Lol, and why would you want to keep them under your control? I am being serious!

You don't like them, you think they are impolite, drunkers, idiots, robbers, violent, lower class, uneducated, lack of cognitive functions. Pretty much you would only like to see them as far away as possible. You don't feel any cultural connection with them, for you they are like monkeys in the jungle. I am not suprised they want away from Ukraine ASAP.

You don't forsake a bunch of your population to a crazy wannabe dictator just because a few in your population are rowdy vocal hooligans.

I don't really see a source for this. Is this just a Russian language web poll?

Anti-Kiev forces detain Ukrainian officer transporting BM-21 Grad shells to Markovka. Use of such weaponry would be a WarCrime.

War crime? Where do you get that from? Those are still used by Russia and China, and are no different from carpet bombing.

My proof-reader antennas found a typo under "Notes about Local Trader privacy", paragraph 2:
To enhance privacy, Local Trader uses a coarse location based on your network address, or an approximation near the address you manually enter. Your location location is only updated when you manually change it from the Change location menu.

When you sell throug Mycelium, you get TWICE the locations!  Grin

(thanks for pointing that out)
883  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine... Revolution. on: May 07, 2014, 09:25:29 PM
Just for some perspective, let's compare the Maidan Protests to the Pro-Russian separatist protests.

MaidanPro-Russian Protests
GoalsTo free the country from a dictator-like corrupt government, and to integrate with the much more democratic countries of Europe, while maintaining government independence.Full or partial occupation of their own country by a foreign, dictatorial, corrupt regime, and be swallowed up by an antidemocratic country with a total loss of their region's independence
MethodsDuring the course of the first months, strict non-violence, despite the use of force, even to the point of torture and killings, by the ruling force. Only after the ruling party broke promises on multiple occasions, and continued to use violent force against the protesters, did the protesters became violent themselves. Still, their main weapons were sticks and molotov cocktails. Firearms were almost entirely absent. Treatment of captured prisoners, though strict, was still mostly fair.Use of violence from the very beginning, including capture of administrative buildings, law enforcement offices, military facilities, seizure of military weaponry (including machine guns and grenade launchers), and distribution of weapons to supporters. Murder, torture, violent beatings of unarmed protesters, capture of hostages, use of women and children as human shields, and abuse of captured prisoners.
The role of foreign allied countriesVerbal support - much later economic sanctions. Everything is done in the open.Strategic and violent. Military occupation and annexation of Crimea using the already available and moved-in foreign troops, capture of buildings and objectives by foreign special forces, sending spies and saboteurs deeper into the country, and concentration of troops on the borders. All this done while hypocritically denying supplies to the rebels and army intelligence services of the country they claim to support.
National IdeologyUnity of the Ukrainian nation, including all ethnic groups and regions of Ukraine; absence of hatred and ethnic discrimination.Splitting the nation and the state, hatred of all things Ukrainian, European, and American. Russian fascism and anti-Semitism.
The Language IssueOfficial government language is Ukrainian, but no one objects to speaking in Russian. Russian language was frequently heard on Maidan. There is not a single case of abuse or violence against someone, just because they are speaking Russian.Hatred and contempt for the Ukrainian language, lack of recognition of it as a "real language," unwillingness to hear or learn any language other than Russian.
OrganizationSelf-organization from below; official policies more hurt than help; proven that massive cases of payoffs by special interests were not happening.Protests inspired by a foreign state; bystanders playing the role of pawns, extras, or human shields, governed by coordinators and fighters sent from abroad. There are numerous cases of people being paid off to act (although there are plenty of actors working for ideological reasons)
Support of the population (based on surveys)More than half of the whole country.12% in the whole country. Maximum support of 33% in Donetsk oblast, and 41% in Crimea (when questioned before the current occupation).
Intellectual, cultural, and creative levelIn general, high. On Maidan there was its own library, art exhibitions, lecture readings, comedy skits, musicians, poets, etc. Hig creativity, with many ingenious slogans and posters, and ingenuity in combat conditions (catapults and fire barricades). In general, low. Zero creativity, no own ideas, barricade tactics copied from Maidan. Many participants apparently with a criminal past.
AtmosphereIn general positive and polite, often even in relation to opponents.Generally vicious and aggressive, with constant cursing, threats, and physical aggression.
Behavior in captured buildingsMaintaining order, attempt to minimize possible damage.Vandalism and looting; piles of garbage.
AlcoholProhibited.Actively used. Also cases of drug use.
PropagandaMostly truthful, except for the inevitable in a revolutionary situation, with regards to unverified rumors.Almost entirely false, with the lies generated with all the might of a foreign state propaganda machine.
Attitude towards Soviet regimeNegative.Positive.

Yet another proof that the anti-Russian propaganda is not working:

Russia Today becomes the first news channel to get a billion hits on YouTube!

Sadly, this says absolutely nothing about the quality or the truth of the news they report. I mean look at this:

And Fox News has been blatant about their propaganda and lies.

I'm sorry for strong words, but I'm reading your messages during long time and I have to say this. There is a difference between blind faith and knowledge. It's unfortunately but you have nothing more than obsession with faith into your own perverted version of history, while I possess the knowledge. If you don't know something then ask two opposite persons at least and make your choice without using any emotional experience from the past. If you wish to become someone greater than ignorant fanatic, then you have to forget everything what you have seen in BBC, CNN, bullshit textbooks and start analyze facts, you must be able to think without any help from anybody.

I don't watch BBC, CNN, or read bullshit textbooks. You guys should stop reading bullshit from rt.com and other Russian propaganda machines. It's nice that you think you have learned "knowledge," but it was likely just more made up bullshit, sorry to tell you. Mine is not faith, but your is likely myth and made up propaganda.

Talking about your question... I don't believe, I know it. There were no nationality and language issues during the last 70 years at least.

Could that have been due to the fact that Ukraine was forcefully occupied as part of the USSR, and any dissent got you a one way ticket to a Siberian gulag???

You are talking about "russians" while having no idea that there are no differences between "russians" and "ukrainians", they are the same people.

I suppose next you're going to tell me that Mexicans and Americans (east-coast colonial) are the same people?

They were on these lands even before Russian Empire was formed.

That's the lie that Russia made up way in the 1700's. On Ukrainian lands was Kievan Rus. On Russian lands were Finish tribes, then a knyaz who had no allegiance to Ukraine, then a bunch more knyazy who were aligned with Mongolian khanate, NOT Ukraine. Did you even read this? http://oleg-leusenko.livejournal.com/1361141.html I had 4+ years of studying Ukraine's history, culture, and geography, but that is a good summary of the Russian counterpart. Sorry to disappoint you, but Russia doesn't have the glorious history they tried to write for themselves.

And nobody had any problem before your fucken EU decided to fund nazi parties in the beginning of 1990s and then stage a nazi coup here.

Really? NOBODY had any problems? Not even from the widespread corruption? Or during the Orange Revolution? And everyone was just fine with Yanukovich scrapping the constitution and trying to give himself dictatorial powers? That last one is the #1 reason that the Maidan revolution happened, and the #1 reason that people there, including my friends, were protesting and supporting the protests. Not because of some made up Nazi bullshit.

Remove the junta, ban nazi parties and everybody will go home. It's the only possible solution, and east will do it eventually anyway... Through creating new federative state or another coup, time will tell.

How do you even know that there are Nazi parties there? What's the difference between a Nazi, and a Ukrainian who, after being forcefully subjected to 70 years of Russian Soviet rule, and 20 more years of Russian-supported communist political leaders, now distrusts Russians? My friends and relatives from Ukraine don't see many Nazis. Maybe a small insignificant group at best (just like USA has KKK, but they are insignificant). The most they see is severe distrust of Russian government and their propaganda.
886  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine... Revolution. on: May 07, 2014, 02:52:46 PM
Yes, because you need to remember who actually started seizing government buildings in the first place.

The... Uh... Pro-ukraine Ukrainians started seizing Ukrainian government buildings? What's wrong with that?

As for your history allegations. Your interpretation of Russian history is in complete discord with both Russian and Western historians.

It's only in discord with Russian historians, because Russia was the one who made it up. For example, why is it that the Golden Horde, which attacked and destroyed anyone who resisted them, attacked and destroyed Ukraine, but completely ignored Moscow for a hundred years? The only explanation, which actually has evidence to support it, is that the monarchy of Moscow acquiesced to and subjugated itself to the Hun. Russian origins are Mongolian, with the khanate controlling Moscow and what is now Russia for centuries, completely separate from Kievan Rus, which Moscow repeatedly attacked.
887  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine... Revolution. on: May 06, 2014, 03:13:13 PM
The best way to stop wars is launching of Kennedy operation against Obama, McCain and the rest of idiots in Washington Obkom. Or, maybe, somebody should drop some molotov cocktails there, at least.

Do you actually believe that if USA completely pulls out of Ukraine, that Russia will stop spreading propaganda about scary Ukrainian Nazis, that freaked out Russians will stop trying to seize government buildings and try to break free, and that Ukraine will just stop defending itself and let extremists take over buildings and anex its territories that still have Ukrainians living in them?
888  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine... Revolution. on: May 06, 2014, 03:05:25 PM
And to answer your question, there was not much choice to begin with.
Ukraine is an artificial state, built from incompatible regions, grabbed from other states (Russia, Poland, Hungary, Romania) each with its own dominating ethnic group, language and mindset.
Plus during its existence as a state, it existed as a part of USSR, with tight economic and industrial integration with the republics, mainly Russia and Belorussia.

This is actually a lie created by Russia's ruling monarchs in the 1700's. The part about Kiev region being a gift from Russian tsars in the 1600's is especially laughable, considering Kievan Rus/Ukraine had already existed independent of Russia for about 800 years by that point. Ukraine was Kievan Rus for centuries, while Moscow was part of the Golden Horde empire. It was only much much later that Moscow renamed itself Russia, to try to fit with Kievan Rus, and secretly wrote a whole bunch of made up history to male it seem as if Russia's origins came from Kievan Rus as well. Russia and it's history had nothing to do with Ukraine or Kief outside of it invading and occupying parts of Ukraine, most recently as part of USSR. Ukraine was always it's own country, though parts of it have been occupied by its neighboring countries, such as Tatar and Communist ruled Russia to the East, and Poland to the west. Some of the outskirts on the borders have been desputed though.
If anything, it's Russia that is a failing state, always ruled by totalitarian despots, in a perpetual state of emperialist expansion followed by inevitable collapse. Ukraine has existed for over 1,000 years, with idiots claiming that it's a failed state, or actually belongs to someone else constantly. But history is hard to change when contrary evidence keeps surviving.

*Sigh* I'm really disappointed to even see antiwar.com getting swept up in this. Why in the fuck would pro-Kiev activists attack and storm their own government building, and why would pro-Russian outside attack a building full of pro-Kiev activists inside?
Oh wait, that actually happened. So even in this example, the pro-Russian attackers would be in the wrong.

38 people radicals die after attacking a public building and getting into a confrontation with locals, which may have resulted in a Molotov cocktail, thrown by an unknown side, setting the Trade Unions House on fire in Ukraine's Odessa

At least 38 anti-government activists pro-Russian radicals died in fire at Odessa’s Trade Unions House after suffocating with smoke or jumping out of windows of the burning building, Ukrainian Interior Ministry reported. The building was set ablaze by the pro-Kiev radicals a Molotov cocktail, though it is not known which side it belonged to.

Some 50 people, including 10 police officers, were also injured in the incident, the official statement said. It was not immediately clear whether those injured in Friday street clashes in Odessa were included in those numbers.

According to the ministry, the Friday standoff on Odessa included “anti-Maidan” activists on one side and “football fans” from Odessa and Kharkov, as well as "euro-Maidan" activists, on the other. A criminal case on the charges of mass unrest has been opened.

The Trade Unions House was set on caught fire by after pro-Kiev radicals Ukrainian locals after they , in an attempt to defend their own country from pro-Russian extremists, surrounded and destroyed the tent camp of anti-government activists that stood in front of the building on Odessa’s Kulikovo Field Square. It was torched in a storming attempt after some of the anti-Maidan activists pro-Russian radicals rallying in the square barricaded themselves inside the building.

Thirty of the victims were found on the floors of the building having apparently suffocated to death with smoke. Eight more died after jumping out of the burning Trade Union House’s windows, according to police.

Earlier Witness reports of the clashes in Odessa said that both sides used Molotov cocktails and, allegedly, gunfire.

A live video stream from inside the building showed disturbing scenes of supposedly dead bodies lying around the rooms with thick smoke in the air and blood stains on the floor.

By the way, Jan has been working hard on a neat new feature: http://www.mycelium.com/lt/m/

Now you can see the map of all the bitcoin sellers on LocalTrader in a convenient Google map in your browser! You can use it to look around and find people in your area, or if you are going to travel somewhere, you can check what kind of sell offers you can find at your destination. This also shows off the capabilities of our API, which we will continue to develop and expand to bring you more LocalTrader features.

I came across this charity run by university students in NZ - 100Percent.org.nz

They provide a platform for students to sign up & offer tutoring services, with 100% of fees earned going out to the tutors' charity of choice.
The site retains none of the revenue, and hence is dependent on donations to fund their operations and ongoing developments.
Their Donations Page already has a Bitcoin address. Sounds like they are a good charity to support.

Seems legit to me. Added.

Great! Is there anything else they have to do to receive the donation?

Bitcoin100 is set up to convince charities to accept bitcoin. This charity is already accepting bitcoin, so they may not qualify. How long ago did they add the bitcoin donation option?

Hi,

I volunteer at a local non-profit in Squamish, BC (Canada) (http://www.seatoskycommunity.org/)
I am currently trying to convince them to accept bitcoin donations. They are receptive to the idea, but have some concerns about regulations. We are gathering more information to revisit the question at the next board meeting (in about 2 weeks.)
I just wanted to enquire about bitcoin100's process. I have told them about the possibility of a $1000 donation, although I made sure to stress that it wasn't guaranteed. If they decide to accept bitcoin donations, we will add a bitcoin donation button/page to the website, and possibly start accepting bitcoins for services (there is a a bookstore and computer lab - both of which are raising money for the non-profit).
Once we get to that point, I can have one of the directors contact you to start whatever sort of screening process you go through for potential applicants. This is just an initial inquiry for some more info.

Thanks,

Jeremy M.

--------------------

I brought it to the board and they decided to accept bitcoin donations. I am in the process of setting up a bitpay account and adding a bitcoin donation page to the website. (http://www.seatoskycommunity.org/)
If you can submit our organization for review, to get the process started, that would be wonderful.

Note, they contacted me a while ago, and just recently added a bitcoin donation option.

Would it be possible to get listed as a charity on your site?  This may help us with getting funding as we are not likely to meet our target this year and may have to forgo our office space as a result.

He recently donated $1,000 each to my friend Jessie's IBME and my friend Amy's Primate Education Network. I think he will really appreciate the work you're doing with Project Northstar.

@Dmitry, I met Jen because a friend of mine volunteers with Northstar and really loves it. Jen is smart, super friendly and very passionate about the program, which provides free after school tutoring and homework help for DC kids. They could make a big difference with a $1,000 donation.

Good luck!

Thanks so much Frankie for connecting us!

Dmitry - I love the concept of Bitcoin100! If I'm understanding it right, we would include the bitcoin option on our fundraising page and donors could chose which way they would like to donate (money vs. bitcoin)?

We recently started a crowdrise page (www.crowdrise.com/northstar) which I'd be happy to feature the bitcoin option on (although to be honest I am not very tech savvy and I'm not sure we are capable of doing this through the crowdrise site). A second option would be to just include it on our fundraising page within our regular website. The site is undergoing major construction and but should be finished in 2 weeks and I would definitely have the bitcoin option included in the new format.

Let me know if you have any insight on the crowdrise page bit and hopefully we can at least get you guys featured on our regular web page soon!

Yes, you are wrong. One is a group of anti-theist anarchists, the other is just a group of billionaires who like to go to conferences where they can hang out with like-minded people. If money was Star Wars or Dungeons and Dragons, Bilderberg Group meets would be the equivalent of nerd conventions, where people who can't relate to anyone else in their real life, go to meet like-minded souls.
I suspect bitcoin millionaires will eventually end up going to those meetings as well.

If you look at the hashing power and subsequent difficulty increases at the time that BFL started shipping their ASICs, you'd see that their burn testing was insignificant in comparison to the difficulty increase from ASICs actually shipped by them and their competitors. I think they do less than 24 hours of burn testing, on a tiny fraction of the available mining hardware. So I wouldn't get too upset about it.
Also, Josh allows (or used to) for some people to keep their hardware with him and offered them the service of doing the mining for them, instead of shipping the hardware and doing the setup and mining themselves.  I suspect he used his own pool for that purpose. Though I don't really get what the issue is with Josh owning and selling BFL a mining pool.

“I think what is happening now shows us who really was mastering the process from the beginning. But in the beginning, the United States preferred to remain in the shadow,” Putin said, as quoted by RIA Novosti.

Hahahahahaha! So USA set up Ukraine as a trap by destabilizing it, and idiot Putin completely fell for it by attempting to invade it, just as USA planned? What a moron XD

And DEAR GOD, do you read any sources other than Russian propaganda bullshit? Based on all these news reports, you would think that Ukraine is on the brink of civil war, with fascists taking over the government, and everyone else freaking out and trying to escape the imminent fascist rule. While the actual news, coming from the people actually living there, is more along the lines of the people currently in power are helpless to do anything, and everyone in Ukraine is just worried about Russia invading them, and thinking they may have to fight off Russians.
