801  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Mycelium will be represented at the BTC Chicago conference on: July 01, 2014, 07:36:21 PM
The North American Bitcoin Conference in Chicago (http://btcchicago.com/) is scheduled to take place July 19th and 20th, and has recently lowered their attendance fee to just $100. The conference is put on by Moe Levin, the same guy who created the first very successful conference in Amsterdam last September, followed by the conference in Miami in January that broke all bitcoin conference attendance records. Of all the conferences we've attended last year, his were typically on par with the best and biggest ones, such as the San Jose in May a year ago and the Toronto one this past April.

I expect this conference to be just as big and successful, and will be in attendance, demonstrating in person our new Mycelium Entropy device that we launched on Indiegogo a few days ago. Speaking of which, we are almost 1/3 of the way to our goal, and we hear that a lot of bitcoiners out there don't really use Reddit or Bitcointalk (silly newbies  Roll Eyes). So if you know someone like that, please help spread our campaign by word of mouth and let them know about this.

I will also be there to answer any questions, show demos of our Android bitcoin wallet app, give updates on our progress for implementing new features, and maybe show some exclusive sneak previews of what we are working on behind the scenes that you won't be able to see anywhere else.

Hope to see you there!

Other "normal" non-node running users. As far as I know, most other phone based wallets still pay the standard fee, or do off-blockchain transactions and pay a standard fee when transferring coins out of their internal system.

Again, sending bitoins works perfectly well with Bitcoin-Qt. It does have a more advanced fee calculation than Mycelium, and it would be great if Mycelium could catch up with that. But in the meantime a lower, or perhaps end user selectable, fee would work wonders.

Mycelium has the same fee calculation as Bitcoin-Qt. Personally, I want this to be an option, too, but the mighty devs have spoken, and they have their reasons  Tongue

Yes... eventually. It's a chicken and egg issue, where we have to wait for mining pools to change it, and mining pools have no reason to change it if everyone else is still using 0.0001.

How do you mean everyone else? Bitcoin-Qt changed to the new fee, and I haven't heard anyone had problems sending transactions with that. Have you?

Other "normal" non-node running users. As far as I know, most other phone based wallets still pay the standard fee, or do off-blockchain transactions and pay a standard fee when transferring coins out of their internal system. Changing the fee also isn't as easy as just changing the code from "fee = 0.0001" to "fee = 0.00001," since the fee still depends on transaction priority, and that math has to be calculated out to see if the minimum fee will even be enough. Good read on the subject http://bitcoinfees.com/
805  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: July 01, 2014, 01:28:41 PM
I haven't look at fees for a while, but after building bitcoind 0.9.2.1, I noticed it defaults to
Code:
"relayfee" : 0.00001000,
Will the default fee be changed for Mycelium too? Version 1.2.12 asks for 0.0001

Yes... eventually. It's a chicken and egg issue, where we have to wait for mining pools to change it, and mining pools have no reason to change it if everyone else is still using 0.0001. Since we are trying to keep our wallet as reliable and user friendly as possible, for now we are waiting for others to fight this battle out.

Aghhh why didnt you choose a crowdfunding website where bitcoins were allowed. Now i'll have to use paypal .... ( and everyone knows each time anybody uses it , a little puppy is killed)

Sorry, we tried Kickstarter, wich would have used Amazon for credit card processing but they didn't like us selling financial-services-on-a-stick  Tongue

BTW, you don't have to use a PayPal account if you don't want to. Just use the credit card option.

I talked to him on Skype, but text only so far. The plan was to do a video chat, but I got distracted by the Indiegogo launch, and didn't see him online. Will try tomorrow. Until then, I can't vouch for him.
808  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Mycelium announces Entropy project on Indiegogo on: June 25, 2014, 01:02:41 PM
Today, Mycelium has announced the launch of an Indiegogo project for its Mycelium Entropy device. Mycelium Entropy is the newest addition to the Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet ecosystem, first announced at the Bitcoin2014 Conference in Amsterdam, and demonstrated at the Central Europe Bitcoin Expo in Vienna, as well as the recent Bitcoin in the Beltway conference in Washington DC. The project fundraiser was initially delayed when Kickstarter decided to deny it on the grounds that "Kickstarter's guidelines do not allow for offering money processing services." Attempts to explain that a hardware random number generator is not in any way a "money processing service" has failed, but the Mycelium team was not deterred, and we found a new place to host the fundraiser.

Mycelium Entropy is a small, simple USB device that is designed specifically to generate paper wallets. All you do is plug it into a printer's USB port, and the device uses specialized hardware to create a random number with 256-bits of entropy. It then uses that number to generate a paper wallet with public and private keys, which your printer sees as a JPG photo that it can print directly from the device. This is currently the most secure way to create paper wallets, since the keys are never exposed to the web, use true high level entropy, and only exist on paper. For extra security, Mycelium Entropy can also create M-of-N split keys, where the private key is split up in such a way that you need two out of three parts to spend from an address. In this way, if one of your paper backups is lost or stolen, the thief still can't steal your coins, and you can still access them using the remaining 2 paper backups. Since the Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet has full support for spending from paper wallets, using Mycelium Entropy in combination with the Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet can be a very safe and easy way to store and protect your savings. Think of it as being able to create your own bank deposit certificates that you can keep in a safe, while keeping only a bit of spending cash on your Android wallet. With this combination, the idea of "Be Your Own Bank" comes much closer to reality, and becomes much easier as well.

At this stage, the devices are fully functional, and need just a few minor software tweaks, such as fixing issues of incompatibility between US and European sized paper standards causing the headings on the paper wallet image to be cut off. Mostly minor things that will be resolved by the time we are ready to launch. Although the device hardware is open source, we need to raise money to be able to order them in sufficient enough quantities to make them cheaper for everyone, since mass production is much cheaper than ordering them one at a time. Also, about $1,500 of the money raised will go towards testing and compliance for these types of devices, like CE marks, FCC part 15 approvals, etc. While the devices are being developed, we will spend time testing printers and putting together a list of recommended printers to use with these, just to make sure that yours can handle this, or if it can't, to help you find the cheapest (and most secure) option you can get.

You can read many more details, and see examples, on our Indiegogo page.

So, are you putting people with lots of bitcoins together so hat they can use their bitcoin wealth to buy bitcoins?

I may be willing to be a trusted third party, but I refuse to give money for what are essentially stolen coins.
811  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: June 16, 2014, 08:22:14 AM
Sorry for the delayed reply. Mycelium Entropy plugs into the USB port that you typically find on the front of some printers, and is detected by a printer as just a flash drive with a photo on it. You would need to have a printer that can print photos directly off USB drives for it to work. A printer that uses a parallel port is a bit old XD
812  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: BITCOIN IN THE BELTWAY - Conference Schedule on: June 13, 2014, 03:45:56 PM
If anyone is flying in I will be offering free rides to attendees from the airport to your hotel in my Bitcoin Prius! My time, the seating, and the amount of me existing in this universe, is limited, so it's on a first come first serve basis. If interested, contact me directly with your arrival time, and I'll let you know if I ca add you to my calendar.
813  Bitcoin / Meetups / Bitcoin in the Beltway conference just a week away! (Mycelium will be there) on: June 13, 2014, 03:45:50 PM
It's only a week until the Bitcoin in the Beltway conference takes place in Washington DC (http://www.bitcoinbeltway.com/). It's being put on by Jason King of Sean's Outpost, who just finished running across USA (but is flying back, because he's not manly enough to walk here), and from the looks of the venue and the schedule, it looks like it will be a really great event! The conference starts Friday evening with a welcome party, which seems to be almost a tradition with these things, and continues until Sunday evening. There's a pretty huge lineup of speakers, too, including from some "controversial" bitcoiners I'm sure many here would love to ask questions of. And, of course, the conference will help fund Sean's Outpost, wth 10% of the proceeds going to cover their expenses, such as food, and mortgage payments for Satoshi Forest.

Mycelium will be representing there too, where we will be demonstrating our brand new hardware called Mycelium Entropy. It's a small USB device that you plug into your printer, and it generates a totally random and secure paper wallet. We'll be launching the Kickstarter for it any day now (we ran into delays with the video, which, although not as interesting as the Mycelia in Wonderland one, is still pretty cool).

I personally prefer Mycelium as my #1 mobile wallet of choice. Now that Apple is allowing Bitcoin apps again, any chance Mycelium will come to iOS as well?

Not any time soon. The two platforms are really different, so such a project would be an enormous amount of work, and we would rather concentrate on more important things right now, like increased privacy and anonymity (HD Wallets). Plus Androids are better for decentralized open source stuffs  Grin Maybe eventually someone will figure out how to emulate it?

One teeny tiny difference: Nazis invaded other countries and killed their population. These guys are fighting foreign invaders and defending their country. Their tactics may be questionable, though I don't know, since I don't know what their tactics are (I suspect you don't either), but saying they're Nazis is kind of like saying that that the Polish fighters who were fighting against the German invasion in WW2 are Nazis.

In the mean time, http://landandseajournal.com/4500-russian-fighters-have-crossed-the-ukraine-border/

Also, did you hear that Right Sector recently raided and emptied the headquarters of Donetsk People's Republic, declared martial law, and imposed a curfew?

Nah, I'm lying, they were actually Russian "Vostok Battalion,", not Right Sector. Although I'm sure either Russian Media, or you idiots, will claim they are Right Sector, since apparently according to you, anyone wearing military uniforms and carrying guns in Ukraine is Right Sector  Roll Eyes

Also, Russia got busted for lying again

Quote
It also emerged that 33 men killed in bloody battles in Donetsk were Russian citizens, giving backing to Ukraine's claims that Moscow's blatant interference is fuelling the conflict.

Regarding IMF, and their effect on Iceland, get yourselves educated: https://www.imf.org/external/pubs/ft/survey/so/2011/car110311a.htm

Ironically, despite you guys claiming that getting IMF bailout means giving yourself up to the banks, the main success of the bailout was because IMF made sure the exact opposite happened, by forcing the failing banks in Iceland to eat their own shit, instead of forcing the people to bail out the banks. As a result, Iceland recovered substantially, was shielded from the continuing collapsed in Europe (Greece, Cyprus, etc.), and is paying back the IMF loan early.

Both my parents have advanced degrees in microbiology, and both have spent decades working in that field. When they reached the pay ceiling for those positions, both of them, despite being in mid-40s, researched what positions are in high demand, took computer and programming classes in the evenings, and switched to software development with different concentrations (mom for database design, dad for human resource management systems). Both are now making more than twice what they used to.
If it took them any more effort than it did to learn their initial degrees and skill, they didn't show it.

Bankers know how to create wealth. If they take over the country and change it to make it create wealth, that would be a good thing for everyone living there (except for those living off of other's work and wealth).

Yes. Bankers know how to create wealth. They take away money from hard working people and give it to the politicians.

No, taxes take away money from hard working people. Bankers just take money from inefficient and wasteful parts of the market, and invest it where it can do some good.

By the way, are you on this forum mainly for things like Freicoin instead of Bitcoin? Or for the Resource Based Economy / Venus Project stuff? Or are you just getting paid to continue the Russian propaganda? You seem to be rather socialist and anti capitalist in the things you espouse, and now even more so with your rather extreme support of Russia and their policies.
