions CoinTerra as a competitor and it's planned Canada data center. Things can and do change a lot in the 6 months since that article was written (e.g. the exit of CoinTerra). I personally expect the next halving to be a fairly disruptive event.

Don't compare BitFury with ConTerra. Bitfury had a 110GH/s rig back in the FPGA days when miners were having <1Th/s rigs. Plus the fact that they received tons of money from investors. Much over what ConTerra raised.
723  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 20MB Fork on: February 20, 2015, 06:10:11 AM
No, the people arguing against this hardfork do indeed have some valid concerns. We don't want one or a few centralized sources to store archival or reference full historical nodes for us to bootstrap pruned nodes or partial DHT based nodes from.

So because people don't want to invest XXX$ for a X TB HDD you think that they have a valid concern? People need to learn that they need to pay for services if they want to be their own bank. Investing in a dedicated HDD for keeping the full blockchain should be viewed as a personal security measure, not something that should be rejected from the start. The banks charge people huge amounts of fees that offer a huge variety of hidden services for the customers (safety of their vaults, safety when moving money, safety when it comes to hackers, safety when it comes to failures etc). People think that if they get rid of their bank they will never have to pay any other fee and that is simply wrong.

Quote
The question is how many would be sufficient to secure the network?

How many miners do we need to secure the network? The answer is that we do not know, but we can make it very expensive and not efficient for someone to try to trick the system. Just like we did with mining where someone would need to invest a shitload of money in order to disrupt the network. It's simply not economical to do so. We can have it the same with the blockchain, but only if people stop being so against everything and start thinking of reasonable ways to deal with the problem.

We live in a consumerism world where people gladly pay $600+ for a phone which they use for 1-3 years, but they do not want to pay 50$-200$+ for something which guarantees them their security when it comes to bitcoin. That's stupid and it shows what a limited view people generally have when it comes to being able to manage their stuff alone. I am sure that this will change, but it will take a bit of time because we need some time to digest this just like with everything else.

P.S... While I applaud TBF attempt at addressing our concerns with the lack of full nodes with this program -
https://getaddr.bitnodes.io/nodes/incentive/

I think it is insufficient and frankly quite pathetic attempt at a real growing problem.

May I ask you what have you done about this? How many full nodes have you setup? Or you are just waiting for others to solve this issue? A decentralized consensus network needs to be sustained by everyone and everyone should be involved somehow. Waiting only for others to solve issues is not the correct way to do it. You/Everyone need/s to get involved instead of just complaining about various things. (btw this is not a personal attack. it's just a general speaking)

Unless you intend on buying it, there's no reason to argue about the price. Just let the man sell his own property for what he wants to get out of it.

+1. Complaining about the price is pointless. If you don't like the price make an offer via PM and move along if it gets rejected.

Good luck with the sale!

P.S. Free bump Smiley

I absolutely agree that for those of us who invested and lost money there are lessons to be learned.  I have learned from this experience myself.

What have you learned?

I genuinely believe that Ken set out with an American dream however things didn't work out for him for numerous reasons, not least of all the rise in difficulty, unexpected Moon-shot missed trajectory and the untimely hash per chip offered by rivals which forced a rethink in strategy. Against all odds he kept the dream alive way beyond it's expirey date.  THAT IS A FACT.

American dream my ass. An American dream doesn't mean that your investors should blindly follow you while you do not provide one single hard proof of what you are trying to do.

My part in all of that was to try and delay the storm in the hope that we'd all get to collect a pot of gold IF the fractal appeared, although in hindsight I became more like Cnut the Great and the only rainbows we got to see were those offered by our little sociopath ponies.

Thanks for admitting that you knew that this was a failure and that you only tried to delay the inevitable. I guess that makes you a accomplice to Ken's lies and thievery.

Quote
He is accountable and has to live with his failure and I sincerely hope he can learn from this and move forward as hopefully the rest of you are doing.

You are greatly mistaken here. Ken has a past of failed businesses and from the looks of it the only think that he learned was how to perfect in his lies. Please prove me otherwise. As for the "accountable" part I can only laugh because I don't see him as being accountable at all. He is all fine and dandy.

I lost £10,000 not $10,000 and it hurt (past tense).  I pick up the pieces and move forward undeterred.  I believe in this technology and have no issues with losing more than I can afford on my next gamble with the expectation that I'll dine guests on my yatch and bore them senseless with stories of how the bitcoin community were once honoured by Volcanic Eruptor's tantrums.  Grin

No! You lost 10k pounds and you kept/keep defending the guy that made you lose that money instead of hunting him down.

You believe in the technology, but you want other people to dedicate their time and resources just so you can be on a yacht instead of trying to participate. It's the "lottery" mindset which brings nothing to the table and which allows scumbags like Ken to exist.
726  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 20MB Fork on: February 19, 2015, 08:03:57 AM
But 'succeeding' doesnt necessarily imply bringing it over 'the masses' or the 'african' people...

This is retard thinking imho.

Bitcoin is not cash, bitcoin is not gold, bitcoin is not money.
Bitcoin is Bitcoin and we're still experimenting it.
So stop pretending you know what to do or what not to do.
Just enjoy the ride.

So because some people who actually invested time and resources in developing stuff related to Bitcoin have a different thinking from yours it's automatically "retard thinking"? And you don't see that as being egomaniac? Ok...

Please share your vision of Bitcoin succeeding because I'm so curious about it.
727  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 3x SP30 Miners on: February 19, 2015, 06:22:35 AM
Any idea on shipping costs to the USA? The way I read is free shipping if I buy all 3?

Shipping is a standard $225/miner out of Iceland via UPS. Free shipping is for any quantity, but tips are welcome  Grin

Bitcoin isn't for everybody.

Who says so? You? Why? Bitcoin IS for everybody, but we just need to agree on how it will be done. (everyone directly on the blockchain or via some other way like sidechains). If you state that "Bitcoin isn't for everybody" I can easily state that "Bitcoin isn't for you" because I want it so.

You can state anything you want -- sure. Does this usually work for you? If so, why are you wasting time on this forum? You could be wishing golden toilets and perpetual motion machines into existence.

I can say the same thing about you and we are in a dead end. You brought nothing new to the topic except citing someone who wants to impose his ways in a consensus network. I am sure that you and his retardness MP will not sense the absurdity of this desire.

Why it was decided to ban Dust regardless of the fee? Why not set a threshold to allow dust for a stupendus fee?

That would be stupid. Why pay a stupendous fee to output dust when you can just not output dust for less than the fee+dust?

Because miners love fat fees and they don't care about the dust and if someone wants to "dust" the blockchain why not allow them to do that for the proper price?

Thanks for the information, but this is the BTC (SHA-256) mining Forum. You need to post this here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=160.0

Thanks, but your link is to pools section. Blessinghash are selling SHA miners too. This is a hardware section and I believe that I posted the thread to the right place.

EDIT: Will post there too...

It's the Mining (Altcoins) section. The Pools things is a sub-section of the Mining (Altcoins) section Smiley

Still can't believe troll (cypherdoc) received 250 BTC from HashFast just for lurking people on this forum to buy & get scammed, and then crying to HF they haven't payed him 750 BTC more. Scammer got scammed by master scammers.
He didn't get paid 250BTC, he got paid 3000BTC or about $300k at the time.

That's a lot of money only to eat shit...

In that case let's lower the block size to say 50KB, get some more competition.

Sure, but please first demonstrate how there's currently not enough of it.

Who said that there's currently not enough block size? Don't change the subject. I see it just as preparing for the future. When you see that you are running out of gas you don't wait until you are out in order to refill.
739  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: February 14, 2015, 12:23:00 PM
No, I'm against you because you think you can't pimp SPtech gear without bashing the competition.

I am not that type of guy. I am not bashing the competition because I am trying to pimp SPTech gear. I am bashing any company that I like and my history proves it. Bashed KnC, Labcoin, ActM, TerraHash, HashFail, Cointerra, Avalon. I may have missed some and I think that BITMAIN escaped my bashing or at least they got the least. My bashing has nothing to do with competition. It is only based on their own actions.

If removing my affiliated signature makes any difference when I start to bash then let me know and I would gladly do it. But I have the feeling that you would accuse me of the same stuff even without a signature because...moon.

For a person with forum 'Legendary' status I am quite amazed at the innumerous contradictions to be found in your last post.   Undecided

Please tell me that you are not a native English speaker and all will be forgiven.  Cheesy

Of course.
