Wtf Bitfinex??? This is bad...

Its bad that a site went down? Cmon guys how many times has Stamp, Gox, BTC-e gone down??

so its just a case of bitfinex gone off line unannounced? is that it?

Website under heavy load, no doubt its a DDOS to add to the panic, as per normal Bitcoin world Wink

This coin is a buy and hold like Bitcoin.

But it is far from Bitcoin. Fewer people are interested in it!
 Smiley Smiley

And very few people were interested in Bitcoin when it first came out.

99% of people using Bitcoin have probably not read Satoshi's whitepaper.

Most people are only interested because of the network effect.

Monero's based on CryptoNote, I suggest people read the whitepaper to see how it differs from Bitcoin, it's a very interesting technology. I read some of the paper and am very impressed.

https://cryptonote.org/whitepaper.pdf

It might take a while for Monero to catch on, as it's not the same technology as Bitcoin. But it certainly offers something that cannot be done with Bitcoin.

Agree but lets not pretend that cryptonote doesn't have some drawbacks as well.

Im very interested in hearing proposals to deal with blockchain bloat for instance?

Just wait for the buying back to start and the pigs to be slaughtered Wink

many of the coins that were bought in this run are probably no longer subject to panic selling, as whales withdraw for long term holding.

selling != panic selling. If you bought a significant number of coins at any point other than say yesterday, taking a few k profit is not a bad move.

This much and this fast?

How many coins were bought between $440 and this price 24 hours ago? A shit load, one person could be selling all those coins, theoretically, its only been 1500 a big entity could have eaasily bought 1500 coins between $450 and $500 and selling them now for close to $100k profit.

Just think its silly to always assume everytime someone sells that its in panic and they don't know what theyre doing. Some unknown news is more likely obviously.

I would expect a decent retrace here, the longs on Bitfinex are the highest they've been since the first week in feb.

Woke up with a sell order having gone through on Kraken, not buying back in until I see a few green candles on the hour views to be safe.
Any reason people dumped, aside from it being a correction as we've gone up too fast?

My guess is just a correction, Im expecting some new , money on the exchanges in the next few hours so would stand to reason some bigger players trying to increse their position before it enters.

Who knows, but one of the joys of buying back low $400's and being general in a bullish market is not having to fret too much. IMO its silly to buy or sell here, just hodl Wink

well if this is not spamming our campaign , then what is?

lol this is why you have to bear in mind what your planning on doing on these forums when you join a sig campaign, its not spam per se within the thread but its certainly spamming the sig and post count. Is this recent or somebody trying to bump their post count?

Protip: with drk having it's fork and generally being overvalued anyway expect an injection of btc into MRO.
This is no real altcoin "protip".

- Fork is already fixed.
- Monero is down in the last 24 h. DarkCOIN Fork is/was 6 or 10 hour ago. Monero didnt profit from it. What leads you to think it will do now. After Dark problems are nearly gone? Dark price already recovered.
- Monero is a 2 year old technology and still has it's own problems (blockchain bloat).

(no hate against u and Monero is a good coin, still wanted to notice this)
I know I know just making conversation Smiley

Drk is frozen on mint pal cryptsy and polo I speculate when they come back up people will take some profits that they have been holding of which a lot of people have many. Also wasn't the first fork that long ago ? Im lead to believe it has forked more than once ?

Can someone tell me where these rumours about Bitstamp being insolvent came from & is there even a remote possibility that it's true?

There are zero reasons to assume Bitstamp is insolvent.

What is happening though is a rather over zealous KYC/AML policy which asks rather probing questions such as proof of funds. This in itself is not a problem IF its in the TOS and people can expect it.

Whats not okay is people selling coins thinking they are verified (it even tells you on your account you are verified) and then having their funds held hostage until they pass all the procedures.

Overall its just about making things clearer but they are likely just covering their ass. Naturally people jump way far ahead of themselves and start making wild presumptions.

man this is so yesterdays news (actually about 12 weeks ago news)

SO we have some noobs or others that are starting to hit the AML/KYC limits for a normal account ( i think its about 75k in trade for a period of time)

So its actually a bullish sign that many are trying to get funds onto stamp..

Also i will say the same thing i have said to many ANSWER THE FUCKING KYC or go launder your drug money on kraken or btc-e

There are other options ...this factor is known about stamp and will also mean that they will be in a worst case senario the last man standing

I still think your missing the point. People keep saying this is old news and yes the questionnaire is. What is now being discussed is being asked for proof of funds even to the point of being asked to sign personal bitcoin addresses. This is above and beyond any normal kyc and aml that most don't have a problem with.

Also no offence but saying things like answer the kyc or launder your drug money elsewhere makes you sound as bad as the people who say btc is just for drugs and other nefarious activities.

There are plenty of reasons not to want to go through the over intrusive procedure they are now carrying out. For some it just goes against their principles which no one can argue with as it's their opinion. also I think one of the big things and what made me not want to send them copies of bank statement etc is if companies like eBay and Adobe can't keep personal info safe why are people going to send passport scans and bank statement to a third party bitcoin exchange? I bet some of the people who sent sensitive info into gox are pretty unhappy about their data being stolen now in hindsight.

I don't see how people can not call it morally wrong when none of this is in the tos and can be prune upon you st any time. Now if you have made a trade and are trying to withdraw fiat, you have two options either jump through whatever hoops to get your withdrawal or buy back the coins maybe at a loss. Those shouldn't be the choices it should be laid out that they are doing it anf giving everyone fair chance to make their own decision.

Their policies have been in place for ages. Noobs join Bitstamp and then freak out and post on here in a panic.

Even if you are fully verified big transfers need explaining. This has been the case for ages.

This is a new unregulated environment. Regulation is coming. Bitstamp don't want to get in trouble so they might be going a little far with the KYC but what else would you expect from people churning over millions of dollars every day taking a prudent approach in an unregulated-soon-to-be-regulated environment?

Yes their general questionnaire has but this is new so slightly different and nothing like anything else any other broker in the world would do. Asking for proof of funds including signing of personal Bitcoin addresses is imo too far and totally unnecessary particularly with you only finding out about them after you have sold. People can have a variety of legitimate reasons for not wanting to send bank statements and other personal docs to Stamp. Just look at adobe and ebay for examples, in fact just look at gox. There is plenty of reasons to not want to go through that procedure, which until they cite some sort of law or guidelines is them stabbing in the dark at what is really required.

Hope someone is willing to help me with the following question; whenever I want to transfer MRO or QCN to an exchange wallet i get the following error;

http://imgur.com/MI9QLbi

For some reason my stransaction size is to big.. Does some one know a solution to this?

All the best

Yes, no doubt you have been mining to that address? You need to send smaller amounts due to all the inputs making the transaction size large.
1436  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 26, 2014, 03:57:01 PM
This may be a dumb question but I know you split the block reward in pool mining but if you're solo mining you get the whole reward right? Seems as though I have 230H/s I'm usually only making .05mro every block from pools or even less. And if the pool isn't finding many blocks a day then it's not very profitable.

You should get around 2 MRO a day depending on luck according to the bot. Are you making less than that? The problem with it is a block is 16 ish atm so if you should be getting 2 MRO a day that means you should find a block at some point in the next 8 days. The problem with that again is that in the next 4 days it could get harder so the estimated time to find a block increases and so on until you never actually find one. Its a lot luck based as well though.

Have you ever tried receiving payments from abroad? It is exceptionally expensive and time-consuming to send money to Brazil from a foreign country by regular banking channels. Bitcoin facilitates this tremendously, and is used by many. Is that not enough to be considered successful?
-----------------------------------

How many people in this thread using bitcoin moving money abroad?  if one uses, indeed he will find bitcoin fantastic. One thing I tend to be sure is that the payment technology behind bitcoin will be successful.

Still, the success of payment technology does not necessarily mean success of bitcoin, I think.

It is quite a headache for me to imagine: if Switzerland decides to stop Swiss Francs and turn them all into a crypto swisscoin, what will happen to bitcoin?

Well technically anytime you do any trading of alts ,payments for e goods from member, donations etc you are sending money abroad that you wouldn't already be able to do easily Wink

I believe I am mining fine. I am mining on extreemhash using stratum and the wallet address is updating the stats ect. My problem is I am confused as to how to check my wallet's actual balance and whether or not I OWN the coins.

In bitcoin I have a wallet program and I can see my balance and i have the private keys stored in wallet.dat I can backup that file and encrypt it ect.

What is the equivalent of wallet.dat for monero? I am under the assumption it is a file like 'wallet.keys'. If that's the case then how do I 'sweep' the keys into a wallet program or import those keys.

I have very little understanding of this with the current monero framework and again I apologize for my noobness. Perhaps I can write a small guide once this is settled.

Thank you btw for helping my through this and for your quick replies.

No worries.

Have you synced the block chain yet/ is your wallet open? If not follow this guide http://www.monero.cc/getting-started/index.html#monero-install-1

This shows you the batch file you need to run to open the wallet and sync the block chain.(Im guessing you've probably done this though as you have your address)

Then to check you balance, within the simple wallet window type refresh and the wallet will sync and show your coins.

Willie account was posted at least 4 months ago on Reddit  HERE and HERE with the suspicious trading activity and potentially inflated prices.

Article is lifted from old material, although well pieced together with pictures and charts.

It's old news, market has already priced it in.

How exactly willie story is disproved? or proved?

because both can have a lot of effect over the market

Likely it will never be proved or disproved as even though you could theoretically prove it was from inside Gox you can't prove they were operating them or knew.
