761  Economy / Speculation / Re: BITCOIN = TULIP BULB MANIA? on: August 23, 2017, 05:15:31 AM
No, bitcoin is not in a bubble. Bitcoin is in its infancy.

Just read the white paper. Bitcoin was intended as an alternative to third party financial institutions for casual transactions.

Most people don't know anything about bitcoin or its importance.

Until bitcoin gets mainstream acceptance we'll be getting the tired old FUD served left and right.

Bitcoin drives people manic because it's awesome, not because it's a tulip.

Other things that drove people into mania: Suddenly becoming rich, becoming free, escaping jail, proving media figures are wearing the emperor's new clothes.

Most journo's are clickbait ho-ho-hoes.

763  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why is life so hard/complicated? on: December 19, 2016, 01:29:39 AM
I think you shouldn't make it so complicated, your life, things, and other stuff. But I see that even if you make your life simple, it isn't easy. Other people cause the complexity; that's what I think. Things that lack in our lives and wanting it plays it's roles. Scarcity of money of personal funds could make someone really angry and grumpy and it connects to other people to. Causes interactions with other things.

I think you're right. Still it's hard to change your life and make it simple, it takes balls, especially for most people. If you're not there in the first place it would take a lot of work.

I think this thread is vague even for off-topic.
764  Other / Off-topic / Why is life so hard/complicated? on: December 18, 2016, 08:09:30 PM
Since most of us are pretty simple, why do we live under such a complex system?

Is it an inherent property of the system or just a way for the elites to herd the common folk away from their own self-interests?

What role do you think scarcity and greed play in all this?
765  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bernie Sanders will use bitcoin for economic growth? on: February 15, 2016, 02:25:38 AM
I can't see any other way to take back the power from the big banks instantly (and to make them tamer)

But it would be a huge risk for any politician to endorse bitcoin as part of policy, especially since gox.
766  Other / Off-topic / Re: DO YOU HAVE 1 BITCOIN? on: October 30, 2015, 02:20:20 PM

768  Other / Off-topic / Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon and Gunslinger sale on: April 29, 2015, 08:00:42 PM
These games have really good steam reviews. I'm particularly interested in blood dragon.

The two games together are 6.24$ on steam.

I threw money at them. Hopefully they're both going to turn out to be great games.
769  Other / Off-topic / Re: Big Screen SLI laptop disadvantages. on: April 29, 2015, 07:33:24 PM
Laptops have a lot of disadvantages, even without SLI setup.
All the laptops I had were always at least 20% slower than desktops built on similar components while being much more expensive. This should already make you think twice before you buy a gaming laptop.
If you think you'll be able to enjoy gaming and travelling at the same time you're wrong. You'll face connection problems and slow internet in hotels and will need to find a decent chair enjoy gaming and desk to fit your mouse pad (can be harder than you might think).
Just buy a decent smartphone and play sims or something while you're away from your beloved PC. Cheesy

I couldn't agree more.
770  Other / Off-topic / Re: Last Movie you watch ? ( Daily thread ) on: April 29, 2015, 05:13:20 PM
Dirty Harry movies.

Last one I watched was

The Enforcer (1976)

I highly recommend all of them so far. Very solid movies.
771  Other / Off-topic / Big Screen SLI laptop disadvantages. on: April 29, 2015, 04:41:56 PM
They are always very loud, get hot, have ridiculous power draws even when idle.

Microstuttering in 3D applications means that you'll have to disable 1 card most of the time. They'll require different drivers for max performance which may get tedious.

If you're in the market for a laptop. You may get a much better deal on something with a single graphics card where noise, battery and heat (even performance) are concerned at a lower price.

Also a big 17.3 inch laptop may be a bad idea. Laptop screens generally don't have the best color representations and most aren't even IPS, having lame viewing angles.
Better to buy a laptop with a smaller screen and connect a larger one to it rather than having to carry around a behemoth that eats through it's battery in 2 hours anyway.

My chair is broken and I have to sit on a cooler.

Why Vod? Why?

774  Other / Off-topic / How much money do you carry with you? on: April 24, 2015, 11:47:53 PM
I had ~$160 in my wallet. Removed enough to get it well under $100.

Had I lost my wallet I'd have been double screwed.

I also took out my debit card, don't have much in that account but again, debit cards are super dangerous.
My credit card also. No need to carry that around in my case.

I assume different people with different tendencies and risk assessments will carry varying amounts of cash on them.
I also assume that BTC, and credit cards can eliminate nearly all the risks with having cash, valuable shit, etc on you for transactions but cash is still king.

Ok, now is the OP a smoker?

OP was a smoker when he was a child but grew out of it later annoying other children that were getting into it.

Awesome video by Sargon of Akkad.

I didn't expect that the things said by stormfags would be almost entirely indistinguishable from the stuff told by SJWs.

Fact is stranger than fiction in this case.
777  Other / Off-topic / Re: Let my self go, walked 10 miles in florida sun. on: April 23, 2015, 09:25:00 PM
Good on you for getting exercise. 10 miles in the heat may be a little excessive starting off. Hope you had lots of water, sunscreen, and a hat. Otherwise sounds like recipe for heat stroke or heart attack. Take care of yourself.

A hat would have been nice. And it was definitely excessive. Muscles in my back, my sides and my legs are still recovering. You can definitely get a heatstroke in Florida
When I first moved to this hellish state I went and walked around and had an adventure in the summer with a few people. All that you need to recover is 1 hour in the shade + water. But if you don't get it you suffer and you suffer until you get somewhere.

I guess I should have stopped in a gas station. I know my limits though.

Today I did the smart thing. I just drove to a park. No breathing a bunch of car fumes, dust and pesticide particles blown up by lawn care, tire and break part particles and baking by the roadside. Biking would also prevent a lot of that as well. (Reduce it by 66%)

Do you even sunscreen, bro?

I didn't. I bet on cancer and wrinkles being easily solvable when I'm old.

About 2 more weeks and I will switch from sitting and reading in the way to work and back to walking and listening to music.
I hate this weather. The winter was too long. The spring was too cold. But soon all will be much much better.

Where do you live?

In Florida it's unbearably hot and humid everywhere from April to November.
778  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to get GTA V for 33$ on: April 23, 2015, 09:06:02 PM
That sounds like a lot of hassle if you ask me, you can get the game for around $50 on ebay (or with no damage to your wallet (apparently) if you torrent it - don't quote me on that one though  Roll Eyes
Also I know you guys are talking about the pc version but I just thought I'd mention that you can pick up the Xbox/PS3 version for about $25 (used) on here http://www.jjgames.com/
My favorite place to buy used games online, some of the cheapest prices I've seen plus they accept Bitcoin  Wink

Well, torrenting = certainly illegal.

This method however seems a legal way to get a good discount on an overpriced product.

Twenty something dollars mean a lot to young people who have no money what so ever.

Most young people make near minimum wage.

3 hours of boring crappy work =\= nothing.
779  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to get GTA V for 33$ on: April 22, 2015, 06:10:10 PM
This seems technically illegal.

Take the risk at your own chance.
780  Other / Off-topic / Let my self go, walked 10 miles in florida sun. on: April 22, 2015, 05:18:42 PM
I'm happier but my legs are telling me "fuck you" and so is the rest of my body. I walked, run and climbed (on a playground tightrope thing). I'm not inactive but I've put on a bunch of weight.

I'm paying for it.

Also, I'm saltier than a cracker and muscles from all over the place are just feeling sore.

Maybe all the sun and salt will make me vulnerable to cannibal attack. Gotta be careful.

Moral of the story, if you find yourself in the hellishly boring suburbs of west-central Florida just drive to your destination. If you don't have a car bike. If you don't have a bike skate. Also don't gain a bunch of weight and then expect walking long distances to be the same.
