So I'll deal with it until their crap warranty is up, then let me adjust my own fans, this is annoying as hell lol. In it's own room in the basement, and I can hear it scream through the floors

Honestly the fans on this thing are stupid, I can whisper to someone beside it one minute, and the next minute you gotta yell. Why not find a bloody balance instead of on off?

The fan thing and the freq are related as the fan rpm is adjusted to the highest temp of the 3 boards.
I understand that, But they dial right down, nearly off. than crank back up to make turbine speed. This is why the damn thing is so noisy, if it idled at 80% or so, it wouldn't need to crank up nearly as often, keeping noise down and temp spikes down. The fluctuating temp/speed is annoying. Check whether your miner is actually restarting, when it cranks down. Or maybe part of the mining process. Am looking at this atm myself. This would explain it a bit. In theory, when the miner would be constantly running, and one of the cards has a very high temperature, the fan should be running constantly high. Remark here, cranking the fan down manually (if it would be possible) to 80% would probably cause the high temp card to overheat & break for sure. Better would be to have all cards in same frequency range, so all cards have roughly same temperature range, then the automatic adjustment of the fan would work nicely (and probably at lot less noisy). No not setting a Max, a Min. I can hear it, and it doesn't turn off, it spins up, then dies right down, then spins back up a little later. Miner keeps hasing away constantly. I'd like to see the minimum speed stay higher, maybe it wouldn't kick into turbine mode so often.

I can understand the Frequency thing, for over clocking.. but should allow underclocking...
But the fans? WTF Bitmain, how many complaints has this brought up? Fix it!

I had actually planned to underclock mine down to pull 1250 or so at the wall so to use my PSU I already have, Instead I had to power down the centre board, guess it's time to source a second PSU>

Just got my S9, latest batch, why do I have no advanced config like the manual says I should? Am I unable to throttle the frequency back on this beast? Seems silly...
New machine has the fuck you I am the boss firmware. To be serious it is all on auto pilot your only hash rate control is to turn the power on or off. Well that's horseshit, I'd of not bought one had I known this. This and their fan control is nuts, why can't I set them to constantly be just less then blaring? up down up down, is annoying, and I doubt good for the fans lol... Anyone build a by pass plug to trick the machine and let me run the the fans off a rheostat?

Ya I'm pretty skeptical of this as well. Would love to try it, but if in 9 months they close the account I'm out all my backups etc.

That's a lot of miners. Love to know which farm this is haha

In Canada the best I find is $70 for a KW for 30 days..

To cold can hurt it really, don't believe they have a built in warm up. Do you have sufficient power in the shed? and is it insulated? how vented is it?
|
|
|
I see this all the time, I just bought this thing, now can someone explain how it works. Lol
If you have cheap or free power, and live in a cold climate, the S3 isn't horrible to run... as it will supplement your heat bill. As for making back the $100... Not ever going to happen. GPU mining alt coins is the way to go these days.
You need to do a LOT of research

Likely an apartment or some such? I'd not want to live with those lol

Hello fellow Canadian, I also hail from the land of the friging cold as hell. I'm in MB, I ran some in my shed last year, it's a hasle, the biggest issue is ventilation, which at the coldest temp's it won't need a lot.. but also air quality. Your miner will get dirty fast. I run mine in my furnace room, ducted directly into my return during the winter. Some days my furnace doesn't kick on at all. Basically free power

Help, I am a computer guy. I see a lot of talk about EVGA and power supplies but no one mentions UPS. UPS is not required or not desired or?
UPS is designed to run an office pc for 20 minutes. A UPS big enough to handle a mining rig would be retardedly expensive. That being said, running your modem/router/hubs on one is a good idea, as the miners can come online faster then the internet. and then can lag on rebooting them.

No WU will not work, they want direct bank to bank, for th eincreased cost I decided to go with an S9 I'll just under power a little to ensure it lasts.
|
|

Hell I replaced my basement space heater with 3 S3's on an EVGA, that I run year round to keep the humidity in check and chill out of the floor. I almost bought one of them home miners they just launched, but price was to high. I bought the 14th S9, so I'll look at throttling it down over summer a bit to keep noise better and just do the same thing with my basement

Electricity is not ALWAYS the big issue some thing. In Canada where I live, temps hit -40 at times in the winter. and we have electric heat, or at least I do.. My furnace room is large and well ventilated, So I run my Miners in the winter, near my furnace, and pipe the heat into the return. I essentially heat my home with the miners. The Efficiency is hard to measure. but I like to think they burn near the same power to produce the same heat. So I'm effectively running the miners for free. At least in the cold months

This makes sense, got guys confused, I've used much of Jabber's hardware, without ever an issue.
