I used to care, back when I thought it meant something, and I have always had a fairly high score. In recent years I have been extricating myself from the credit economy. Since then I have more money than ever. So when I was looking at large real estate tracts for sale I became curious about my score. When i checked I was delighted to see that I no longer have a score. Because I don't use bank credit I am simply rated un-scoreable. I could not be happier. I don't want a number from the same industry that puts out LIBOR scores and other works of fiction. What about you? Do you value your credit scores?

This has to be sarcasm right? Please tell me you honestly don't believe that. From ... I'm not saying it's great. But yes, I think that is the attitude. If suddenly we had a chance to get at some high value information by using a back door on a chip, the CIA would do it in a heart beat. There would be no time to research it in an emergency. That's why the CIA hires people to know about these things in advance. Could that knowledge be abused by some "bad" government in the future. Sure it could.

I understand the controversy, but succeed or fail, this attempt will be good for us. If he breaks it then it's better him than a crook. If he fails we can all have more confidence that our money is secure.
If he does ddos that does make him a crook. I thought he was not going to double spend or create blocks, etc. That would be crooked. And yes, a better way would be to do this quietly with the help of developers.

I'm not in Ireland, but I do have a suggestion for an Irish business to approach about bitcoin. I sometimes trade at a site called Intrade. They run a prediction market using fiat currencies. Bitcoin would work so well for them, It's a natural fit. Check em out. http://intrade.com

This is not new to bitcoin. Last year someone was paying people to write disparaging articles about BTC, at least some claimed to be approached and there was a huge rash of such articles. We never found out who it was, but I suggest the Stalin approach. Stalin would reason that when something happens and you don't know who did it, ask yourself "who stood to gain?". Could be competitors like PayPay or investors looking to drive the price down. Whoever it is/was they must be profiting from it. Why else would they spend their money?

Could this just be us getting poorer? We don't make anything, we are just a nation of people delivering Chinese goods to each other and BS jobs like "life coach". Why should we think we have enough money to support everyone?

You go! I think it is worth it because UK citizens are in a better position to fight this than in China. That means getting more done than just drawing attention to the issue.

The thing is I can't imagine this even being proposed in the U.S. It would have zero support from all quarters, most importantly the wealthy elites who really make the decisions won't allow it. Having said that, we are at the beginning of the end of western power. Who knows how an impoverished and weak America might act?

I don't think this would happen because no one would stand to gain. If people saw this possibility coming they would divest before hand. That would drive prices off the cliff and destroy any value in those assets. That's what I would do. The broker gets paid, I take a big hit, but the gov gets nothing but worthless paper.
How would they 'divest' without taking a huge tax penalty? Either way, govco wins. I don't look at that as a penalty since it will be the first taxes I pay on that money. Still I will loose about 30% I think. but 70% is better than losing possession of the account. Not a great outcome, but if this were attempted we could play spoliator and bring them down with us.
