1021  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - Secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - Now on Hitbtc.com on: July 15, 2014, 03:59:26 PM
(I still maintain the lowest block reward should be at least 1 monero.)

What are the inputs that must be considered when setting the eternal inflation parameters for a PoW coin? From technical perspective, I mean.

From economical perspective, 100 years of growth at 2% APR is 624% per century. Granted, century is a long time, but also the current system with its wasteful resource acquisition and general footprint on pristine nature, cannot continue 1-2 more centuries with this growth rate.

On the other hand, gold production of about 1.2% (historically higher ~2%) can be regarded as near optimal, because gold has held its value vs. oil in the last decades.

If the economic and population growth abate, 0% is of course optimal as you cannot go lower.

=> The quick thinking would point to 0.5%-2% bracket, and it must be percentage, not a fixed amount.

This is a really important matter. A 1%-point fail can easily destroy the coin. (see silver inflation in 1850-1870 for instance how a precious metal was destroyed)

Risto, read the economy thread if you havent and continue the discussion there. This will be far better than it getting lost in here.

It will probably answer some of your inital questions too.

1023  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] [Highest Paid Signature] Earn Bitcoins Simply By Posting on: July 15, 2014, 03:39:56 PM
Do you need to have 50 posts on the 17th or the day before?

Just make 50 before you claim on the 17th. So if you are two short and its the 17th, make two posts and then claim.

1025  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [OFFICIAL]Bitfinex.com first Bitcoin P2P lending platform for leverage trading on: July 15, 2014, 01:58:03 PM
Dear All

as promised some days ago I would like to introduce our community with Josh Rossi, who from now on will be our PR guy and the person to talk to for any suggestion or advice about our trading platform.

Josh (aka mjr on bitcointalk) is the guy that started Satoshi Square in New York several months ago and has been a long time bitcoin evangelist, conference speaker and he actively contributed to bootstrap a lot of startups in our field.

From now on he will pretty much take over my place in answering questions from you all, I'm sure he will do a much better job than me in this.  Wink

Last but not least I would like to apologize for anything I might have written on this thread that hurt the feelings of any of you.
I will from now on concentrate more on other tasks, even if I'll keep reading you all.

Thanks a lot for the trust and your positive feedback to Bitfinex.

Giancarlo
Bitfinex Team

Cheers for your time Giancarlo, youve personally helped me a number of times and havent hurt my feelings!

Good luck!

I have female friends who use and trade BTC I personally dont get the old stigma that IT or technical skills in regards to new techonology is almost completely male, thats a very old view in my eyes.

I think he's right. I too think we will go down a lot soon.

Please sell Shroomsy that way you can prove to yourself what you spend the majority of your time ranting and raving about Wink

Your no fun when you say your gonna sell all the time, just do it...

Uhm wow. Not once, i repeat, not once have i even hinted at selling. I have no idea what you are talking about.

Take out the last line, I realise you havent said your actually going to sell. Stands to reason though if you think we're going to to go down a lot soon why wouldn't you.

Uhm because i don't trade? I believe Bitcoin will get big and i'm not gonna risk losing out by selling. I don't care about making a quick buck now. I already sold at 900 to get my investment back plus a bonus. I'm all or nothing now.

I know the answer really and you know Im just pulling your plonker, can see how bored we are...
Last sentance reminds me of BilllyJoeAllens epic post, speaking of which when was the last time anyone heard from him? Been missing since he sold at $4xx

Guys, I don't understand monerotalk.org is the official XMR site or not?

As far as I understand there is no official website and all updates are laid out in this thread.

Wrong, official site is monero.cc currently. Though it is undergoing a rehaul and you will do better getting your updates from here.

Monerotalk.org is a forum for just Monero talk. Just like darkcointalk etc etc

Do XMR people have a Twitter account to spread the news fast? I thought Twitter has replaced news feed in most places.

Do you even try and look for these things or just talk without thinking.

Its all in the 1st post   https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.msg6382239#msg6382239

No, the info channel about this coin is rather narrow. It is mainly limited to this thread and the section on reddit.com, as far as I know.

Is there a pie chart or some such showing the current distribution of network hashing power?

No pie chart, all available charts are currently on   http://monerochain.info/charts
1033  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: July 15, 2014, 11:13:38 AM
I know its not the best of names but the supply is lower than Monero

How would a coin like OEC - OneEvilCoin (New Cryptonote coin) with these specs fair against XMR price

Block reward decreases according to the formula (8265395001600000000 -1 - A) * 2-21 * 10-12, where A = supply mined to date
Total coins: 8 265 395

Yawn, specs don't matter with no innovation. i.e a cryptonote coin copy paste.

Network effect, frst mover advantage is huge and even more so with nothing new but a changed emmision rate. I mean you cant be serious (other than just as a pump and dump) that a coin called OneEvilCoin will ever be used in a serious enviroment.

Maybe I'm wrong. I only express my opinion as you.

XMR looks kinda suspicious for me. That's all.

Okay your welcome to your suspicions whatever they may be but just dont try and label a community racist, for a start its pretty difficult for a whole community to be racist and even IF they were that has no bearing on the coin at all. Im not sure what your trying to suggest but I advise you to just get on with your life and leave us to it if you think its suspicious instead of making audacious accusations.

Still waiting...

I have also PM'd XBTec.

A few more hours and neg feedback will be left as well as the opening of a scam accusation thread. Just pay up its 0.07BTC!

Calm down guys, he has paid the majority and only has 0.07 left which I don't think will be a problem for him to pay off. He hasn't been online since yesterday and is probably busy with the asics.

Giving him negative feedback just for late payments seems a bit steep. Just wait it out, I'm sure the 4 persons left unpaid aren't in a hurry.

Im calm thanks,

yeah and I PM'd him BEFORE  he came online yesterday, he also made all the other payments and has been online several times since and has to have seen that there are people who havent been paid. Also if you go through a well put together spreadsheet like yakamotos its immpossible to just miss people accidently.

Theres late payments then theres 5 days late....

OK, but even if we all remove the signature today.  You still one more round of payments, as documented  in Yamamoto's most recent spreadsheet.  Can you comment about when you expect to send the final amounts?

I remember. I will do it tomorrow. Don't worry.

AND everyone else got paid so if you don't ask everynow and then it gets forgotten about. Im one of the 4 people left and while Im not in a hurry for $20 I am in a hurry to get this over and done with and forgotten about.

I have carefully read all 500 pages of this thread and I can't understand why so many people here hate members whose native language is not English?

Yeah, I’ve also noticed it. This indicates some "racism" here, although I always thought that digital currency should have no restrictions in this sense, as it is international.

Please list some specific examples of that in this thread. Don't make claims without backing them up with specific examples.

I don't remember now where was this particular example( on what page). But you can see how  in another thread Monero supporters are against people whose native language is not English.: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=199685.msg7514473#msg7514473

LOL, please go troll somewhere else.

"Can you not at least pretend to be different people instead of the same idiot running troll accounts? You write like a Russian with a poor grasp of proper English grammatical constructs, and you use the same acronyms and linguistic style for everything. Obvious shills are obvious."

This is not racist or against non native english speakers you fool. It is simply someone calling someone else out based on the fact that his writing style and poor grasp of the language makes it look like all the other troll BCN accounts. Having a poor grasp of the language is not offensive if its true. Stop being an idiot and trying to label a whole community as racist when I can guarantee you there are hundreds of different nationalities and languages spoken by XMR investors.

do i understand it right that for this coin cold storage for backup purpose is not really needed, since i can just delete the wallet files and keep my deterministic passphrase on paper?

sure, its not the same like signing transactions with offline computer and watch-only wallet, but its good enough to just keep it pretty well safe no ?

You can restore a wallet from the deterministic seed so yes. I would certainly suggest attempting the process in test a couple of time before deleting your wallet file with all your savings on Wink
