741  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Former CIA director: 'We kill people based on metadata' on: March 20, 2017, 03:26:24 PM
More reasons to avoid leaving metadata. I've used a smartphone for months without a SIM card, and now that I've got 2, my mobile data is always set at OFF, and  I only turn on wifi when I need it.
742  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Dogecoin have a future? on: March 20, 2017, 03:18:40 PM
DOGE is a good altcoin, but I've sold all my dogecoins last summer. Being good is not enough. It needs a development team, a marketing team...
743  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as primary currency in Norway on: March 20, 2017, 03:08:59 PM
Just one land developer looking for free PR. But there 2 good reasons not to buy anything in Norway. First one is that it's an awfully cold place. To Americans, Norway is North of Quebec. My last time there was in Mid-April, and there was snow nearly everywhere. Second, Norway is a fascist country. It's impossible to live there without the government watching and controlling your every moves. Don't even think of doing anything anonymously in Norway. Credit cards are everywhere, and taxes are among the highest in the world. BTC wasn't invented to be successful in countries like Norway. BTC was invented to destroy countries like Norway.
744  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why the split and when? on: March 19, 2017, 12:17:32 AM
You have to consider the risk. It would be totally crazy to start a hard fork with only 30% support.
We'll talk about it if BU gains way over 51%.
745  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC Hard fork is a good thing. ETH did very well. on: March 19, 2017, 12:05:06 AM
The hard fork nearly killed ETH. It stayed at half the value it had last Spring for more than 6 months. It only recovered this month. Also, there was more support for the hard fork at ETH than there is now for BU. We sure can hope for the best, but a hard fork is a risky move.
746  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / I've sold all my altcoins! on: March 16, 2017, 10:41:11 PM
That almost came as a surprise. They were on Poloniex with very high selling prices, but they've all been sold this week.
I wasn't expecting that. BTC is way over $1,000 and nearly all altcoins are up. I wonder who's buying at those prices, but I thank them.
747  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Brexit bill approved! What does this mean to bitcoin if anything? on: March 13, 2017, 11:05:53 PM
Quite a few Brits may sell their £ to get BTC, but many, many more will buy $ or €.
I'm not expecting much change, if any. This was expected.
748  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin fork with or without advance notice? on: March 13, 2017, 11:01:59 PM
To fork is like playing with fire. The last example was Ethereum, and we've seen it losing two thirds of its value in barely 2 months. When you are very far from the majority, as is Segwit today, to fork would be like shooting yourself in the foot. I can't expect that to happen soon.
749  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should I exchange one BTC for one month of labor? on: March 12, 2017, 11:37:14 PM
I'd be happy to be paid with BTC. I've already asked for it, but the people I'm working with can't do it. It would just take some organization, with a monthly exchange of a part of my income into cash. Maybe in a few years...
750  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ETF Rejected on: March 12, 2017, 11:30:26 PM
Good news. BTC was never intended to partner with the SEC, the Federal Reserve nor any official institution. BTC was built from scratch, without any input from Wall Street. Let's keep it that way.
751  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: kyc prodecure web template/script on: March 09, 2017, 11:25:29 PM
I guess you're not familiar with KYC regulations. They just can't be respected electronically. You may open a bank account online in some countries, but you will need to send documents by postal mail to prove what you said online, and a human will check everything.
752  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you save bitcoin for fun or for future purpose? on: March 07, 2017, 09:22:14 PM
Saving for fun?
Strange question, I don't anyone saving any kind of currency for fun. Fun is to spend it.
753  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think about blockchain powered cars? on: March 07, 2017, 09:20:46 PM
I'm not convinced a blockchain would be the most appropriate solution for that kind of application. A conventional database (MySQL like), with one table for the vehicles, one table for the users and one table for each user session (eventually with the payment details included) may be better. It would be centralized, but there's no point in making it otherwise. A blockchain is an interesting solution, but it's wrong to think it could replace all databases everywhere.

EDIT: title should be corrected, the cars would not be blockchain powered. There's no energy in a blockchain. It's about managing their driving sessions in a blockchain, which is quite different.
754  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: A hotel booking site that accepts bitcoin on: March 04, 2017, 12:57:24 AM
Actually, booking an hotel with BTC is a great idea, but most travelers are looking for deals, so giving money to a charity isn't in the plan. You have to compete on price.
755  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin adoption in Africa: Bitcoin solving problems in the country on: March 01, 2017, 10:48:10 PM
I bet the person who wrote that article has never been anywhere in Africa...
My advice to someone going there is to carry $500 and 500€ in cash. Small banknotes only. Don't waste time trying to use BTC.
756  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: A hotel booking site that accepts bitcoin on: February 28, 2017, 11:29:12 PM
Sorry, but I don't mix business with charitable activities. I usually spend 100 nights a year in hotels, paying for about half of it (companies I'm working with are paying the other half), and the most important thing is price. The hotel's price (service commission included) shall be as low as possible. I suppose you charge high commissions to give away one half, that's enough to make me want to look elsewhere.
757  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could the Bitcoin be seen as a collectible item ? on: February 28, 2017, 11:17:45 PM
Absolutely not. Being a collector and regularly trading with other collectors, none of us would ever consider collecting BTC.

A collectible is something you can enjoy looking at. Collectors also very much enjoy showing their collectibles to others. You can't do that with BTC.
758  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have Banks conspired to Kill Bitcoin Startups? on: February 26, 2017, 11:48:15 PM
You forgot one important detail.

Not all banks are against BTC, only british ones. We use to think of the UK as a BTC-friendly country, compared to Russia or China which aren't, but it's the opposite which may prove true. I've had no problem dealing BTC in Switzerland, Germany, France or Italy.

The brits have always hated things they couldn't control, and BTC is one of them. They will soon (I hope) leave the European Union, and they should leave BTC as well. The crypto world would be better without them.
759  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: price at all time high while utility at all time low on: February 25, 2017, 06:56:48 PM
All-time-high transactions/day = All-time-high utility

More transactions than ever, and jonald is arguing that this is worse than having 0 transactions/day? hmmmm

You just need to compare with the past to see that the present isn't so good.
When I joined the BTC bandwagon, transactions were faster to confirm than today, and fees were much, much lower. So logic says the price of BTC should be lower.
760  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: price at all time high while utility at all time low on: February 24, 2017, 11:12:49 PM
I've already seen that. BTC is getting disconnected with the real world. Confirmations are taking longer, fees are up, there's still no solution in sight to the scalability problems, but BTC's price is up. I see speculation.
