1041  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: July 15, 2014, 09:24:50 AM
Anyhow, I can't find a way to even put error bars around my estimate of the supply rate, so it doesn't really do me any good, even if my causal logic is perfect.

I'm putting out some feelers looking for better data.

One reason the daily supply estimate is so difficult to guesstimate is that it will change massively day to day. For example during the first few weeks of OTC and then cryptonote exchange the early miners generally knew where the majority of the hashing power came from and during this time not many of us sold. This understandably means that some of the earliest miners, even after paying bills, have a fairly hefty stash. All it takes is the need/want  of a few people to sell 1-5% of your stash and you could probably double that days supply (if we take 25% daily mined amount is sold just for discussion sake). Again the same applies when the price is rising, during the mintpal voting stage I can almost guarantee that the number of mined coins that day being sold were below what would normally be sold on a 'normal' day.

Ultimately though, this big inflation will benefit everyone in the long run due to more coins being in a larger amount of peoples hands which is the whole idea. If XMR went straight to its potential value, many would struggle to even get in the 10's of coins, at these prices most people have the oppurtunity to own a much higher % of the total supply compared to say their BTC holdings in terms of % of total supply.

Lots of coins have claimed to be widely distributed but not many can show consistently high volumes while having a fast emmision rate and then staying on high volume for a significant amount of time, time will tell but I beleive we will see that.

Speaking of volume, does anybody have an idea of Polo's total XMR volume? There were days of 1000BTC so Im sure its got to be 20k-40k BTC thats some impressive distribution if you ask me.

also - why is the content of the web page not open to public so we can contribute? some dev wiki perhaps? (the design, or at least ideas, could be kept separate ...you could at least create a thread about it here, see what people come up with)

Do have a look at the community XMR FAQ. A lot of great content was added within the first day or so but interest seems to have subsided. Eventually the FAQ content will likely find a home on a web site.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=686086.0

Thats a good thing in regards to an FAQ, means most the frequently asked questions have been put up there straight away and there is also a distinct lack of people asking the same questions like there was before. A success as far as Im concerned, sometimes its the little things. Thanks!

Anyone having problems getting the estimated MRO per day? I'm hashing at 2500 H/s, and lately I've been getting less then half of what is estimated. Given the current difficulty, I should be getting about 4.5 MRO, but I made that over a period of two days instead. I've tried moneropool.org, moneropool.com, and monero.crypto-pool.fr -- same outcome. Are the estimates wrong, or am I (or are we) getting jipped?

Where are you working out your expected earnings? Most the calculators are dubious at best and vague guesses at worse, there are a lot of factors that afffect how many you mine per day such as the difficulrty movement and also the luck of your pool. Monerobot in IRC says 2500 should get around 3.54XMR per day so the results your seeing dont seem ridiculous to me.

there is > 50,000 worth of bids on the buy side and < 14000 asks on the sell side. idk what depressed the price so much, but it caused people to buy up all of the supply. polniex appears to be running out of xmr. I mean it would only cost a couple dozen btc to buy ALL of the xmr on poloniex. put on your seatbelt folks.

Im not sure where your looking but there are 87k XMR on sale at polo and 37.08770823BTC to 0.00389?

im looking at the depth chart. i see what you are looking at. any idea why the numbers dont match?

Id guess Polos terrible charting algorithm, use Bitcoinwisdom anyway tis better.

ive never been able to figure out how to get a depth chart out of bitcoin wisdom. any idea?

No, the best you get out of Bitcoinwisdom is their order sums down the right hand side. An xmr charting site is on my to do list but there are so many projects on the go at the moment!

May i join the club of stuck Mintpal withdrawals?

BTC withdrawals were immediate for me. Convert to BTC and gtfo of mintpal imo.

Ughh i have them pending on withdrawal now...  Undecided

do you mean your xmr?

Is there a way to cancel a pending withdrawal?

BTC withdrawals are working fine so I was thinking about trying to cancel the withdrawal convert to btc and withdraw the btc and buy the xmr back from polo. I already confirmed through email, is this possible?

If there is a cancel withdraw option somewhere in the balances its certainly possible.
Im just glad that XMR's main exchange isnt mintpal. If they start having serious trouble some of the main mintpal coins could really suffer.

We need a new poll:

Time for Wall Observer pt. 2 or continue the original?

Going for longest thread on the interwebsssss.

I dont see any reason to start a new one.

Which is first, WO2 10k or BTC 10k?

WO2 for sure, Im pretty sure the next bubble pops before 10k Wink

Going on the posting rate if the price does something interesting in the near future this thread could be at 10k in three months.

I would put my hand up for a fixed block reward model. To me it seems prefereable to a vanishing reward implementation.

Im sure they are in crisis mode over at Mintpal so not suprised to hear some withdrawals are slow. Ive withdrawn my last coins from there and it took a while.
1052  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 14, 2014, 02:11:57 PM
Bitfinex has reduced their margin leverage from 2.5X to 1.5X, effective July 21st.   Officially, this is because the btc used as margin deposit is also volatile.

That's not entirely true.

This is what will happen starting from July 21st.

1st example

Current BTC price is 600 USD/BTC, and you have a leverage of 2.5:1

If you have 1 BTC, you can open a 1.5 max long or short BTCUSD position
If you have 600 USD, you can open a 2.5 max long or short BTCUSD position

Each dollar you add in your trading wallet will allow you to increase your tradable balance

The leverage will vary depending on the type of collateral.

While this is true I would wager that the vast majority of users are using BTC as collateral and not USD so will most likely apply to most.
1053  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LAUNCHED] CryptoNoteCoin - CryptoNote based coin for education purposes on: July 14, 2014, 01:51:46 PM
Read the OP, it's for EDUCATION PURPOSE only. All the coins will be destroyed every 2 months, genesis block and blockchain will be reset.

So this is like the testnet bitcoins then? Wouldn't a blockchain reset every two months require a hard fork every two months as well?

It says that they will regenerate the genesis block I would imagine that would mean a new chain rather than a hardfork on the current chain, someone correct me if im wrong.
1054  Economy / Services / Re: [PrimeDice] [Highest Paid Signature] Earn Bitcoins Simply By Posting on: July 14, 2014, 01:41:56 PM
I have filled the enrollment form but after some more reading I notice that I should've filled in an empty "request payment" form too at the same time with the first one as apparently it wouldn't get saved any other way.

Not sure if I should do a new enrollment now or just see how it goes and if I don't receive a payment this time I can just quote the post I made in the forum when I started advertising the site.

Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do?

Id submit another one if you didnt press submit on the claim payment form after you enrolled, stunna will see it twice if not and will delete one which is better than posting and not being signed up.

Is there a Monero gambling site yet?

Nope but Ive tried to put some rough plans together, watch this space Wink

Thats a shame, where else can you trade on margin ?
1057  Economy / Services / Re: XBTec - campaign terminated on: July 14, 2014, 01:09:00 PM
C'mon XBTec its 0.02BTC you owe me and 0.07 in total, its pittance to protect the rest of your reputation. The BTC means nothing to me but a deal is a deal and I expect you to pay up. Not like I'm due 0.5 as I have earned sometimes with other campaigns.

I must be a masochist or something. Why do I keep going to poloniex to look at the price?

Because its going to bounce at any point and you wanna be on that train  Cool

Zolace, its clear he has just defaulted on what he owes... at least you can take satisfaction that noone is going to be using XBTec

Thats not clear at all, dont spread FUD. He made last weeks payment and that was a week late. Although not acceptable I wouldnt be surprised to see him payout this week, just late.
