902  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Residential Limit 15amp or 20amp? on: January 18, 2014, 09:31:18 AM

^^ Hey Repair guy thanks!! But dont be a dickhead! You were snarking at Unacceptable for trying to help and he had to call you out on it for you to even retort with an answer  ..

If you are a prick by nature and im asking something of you that you just cant manage, i understand..

In life you always pay for everything with time, money or inconvenience. In this case i paid with cash for an electrician and parts and in btc i will be paying to whatever Death&Taxes bitcoin address is.

Furthermore i may just pony up some btc to a couple other random people in this thread like Pentax, LostDutchman, Coinhoarder, Dalkore, Unacceptable and lightfoot since they gladly jumped to help a newbie miner from making mistakes that may lead to his home burning down. I work like 10 hours a day so i may miss some stuff when im speed reading just trying to get stuff to work and they where helpful and appreciated.

Now if you have another snarky reply then just shut the fuck up and and get the fuck out my thread.

But if you want to be helpful in a thread that may help many other people, now and in the future then carry on. Your knowledge and experience is welcome.

Everybody else, thank you very much your help was very much appreciated! Mission is accomplished!! I got a dedicated 30a breaker. I got the 10 gauge branch line and the nema l6-30r locking outlet & PDU so im good to go!  If i scale up any further ill just duplicate the setup.

For anyone starting this thread backwards you want this below!

********************************************************
THE DEATH&TAXES PROTOCOL :
30A breaker, 10AWG branch line, and a NEMA L6-30R outlet (240V, 30A, locking).  Cheap used datacenter PDU with a NEMA L6-30P plug.  "Good for a solid 5.76KW."
903  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Residential Limit 15amp or 20amp? on: January 18, 2014, 06:58:09 AM
Do these pdu's need some kind of adapter on the inputs or what?

I just noticed the one i have (pictured) wont allow me to plug in my rig into those input slots. My rig uses standard atx- power supply.   The end that plugs in into the wall or power has a round ground. Like this ...

Do i need special cables /adapter now to go from my power supply to connect to the inputs on the pdu?

NO i dont have an alternative. In fact i too was looking into anon cards and did some looking around to find out what the deal was.

I spoke to a few people who hang out on shenanigans st formerly known as the darkweb and they shared some of their experiences and i also spoke to a guy who sold the cards for 3 years .. It wasnt the same guys on here but its a rinse and repeat operation of the same structure with maybe a different bank. I wont go into detail but its kind of obvious .. you are taking the chance that has no contingency what so ever! You fill up those cards with money from an exchange or otherwise and you have absolutely no recourse when the cards get locked and you lost funds! Whats really ****** is that people are getting a bunch of these cards! Now imagine you just bought 5-10 of these cards and emptied your exchange account into them! You think 1 gets shut off!?? The whole batch goes when it goes bad!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-z9Jwp2x86o

Do you see the op trying to convince you guys otherwise? The risk is inherent! Maybe just not so obvious if you have blinders on!

If you understand that there is a chance you will loose all funds! knock your self out..

Outside of that, unless you plan on taking a trip to the woodworks where its really cold and then prove you have residency there.. you aren't gonna get an anon card with no risk! There is no alternative.

I hope that clears it up!

i have a problem with my z87 killer....
i have 3 cards connected in the 1x slots...
but this is what the bios see

the cards are connected in the slot : 3,4,6
but only the card on 4 is detected
if i let windows start i get the msg "all device are disabled, cannot mine" and windows see only the gpu from the mobo
if i disconnect 2 gpu (random positions) and start it works ...

any help?

Hey man..

Try running 3 & 6! Alone!!

leave slot 4 disconnected! On my msi board i can only run 1 & 4 at the same time or 3 & 6 at the same time!

Its maybe cause you have the #4 slot occupied and its looking for a device in the #1 pcie slot and ignoring 3 & 6!

It's really easy just to setup a Crypsty account and point your address to payout and activate Autotrade(iv'e been doing it for a week now(still testing)). I understand that it may seem like it's harder than it is but it's not and the transparency and full control is a feature to be embraced not a hindrance. In the end(after some tweaking) you will have both LTC and BTC in your account on Crypsty where you can cashout daily just like Middlecoin. With the controls offered you can get better returns compared to a one size fit's all pool, if you just take some time to tweak. If everyone knew it was this easy everyone would do it.

A few tips...

1) set auto pay on Crypsty to the second one from the top(it almost always fills your sell order).

2) Set the pool Auto-Pay threshold differently depending on the coin. For example (3-4mhs rig) around 100 for SXC, but 400 for MEM. This will almost guarantee you never to hold for too long and bag hold. After all we are not in business of investing into these altcoins. We are basically selling our computational power at a set rate. I personally I do keep a few coins to speculate with and plan to accumulate low and sell higher(even it it takes months).

Cryptsy is having a shit ton of trouble right now and people are complaining about missing balances, deposits gone rogue, & support is missing in action!

Some of the regs are saying just wait it out but its not looking rosy by any stretch of the imagination!

Hopefully Cryptsy can get it together ..  until then i think ill watch from a distance.

What alternatives can we use with trademybit until auto trade is available?

909  Economy / Goods / Re: Anonymous PLN Mastercard cards on: January 12, 2014, 11:07:01 PM
No its not solved! He would have came back and said "thanks i got my funds out"

But that didnt happen! There is an inherent risk with these cards..

The risk is that these cards might actually lock you out..  With your funds in it!

Lets see how does that work.

You buy a card and start putting funds in it and it just so happens to be that the batch of cards you bought from is also being sold to some people who are committing fraud or some kind of other criminal activity.

Then when people start going after the people committing fraud they trace to down to a batch of these cards of which you are included in. Since you are part of the batch they just close all the cards and keep your money.

Clearly they are waiting for you to come in and contest the matter.. ( laughs )

You can kiss your funds goodbye!

Nice place op! Im comin ova! Auto trade to btc would be most welcomed. Otherwise looks clean!

^^ Good Luck! I got frustrated with my gd80 and bought another board. I got the G45 today. Gonna use the gd80 to do some gaming.. or something.
912  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: List of motherboard that require shorting pin A1 B17 for pci-e 1x to work. on: January 09, 2014, 01:01:35 AM
Hello,

Does anyone know if an Asrock 970 Extreme4 needs pin shorting? I'm struggling with using it with powered risers (1x to 16x).  Huh

yeah would be nice to know ...
i got two different opinions ... some say "yes" some say "no"

a question all around ....
when i use a dumy plug i don't have to short the port or are this two different things ?!

which wire-type is the best .. any suggestions? any cheap source to get one?
broken usb cable perhaps?! or anything else?

This info was like gold for one of my boards! This guy on another forum went out of his way to show me how he did it so i will return the favor!

Here is the cable im using! Its sitting on the manual for my gd80.. You notice how there are some strands I have pointing downwards and the rest is pointing straight ahead!

First off the cable is from an old power supply! Just clipped of the molex connectors and stripped a quarter of an inch or so of plastic to show the bare wire.

Then i pulled 8 strands or so and pointed them downwards! The rest that were pointing straight i cut off!!

The total length should be about 3inches or so.. I then cut off the other side and stripped and pulled 8 strands and twisted while the rest i cut!

Here is the resulting cable!

Then ends are the 8 strands of wire twisted! That will fit in the pcie hole so you can short it!

Here is a nice photo i found online showing which holes on the pcie slot to put the ends in!

The picture next to it shows the 1x pcie cable inserted while the shorting cable is there!

I hope that helps you on your quest! Be careful not to insert in the wrong pcie hole! Do it while power supply is off!
Double check everything and then power it on. See how on my finished cable there is a bunch of hanging wire on one of the ends .. besides the twisted thread!   Dont do that! Make sure you cut off all the cable you are not using on the ends. Dont wanna short something you had no intention of shorting! I went back and fixed mine!

You likely need to set them to Gen1 bus speed. Leave the top 16x at Gen2 and set bottom 2 to Gen1. This is how your motherboard would be configured for a 3x Crossfire/SLI setup and it is the configuration it needs to be able to detect all the cards and power them properly. You aren't using much bandwidth on the bus when mining so it is fine to set them to lower speed. This is the same reason we can get away with plugging cards into the x1 slots. I highly doubt you need to short them.

Hmm.. went to advanced and all it shows is pcie GEN3    Auto or disabled is the choice? .. Cant really specify which card its just one choice i guess for all?

EDIT : DISABLED IT.. The 4th card didnt get detected  ..

Just wanted to say i was looking for tracking too so i just checked my spam box and tho i didnt find tracking # i did find the email that was sent on the 23rd stating my order was shipping and sent to customs ..

So yeah, gmail is tossing these in the spam box for whatever reason. Marked it "not spam" and moved it to my inbox.. Hopefully when tracking comes i get it ... so check your spam box people ..

^^ ok i will give that a shot. Ill report back if i find that it works.
916  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: List of motherboard that require shorting pin A1 B17 for pci-e 1x to work. on: January 06, 2014, 01:51:22 AM
^^ @Vyker

Whoa .. i didnt realize you can short the 16x pcie slots..

The last 2 16x pcie slots on my board arent working with risers attached.. (msi z77a-gd80)

I read somewhere that i can only use then number 3 and 6 slots or the 1 and 4  slots at the same time for the 1x pcie slots so im using 3 & 6.

Im using the  3 and 6 with the check marks and ive tried shorting with no go for the others.

Is there something in bios i should look for! Whats PEG Gen" to "2"?

Does it apply to gd80? Can it get me past 3 cards. I would be ok running 5 at this point.

917  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Motherboard of choice for 6 or more GPU's on: January 06, 2014, 01:11:04 AM
Whoa! Didnt expect you ta say that! lol

Ive just been naturally removing/disconnecting the cards, all but one ....

and then nuke the drivers and reinstall new drivers and each card one reboot at a time.

What a royal pain in the arse! Maybe someone else can chime in here..

Whats the correct way to driver dance anyone?

Remove cards? or just yank drivers and reinstall the new driver ?
918  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Motherboard of choice for 6 or more GPU's on: January 05, 2014, 04:45:40 AM

^^ Yeah you shouldnt need dummy plugs!

http://www.pixmania.co.uk/motherboard/msi-z87-g45-gaming-socket-1150-chipset-z87-atx/21432621-a.html

msi-z87-g45

Anyone used this board before???

It has 7 PCIe slots, 3 x16 and 3x1.

Its fairly cheap here in the UK for a 7 slot board at around £110.

Think its worth a punt??

Im still driver dancing and OS hopping but if i give up on the gd80 i might just use that as an extra pc and give the board you linked to a shot? Let me know if you get it rocking! I was looking to do 5-6 per board. (280x's)
919  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Motherboard of choice for 6 or more GPU's on: January 05, 2014, 03:38:43 AM
^^ from my understanding the newer drivers require no dummy cards. You on techpowerups 13.12 ?
