941  Other / Meta / Re: Why's PrimeNumber7 trust different # + on: August 11, 2023, 12:01:35 PM
If it's displaying # for flags why can't decodx see it. He's used multiple browsers.

I can see it now when I put the ;dt switch at the end of the url. Like this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2561166;dt
That means it has something to do with my custom trust list. I need to look into it further...
942  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Failed to submit review and also did not refund the payment. on: August 11, 2023, 12:25:51 AM
His forum activity was rather sporadic even prior to enrolling in the review campaign. Nonetheless, he had a responsibility to honor his commitment, especially after he requested an extension for the deadline. It's either that or he should return the money. Pretty stupid way to ruin Sr. Member account.

I also support the flag.
943  Other / Meta / Re: Why's PrimeNumber7 trust different # + on: August 11, 2023, 12:08:31 AM
It's the only user stats I've seen showing dual # + trust rating. If others display it what's the # mean? I'm posting in Meta I didn't find any where else more suitable. Is it a code bug?

It must be something on your end because I don't see it. Tested on multiple browsers. Do you have any userscripts, like Tampermonkey, running or something like that?
944  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lets Discuss All Casino/Gambling Related Movies Here on: August 10, 2023, 09:02:45 PM
Oh the good ol' God Of gamblers. I have heard of it before and I think I also saw some clips of it but I haven't finished the whole movie because we don't have our own VCD that time. It was our neighbor who has a good liking about this movie because she was also a gambler. I always saw her playing card games along with our other neighbors. When I was a kid, I also heard about Casino Royale. I think it was played by James Bond.

Yes, this is a old Hong Kong movies in the 90's if I'm not mistaken. But it was really a good movie specially during that time I was just starting to play and gamble early in the streets. The movie also has a lot of sequels, and it started a lot genre of movies depicting gambling.

Is this the movie you're talking about? God of Gamblers (1989) - IMDb
Check out the original trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRH6m3IBXn0.

I find it hard to believe anyone could label this as a good movie, even by 90s standards! Grin Perhaps it's just the trailer that comes across as too goofy to me. I've never actually watched the entire movie.

I'm not really sure if someone mentions "Rounders" as well, another great movie about high stakes pokers, starring a young but promising actor, - Matt Damon and the great John Malkovich (1998).

I agree. It's a good movie featuring Matt Damon and Edward Norton.

It's been more than a month since the OP started this discussion, and he hasn't engaged in the forum since then. Is it really necessary to resurrect a thread like this that has already concluded its course? There might not be much reason to bring it back up.
946  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Basic Mining Reward Question on: August 07, 2023, 12:37:22 AM
So to confirm these calculators assume you are running in a pool? But in this case the calculators must assume that the pool will win a certain percentage of the block rewards right? How would they even begin to guess what that percentage would be?

This is how I understand it: Imagine that there are only two mining pools, and each of them holds exactly half of the total hash power of the Bitcoin network. Logically, this means that each of them will mine an equal percentage of blocks in the long run.

So, in this context, the calculators don't need to know the winning percentage; they only need to determine the percentage of your hash power in relation the network's total power. Of course, it can happen that some pool is extremely unlucky for a while, but it all tend to balance out over time.

I'm not sure if Fivestar4everMVP meant for this thread to focus solely on feature films, or if documentaries are also welcome here. Anyway, a while back, I came across a great documentary that I think would be beneficial for anyone interested in sports betting.

The movie is called "Life on the Line", released in 2013, and it provides an in-depth look into the lives of the world's top professional sports bettors in Las Vegas during the most significant betting event of the year. I highly recommend it!

You can watch the entire documentary here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=un_xwVRiSnw
948  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is Bitcoin still Beta Software on: August 06, 2023, 09:36:14 PM
Work in progress and beta is not the same. Most software that is actively used is also actively developed with new features being added and bugs getting fixed. Beta version is not a full version, it lacks certain important parts without which the software is not complete. I would argue that when Satoshi released Bitcoin, it had all the necessary core features for doing what Satoshi has described in the whitepaper.

I understand your point, but I disagree. This is not how the software release lifecycle usually goes. The Alpha and Beta phases in software development are intended for testing the software and correcting bugs. Typically, the Alpha phase is conducted by the software development team, and the Beta phase involves the wider community or specific customers (or testers). There is no point in testing a product that doesn't even have core features completed.

After all, as I mentioned before, even Satoshi referred to the software as Beta from the time he released it until the end of his involvement in its development.
949  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What happens if USDT falls down? on: August 05, 2023, 08:20:36 PM
If you ask my replay to this, I can say I will ok with it. Because I put my 20% into USDT right now. Why? because you know guys there is an Old saying Never put your all eggs in the same basket.  Wink

For me, USD serves as a transitional currency between fiat money and cryptocurrencies. I really don't see any compelling reason to hold a significant part of my portfolio in USDT or any other so-called stablecoin. Wouldn't fiat be a safer option in that case?
950  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is Bitcoin still Beta Software on: August 05, 2023, 07:30:07 PM
I don't think the officially released Bitcoin software could ever count as beta, because beta implies that there will be a full release with a new blockchain. Sure, there was a lot of bugs in early days, but software in general is quite buggy at version 1.0, because bugs get uncovered when lots of users start to actually use the software. By definition beta is something incomplete, and when satoshi mined the first block, the software already was complete and had all the necessary functions for sending and receiving money.

I'm not entirely sure about that. Even Satoshi himself called the software as a beta version.

Someday when we haven't found any new bugs for a long time and it has been thoroughly security reviewed without finding anything, this can be scaled back.  I'm not arguing that this is the permanent way of things forever.  It's still beta software.

and even when Satoshi left the project, the software was still a work in progress, and further improvements and enhancements were made in subsequent versions.
951  Economy / Gambling / Re: Whats happening with Betnomi? on: August 05, 2023, 06:43:01 PM
If they were profitable there was not reason to do this. Obviously.

We can't really know for sure. They might have been unprofitable, or maybe not. They ran some decent promotions on the forum and gave the impression that they had enough funds, up until the very end.

Ever since I joined this forum, I've read about some popular and long-lasting gambling platforms like YoloDice and Luckybit that shut down. It's not uncommon in the gambling world. But the owners of those platforms did the right thing, announcing the closure in advance, giving users time to withdraw their funds, and then closing down. Betnomi's owner, on the other hand, just disappeared without a word. Looks more like an exit scam to me rather than simply going bankrupt. But that's just my opinion.
952  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Anonymity is no longer a benefit of gambling with cryptocurrency. on: August 05, 2023, 02:07:00 PM
One by one all the exchanges and casinos became pro-KYC businesses. Kucoin and freebitco.in also joined this freak show not long ago. These were the only never-KYC businesses I know and now they are also doing KYC. (freebitco.in says nothing has changed but for some reason I don't really believe this)

As far as I know, Kucoin hasn't been "never-KYC" for a very long time. They officially implemented KYC since November 2018. Until recently, they had a 24-hour withdrawal limit for non-KYC customers. (source) Now, KYC is mandatory for everyone.

Regarding Freebico.in, I'm still a non-KYC user, so I'm not entirely sure about the exact changes that have taken place. It's possible that the introduction of KYC was solely for the purpose of detecting and deterring cheaters.
953  Economy / Gambling / Re: Punt.com | Win $1,000,000! | Biggest Crypto Casino | Instant Withdrawals! ✅ on: August 05, 2023, 01:37:39 PM
I was referring to https://www.puntcasino.com NOT to your Casino https://punt.com/   Not only is the logos, name and colors surprisingly similar, but the provider of https://www.puntcasino.com also always use Punt only inside their communications.
<...>

Now, that's quite a mistake! But it's great to see that you've taken the time to clarify and apologize.

By the way, if you're looking for an official ANN thread for "Punt casino" and their representative, you can find it here. However, I've noticed that their representative hasn't been active on the forum for a long time, and the thread is practically dead, so I don't think it will be of any use to you.
954  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Anonymity is no longer a benefit of gambling with cryptocurrency. on: August 05, 2023, 01:14:44 PM
So, just leave the balance on your account, don't withdraw, just gamble from the balance that you have because that's all you can, you can't beat casino and come with winnings, otherwise casinos wouldn't exist. So, just leave the balance as it is, come back days or weeks later, gamble and repeat. This way, you'll avoid KYC verification while still be able to gamble anonymously.

This is such bad advice on so many levels. Regardless of KYC, the same principle applies as with centralized exchanges: one should never hold significant amounts on any online casino or any other online platform. And if you still believe that your advice holds merit, consider explaining it in light of recent events related to the Betnomi platform and its customers, for instance.
955  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is Bitcoin still Beta Software on: August 05, 2023, 12:08:15 PM
I have never really thought or seen Bitcoin as beta software.
<...>

According to the FAQ section from the Bitcoin.org website:

Quote
  • Ongoing development - Bitcoin software is still in beta with many incomplete features in active development. New tools, features, and services are being developed to make Bitcoin more secure and accessible to the masses. Some of these are still not ready for everyone. Most Bitcoin businesses are new and still offer no insurance. In general, Bitcoin is still in the process of maturing.
https://bitcoin.org/en/faq#what-are-the-disadvantages-of-bitcoin

So, even though the Bitcoin Core software is no longer in beta, Bitoin as a whole is still considered to be "in the process of maturing". I think that's a good explanation.
956  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Deciding Between Mining and Direct Investment on: August 05, 2023, 11:56:38 AM
Based on these calculations, it becomes clear that it will take you almost a year and a half just to break even. Considering that the Bitcoin halving event is less than a year away, I would personally opt to invest directly. Many of us anticipate the next bull run to start sometime next year and reach its peak in 2025. Thus, rather than investing in hardware, I would choose to invest money directly in BTC. The money that would otherwise be spent on electricity can be used for dollar-cost averaging (DCA), so that I accumulate even more before the next bull run.

I believe that it can take longer than we expected, but they will be back and we'll be playing poker on their amazing platform.

With all due respect (and you know I like and respect you a lot), you have got to be kidding here, no?  Huh

Hahahaha! I have to agree here. I don't know what Betwrong was thinking, but I certainly don't believe that after all this time, they can simply come back with something like "Sorry guys, we were on vacation!" and resume their operations. Trust is of utmost importance in the gambling business, and once you lose it, you can hardly get it back.
958  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: My new favorite betting method. on: August 05, 2023, 10:51:51 AM
That's why is an enormous difference between my method and martingale, they are totally different in the long run. And even if its a variance of Martingale, I feel this method deserve it's own name.
They have their differences, but on long run I don't think the result will be different... On both methods if you hit a long loss streak you are doomed and won't be able to continue playing, what inevitably happens sooner or later.

With your method, let's say I bet 2$, 3$, 4$, 5$ and lose all bets. Then I already have a 14$ loss. Next, I place a 6$ bet and 12$ return to the bankroll. It doesn't worth, because you put 20$ on the table to profit 6$ in the end. Then besides playing against the house, you are also struggling against your own strategy on long term. It may be good on short loss streaks, but not on the longer ones above 5 losses in a row, which are quite common.

You might have overlooked the fact that with his method, you must also increase the multiplier with each bet. For instance, if you place a $6 bet, you should set a x6 multiplier, which would yield a $36 return if you win. So, the total wager would be $20, resulting in $36 won and a profit of $16.

As I see it, the math checks out, but the strategy still has a flaw when you encounter a long losing streak, which will ultimately deplete your entire balance sooner or later.
959  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there anyone know how many bitcoins disappear forever? on: August 04, 2023, 10:10:23 PM
I recently stumbled upon a Google search, and it caught my attention that newsbtc released a report stating that Six Million BTC Are Out Of Circulation Forever. This suggests that if their report is accurate, six million Bitcoin have been lost.

No! Nothing suggests that their report is accurate. Even in the tweet they shared, Timothy Peterson stated: "I estimate that..." This indicates that it's just an estimate, and nothing more.
Even if you read the entire article in the link that Mr. Peterson shared, you will see that there is no concrete evidence of lost coins; rather, they used a specific methodology to estimate the amount of lost coins. There's no way to know if their methodology is even remotely accurate.

However, I personally think the actual number might be higher...

Based on what?
960  Other / Meta / Re: TalkImg.com - Image hosting for BitcoinTalk on: August 04, 2023, 09:21:56 PM
<...>
Is this some SEO issue?

I tried just now and it showed another result "talking":

<...>
if you click "Search instead for talkimg " it will show talkimg in the first result

It's not an SEO issue; that's just Google trying to be "smart." Since the word "talkimg" is very similar to "talking," Google treats it as a typo and prioritizes results related to "talking" first. That's why you get the "Search instead for talkimg" suggestion below.

To work around this, you can put "Talkimg" (with quotes) in the search, and it will display the correct results from the get-go.

Shouldn't the Upload and Reset button function as the same thing because when I finished uploading one image, I try to press upload but it doesn't prompt me to the upload function, I always have to press the Reset. Anyways, it's a minor inconvenience for me only so I don't mind that it's changed but I just want to say something about it and let people be aware of it.

In reality, they are different functions.

The upload button opens the upload tab, which after uploading the image displays the image data.
To be able to send a new image, you have to re-load this tab, that's why there is the reset.

Imagine that the "upload" button opens a new page, where everything is then managed.

Maybe the best thing was to change the name of the "reset" button? What do you guys think?
The problem is it doesn't prompt me to upload a new image, it just shows a dropdown list, try to upload an image and then click the Upload, that's what I'm talking about. I don't really mind if you don't change it and I think the reset is just fine. I shouldn't complain that much considering I use it for free.

I think that's how it should work. When you upload one image (or several at once), your next step is to select and copy the embed codes that you'll use on the forum. Now, imagine that you forget to copy the codes and accidentally click somewhere on the website, closing the upload tab. You'd have no way to go back (unless you're logged in), and you'd have to upload the same image again. That's why the Upload button was designed to show you the codes for the already uploaded image again.

If you want to upload new images, you don't have to click on "RESET"; instead, you can simply click on the TALK[img] logo or refresh the website. This will start a new session, and the Upload button will revert to its primary functionality again.
