Upon further investigation it looks like the fans do throttle down but only by a small amount.
I intervened manually once to change some settings so maybe that is the cause ?
The throttling behaviour still occurs so maybe it is a feature to let you know the cards can't take the heat ?
Once they throttle due to breaking past hysteresis and fans are maxed out they don't clock back up still occurs.

Also ( I cannot edit ) I seemed to notice a very strange behaviour with cgminer 2.4.1 and Linux and autofan / autogpu enabled.
When heat builds up around my rigs they do start to go to max set fan value ( say 80% ) and if this is then further accompanied by more heat so that the cards bypass the hysteresis limit ( but they are very far from overheat limit ) they throttle down on the clocks.
I observe that when the source of heat is shutdown and the rigs left to cool the following seems NOT to occur which is quite strange : the cards do not maximize the core clock back up and also the fans spin at maximum set instead of backing down now the rigs are cooler.
Anyone experience the same and know how to fix it ? The cards' clocks not going back up after they have throttled once I can understand but the fans keeping to the high RPMs instead of low RPM after the heat has passed is strangest. The fans were going back down on 2.3.6 if I remember correctly after the heat passed but this seems to be "stuck" on the 2.4.1 so that even after the heat has passed the fans stay at the maximum RPMs they reached during the heat period.
Thanks for the work, ckolivas ! I would appreciate any suggestions about what could be causing this behaviour.

A1BITCOINPOOL still is scammer  For some reason, no movement has happened on the recent issue that came up. I already have theymos' word that once that is cleared up, the tag will be removed from A1BITCOINPOOL. We will see but I am still unsure about Raize and his policy of "buy debt and somehow convince the proverbial scammer to pay up". What are his methods ? Nobody seems to know. Suffice to say that until A1 gets his scam removed and clearly out of the way, I am wary of paying up. |

I have saved the private keys to my HDD not on here. I will pay up as soon as it is possible for me to do so. The distress caused by this issue will influence how fast I pay back but for now I gotta bask in the glory of the scammer tag ! As a seller on Bitmit, and in general, I can't do much to prevent people from paying me with "tainted" coins. I can't control who gets to buy my goods. If I do receive a "tainted" payment, what should I do? Refund it? How do I even know it's "tainted". I don't know exactly how Bitmit's escrow service works, but I fear it might "taint" everything if someone would make a payment with "tainted" coins through it.
Exactly. The idea of tainted coins is LUNACY for something like Bitcoin. MtGox has got us into this shithole with "tainted" money. Well done sirs !  |

Hello yohan, I hope I don't come across as too pushy, but I'd like to point out to you a few points as I have done with other merchants in the past in regards to accepting bitcoins as payment. The main point I'd like to make is that if you use a merchant service provider such as http://bit-pay.com/ , they actually protect you against volatility and insulate you from that risk a few different ways. They allow you to set a price in GBP or USD or whatever currency, and then dynamically update the bitcoin price themselves. Then, when someone decides to order, they lock in the price for 15 minutes to give the person time to pay, and guarantee you the exchange rate during that time so you won't lose out to fluctuations. And once the customer has paid, they instantly convert to fiat money and deposit it into your bank account. With bit-pay (not sure about others), they also offer you the option of splitting the payout so you get some fiat and some bitcoins. I hope this bit of information enables you to look into using a merchant service provider like bit-pay or paysius.com, and end rant thanks for listening. How much are you getting paid to advocate bitpay, rjk ? Nice PR action. TLDR : they act as a proxy - BTC comes in from buyer they ( bitinstant ) get a cut and pass the fiat as GBP to you. Still risky and depending on their fees you might come ahead with normal fiat and CC and Paypal etc. Surprised to see some heavy pushing of bitpay here ... |
