921  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcointalk is not an investment on: November 21, 2019, 04:33:10 PM
In the recent period of time, demand of bitcointalk accounts has been increased due to certain signature campaigns where buyers want to buy bitcointalk accounts by paying handsome amount of money. But i want to declare that bitcointalk is not an investment product. Yes most of the people including myself may be here to go to higher ranks and earn some money by signature campaigns as it is a part of sustainability. But buying a higher rank account would not help you as that specific campaign would not be here all the time. So dont waste your money where you dont want to contribute. You are deducting a higher rank account from this place. This place is like community not a mere business.
So kindly dont buy bitcointalk accounts if anyone offers you. It is all about earning through contributions.

You're message is so touching, it gave me that contradictory feeling of delight and emotion at the same time, which I normally only associate with Christmas.

Next time, could you please be so kind and post your messages directly in the "Wall of fame/shame" thread, thus sparing the community's time and energy of having to copypaste it.

923  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Replacing Windows with Linux on: November 20, 2019, 05:25:34 PM
Carlton Banks, what's your opinion about MX? I'm always interested to find out (and try out) new alternatives.

There's a bad aspect to the Linux laissez-faire model: too much choice, to the point of being overwhelming. That's part of the reason why the "main" distros (red hat, debian, slackware, gentoo) rose to the top in the 2000's; there was so much choice that people chose by listening to the technical assessments of people they trust, not by making their own judgements. And to a certain extent, that's how it's continued, distros like Ubuntu just built on top of the trust built up in the Debian brand.

Taking the trust out of the decision making process is therefore the best route around that issue, and so the "source based" distro was born (I think gentoo and crux were the first). Now of course, that approach simply saw a proliferation of models, but at least it's easy to see which is better (gentoo wins on ecosystem and support/community, guix and nixOS have the best trust-less tech model)

I have never thought about it this way. A very interesting point of view, and I do agree - of course - that the best way of finding your own distro would be by making my own judgment. That principle goes for everything in life.

But wouldn't it be extremely time-consuming to install and test every (serious) distro that's out there? I guess you'd need several days and even weeks to make up your mind for only one distro. By the time I'd have substantially tested several distros, I'd have to restart from the beginning, since their development is evolving so rapidly. Cheesy

Grin
925  Other / Meta / Re: Requesting Mods to be a little careful before deleting my posts. on: November 20, 2019, 04:59:52 PM
I was heartbroken and wept like a little girl for weeks. To be honest, it wasn't until recent days that I finally started feeling a little bit better and found happiness in the small things in my life again.
LOL.  Who are you and where have you been?  Humor is desperately needed around these parts.

Love you too, mate. Finally some recognition. You have no idea how many times my so-called desperately needed humor got me kicked out or banned from Telegram channels, forums and Twitter accounts. Sarcasm is soooo 20th-century (so it seems).

927  Other / Meta / Re: I'm Hero Member Now - Thank You Everyone on: November 20, 2019, 04:44:01 PM
So I was only 2 weeks (14 activity) away from becoming Hero Member when theymos introduced merit system. It was like someone reset my downloading progress from 99% to 50%.  Cheesy

It happened to many people.  Thank you for not complaining and demanding the rules change!

Great work mate!

I don't have a clue at which rank I'd be today if the Merit system hadn't been introduced, but to be frank, I haven't really felt unhappy about the fact that I didn't rank up automatically. It really feels like ages since the Merit introduction. I do remember that the whining in the Meta boards at that time was horribly annoying.

Looking at myself, if I'm totally honest, I believe that my devotion to the forum has only evolved in a positive way, thanks to the Merit system. No doubt the quality of my posts has gone up, because you think twice before posting just anything - but also because of the fact that my knowledge has expanded thanks to the posts of the many other members on the forum. At the same time, I've become more severe for shitposters, because I'm also trying to be more severe for my own posts.
928  Other / Meta / Re: The inclusion of large, unnecessary images in threads. Opinions? on: November 20, 2019, 04:35:33 PM
Those images can be damned annoying but please let's not exaggerate with the rules on this forum...

However, I have been (successfully) reporting several members who felt the need to quote the entire post - giant image included - in their reply.

If you don't have the intelligence of snipping at least the image from your quote, I think this still qualifies as spam, even if your reply isn't necessarily of low quality.
929  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Bounties (Altcoins) / Re: [BXUNTY] ConcertVR Official BOUNTY CAMPAIGN!! |www.concertvr.io| on: November 19, 2019, 11:28:36 PM
Another bounty campaign that has been long forgotten. I can however confirm that the project is still alive. The first VR concerts are available for quite some time now, and a collaboration with Nickelodeon has been confirmed. Not bad, I'd say.

The real reason I am necrobumping this post, is the fact that the bounties are FINALLY being distributed.

YOU HAVE TO HURRY! Check out your e-mail and their bounty pages, because there is only 2 days left to claim your CVT tokens. You have to fill out a small form and that's it.

I got my reward in the bounty but hopefully the team will list in a better exchange which will help the project gain more exposure.

I think it'll be better if they invest their time and energy in the project, instead of exchanges. You talk about project exposure, but what you really meant (and all you care about) is token exposure. We've seen where that attitude has led several "project exposures" to in 2017 and 2018.
930  Other / Meta / Re: Is Bitcoin not supposed to be about FREEDOM ??? on: November 19, 2019, 11:20:25 PM
So your post has been locked but not removed and it's still freely available to read by everyone on the forum. I'm not sure you understand the definition of censorship.
931  Local / Nederlands (Dutch) / Re: Merit in Nederlandstalige community on: November 16, 2019, 10:53:39 AM

Allemaal verspilde Merits dammit! Cool
932  Other / Meta / Re: Inconsistency regarding who can post in Ivory Tower on: November 14, 2019, 04:46:57 PM
Given that the Ivory Tower is supposed to be a discussion board for serious senior members, I think it is sad that more eligible members don't contribute there. I did my bit to try to encourage its use, but I couldn't fight the sig famine there.

You are right JC, and looking at the posts you have indeed done an impressive job in trying to get more souls entering the Ivory Tower. I'm trying to do the same in the Dutch boards, with mixed results, so I know the feeling. Smiley

Truth is - and now I'm talking from a completely personal point of view - to me it feels a bit weird to discuss non-crypto-related subjects in a crypto-related forum. So in all honesty, to me it has absolutely nothing to do with the absence of sigs, and I really think allowing sigs wouldn't change this (a lot). In any case, not for my share of posting.
933  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Replacing Windows with Linux on: November 14, 2019, 04:40:23 PM
Soros has just bought a load of shares in Red Hat. I wonder why he did that. Smiley

Still waiting for your experiences in the last months, JC Wink

FYI, I've received my new notebook in the meantime. I haven't started with a clean Linux MX install but just moved my HD from my old to my new laptop. It's a HP Probook 470 G5, not known as the most Linux-friendly notebooks... However, it's running smoothly and it's extremely silent, which is a huge difference compared to my old gaming laptop. Sometimes, my screen remains black after restarting from sleep modus. Also, my laptop freezes when I leave fullscreen modus in VLC. Quite peculiar, since I've never had any troubles before. I've switched the graphic card settings from the Hybrid card in the BIOS configuration. This seems to have solved the issue. No problems since, but it has only been 3 days, so we'll see...

Carlton Banks, what's your opinion about MX? I'm always interested to find out (and try out) new alternatives.

Anders spreken jullie af in een plaatselijke Intratuin, palmbomen zat! Grin.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-11-12/blockchain-is-dead-crypto-geeks-debate-merits-of-once-dear-tech

Smiley

edit: Artikel is kort maar omvat veel onderwerpen... Speculatie... Blockchain als concept (en niet als speculatiemiddel)... (De vele mislukte) ICO's?  enz...
936  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: FIO Protocol: A proposed solution to usability problems of blockchain-based asse on: November 13, 2019, 07:50:57 PM
Looks like OP didn't listen to you, Vod... Cheesy

However, in the meantime this FIO Protocol is supported by quite a lot of "Fio Members", as there are: Coinomi, Bitcoin.com, Enjin Wallet, Shapeshift etc. And of course, it's a wallet-related concept, so in a way, it also involves BTC.

OP posted this almost a year ago, but since then, it seems no other threads where opened on these boards about the Fio Foundation - much to my surprise.

https://fio.foundation/

The video on the website is quite childish ("oh my god these long crypto addresses are so scary"), but the concept of "replacing" your wallet address by an easy-to-remember protocol, seems interesting. I see some similarities with the relationship between a website's domain name and its "invisible" IP address.

I need to read more before I decide if I'd want a FIO address, but I think this project at least deserves our attention.

Cool
938  Local / Nederlands (Dutch) / Re: Maandelijkse updates voor btc on: November 12, 2019, 09:58:10 PM

Cheesy
939  Other / Meta / Re: Requesting Mods to be a little careful before deleting my posts. on: November 12, 2019, 09:37:28 PM
You know mate, a long time ago I had several of my posts removed because I replied ridiculously to ridiculous threads. For instance, when some dude opened a thread asking "will btc go up sir?" i replied "yes". It was irony, yet it got deleted. I was heartbroken and wept like a little girl for weeks. To be honest, it wasn't until recent days that I finally started feeling a little bit better and found happiness in the small things in my life again.

However, I really did not feel the need to open a thread in the Meta section for this.
940  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Looking for investors Borocoin (BORO) CEO on: November 12, 2019, 09:29:19 PM
It's beautiful mate, what font did you use for your "B" this time?

Oh just one last thing, I'll post a copy of your artwork myself, just to make sure you don't delete it again, like your other pièce de résistance. In case people want to see where it all started, you know...

Maybe, just for future generations, you could post your first logo.

Good luck with your dividends.
