461  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: November 26, 2016, 10:40:59 PM
Tried to update b12 to 11-25 firmware and the spinning wheel never stopped. After reboot miner is on the same old firmware.
Maybe I did not have enough patience? It is a 38.8mb file and I have to upload it to hosting (who knows what the speed is).
Did anybody had to wait more than a couple of min?
Additionally, does new firmware reduce chip temp a little? I have one miner that has PCB at 57-62, but chip is at 92-95.

It reduces it yes,
Stops the spin up as well.
It can take 10 or 15 to update, rebooting it while in an upgrade is a really good way to brick a machine.. you got lucky.
462  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: My friend and I are thinking of mining Bitcoins.... on: November 26, 2016, 08:42:21 PM
I'd like to point out that the ops Username is clearly misleading. lol

S9, maybe S7 as in Canada you can use the heat to supplement your heating, if you can put it away where it won't be heard.
But they are all loud, since the S3 Sad

Site is timing out. Fun
464  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: November 26, 2016, 03:07:41 PM
So my batch 21 13.5 s9  purchased from Bitmain Colorado 5 Nov was actually getting pretty decent numbers, took a look at it one morning and pow, one board not hashing…power down/up multiple times etc etc .. no change, contacted Colorado, sent them the appropriate screen shots, they offered an exchange of the entire unit, bundled it up and shipped it off yesterday.  I don’t recall reading anyone else exchanging an entire unit, could this be the beginnings of EXCELLENT customer service?Huh
Are you referring to bitmain warranty?
I've heard they are good.
465  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: November 26, 2016, 04:02:55 AM
The latest firmware.. Or the last few?
Have you set the Freq for autotune on install, so you could downclock an s9, but would need to reflash the FW every time you want to chnge Freq.
As it can only be done on initial install.
466  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Single EVGA 1000GQ PSU (1000 GQ) for use on a 15A/120V Bitmain S9? on: November 26, 2016, 02:54:35 AM
The latest firmware allows you to set a freq on initial firmware install. So I guess you COULD downgrade with a firmware install
467  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Okay I am trying to figure if a group buy from canaan is needed or not. on: November 25, 2016, 06:18:47 PM
Not really a secret...
Bitcoin = having issues in China with that, and the volume they likely will move makes getting cash a hassle most likely. dick move but I see where they come from.
Credit card and paypal have fee's which they don't want to deal with etc. most likely, and can all be clawed back.

Bank to bank transfer, no fee, a lot harder to claw back.

From a simplicity point I see their thought process.
From a business point, they are probably still selling shit tonnes of them.

But from a different business point, they are pissing off and alienating a lot of potential buyers.

Maybe batch one will be like this for a QUICK and easy ROI, and later on they will open to BTC? Who knows..
468  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience is now dabbling with 16nm ASICs for new designs on: November 25, 2016, 06:15:05 PM
I'm down for a number of the 2pacs, if I can find a nice 7-10 port hub that will run them.

The pods interest me greatly, I'll have free power for 5 months in the new year in a hotel room, could REALLY use them by then!
Even the sticks!

Sign me up for the first batch!
469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: solo mining setup Antmner S5 on: November 25, 2016, 04:14:05 PM
you can solo mine through antpool.com and save yourself grief.
But you will be burning a fair bit of power for something not likely to pay you squat ever...
Most solo miners run sticks or routers just for that odd chance at a few pennies a day.
470  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Single EVGA 1000GQ PSU (1000 GQ) for use on a 15A/120V Bitmain S9? on: November 25, 2016, 04:10:02 PM
Old thread I know,
but you can't underclock an S9, so drop that idea right now.
Yeah. I'm running my S9, batch 2 at ~9.8Th/s (456.25Mhz frequency) with 1000W Enermax Revolution 87+ power supply.
Yes but the new batches, 12 and on I believe, are autotune. You can't adjust the Frequency, so you can't step them down a bit to come under power requirements.
The new 11th ones would likely be okay on 1300watts. but the 14th model I have, from the latest batch, pulls 1425 at the wall. No way to bring it down to squeak it onto a 1300watt psu.
471  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Looking for Advice on 16 to 20" INDUSTRIAL window fan in CANADA on: November 25, 2016, 04:05:09 PM
Your big concern with the setup, I think is that you want to have an in and out fan beside each other,
Your best bet will be to pipe in the outside air to the back side of the room.
You could likely run 2 5" dryer liners in over and down the back wall, and get away with a large exhaust fan.

As for the CFM you are after, you will never get a silent version. That's going to be hella noisy lol
472  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: November 25, 2016, 03:32:45 PM
4-wire PWM fan standard dictates the PWM driver have an open-collector output, which means it has to be pulled low for the fan to see "low" and floating means "high". Standard also states I believe 24KHz with about 4KHz of play to either side as within tolerance.

I've got an idea for a controller that wouldn't take more than about a day to put together, but it could be set to either a maximum or minimum PWM. It'd detect the controller's drive PWM and override it if it crossed threshold. Something like that would be useful for an undervolted miner or S7LN where when the miner first kicks on the fan pulls up to 100% and it's loud. Or it could give a lower threshold to limit the up-and-down throttling of the autotune miners.
Probably should have had something like this prototyped already. I figured out how to do the PWM detect and override like a month ago, just haven't gotten around to coding it.

I was just thinking of this as well.
A controller that monitors the low, and won't allow it to drop bellow a set value, possibly also can do the same for the high? would be nice to keep the fans just under that nice whistle, around 3700RPM, above that they seem to whistle.
I'd buy this, please if you do it let me know, I'll be the first in line!

Any updates on new hardware being released ?

Have you been living in a cave ?

clearly, also couldn't bother to read the last few pages even. lol

I installed this in a buddies farm

19th nov firmware is the best one
stable fan speed and low temp

Somehow I was unable to find this??? Do you have a link?
Thank you

Here it is:

https://shop.bitmain.com/files/download/Antminer-S9-all-201611190345-autofreq-user.tar.gz

Have been running this for half an hour,
Thus far the fans are staying higher speed, 3400 and 4000 rpm,
The 4k one seems to be going just fast enough to scream a little. Which is to bad, would like to get rid of the squeel, the howl I can live with.
But the temps are sitting just bellow the 90s, where as before one of my cards was sitting at 100 constantly.

Putting the S9 back to this firmware does help the fans issue!!

Read the last two pages we discussed this, not an option yet, some work arounds, older FW will help, it's linked above.

How much will it be to host one of these?
479  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Looking for Advice on buying 16-20" window cooling fan in CANADA on: November 24, 2016, 01:52:56 PM
I've seen those window fans at homedepot and rona, all over Canada.
They may however be off season, so something you would need to search for.

https://www.homedepot.ca/en/home/p.thin-black-window-fan.1000803277.html

and a less cool looking cheaper option

480  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: November 24, 2016, 01:49:24 PM
I don't look forward to warranty work, I'm unsure how to claim the taxes on the returned part, fedex dinged me $300 when it came in the first time, if those SOB's try it on a warrantied machine I may have to stab someone Smiley

I will try that new firmware tonight.
But when I look at my miner control panel, one of my boards reads 99, and the others are high 80s. Seems to warm to me. or warmer then I would like.
Yet with no control WTF am I supposed to do about it?
