+1 don't know anyone who would be against that, unless there is a downside that you haven't yet shared?

The point is to develop a workflow for a NIP approval.

What is NIP? Ninja in pyjama?

If you are involved in testing the Asset Exchange, this is the right thread for you:

764  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Nxt :: Asset Exchange :: How to use the funds? on: February 11, 2014, 05:32:35 PM
Nxt :: Asset Exchange is currently getting tested on the TestNet.

I´ve created this thread to discuss how the Nxt :: Asset Exchane functionality could be used legally.

As you may already know, the Nxt :: Asset Exchange can be used to fund your project, get additional funds for your company to expand, do great things, or whatever you need money for. Now the problem is, that it is not clearly regulated how these type of investments have to be handled in you bookkeeping.

The process is the following:

1, You create an asset using Nxt :: Asset Exchange (it will cost you 1000 Nxt)
2, The shares you´ve created can be bought by people you convince to invest in your idea/company. They might expect some weekly/monthly dividends for their investment.
3, You get Nxt for the shares you´ve sold
4, You can trade the Nxt to BTC and/or to USD/EUR
5, And now comes the hard part. How to use the money legally?

Does anyone already have some experience doing crowdfunding? How is it different to using Asset Exchange.

Has anyone started a dedicated thread for discussing general aspects of the asset exchange?

no
766  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: from ireland to papua new guinea with NXT on: February 11, 2014, 04:57:21 PM
what do you think of the idea of traveling from Ireland to Papua new guinea, with only Nxt as funding doing good deeds along the way for anyone in need.

Obviously i would have to sell allot of Nxt rather than just pay for things with it but i would try to use Nxt as a form of payment whenever i can and i will tip, with Nxt, anyone who helps me.

I could set up an account for anyone who will accept Nxt as a tip/payment and all they will have to do is remember/writedown their pass phrase.

I will be keeping costs as low as possible, staying in hostels or camping where i can. thumbing lifts ect.

I was planning on travelling their anyway and volunteering where ever help is needed along the way and i thought why not try to promote Nxt at the same time?

Any ideas on whether or not this can be done and if it would be supported by the community (i don't mean financially however i would accept any donations and donations will be directly linked to the good deeds) just if you would like me to do something like this and associate myself with the Nxt community? or should i just stick to doing my own thing?

I think this would be a great way to do really good things for real people and would be very good promotion for Nxt.

I am currently in college too so my time frame as it stands now is 3 months. but that is subject to change.

This is not me trying to scam Nxt ether. Hence no donation address will be given. Smiley

Thank you for any feedback and please no hate! Smiley i am only trying to help!

What are your plans? Do you already have some ideas how you could spread the word about Nxt?

Guys... one question that is bugging me: has anyone checked the legal status of issuing these assets?

Given what's happened to btct.co and bitfunder.com, could people issuing these assets end up in trouble later?

This is a good question... The whole BTC story is a grey zone, so I assume this is not a clear issue...
769  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 11, 2014, 02:57:39 PM
is utipianfuture still in charge for the issuance of assets? I know an austrian company who would like to issue assets for one of their upcoming products that needs fundraising for further developments and would like to help them using nxt ae.

Who is in charge of the AE? Do we know how it will function once it is on the live network? Will I be able to issue an asset myself? How can I let the community know bout it? Where can I upload the business plan? How can the investors make sure that I am not trying to scam them?

You can use description field when you Issue Asset to include short intro and link to the plans!

So there will be no central organisation that will validate the asset issuance like utopianfuture was planning it?

That's too bad, we really need something like this. Also, cross chain transactions or whatever it's called needs to be implemented as soon as possible.

AM I right if I say, that we have abolsutely no idea how the asses issuance will work, just a few weeks prior the go live of the asses exchange functionality? You can´t be serious.
The question is very simple:

How will I be able to fund my project using Nxt AE? What is the process?

CfB: Will everyone with at least 1000 Nxt be able to release an asset or will there be a manual validation prior to the issuasnce of the asset?

nxt currently works as for small accounts have the same options as large accounts in forging the only solution is to join in a pool.

this will cause in the future centralization of the nodes and therefore a more vulnerable network.

if you decide to join a pool the solution is;

a) funds must stay in the Bob account
b ) forging power should remain in the node where stay Bob acount.

Instead the commission of forging if Bob acount forge should go to the "transparent" pool and the pool manager split the commission forging proportion to the amount of funds from the accounts that were at that time in the pool .

I do not know if this is technically very difficult to implement but it is clear that if not resolved this little by little will create pools and concentrating on a few network nodes and so understand a network more vulnerable to attack .

I think the pool is very good solution for the small investor gives "equity to the system not equality " but forging power of Bob acount should remain in the node where this account with funds for the sake of the security of the network.

Am I wrong in my thoughts?

Bitvoin has the same problem. A few pools will remain, where all the little fuckers, like me with my erupters, join in.

http://blogs.wsj.com/moneybeat/2014/02/10/bitbeat-bitcoin-getting-hammered-and-sickled/

Quote
Granted, dogecoin has gone from Internet meme to one of the top five alt-coins in a matter of months, and granted there are also some features to it that may even improve upon bitcoin’s system. Certainly, having fun and encouraging others to do the same can be a very effective strategy to build buzz and goodwill. That the community was able to donate enough doegcoins (more than $30,000) to get the Jamaican bobsled team to the Sochi Olympics was a stroke of marketing genius.

But it’s worth remembering, too, that in the world of virtual currencies, there is almost no barrier to entry, and the success or failure of a system will depend upon its utility and its supporters. Because ultimately all these currencies – whether its dogecoin, bitcoin, or the U.S. dollar – are really just tools that aid commerce and business. How well they achieve that goal is the real measure of success.

No mention of Nxt. The Doge-guys are doing great marketing job.

So something like a cancelling option within 10 seconds could be nice if this is wanted by the community.

Easily added into a client (i.e. just don't broadcast the tx until 10 seconds have elapsed with a button to cancel and a countdown) - no need to muck around with the protocol for something as simple as that.

Nice!

A cancel till the first confirmation would be great. I am always affraid of clicking on "send" when I know it is irreversible.
776  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 10, 2014, 09:50:42 AM

Not sure it's nice for those who expect to become rich and buy an island... The 1st red flag was when BCNext said that "world with money can't be perfect". Now he says that nxts r not money. I like these ideas but most of the community don't, IMO.

Edit: Well, we have an option not to follow his plan...

So what now? Panic sell? Because NXT will not be worth 1$ anymore? =)

Why not?

RaspNXT - a standalone NXT environment for the Raspberry Pi

UPDATE 2014-01-08: NXT 0.5.3 coming soon
UPDATE 2014-01-05: NXT 0.5.0 cancelled
UPDATE 2014-01-02: NXT 0.4.8, update script, blockchain-less

This package contains the current stable version of the NXT server and the Embedded Version of Oracle JRE that you can run on your Raspberry Pi as-is. You can get it from my public node server (hash checksums coming soon). This archive contains most of what you might need, including some helpful utilities and scripts.
If you have the JRE already or insist on using another one, try this archive. Both links always link to the newest version of the package. You can get older versions or other stuff from the nxt root of the server.
Notice: Unlike the initial version, there are no block files in this version of the package. This reflects the makeup of the main NXT releases, which are now also blockchain-less. If you would rather use a basic blockchain to update from, but don't have one yet, you can download one of these.

To download and run it on the Pi, do the following steps in a local or remote console. I assume you have the Pi up and running already, using e.g. Raspbian. I myself am using Raspbian, however, the package should also work with other distributions.

Code:
wget http://109.230.224.65/~nxt/nxt_rasppi.tar.gz
tar -xpf nxt_rasppi.tar.gz
chown -R *youruser*:*yourgroup* nxt/
cd nxt
ln -fs webapps/root/WEB-INF/web.xml configfile
./run_nxt.sh

I now have incorporated my public node update script into the package. Called automatically by the run script before starting the JVM, it fetches a list of well-known public nodes and puts them in your config.

You can tweak the JRE call in the run_nxt.sh script if you want. After some testing with the new version, I have found that not that much memory is needed.
Also, I put a symlink in the rootdir called configfile which leads to the web.xml file, for easier access.

I recommend running the server in some sort of backgrounding context, as it is basically a daemon. Use a multiplexer like screen or at least use nohup. For a more comprehensive guide on setting this up, I recommend this how-to which also references this package.

If you want to access the client from another machine - which you probably do want when starting the server or using the Pi as a whole remotely - remember to put your accessing IP or the "*" wildcard (no quotes) as allowed addresses in the configfile.

Have fun with it, and feel free to post some impressions of RaspNXT on your RPi Smiley

Will there be an update of this package? I am having a cubietruck.

Maybe we could create an asset organisation in some exotic liberal country? Would you pay me for living in Seychelles or in Panama? Cheesy

If one were truly committed to creating a NXT/Fiat gateway... the best way to go would be through a Belize International Business Company (IBC) that is owned by a Belize Trust.

Here is how you do it:

a. You create the Belize Trust (Trustees, Beneficiaries, etc.)
b. The Trust incorporates the IBC; thus the Trust is the owner of the IBC and not the beneficiaries of the Trust.
c. IBC creates a business presence online (website, NXT Asset Exchange gateway, etc.)
d. All bank, merchant, exchange, etc. accounts are opened by the IBC.
e. Belize bank account is in $.
f. The physical address associated with all accounts is the corporate address of the IBC.
g) There is NO TAX for income earned from IBCs outside Belize.

You are looking at $1500-2000 to set this up and around $1000 yearly expenses to renew the Belize contracts.

And YES... it is all COMPLETELY LEGAL!!!   Wink

BUMP

Still looking for someone to do this with.

PM me if interested!

What about securing the network by giving the nodes running with the full blockchain a higher forging chance motivating the owners to go on with the full blockchain?
Others, like the guys on a rasp or on a smartphone would use a "light" version of the blockchain (something like James proposed)
